Well, it seems like Lil Wayne will not do his time in protective custody as speculated. According to the Daily News, Lil Wayne will be serving his time in general population at Rikers.

Lil Wayne was shipped off to jail Monday, with his lawyer saying he wanted to hang tough at Rikers Island by doing his time with the general population.

And he’ll get his wish.

Even though defense lawyer Stacey Richman initially claimed that city officials were forcing the rapper into protective custody, it turns out he’s going into a regular cellblock.

Correction Department spokesman Stephen Morello said the “Lollipop” singer will have “general population escort” status.

That means he’ll be escorted by a correction captain when outside of his housing unit – just like gang members

Inside, he’s free to socialize under the watchful eye of guards with the 17 men on his cellblock – or stay locked in his cell.

“It’s his choice,” Morello said.

He said the agency never got a request from Lil Wayne to be treated like any other inmate – and Richman conceded she never made one because she assumed it would be shot down.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, pleaded guilty in October to felony gun charges involving a semiautomatic pistol found on his tour bus in 2007.

His sentencing was delayed twice, once for surgery on his diamond-studded teeth and once because of a courthouse fire.

When the sentencing finally happened, a crush of photographers and screaming fans followed him into the Manhattan courthouse. He spent his last moments of freedom in the bathroom with rapper Birdman, who tagged along for the hearing – and had nothing to say in court.

“Keep your head up, Weezy,” a fan shouted as officers guided him to a holding pen. With good-time credit, Lil Wayne could be out in eight months.

As we reported yesterday, singer D’Angelo was arrested in NYC for soliciting oral sex from an undercover female officer. Well his reps have stepped in to do some damage control.

“We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D’Angelo in New York City this past weekend. We would like his fans and the public at large to know that D’Angelo has plead not guilty — and is contesting the allegations made against him. Also know that he is in good health and extremely excited about his forthcoming new album. D’Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions.”

We will see how this one plays out.

Lil’ Wayne has officially began the start of his 1 year sentence at Rikers Island today. Wayne will serve about 8months of his 12 month sentence for weapons possession charges. You can save the soap jokes because  Lil’ Wayne will actually be serving his sentence in private custody away from other inmates.

According to the NYPost D’Angelo was arrested ove the weekeing for trying to solicit oral sex from an undercover officer:

Grammy Award-winning R&B singer D’Angelo was arrested early yesterday after allegedly offering an undercover policewoman $40 for oral sex while cruising alone through the West Village — with $12,000 stashed in his SUV.

D’Angelo, 36, whose real name is Michael Archer, was in his top-of-the-line Range Rover at Greenwich and Horatio streets at about 2:30 a.m. when he spotted a woman he took to be a prostitute, sources said.

He was arrested and charged with solicitation after asking the woman for sex, the sources said. His manager declined to comment.
