Worship & Evangelism!!

“All your works praise you, Lord; your faithful people extol you. They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.” Psalm 145:10-12

Worship has an OUT Direction. As we praise God, as we react to His goodness, our visible, observable expressions of praise and worship endure and reach into onlookers hearts in a way that often mere words of propositional truth can not. We can all recall times when our curiosity has been roused by seeing someone elses gladness or our attention drawn to their exclamations of enjoyment. When we see the response, the reaction to the goodness and presence of God in others worshipping, it makes an impact, and it is attractive to onlookers in the same way! Knowing this can revolutionise our attitude to evangelism. We don’t have to struggle with the image of being like a used car salesman or a telemarketer pushing something people don’t want. Instead be like a “satisfied customer”, and let others see your experience of God’s goodness, and like the infamous movie line say in their hearts “I’ll have what she’s having”!!

Our Love In Action Craigieburn Facebook page is up and running again. If you love helping people then feel free to join our group. With our current support of the huge Love In Action Wallan ministry, we are just helping a couple of very needy families in Craigieburn at the moment.  If you are interested in helping, please see Michelle or msg on the Facebook page.

Connect Mitchell Shire
There are some exciting things happening in the Mitchell Shire with Pastor Rob and Sue Tanner and the Connect Community. Starting in February 2019 there will be a discovering spirituality group and community meal each Sunday. This will take place at the Kilmore Soldiers Memorial Hall from 4 pm till 6:30 pm. The Connect Community will continue to start Connect Groups around the Mitchell Shire. If you have any questions email rob.tanner@northchurch.org.au Please be praying for this new group.

North Finance Update for July

We are now publishing the monthly figures for the Church Building Fund & Giving. We are also falling well short of our 2019 Giving Budget, with May continuing to be well under budget. We need to alert our church to this. Please pray and ask God what your response is to this urgent need.

Building Fund Total (July 10th): $106,700

General Giving 2019 (Jan – June): $94,130

Giving Budget 2019 (Jan – June): $108,110

Giving Budget 2019 Shortfall: ($13,980)

Please note that  we will be having one Combined Church Service at 10am. A Community Morning Tea will be held at the end of the 10am Service each week. It is important for us to be a unified community at this time!! See Pastor Rob if you have any questions.

The Sunday Evening Connect Group would like to invite anyone from North Church to join us for a meal at our meetings. You may wish to come once and share a time of fellowship and food, or you may wish to join us indefinitely. Each family brings a plate/meal to share. Children are very welcome. North Kids is our program for school age children from Preps to Year 7s during the school term. During the service, the kids meet for a time of fun and teaching. Contact the office for more details!

North Youth is our program for Years 7 to 12s running on a fortnightly basis on a rotating program. Week 1 is a discipleship group meeting run on a Sunday from 10am at the church building; Week 2 is a fun social time run on a Friday from 7.30pm at the church building. Press On!!

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Of all the Israelites, perhaps no one strove harder to please God than Saul of Tarsus. Every area of his life conformed strictly to the Law. No one could accuse this respected Pharisee of lacking zeal. He was a man with a mission, a mission to please and serve God. But on the road to Damascus, Saul’s life changed entirely. From now on, he would no longer try to please God himself. Instead, he would press on with the goal of knowing Christ. “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Philippians 3:8. Saul (now called Paul) had a new mission-a mission that remained constant amid ever-changing circumstances. It didn’t matter whether he was preaching to a crowd or sitting in a damp prison. Paul now had one goal before which everything in his life bowed. Paul wanted to know his Lord.

How about you? Is knowing Christ, fellowshipping, trusting, and depending on Him, the goal toward which you’re striving? Ask God to help you press on to know Him today.

Luke 5:1-11(NIV)

One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Our North Members commissioned the North Church Board to actively search for a factory warehouse to buy and to begin raising funds and pledges. If you have any ideas for fundraising, then we would welcome you to share your thoughts and ideas. Discipleship!

There are many passages of Scripture that address the topic of following Jesus however, for me, John 15 is a great passage to reflect on about ‘how to follow Jesus’. It can be paraphrased in very simple terms:

• Remain (abide) in me, Jesus

• Remain (abide) in my Word

• Remain (abide) in my love

The Message version translates: ‘make your home in me, my word and love’. Just like that of a skilled gardener, the Father wants us not only to be Disciples of Jesus but to ‘make Disciples who make disciples’ (to be fruitful). Who are you investing in? It may be your family; your friends; your neighbors; or your work colleagues. Verse 16 “You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil”. From Little things Big things grow!

Our recent Children’s Ministry’s endeavour ‘Small change for a big change’ reminds me of another story of faith in the Bible:

The Widow’s Offering

Mark 12:41-44 “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

May your little faith (Matthew 17:20) make a BIG difference in your world too!

Fundraising for New Church Building

Our North Members commissioned the North Church Board to actively search for a factory warehouse to buy and to begin raising funds and pledges. If you have any ideas for fundraising, then we would welcome you to share your thoughts and ideas. Please be praying for the finances to be raised quickly and for what each of our personal commitment to it should be, above our tithing. Email: richard.kolega@northchurch.org.au.

Love in Action Craigieburn
Our Love In Action Craigieburn Facebook page is up and running again. If you love helping people then feel free to join our group. With our current support of the huge Love In Action Wallan ministry, we are just helping a couple of very needy families in Craigieburn at the moment. We have a family urgent need of help with Christmas presents. If you are interested in helping, please see Michelle or msg on the Facebook page.

Connect Mitchell Shire
There are some exciting things happening in the Mitchell Shire with Pastor Rob and Sue Tanner and the Connect Community. Starting in February 2019 there will be a discovering spirituality group and community meal each Sunday. This will take place at the Kilmore Soldiers Memorial Hall from 4 pm till 6:30 pm. The Connect Community will continue to start Connect Groups around the Mitchell Shire. If you have any questions email rob.tanner@northchurch.org.au Please be praying for this new group.

North Finance Update for April
Every month now we will be publishing figures of the Church Building Fund Total. We are also falling well short of our 2019 Giving Budget, with the month of April being considerably under budget. We need to alert our church to this. If trend continues then some big decisions need to be made about how we can cut expenses, with our big ticket items being Rent & Staff. Please pray and ask God what your response is to this urgent need.

Faith!!

Someone very close to me has lost their faith.
There’s no other way of explaining it. They are disillusioned; discouraged; confused; and perhaps, even a little bitter at the cards life has dealt them.

• They have moved from a place of hope to a place of hopelessness

• They have replaced faith with surrender

• They have had joy smothered by unhappiness

• They have exchanged a relationship and settled back into religion

This can happen to any of us if we are not careful. It happened to the Jews after they crossed the Jordan (Exodus 16); it even happened to the disciples half-way through a journey across a lake (Luke 8:22-25). Jesus rebuked them not because they were afraid but because he had told them, (let us go over to the other side of the lake) but obviously, when things weren’t going to plan (a squall came down on the lake) they started believing something else (Master, Master, we’re going to drown) rather than remaining focused on his promise (let us go over to the other side).

During times of testing, trial and temptation – let us FIX our eyes on Jesus – not the circumstances we are facing that may temp us to begin operating in unbelief.

Difficult Days!!

Is there a Doctor in the house?

Today we’re looking at one of the more amazing teachings that Jesus has given the church. It shows His heart for those who are hurting and also shows what the heart of the church should be for each other and the lost. The passage is Mathew 9:9-26 where we see Jesus minister to a sinner, a woman crippled by disease and a father whose daughter has died and whom he raises from the dead.

Matthew 9:12-13 sums up the good news of Jesus. “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Life with God starts by recognizing your need for Him. You can not make yourself worthy of God’s love.

He loves you and accepts you when you reach out to him and say, “I need you”. For He has not come to call the righteous, but sinners. Humble yourself and He will meet you. Then you will have joy as Matthew, the sick woman and Jairus and daughter did.

Get Connected!!
As our Connect Groups get up and running for 2019 it’s important we’re on the same page for vision and direction. Our first meeting will be on Sunday February 24th from 12:15 till 1:30. If you already lead a group or would like to start up a new group this meeting is for you. If you have any questions or topics to discuss please talk to Pastor Rob. If you are interested in attending a group then talk to Pastor Rob also.

Second Service Etiquette
With the return of 2 services, please remember the second service starts promptly at 10.45am. If you are in the morning tea area or foyer at 10.45am, please move to your seats or quietly move on if you have attended at 9am. We greatly appreciate the work of the worship team and would like to bless them with our undivided attention.

Difficult Days!!

Over recent days the institutionalized Church has been the topic of discussion, amongst many Australians, for all the wrong reasons with the recent news of Cardinal George Pell’s conviction.

Recent State and Federal Royal Commissions have unearthed tragic stories of neglect and abuse that cast a shameful shadow over some in the Church who have taken advantage of power and position.

The way forward must be characterized by seasons of humility (James 4:6), repentance (Matthew 3:8), healing (Proverbs 13:17), forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7) and a rebuilding of trust (Proverbs 3:5,6).

If you have been struggling and need to talk or pray with someone please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask for the help you require. Let’s pray together that the name of Jesus will be lifted up and that the Church may reflect his glory in days to come.

Our North Members commissioned the North Church Board to actively search for a factory warehouse to buy and to begin raising funds and pledges. If you have any ideas for fundraising, then we would welcome you to share your thoughts and ideas. Please be praying for the finances to be raised quickly and for what each of our personal commitment to it should be, above our tithing. Email: richard.kolega@northchurch.org.au.

Love in Action Craigieburn
Our Love In Action Craigieburn Facebook page is up and running again. If you love helping people then feel free to join our group. With our current support of the huge Love In Action Wallan ministry, we are just helping a couple of very needy families in Craigieburn at the moment. We have a family urgent need of help with Christmas presents. If you are interested in helping, please see Michelle or msg on the Facebook page.

Connect Mitchell Shire
There are some exciting things happening in the Mitchell Shire with Pastor Rob and Sue Tanner and the Connect Community. Starting in February 2019 there will be a discovering spirituality group and community meal each Sunday. This will take place at the Kilmore Soldiers Memorial Hall from 4 pm till 6:30 pm. The Connect Community will continue to start Connect Groups around the Mitchell Shire. If you have any questions email rob.tanner@northchurch.org.au Please be praying for this new group.

Men’s Group
The men of North Church are invited to join together for “Men’s Group” on Wednesday Evenings, between 7.00pm – 8.30pm, at North Church. This group is running for the next 3 weeks (till March 27th). See Rob T or Brett K if you need further information.

Women’s Retreat 2019
North Ladies, make sure you put Friday Evening June 21st to Saturday Dinner June 22nd in your diaries for our very first North Women’s Retreat. It is going to be held nearby in Upper Plenty and will cost approx $80 for accommodation, food, fun, fellowship and some great time with God too. See Michelle M or Marijke if you have questions..

Get Connected!!
As our Connect Groups get up and running for 2019 it’s important we’re on the same page for vision and direction. Our first meeting will be on Sunday February 24th from 12:15 till 1:30. If you already lead a group or would like to start up a new group this meeting is for you. If you have any questions or topics to discuss please talk to Pastor Rob. If you are interested in attending a group then talk to Pastor Rob also.

Second Service Etiquette
With the return of 2 services, please remember the second service starts promptly at 10.45am. If you are in the morning tea area or foyer at 10.45am, please move to your seats or quietly move on if you have attended at 9am. We greatly appreciate the work of the worship team and would like to bless them with our undivided attention.

Women’s Afternoon Tea

All our North Ladies (teens and older) are invited to join together for Afternoon Tea on Sunday March 17th (2pm-3.30pm). VENUE:Craigieburn. Cost: $5 (everything provided). Comfortably Uncomfortable!!

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” John 20:19-23 (NIV)

Today’s message will be focused on whether we choose comfort first, rather than following Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, above all else. The challenging thing is that when we choose comfort first, the result is often unfulfulling and we feel the need to chase after even more comfort. But when we put following Jesus first the result is Peace (Perfect Peace)!! God Bless, Brett

First!!

Cain and Abel brought offerings to the Lord but only Abel’s was accepted. Why did God reject Cain’s offering? This story looks at the principal of the first-fruit and why it’s central to our giving.

Putting God first extends to every aspect of our lives not just our finances. God doesn’t accept leftovers; God must be first. That takes faith. Faith that God will continue to provide and that He will not leave us in need (Matthew 6:25-33).

Our God is faithful – today, as we look at the subject of stewardship we can be confident of God’s grace and His provision for faith to rise as we continue to trust Him to provide for our needs this year.
