Question by Reasha: What degree do I need to become an art teacher?
I want to become an art teacher. I almost have my Associates in Art and I was wondering what I need to become a public school art teacher in NC. I am wondering also what degree I need to teach elementary students versus high school students. I really would rather teach elementary, but if I will require the same amount of education and time on my part, I might as well get paid more to teach the older students.

Best answer:

Answer by Josiah Wagoner
You will need a BA in Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education. In addition, you will need to gain teacher certification, which is most often done in conjunction with one of these degrees.

Best answer:

Answer by TD Euwaite on MiniDV™
Looking for critical dividing lines on the timetable of modern art is difficult because the objects and subjects are so diverse. For me, the best new category is “Bad Art.” There are so many modern artistic ideals reflected in it; laziness, commercialism, shock-value.

I am a second year student in ap art. This year, I have to make 12 concentrations for my portfolio. I chose to base my concentration or theme on emotions. So far I have made 5 concentrations, but every time I hand them in, my art teacher says they are not complicated. What else can I do to make them more complicated so that I can get a high score on my art portfolio?

Question by Opinionatedkitten: Does art shape culture and if so, is some art more desirable than others?
Art makes us feel a certain way. Makes us, perhaps, see the world in a certain way. This brings up a few questions.

-Is some art more desirable for society than others?
-Is some art more apt to develop desirables traits in a society than others?
-Does esthetics, in this case, become a political question?

Best answer:

Answer by Lunarsight
Art shapes culture, and culture shapes art. It’s a two-way street.

I respect art that doesn’t try and gloss over the problems of the world. While it shouldn’t be completely devoid of hope, it shouldn’t be afraid to show the dark, gritty underbelly of reality exactly for what it is.

Question by Katie: I want to go to an art school, but my friends and family are against it. What do i do?
I want to apply to an art school like Pratt or The art institute of Chicago. Art is the only thing im really passionate about, but my family and friends are concerned that im going to graduate and be really poor.

I want to be happy with myself, but i also want to make my friends/family happy.

Best answer:

Answer by Kelly Elizabeth
I understand why they dont want you to. They want you to be okay when you graduate. But I totally understand why you want to do something that your passionate about. I mean it is your life.

Have you ever thought that you could go to an art school, but take college courses at night? You get what you want, & its quite possible that this will make them happy too. It will be hardwork, & very busy, but its possible if you really want it to. You could take classes about other things that you could do on the side of Art. My friend went to design school, & took physcology classes at night. They took more classes also but they now have a degree for physcology & they can help people. While they do their interior design magic.

Just a thought.

Question by yosoylatina19: What materials will I need to create permanent chalkboard art?
I’d like to draw on a chalkboard with chalk and then seal it so the art is permanent. What materials will I need? I see restaurants do it all the time and would like to create one. Thanks in advance!

Best answer:

Answer by Iknowthis!
Easy, there is spray laquer. You could remove it with a chemical remover but it is very permanent and can be wiped with water, etc.

If you use a chalk fixative it can still be removed. You can buy laquer in a spray can for $ 3 at a craft store, Home Depot, Lowes, etc in matte or shiny finish. Rustoleum Painters Touch Spray Lacquer is one national brand that is easy to find.
