Walk In My Shoes Experience Successful at NMC

On Monday, May 21^st, 18 NMC employees participated in a new program designed to provide a glimpse into career development experiences within the organization. The goal is to offer employees a first-hand look at other job opportunities that are available, in hopes of finding the long-term, right-fit for each employee.

New MRI Arrives at NMC

Northwestern Medical Center’s new fixed-site, large-bore MRI arrived at the hospital on Friday morning. The arrival of the equipment signals the final phase of the project, which has been underway since November. The new MRI will provide for upgraded software, a larger “bore” (the opening in the center of the scanner that a patient is placed in for imaging), and an improved patient experience.

“It is exciting to see the MRI arrive,” said Mark Sutton, Diagnostic Imaging Manager. “We are so thrilled to be able to make this dramatic improvement for our patients.”

Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) employees are slimming down as their annual “Dump Your Plump” fitness challenge enters its last few weeks.

Northwestern Medical Center's “Dump Your Plump” competition is underway with a record of 272 NMC employees and 13 spouses joining this fun, friendly competition for better health. NMC'ers are working hard to change or maintain their exercise and nutrition habits to shed unwanted pounds or to maintain a healthy weight.

1st Annual Medical Staff Evening of Appreciation Honors Providers; Deogracias “Deo” P. Esguerra, MD Service Award Presented to Dr. Fred Holmes

On Friday evening, October 28th, Northwestern Medical Center hosted its first annual Medical Staff Evening of Appreciation at the St. Albans Historical Museum’s Bliss Auditorium. In addition to years of service awards for providers, NMC established and presented the first annual Deogracias “Deo” P. Esguerra, MD Service Award to honor a provider with a “passion for excellence and dedication to the patients of our community.” Dr. Esguerra’s widow, Evelyn, and their daughter, Renita Rodriguez, travelled from Buffalo, NY to be on hand to help present the inaugural award.

NMC Recognized as a Top Performer on Pneumonia Care-- Only VT Hospital to Earn Designation

Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) is pleased to announce that the Joint Commission has recognized NMC as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures in the area of pneumonia care. NMC is the only hospital in Vermont to earn the “Top Performer” designation. For the first time, the Joint Commission’s 2011 annual report on quality and safety, Improving America’s Hospitals, lists hospitals and critical access hospitals that are top performers in using evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes.

NMC Earns 4th Consecutive Patient Satisfaction Awards

Avatar International, an industry leader in healthcare quality improvement services, recently recognized its top performing hospital partners in 2010. Northwestern Medical Center was honored with both the Overall Best Performer and the Exceeding Patient Expectations Awards for 2010 for the fourth consecutive year in a row.

Dr. Mary Woodhouse, General Surgeon, Joins NMC Staff

Northwestern Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of a new general surgeon to the hospital staff. Dr. Mary Woodhouse is now practicing at Northwestern Associates in Surgery, located in the Doctors’ Office Commons on the NMC campus.

Northwestern Medical Center Honored with Leadership in Quality Award

Quorum Health Resources (QHR), the nation’s largest hospital management company and the seventh largest healthcare consulting firm in the United States, recently announced the winners of its 2011 Excellence in Leadership awards. Jill Berry Bowen, CEO of Northwestern Medical Centeraccepted the award for Leadership in Quality Initiatives on behalf of the hospital.
