Position Description:

The Segmentation Editor supports online advertising products by building query segments that in turn train search algorithms used by the search engine. Candidates will work with the Behavioral Targeting analyst team to learn and use various user segmentation tools. Applicants must be based in the greater Seattle and metropolitan area and must be fluent in English; both written and verbal. I found this post advertised on WAHM Forum. Hope it will help those looking for transcription positions. According to the hiring person you need not have experience in transcription but do need to pass their test.

TRANSCRIPTIONIST (work from home)
Experienced U.S.-based transcriptionists needed to work from home. As this is a virtual position, we require all transcriptionists to check their e-mail accounts at least twice a day for transcription assignments. Average sound file assignments run one hour in length or longer. All transcriptionists will retrieve digital audio files from our FTP site.

Requirements:
+ Must have an excellent grasp of American culture and colloquialism as well as English spelling and punctuation rules
+ Ability to handle accents, background noise, and difficult audio at times highly desired

Terescription does transcription and logging for production studios. They are currently training transcribers to contract with them from their homes. They need independent contractors to take a media file that is downloaded to their home computer and create a transcript (a typed script of all the dialogue in the video) of that media file. Then upload it back to the show.

How to Proceed

Sign up at the Terescription Transcriber Sign up page.
Check your email inbox for a validation email.
Click on the link in the validation email. This will validate that we have the correct email address for you.
Fill out all your contact information. You will then receive an email explaining step by step process of becoming a transcriber for them. They will also provide you details about payment and schedule.
You will also have to submit a sample transcription before you can be hired.
You are expected to have a foot pedal and a decent typing speed to make decent wage.

Microworkers is a site similar to mturk or shorttask. You sign up and compemplete simple internet tasks. The payment varies from a couple of cents to $2 per task. You can create only one account per person. You will have to sign up with your real name and address. They will send you a PIN number at this address after which you can begin accepting microjobs. Read the description and accept a job only if you know you can complete it to employers satisfaction. Once the task is approved by employer you get paid to your account. The quality of work is taken pretty seriously. If the quality of result is unacceptable a red flag will be raised. Three red flags will get you terminated.

The payout is low at $9 and there are various ways that you can request payment like Paypal, check or Moneybrookers.

These include Part Time Retail Merchandiser, Part Time Installation Merchandiser, Part time Installation Leader and Part Time Territory Assistant. A Retail merchandiser visits local stores and sets up product displays. Hours can vary from 3 to 20 hours per week. There probably be more work available on or before the holiday season. This could be a good option if you are able work outside your home some of the time.

Today I came to know about Cloud Crowd. It is a program similar to mturk and short task, except the pay is much better! You have to be registered with Facebook to work on the tasks. The tasks are pretty simple like internet research, rewriting description and reviewing. After you finish you task your work is reviewed and then approved. If your work is found not up to their standards they do not pay.Your work is graded as excellent, good, fair and weak,
The best pay I found was for rewriting description. You get paid $2 if you get an excellent rating, less if good or fair and nothing if weak. The easiest task I found was reviewing and it pays 0.04 or 0.08 depending on what you are reviewing.
In all a fun non phone gig. You get paid daily. No experience is required, No test to be given and No waiting to begin working!
I have completed $10 worth of work today and am waiting to be paid. I will update once I receive payment.

Update : I received my payment last night! YAY!! But I wanted to share this snipet sent with the payment. "You may notice prices fluctuating. That's going to be pretty common, with prices moving up and down to match the supply of interested Workers with the supply of Work." So apparently prices may go down if there is less work and more workers.

Update 2:

I received an email from Cloud Crowd today that said "We're going to be operating the site at about half-throttle for the next week or two, because we want to focus on implementing a number of technologies intended to reduce false rejections and improve overall quality."
So those of you who have signed up an have not seen any work, hang in there. I am sure they will be implementing these changes soon and we will see more work with better reviewing process. They have also changed they payment period from 24 hours to 36 hours.

Update 3:

Lot of changes at CloudCrowd. So far I am liking them, but I have heard that lot of people have been suspended. CloudCrowd has changed the way credibility increases/decreases. Now if a task is not handled correctly there may be a drastic drop in credibility which will affect getting more tasks. They have also started adding "check questions" which will basically test you and if do not perform well your credibility will drop to 25.

CloudCrowd has also started adding more tasks with very detailed instructions. They have also added a review button next to the completed tasks where you can see the grade you gave and the grade you received. You can appeal any disagreements via this button.

All in all I think effective changes. I just hope there will be more tasks added soon.

Live Work is a freelance workplace similar to odesk, elance and guru.com. It is a newly launched website and hence the chances of getting projects for a beginner here are higher. Right now they have a couple of projects where they need a lot of people. The project is completely non phone and with a flexible schedule but they do have a minimum work requirement. When you think of Non Phone telecommute jobs, first one that comes to mind is Data Entry. It is the first choice of young mom/dads who have kids at home and cannot work traditional work at home jobs like telemarketing or call center. But what the chances of you finding one? Let me be very brutal and tell you, they are rare. Most of the ads that you will see for work at home data entry jobs are scams. Real data entry jobs have high demand in the work at home community, hence the legitimate companies that hire data entry workers have more applicants than they have work. So is all hope lost? Not really. For the past 2 years that I have been searching for non phone jobs I have discovered that there are many opportunities for getting such a job if you put in some effort into honing certain skills that are in demand. From my experience of searching for non phone jobs last 2 years, I am going list these skills and how you can learn them and get certified.

Enhance your Skills

1. MS Excel - Many small businesses seek "Excel expert" or "Excel guru" to create excel spreadsheets for them. These of course are not simple spreadsheets but advanced ones where you will need expertise in using macros, graphs and advanced formulas. If you are mathematically inclines learning this will not be a problem for you. There are lot of places you can learn Excel Online. I am listing a few of them here, but you can find the one that fits your needs the best by doing a simple google search.

How do I get Certified?

After learning these skills you can get certified to add them to your resume.

The NSCA (National Computer Science Academy) provides free certification exams for Excel, PowerPoint and many other computer programs and softwares. Although the test is free, you have to pay fees to get your certificate. The starting rate is $39.

Expert Rating offers certification exams for a low fee of $9.95. You can pay by paypal too. When you pass the test you will get a hard copy certificate, logo usage rights and free online transcript. If you fail they do charge $5 to retake the test. So do not give this test until you are very confident you will pass.

I suggest practicing the test on NCSA site and then when you are confident, you can go ahead and get certified at Expert Rating.

Do I have to get Certified?

Although certification gives you an edge, getting a certificate is not mandatory, you can add the skills to your resume once you have learned them and it is acceptable to most employers.

What are the advantages of learning Excel/Powerpoint?

1. More Job opportunities.
2. Higher pay scale. Excel and Powerpoint experts can make $15-$20 per hour.

Scam Email using Paypal's Name

YesterdayI recd an email seemingly from paypal, that I have recd funds. The email was sent from mark.delv.14@yahoo.com.tw. The email showed I received $245 from "Maxwell House". I was really shocked at how real the email looked. It probably is way to gain access to paypal password. This technique is called phishing.

How you identify if the email is from paypal?
1. Paypal always sends email addressed to the user by the name registered on the account. They never send a generic email starting with "Dear User" or "Dear Member".
2. Paypal will never ask you to click on any link to verify your password, enter your bank information or SSN.

If you receive an email like this do the following

Do NOT click on any links in the email.
Forward it to spoof@paypal.com
Delete it from you mailbox.
