Yesterday and Today

I first met Ashley about 5 years ago when she came to us for her senior photos. About a month ago she called us up and asked to come in for a new set of photos. Something fun that could show off a different side of her. We really had a great time. She was really open to lot of our ideas and she offered a lot of her own. Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where we are told to just go crazy and be creative. Below you can see one of the images from her session. She just gets more beautiful every time we see her. I thought it would be fun to do a before and after image comparing her senior photo to this year’s. This got me thinking…. I wonder if anyone else is interested in coming in and doing a similar session. So…… If you came here lets say 5 years or more ago and you would like to do a new updated session I would love to work with you. Be as creative as you want. Hard to believe that it’s time to start thinking about senior portraits again but we just booked our first two class of 2013 seniors last week. I know it seems early but believe me it’s not. Last year we had to turn away 5 seniors in August because we were already booked up. Even if you want to wait until August to have your photos taken… call right away and book the best time for you to have your session. Don’t be a photo not available.

Have you ever heard the saying ” A plumber’s pipes always leak” or “a builder never seems to finish his own deck”? Well here’s another one. “A photographer never seems to have photos of his own family”. This set of images is of my son Cameron. They are this year’s school photos I took but just a little late. About six months late to be exact.

It’s really cool to be a photographer because you never have to buy those really awful photos that the school takes every year. I really did plan on doing these last fall but somehow time seemed to slip away. So today was the day and I’m so glad that I did. Time really flies and every time I photograph one of my kids it’s proven to me over and over again.When did he get so grown up? I’m really proud of this guy. He’s funny,smart, super considerate of others and just fun to hang with. ( a few less detentions would be good but……) Anyway, thanks Cam for letting your dad take you photos. You’re the best!

Rachel came all the way from Calais for her Senior Portraits and we are really glad. It’s obvious when you look at these images that Rachel is just a ray of sunshine. Her smile is so infectious that you just can’t help smiling in return. Thanks Rachel for a great session!

Winter Fun!

This was a really unique session from last week. Our model is Logan who I met last year when she came to us for her senior portraits. I love it when clients come to me with an idea and say can we make this work. Not only is she really cool but brave ( or maybe crazy…. It was sooo cold that day but she suffered the temperatures and occasional flurries to create these really fun images. I on the other hand had my Artic wear L.L. Bean winter ski jacket on:) Thanks Logan. You Rock!

A Reminder

Have you ever heard the saying “Can’t see the forest for the trees”? It basically means that we can lose track of the big picture of life when dealing with all the little things that are inherently part of that life. I had one of those revealing moments last week. To be honest I was a little down. Nothing major but it was one of those days where I was feeling a little overwhelmed and I was grumpy. You know you’re being grumpy when your puppies don’t even want to hang with you.

I wasn’t getting anything done so I went onto my Facebook account to see what was going on in the world. I had a message on my wall and it said;” Hi Dave, I have a question. My house burnt down tonight and everything is gone. Including my senior pictures Is there any way you still have them?

Silence… How do you even respond to something like that. We immediately contacted her and told her of course, not to worry and that we would take care of reprinting them. Suzy said that our client was so relieved but I couldn’t stop thinking about that message. Of course your first thought is oh my god! I hope everyone is ok and they were. Then it occurred to me that with everything going on; the stress, the heartache, the overwhelming sense of loss she must be feeling that one of her first thoughts were of her senior photos. It’s events like these that wake you up to what is really important.

A story like this also makes you realize just how important photography truly is. Photography is a recording of our lives. It’s our history. I know that this event has reminded me that every time someone walks in front of my camera it is a privilege to be allowed into a client’s lives. Thank you all.

Doggie Daze

Anyone who knows me at all knows that I’m nuts for dogs! I love them. If you have come into the studio over the last year you have probably met Nero and Dexter. Our resident studio fun coordinators. Last week someone who came into the studio asked me if I photographed dogs. I was taken a little aback. I’ve been photographing dogs since I started the studio and just assumed that everyone knew that. (We all know what it means when you assume…) So I thought I would post some of my favorite doggie pics for you guys to enjoy. Also, If you have a very special best friend and would like a portrait of your pup let us know. If you mention that you saw these images on our Blog I’ll give you a special bonus on your order.
