<itunes:summary>We are a community of believers in Jesus. Our worship style is contemporary, our dress is casual and we have a great desire to equip people to reach their full potential, so our teaching is always relevant.

We value families and youth, so we provide a children’s program for primary school aged children during each morning service, commencing at 8:30am and 10:15am.

Nursery and toddlers’ facilities are also available during each morning service, and our evening service at 6:30pm has a strong youth focus.

Our Bible College on campus, Northreach Bible College is closely associated with CALAM Training, providing training for rural, remote and regional ministry.

If you are new to our church, have a look around and get to know us. We are a welcoming church of more than 500 people who are keen on connecting with members of the wider community of Townsville and beyond. We are happy to assist you in anyway we can.

In 2010 we changed our name from Townsville District Baptist Church to Northreach. We believe this name reflects the purpose and future direction of our church, to reach the people in rural, remote and regional areas of North Queensland with the good news of Jesus Christ.

There are a number of ways you can discover who we are. Our website will help you explore more about who we are and what we’re doing. You are invited to join us in any of our activities, including our services this Sunday. Our small groups meet in people’s homes around the city during the week.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This morning Northreach Baptist Church recasted their vision for Townsville a vision to reach out to people and follow Jesus.

Genesis 41 is a bible example of setting a vision.

Pharaoh in Genesis 41 is written about as having visions which he doesn't not know the meaning behind. Pharaoh calls upon his servant Joseph who is known for his accuracy in interpreting dreams - a gift given by God. Joseph interprets Pharaoh's dream and paints a picture of the future of Egypt - which was a severe famine.

Joseph interprets these dreams and tells Pharaoh the vision God has given Egypt - God has shown a picture of the future. The dream in Genesis 41 was a warning to Egypt about the seven good years of harvest and seven years of famine.

"I will make you into a great nation ... and I will bless you; I will make your name great and you will be a blessing... and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." ~ Genesis 12:2-3.

The vision for Northreach can be found in Matthew 28:19-20 which in our vision is seen as, "Following Jesus, Reaching People."

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." ~ Matthew 28:19-20.</itunes:summary>

The God who Knows Us -- Psalm 139:1-6

This psalm expressed the relationship between God and an individual in such a warm, familiar intimate way. Theologians have a word to describe what David is talking about, they call it omniscience of God.

There is nothing in our lives that can surprise God. He knows what we’re like, He knows what we’re doing, He knows what we’re thinking. He defines the boundaries of our life from before our life begins to after it ends.

The God who is with Us -- Psalm 139:7-12

In this Psalm David finds three completely opposite places, but God often seems to live in tensions and contrasts. In the heavens God is there!

In the comfort and safety of dawn as the sun rises on another day God is there! At the far and unknown side of an ocean that is unexplored and intimidating, God is there!

The God who made Us -- Psalm 139:13-18

Some actually reject that passage. How easy it is for King David, this magnificent specimen of a man to say that. On another level it is accepted the theory of what David says here but we are left wondering if we’re a dud. Some of us may even hate the way God made us.

Our Response to Psalm 139 is we recognise it’s an unequal relationship. We have this God who knows everything there is to know about us, but yet we have this God who we know so little about.

The Bible tells us that life is always going to be an unequal knowing but one day that will change.

1 Corinthians 13:12 reads, “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

In the comfort and safety of dawn as the sun rises on another day God is there! At the far and unknown side of an ocean that is unexplored and intimidating, God is there!

The God who made Us - Psalm 139:13-18

Some actually reject that passage. How easy it is for King David, this magnificent specimen of a man to say that. On another level it is accepted the theory of what David says here but we are left wondering if we're a dud. Some of us may even hate the way God made us.

Our Response to Psalm 139 is we recognise it's an unequal relationship. We have this God who knows everything there is to know about us, but yet we have this God who we know so little about.

The Bible tells us that life is always going to be an unequal knowing but one day that will change.

1 Corinthians 13:12 reads, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."</itunes:summary>

What is Sound Doctrine?

“You, however, must teach what is appropriated to sound doctrine,” Titus 2:1.

Right Living + Right Thinking = Sound Doctrine

Are you struggling to adjust to your season?

There are four seasons that are found in Titus 2.

Season One – “Older” Men.

“Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance,” Titus 2:2.

Season Two – “Older” Women

“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good,” Titus 2:3.

Season Three – “Younger” Women

“Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,” Titus 2:4.

Season Four – “Younger” Men

What does it mean to grow up, to move beyond the lack of care experienced by young men during their younger years.

“Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us,” Titus 2:6.

What does this all mean?

You should be able to see that in every season in every aspect there is a calling to negotiate where we are in our lives. We need to think through the season of life that we are in. How things change that may be different now compared to what it you used to do 20 years ago.

Well, allot of people think it is limiting freedom while others think, “Love has no boundaries; love has no limits.”

Is there really nothing more powerful than love?

Listen to this podcast to find out what the bible teaches regarding same-sex unions.

Peter Coleman – “… if we ask the biblical writers what they actually meant, the answer is clear. They intended to place a ban on homosexual behaviour.”

It’s a question of what or who you believe is the most important thing in this universe, this world.

Bible scholars from Thomas Aquinas to Karl Barth agree: To ask whether homosexuality is natural is to ask whether God made it. To answer to that question has to be negative.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 say, “Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

What does the Disney movie Shrek have to do with church? Well nothing, except when you look at the rescuer. Have you missed your rescuer? Ian Walton takes us to John 1:10-11.

‘We human beings have a wonderful faculty for snatching fantasy from the jaws of truth’’ ~ Malcolm Muggeridge.

As we come close to Christmas there are several questions to think about; What if Jesus is an unexpected rescuer? What if we are enjoying the spirit of Christmas but missed the real point of Christmas, Jesus?

Jesus doesn’t look like we would expect – Jesus was born in a manger, not what King Herod was thinking.

For many people, Jesus doesn’t look like God to them. It’s not what they would expect. Paul puts it this way in 1 Corinthians 1.

Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Jesus doesn’t say what we would expect.

A Christmas challenge for the seeker.

John Stott writes, “If you find it hard to believe in God, I strongly advise you to begin your search not with philosophical questions about the existence and being of God, but with Jesus of Nazareth. Most people, like myself, feel on more solid ground when we are thinking and talking about Jesus Christ. The concept of God as he is in himself is beyond us. But with Jesus of Nazareth we are dealing with a historical person. Besides, we believe that this was God’s purpose. God himself is infinite in his being and altogether beyond our reach and comprehension. That is why he has taken the initiative to reveal himself — for we could never come to know him otherwise. And the climax of his self-revelation was the coming of his Son in human flesh. God means us to approach him through Jesus Christ, not the other way round. So if you can’t believe in God, let me urge you to read the four gospels [Matthew, Mark, Luke and John] which tell the story of Jesus. I’m astonished how many intelligent people haven’t read the gospels since they were kids at school. But if you read again the story of Jesus, and read it as an honest and humble seeker, Jesus Christ is able to reveal himself to you, and thus make God the Father real to you.”

We need to meet that Jesus again this Christmas. We need to remember that time where we knew we were just right with Jesus.

'We human beings have a wonderful faculty for snatching fantasy from the jaws of truth’' ~ Malcolm Muggeridge.

As we come close to Christmas there are several questions to think about; What if Jesus is an unexpected rescuer? What if we are enjoying the spirit of Christmas but missed the real point of Christmas, Jesus?

Jesus doesn't look like we would expect - Jesus was born in a manger, not what King Herod was thinking.

For many people, Jesus doesn't look like God to them. It's not what they would expect.

Jesus doesn't say what we would expect.

This is the Jesus who says we should loose our lives to find him. this is the jesus who Comes like an intersection saying, which road do you choose or way?
