Many smokers who would like to quit the habit take them in because of the idea that by just popping pill for the prescribed duration of their treatment would help them reduce the effects of nicotine and at the same time, wean them off their nicotine dependency. One of these anti-smoking pills is Chantix. This drug raises several questions that a smoker might be asking himself or herself before taking this in. What exactly is Chantix and what is composed of? How does it exactly work to curb up the urge to smoke? How often must one take this and how long will the treatment last? And most importantly, are there any side effects and precautions associated with it? In this article, we are going to look into these questions and answer them so as to gain a better understanding of this drug.

Chantix was developed by Pfzer, a pharmaceutical company. This is a prescription medication used to treat smoking addiction. The active substance in this drug is known as Varenicline. This substance is a known is a partial nicotronic agonist, or simply a chemical that does not provoke the natural body response to nicotine as it blocks or dampens the nervous system’s natural nicotine receptors. As such, the United States food and Drug administration (FDA) gave it a priority review on February 2006 after a study was conducted showing its effectiveness. In May of 2006 the FDA approved Chantrix and was made available for sale in both the United States and the European Union on August of the same year. Overall, this medication has been specifically developed to aid smokers from the age of eighteen and over stop smoking.

Chantix aids in smoking cessation by working in two ways first, it targets the nicotine receptors in the brain and attaches to them blocking nicotine from being absorbed by these receptors. Second, it activates these receptors into producing dopamine, a chemical found in the brain and is responsible for the pleasure senses in the body. Being a partial nicotronic agonist, it binds to the nicotinic receptors in the brain and partially simulates these receptors without producing the full effect of nicotine. Furthermore varenicline, the active chemical found in this prescription drug, blocks the ability of nicotine to bind and stimulate the release of dopamine. Instead, it takes the place of nicotine in doing such. Although Chantix does not contain nicotine, it activates these receptors in the brain and causes a limited and controlled release of dopamine into the body. Hence it could be said that this medication work akin to Nicotine Replacement Therapies like nicotine patches and gums.

As to its dosage and use, this drug comes in two kinds of pill colors to differentiate the different dosages. The white tablet contains 0.5 mg while the blue one contains 1 mg. The usual recommended initial dosage is one 0.5 mg once a day. This can later be increased to 0.5 mg twice a day after three days. After seven days the dosage can be increased to 1 mg twice daily after seven days. Chantix is generally taken with a glass of water and a person taking this should neither skip doses or “double dose” once a dose has been skipped. Treatment takes an average of twelve weeks; and to be totally smoking free, a person may continue taking this pill in for another twelve weeks after the initial first twelve weeks. The effects may vary from one individual to another so it would be right to see a doctor before starting and be under a doctor’s supervision during the duration of the treatment. It is recommended that a smoker begins his or her Chantix treatment a week before stopping smoking completely, this is in order for the medication to build up in the body. A person may still continue to smoke during the first week of the treatment but must stop cold turkey on the eighth day of the treatment.

Chantix is considered to be a potent smoking cessation prescription drug in the medical circle. In a study involving two thousand long-time smokers who have been administered this drug; it was proven that Chantix is four times more effective compared to other smoking cessation medications. However, there are certain side effects associated with the taking in of this drug. The common side effects of this medication include: nausea, sleeping disorder and abnormal dreams, headache, change in taste, vomiting abdominal pain, constipation and flatulence. These are just the “tip of the iceberg” so to speak. In November 2007, the FDA has received alarming post-marketing reports from patients using Chantix for their smoking cessation treatment. These reports states that people who take in this medication experience several serious symptoms that includes suicidal ideations and behavior, erratic behavior, depression and severe mood swings. Due to this, the FDA issued an alert warning people as well as ordering further studies to see if there is a relation between Chantix and these reported serious neuropsychiatric symptoms. The FDA further recommended doctors and patient to pay close attention to any sudden mood swing that may be observed.

As a result of the FDA’s findings, the Institute for Safe medication Practices (ISMP) conducted an analysis on Chantix and has found out that this drug accounted for more side effects than any other drug. Suicidal acts and ideation, psychosis, and hostility or aggression, including homicidal ideation, were the most prominent psychiatric side effects. Other newly discovered side effects include heart rhythm disturbance, skin irritation, vision impairment and abnormal muscle spasms to name a few. As a result the FDA required Chantix to carry a black box warning, the agency’s strongest safety warning.

As a result of these side effects doctors recommend a number of precautions to smokers who wish to take Chantix. Pregnant and breastfeeding women must avoid taking this as this may cause adverse effects upon the child’s development. Because of the relationship between the neuropsychiatric effects of Chantrix, it is not advisable that people with a history of anxiety attacks and depression should take them in. furthermore this drug must not be taken together with insulin, blood thinners, vitamins and asthma medications as their chemical make up might offset each other. It is strongly recommended then, that smokers must consult their doctors and acquire a prescription from them before proceeding to such treatment.

Studies have shown that Chantix is a very potent and effective medication to help overcome nicotine dependency and fight off the discomfort posed by nicotine withdrawal. However, this is not the miracle “cure-all” that smokers have long been waiting for. Together with its potency comes a whole number of mundane and severe side effects that smokers who wish to try them pay close attention to. Hence, the advise and supervision of competent medical authorities is strongly needed.

What Is The Stop Smoking Injection Method?

Smoking Research

stop smoking injection method

A number of smoking cessation medications have been recently introduced into the market these days due to the growing awareness of the adverse health risks of smoking. These medications include quit smoking pills, nicotine gums and patches that smokers can choose from. And there is a treatment known as the “stop smoking” injection. This is considered to be one of the most popular smoking cessation treatment methods today. However before a person starts this treatment, there are some details that he or she must be aware of. In this article we are going to discuss the basics of a stop smoking injection; these include what is it, how does it work, how is it to be administered, its active ingredients, its effectiveness and the side effects and precautions as well as the advantages of this treatment one should take note of when undergoing the treatment.

The stop smoking shot is an injection that can help smokers quit smoking. Many people have tried using all kinds of methods such as taking in anti-smoking pills, nicotine gums and inhalers or even undergone hypnosis to no avail as they still find themselves smoking. The quit smoking injection can easily be considered as one of the more popular methods with regards to smoking cessation. According to studies it has, compared to nicotine replacement therapies and products, a seventy to eighty percent success rate; the highest compared to the aforementioned.

This stop smoking medication is administered by injecting it directly into a person’s blood stream. Typically, a patient will receive three shots of this injection; one given either on the hip or the arm and two shots given behind the ear. The main substances in this medication are atarax or atropine and scopolamine. Atarax is an antihistamine similar to Benedryl. This drug is usually used to treat symptoms of allergy. Scopolamine, an anticholinergic, anti-muscarinic drug, s primarily used as a motion-sickness or seasickness medication. And Atropine is used to treat stomach and intestinal spasms as well as decrease saliva production. These three substances have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These substances are injected in the body then flow in the blood stream. When it the flows into the brain, the stop smoking shot will then block the nicotine receptors in the brain and furthermore help ease the effects and symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. These drugs are safe for medication and are not addictive.

This type of treatment excels over other kinds in the market. This is because it directly targets the areas of the body affected by nicotine addiction. This shot is proven safe and non-addictive; it blocks the nicotine receptors and essentially replaces the euphoric effects of nicotine in the body. Another perk of this treatment is that it does not put more nicotine in the smoker’s body, paving the way for the body to return to its natural smoke-free state and at the same time eliminate the horrible and excruciating symptoms and effect of nicotine withdrawal. The stop smoking injections effectively addresses the worst part of stopping that prevents people from fully stopping. It effective fights off the strong urge and cravings to light up a stick as well as the irritability that smokers have to endure. In one study it was said that, “the smoker past these thresholds is what makes our medical stop smoking program clinically proven to be the most effective program to quit smoking in the world.”

However, the stop smoking injection is not for everybody. This is due to the fact that this is a medical procedure. Before undergoing this treatment, a person must undergo a physical examination, to determine one’s physical fitness, before the doctor can prescribe the said medication. And like other forms of medications, the stop smoking injection has it share of side effects. Those who are taking this in may experience temporary side effects such as blurred vision, dry mouth, confusion and dizziness. This may also result in rare and dangerous side effects such as hallucination, coma, heart attack and stroke as a result of the presence of atropine when given in high doses. This medication is also not advisable for people who are pregnant, have prostrate or heart problems as well as those who are taking mood-altering drugs.

This medication also has raised some criticisms. One of the major issues is that stop smoking shot is that it only targets the physical addiction. It does not target the psychological addiction, which many smokers find harder to conquer. This shot will not result in immediate smoking cessation. Another concern is with regards to the chemicals it contains. Atarax, one of the drugs present in this medication, may cause pregnancy complications in the first trimester. Scopolamine is also not safe for pregnant women as well as those who are nursing; and it may also cause constipation and dry mouth. And Atropine can cause a number of side effect such as sleeping disorder, headache and fever.

There are also those who believe in the effectiveness of this medication. Nicotine addiction has two aspects, the physical and psychological. This medication is aimed at breaking down the physical dependency on nicotine. This aspect of nicotine addiction is tough to break because of the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal such as nervousness, irritability, cold sweats, insomnia, cravings, and lack of focus, are being successfully addressed by this drug. The psychological aspect of nicotine addiction is also another strong barrier that a smoker must break through. But since stop smoking injections eliminate the harsh effects of withdrawal, the psychological nature of nicotine withdrawal can be much easier to break away from as a result. It must be noted that a patient usually needs one session and another additional treatment in order for this treatment to be effective.

The stop smoking injection is intended to aid cigarette smokers quit. It has been proven to work effectively on a number of patients by limiting the influence of nicotine in the body, especially the nervous system. Hence the smoker is no longer going to enjoy the effects of nicotine while smoking; as a matter of fact they would even feel uncomfortable when they do. The advantage of this is that is does not use nicotine like other products available such as gums, patches and inhalers. One must keep in mind that this medication is not designed to work alone; it can be supplemented by, for instance, participating in support group counseling in order to stave off the psychological aspects of nicotine addiction. Overall, when all other smoking cessation products and methods have failed, the stop smoking shot provides a very effective answer to a person dependency to light up a cigarette in order to get his or her nicotine fix.

Stop Smoking Hypnosis Is It Effective

Stop Smoking Tips

stop smoking hypnosis is it effective

There is a number of smoking cessation methods that a smoker can select from. These treatments, however, require a high amount of discipline and will effort as well as a certain amount of time for the treatment to effectively run its course. For people who find most smoking cessation treatments and methods time consuming, they may consider undergoing a stop smoking hypnotism treatment. Hypnotism is defined as a condition artificially induced in people wherein they either respond to certain questions or are susceptible to various kinds of suggestions. The stop smoking hypnotism method is the easiest and one of the most effective methods of smoking cessation. In this article we are going to discuss on the basics of this treatment, the methods employed in this treatment, points to remember when undergoing this treatment and the advantages of undergoing the stop smoking hypnotism treatment.

Let’s face the facts; it is difficult to stop smoking for two reasons. First it has become a habit like taking a shower or in the case of most smokers, a break after a stressful situation. In other words, lighting up a cigarette has become a ritual for smokers. The second reason is not only a physical habit but also a psychological one. Nicotine affects the psychological make up of the brain; providing the smoker temporary nicotine high, which would eventually result in addiction to the said substance. Hence withdrawal is both physical and psychological. This is were the stop smoking hypnosis comes in. contrary to popular belief that a persons is coerced or even induced while in a state wherein he or she has no free will, hypnotism actually simply involves achieving a state of relaxation where your mind is open to receive suggestions directly into the plane of the subconscious. But these suggestions will not be accepted by the mind if they contradict your core beliefs or values.

Our subconscious mind is more open to and ready to accept suggestions, which or normal consciousness my either not readily accept or reject such suggestions out rightly. Hypnosis works by altering the condition of the subconscious mind and “reprograms” it to stop smoking. For people who smoke, their subconscious mind has associated smoking with pleasure. When a smoker undergoes medication, this treatment only addresses the surface level of the conscious mind, hence making the person still prone to the physical and psychological discomforts of nicotine withdrawal, which makes smoking cessation a very difficult feat. In short, this treatment is a very simple process: it is aimed at a person’s subconscious mind; hypnosis is aimed at changing a person’s mindset about smoking and then as a result, it is going to change the said person’s behavior towards smoking.

The stop smoking hypnosis treatment programs usually have three stages; preparation, start stopping smoking and continue hypnosis sessions. First is preparation. Before a smoker starts smoking cessation hypnotherapy, it is highly recommended that he must “not” know how hypnosis works. The person who wishes to undergo this therapy must forget any preconceived ideas as well as any expectations about this process. Once this is done, a smoker strongly ought to start stopping his or her cigarette intake before beginning hypnosis treatment. Stop smoking hypnosis treatment will be rendered ineffective if a person continues smoking while undergoing treatment. Medical authorities suggest that through a 25-50% reduction is the right way to lead to quit smoking until you are assisted by a quit smoking by hypnosis.

The second stage of the stop smoking hypnosis method is to start stopping smoking. The best approach to this treatment is to first stop the entry of nicotine into the body. This is achieved by smoking cessation through the use of a person’s will power. When a smoker has chosen to stop smoking by means of hypnotherapy treatment, it means you will change the patterns of your subconscious mind. If a person continues to smoker, even if only once or twice day once the stop smoking period has begun, there is a high possibility that he or she is going to resume smoking and thereby rendering the stop smoking hypnosis therapy useless. A smoker must remember that the smoking cessation hypnotherapy treatment is designed to be complimented by the physical action of not taking anymore nicotine via cigarette smoking at all times.

The third stage of the treatment is to continue the hypnosis session. It is a well-known fact that there is no easy way to stop smoking. This is because the urge and craving to light up and take a long nice drag from a cigarette stick is very strong; and not to mention the discomforts cause by nicotine withdrawal. The stop smoking hypnosis treatment does not relieve a smoker from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. However, smoking cessation hypnotherapy is very significant in reducing the effects of withdrawal. Hypnosis will give you strength to overcome your pain; it will make you feel better in no time. When undergoing the stop smoking hypnosis treatment for a number of sessions, nicotine craving becomes nothing more than a physical reaction to nicotine withdrawal and hence much easier to curb than before. In these conditions a smoker feels physically uncomfortable when undergoing the stop smoking hypnosis treatment. But the smoker’s mind no longer has the same emotional desire to smoke.

Stop smoking hypnosis can be done either by self-administration or done by a certified professional. The first kind can be done by the smoker on his person by using CDs, tapes and other tools. This method largely depends on the smoker who can manage the necessary motivation and discipline required on his or her own. The second form is the conventional mode in which the smoker attends sessions with a trained hypnotist, or hypnotherapist. Both of these formats can be effective in giving up your cravings. The choice on what form of stop smoking hypnotherapy depends solely on the person who wishes to undergo this treatment. He may administer it on himself with the use of audio material or attend a series of sessions with a hypnotherapist. In either case, he or she must consult a doctor before hand.

Our subconscious is more powerful that our conscious mind. Hence, within the inner mind of most smokers is an endless ocean of willpower that hypnosis can help harness in order to help them cease smoking. While listening to positive suggestions along with guided imagery, you will gain the effect you desire. This is the easiest smoking cessation treatment a smoker can avail of. This method requires no medication whatsoever, only time and the willpower to stop smoking.

Anti-Smoking Prescription Drugs

Stop Smoking Tips

anti smoking drugs

Ever since people have become aware of the dangers of smoking, a huge number of smokers have begun reassessing their habit. This has lead to a number of people to give up on smoking in order to achieve good health. However, this proves to be easier said than done. According to a survey conducted, only five to ten percent of smokers who try to quit succeed. The majority of these fail from the very beginning as they succumb to the effects of nicotine withdrawal. The craving to smoke, the feeling of grumpiness and irritability, hunger and headache prove to be more than they can handle. This is because the brain is not getting its usual dose of dopamine. Pharmaceutical companies have then come up with drugs that can aid smokers quit in the form of smoking cessation medications. These drugs come in various form and work in different ways. The common forms of these medications are pills, nicotine patches, inhalers, gums and lozenges.

In this article we are going to find out why anti-smoking prescription drugs are effective. Second, we are going to discuss the different forms of these drugs and how are the administered. Third we are going to look into the advantages and disadvantages of using these drugs. And finally, we are going to assess these drugs based on the information provided.

In the last forty years that the means used by advocates of anti-smoking campaigns have failed. Prescription drugs have been proven to be more effective in smoking cessation compared to smoking bans, social pressure and public criticism. According to a research conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service, anti-smoking medicines can double or even triple the chances of a smoker quitting. There are fears that these pills may lead to another addiction. Contrary to this, according to the American Cancer Society, “It is a straightforward cost-benefit decision.” Smokers should weight between taking medications and smoking. Not surprisingly, many people prefer to take in these rather than continue smoking. However, this is not the magic cure-all that smokers have been waiting for; these drugs help a person wean away from smoking. And with every take of these drugs, the chance of quitting increases.

There are a number of anti-smoking drugs available in the market today. These however can only be bought with a doctor’s prescription as a person may suffer from a variety of side effect associated with the various drugs. But accordingly, these prove to be effective in terms of smoking cessation. These include anti-smoking pills and Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT). The latter refers to the administration of nicotine in the body by ways other than smoking tobacco.

Anti-smoking pills or quit-smoking pills such as Chantrix work by substituting the effect of nicotine in the brain; primarily by the production of dopamine which in turn increases the body’s pleasure senses. It also functions to reduce the effect of nicotine withdrawal. Smokers must take this in twice a day for at least seven to twelve weeks before the said medication takes full effect.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy involves the use of nicotine patches, nicotine gum, inhalers and nasal sprays. Nicotine patches are designed to release a certain amount of nicotine through the skin for about 16 to 24 hours. This is designed to ease the craving to smoke by providing enough nicotine in the body. Treatment by this method usually takes six to eight weeks. Nicotine gums are chewed to deliver nicotine in the body via the blood vessels in the mouth. Smokers should chew this like an ordinary gum for 30 minutes or until the peppery taste fades. Doctors recommend smokers chew 20 to 30 pieces a day for six to eight weeks. Inhalers work by delivering a specific amount of nicotine that a smoker must “puff” similar to cigarettes. Unlike cigarettes, it does not contain any of the 4,000 harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke such as carbon monoxide. His treatment usually takes twelve weeks depending on the patient’s progress. Nasal inhalers work by delivering nicotine through the nose. The recommended use is two sprays an hour for a period of three months.

There are a number of opinions regarding smoking cessation drugs; some argue against it while some support it. Some people fear that anti-smoking prescription drug can lead to prescription drug abuse or the dependency on these drugs. The idea of kicking off nicotine addiction for another possible one makes some people nervous. These critics believe that this causes nothing but a cycle of substance dependency. Others claim that these drugs are ineffective such as in the case of NRT. Nicotine is an addictive substance found in tobacco. Although it is not carcinogenic, there are speculations that nicotine encourages the growth of caner cells in the body. Furthermore, there are concerns that NRTs affect developing fetuses in pregnant women who are undergoing such treatment. These concerns stem from the fact that nicotine, although in controlled or small dosages, can still affect the psychological development and behavioral pattern of the unborn child. Finally, another criticism on these medications is that they cater only to a limited population as they can not be easily availed. The only means by which this could be done is through a doctor’s prescription

There are also does who believe that anti-smoking prescription drug is the long awaited answer to nicotine addiction. As mentioned earlier, quitting may prove to be difficult for some smokers; by using or taking in these medications, they can ease the way toward their ultimate goal of achieving good health. These drugs may have certain uncomfortable side effects that can be very trying to those who take them. However, health expert say that these side effects are a sign that the body is going back to normal as the nicotine level decreases. As to the speculations regarding the negative effect on the health of people who take them, some believe that these are baseless fear because these medications have been tested and approved by health authorities around the word. And finally the reason why these are not available to the general public is that there are some people who might have severe reaction to these thus requiring a doctor’s prescription is for their own good.

Anti-smoking prescription drugs provide smokers a convenient manner by which to kick off the habit. They prove to be easy to apply and it does not take a degree in rocket science to administer them on one’s self. They come in varies shapes and form but they have the primary purposes of decreasing one’s desire to smoke a cigarette and to reduce the effects of nicotine withdrawal. However, there are two schools of argument regarding how safe and how effective smoking cessation medications are. But in the end, it all depends on how much effort a smoker is willing to put in so as to stop smoking. Quit-smoking pills provide them a fighting chance at this.

Incoming search terms:

anti-smoking prescription drugs

what anti smoking medications are available

Why Smoke prescription

Different Kinds of Anti-Smoking Pills and Their Side Effects

Stop Smoking Tips

anti smoking pills

Nicotine withdrawal causes discomfort among people who want to kick off smoking. The first two weeks of quitting smoking seems to be hell for smokers. The craving to light up a cigarette seem to be too over powering, the mood swings make these people unpredictable and the physical maladies associated with it prove to be all but impossible to bear. Lucky for them there are a number of different medications available to these smokers. Two of these are stop smoking pill and anti-depressants.

Anti-smoking pills are designed to relieve smokers from the effects of nicotine withdrawal and at the same time, assist people in their smoking cessation treatment. These pills contain either a small amount of nicotine or some other substance that can stimulate the effects of nicotine in the body. While antidepressants work by relaxing the nerves and reducing stress. Everyday people are exposed to a number of stress, this results in one of the reasons why people smoke. These medications come in a variety of brands and are available by means of a doctor’s prescription to those who need it.

The different kind of anti-smoking pills are Zyban, Chantrix, Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Rimonabant. To further understand on this matter, we are going to discuss the different kinds of smoking-cessation pills. What are their active ingredients and how do they work? What is the dosage of each and how long will their respective treatments last? And what are the side effects of each?

Zyban is produced by GlaxoSmithKline. This is an antidepressant that has been found to aid in smoking cessation. This works by reducing the tobacco craving of smokers and at the same time it lessens the effect of nicotine withdrawal. The active chemical in this drug is bupropin. Bupropin works in the brain by triggering the production of noradrenaline and dopamine, chemicals that stimulate the pleasures senses in the nervous system. Nicotine has also the same effect; hence, Zyban works by giving the same sensation that nicotine provides. However, this pill has a side effect: it may cause insomnia, constipation and diarrhea. In certain patients, it can cause seizures. The recommended dosage is two pills a day for at least seven weeks. However, Zyban is not recommendable for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Chantrix was developed by Phyzer. This is a non-nicotine prescription drug specifically developed to aid smokers aged 18 and old stop smoking. It contains a substance called varenicline. This medication works in two ways. First it attaches to and blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain, blocking it. Second, it activates these receptors, causing a reduced release of dopamine. This results in the smoker not getting the same satisfaction from smoking as before but their pleasure senses are still being triggered, however, by another chemical. This pill is taken in twice a day for a period of twelve weeks. It is recommended that people should start taking this pill eight days before you stop smoking. Side effects of this drug include nausea, dizziness, depression and mood swings. Chantrix is not recommended for people with either kidney diseases or a history of mental disorders.

Zoloft is an antidepressant categorized under a group of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is use to treat depression, OCD, anxiety disorders and post traumatic stress. This drug affects the chemicals in the brain that have become imbalanced due to depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsiveness. It may also be used in smoking cessation, but this is still rebuttable, as there are not enough studies regarding this. Side effects from taking Zoloft may include Decreased appetite or weight loss; diarrhea or loose stools; dizziness; drowsiness; dryness of mouth; headache; increased sweating; nausea; stomach or abdominal cramps, gas, or pain; tiredness or weakness; trembling or shaking; trouble in sleeping.

Wellburin is an antidepressant that is used to treat social phobia and anxiety with depression. The active substance in this is bupropin. This is the same substance found in Zyban. Hence, this medication can also be used in smoking cessation. GlaxoSmithKline repackaged this into Zyban in order to avoid negative reaction from consumers who think negative about treating nicotine addiction with antidpressants. Some of the most common side effects of this may include agitation, weight loss, nausea, headache and constipation to name a few.

Rimonabant is an anorectic anti obesity drug. This is considered to be an appetite suppressant. It works by blocking a cellular receptor in the endocannabinoid system of the brain, believed to influence the regulation of body weight, glucose and lipid metabolism. In doing so it is believed that this regulation then reduces the craving to eat more. Rimonabant may also be used to assist smokers to quit smoking. There have been studies aimed at finding if this drug can; first aid people in smoking cessation treatment and second, to prevent former smokers from gaining weight. Initial results have suggested that Rimonabant is effective for both uses. Accordingly to a review, this drug may increase the possibility of quiting by one and a half fold. The side effect of this drug includes depression, suicidality, anxiety and other psychiatric effects. These are more rampant on people who have been using Riminabant for over a long period of time. Because of these, the United States Food and Drug Administration can not approve the use of this dug without further studies to back up the initial study conducted by Sanofi-Aventis, the pharmaceutical company that developed this drug.

There are a number of anti-smoking pills and antidepressants in the market today. These work by either blocking the nicotine receptors in the brain or stimulating the effects of nicotine in the body. And at the same time, they wean off smokers by means of reducing the impact of nicotine withdrawal on smokers. Although they provide relief to smokers, these drugs have side effects ranging from a simple constipation to psychiatric effects. Thus, before taking them, people who smoke ought to visit their doctors and ask them the pros and cons of taking these. In the end, it is still a smoker’s choice whether to take them or not.

Incoming search terms:

anti smoking pills

kinds of anti

nicotine widrawal effect

side effect of smoking

side effects of nicotine withdrawal

Are Stop-Smoking Prescription Drugs Addictive?

Smoking Research

stop smoking prescription drugs

Stop-smoking or anti-smoking drugs are designed to aid people fight off the urge to smoke. As the threat of smoking on our health is becoming widely known and accepted, a number of smokers want to break free from this habit. However, smoking cessation proves to be difficult to these people. This is either because the urge to smoke can be too be overpowering for them or the can not seem to overcome the effects of nicotine withdrawal. This is where stop-smoking drugs come into use. These function by stimulating the effects of nicotine in the nervous system and help reduce the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. These medications come in the forms of pills, patches, gums and nasal sprays that can only be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. This is because these medications can have a variety of side effect upon the user; hence, the professional opinion of a doctor is needed in this case. Anti-smoking medications show a lot of promise in decreasing the number of smokers. However, there are doubts about these, to be specific; may these medications lead to prescription drug abuse as a result to continuous use of these?

Prescription drug abuse or otherwise known as pill addiction refers to the intentional use of these medications in order to achieve or maintain their sedative, stimulant or intoxicating effects on the person using them. The occurrence of this phenomenon began with the introduction of repeat prescription, or patients can have their prescription renewed without having to visit a doctor again in order to get a new prescription. Instead they would buy these medications beforehand then let their physician sign the purchase form later. Although this method may seem practical at first, it facilitates substance abuse in the long run.

Prescription drug abuse is generally overlooked by the medical profession. Normally, a patient is allowed twelve repeats before he ought to visit his physician in order to review his treatment. However, this is not frequently being followed; thus resulting in prescriptive drug abuse. The same is true with that of smoking cessation drugs. This is true especially with regards to quit-smoking pills; this is because the types and kinds of prescription drugs that would lead to addiction are wide and varied.

People who are into prescription drug abuse manifest a number of different symptoms. The main symptom of which is that they developed a higher tolerance to the prescribed medication. Over time the effects of anti-smoking prescription drug would wean in its effect. The user would then need to have a higher amount of the dosage in order to maintain the effects of the said drug. This leads to many problems, such as the drug would no longer be as effective as before or would even be useless. Another of the problems that this can result to is that the symptoms why anti-smoking medications were taken in the first place would be difficult to control. For instance, since a smoker has

taking anti-smoking drugs for a long period of time and he has not yet gotten over it, the symptoms and effects of nicotine withdrawal is going to continue to bother the user even though he has been taking in medications. Therefore, it becomes difficult for people to control the urge to smoke.

Another symptom of prescription drug abuse is that it usually leads to physical dependence. This means that the person cannot function normally without the drug. The body adopts and functions properly with the presence of anti-smoking drugs in the system. However, when the treatment ends, the smoker may suffer from pill withdrawal. This may lead the person to suffer from severe physical illnesses, mood swings and depression. It is curious to note that nicotine addiction and nicotine withdrawal have the same effect on people. So is it safe to say that nicotine addiction and stop-smoking prescription drug abuse are synonymous?

Most people would answer yes these two are synonymous. However, the real answer is no. those who suffer from stop-smoking prescription drug abuse are not into it to experience the “high” that these drugs provide. Instead, they take in these medications in order to maintain the effects of these in their bodies. And another difference is that addiction to prescription drug happens gradually over a long period of time by taking the same drug to treat some medical disorder.

The third and most obvious symptom of prescription drug abuse is that the user cannot stop using them. Users tend to increase in presenting their prescriptions in pharmacies in order to avail themselves of these medications. They have a number of reasons for doing such; for example they need an extra dosage either because they are going on a long vacation or that their doctors are not going to be available in the foreseeable future. In the case of smoking cessation drugs, people tend to continue taking them in on the idea that the continuous use of these drugs would keep their urge to smoke tobacco at a minimum; or that even after the treatment, the effects of nicotine withdrawal would begin to pop up. This is not true after the seven to twelve week treatment; the smokers have been weaned away from their nicotine intake. In other words the continued intake of quit-smoking drug beyond the tenure of the treatment is not necessary since the need for tobacco intake has been curbed down and the onset of nicotine withdrawal at this time is no longer feasible.

As the old saying goes, “too much of something good is bad,” that same is true with the intake of smoking cessation prescription drugs. People who want to break free from their dependence on one substance my find themselves becoming dependent on another one, in this case, from nicotine to stop-smoking medication. This is because the latter has the same effects in the brain as nicotine; it releases chemicals that can boost our feeling of calm and satisfaction. Doctors and pharmacist must be aware of this and the potential problems that may result from it, and must advise the patent on how to deal with it. Once prescription drug abuse has been confirmed, or better yet, admitted by the patient, steps must be taken to counter this. For instance, the dose of stop-smoking medication ought to be reduced gradually rather than stopping the in take abruptly. Doctors can help facilitate this. Smoking cessation prescription drug abuse may lead into potential problems by making innocent smokers hooked onto something else. Kicking prescription drug abuse may prove not to be easy, but it is far better than becoming a life habit.

Incoming search terms:

saying for drugs and smoking

anti-smoking opinions

stop smoking reviews medication prescription

Can Pills Help People Stop Smoking?

Stop Smoking Tips

stop smoking pills

In the last couple of decades a number of scientific breakthroughs that have led to a significant number of innovations in the medical field. One of these innovations is the prescription pill. These days there are pills for almost any ailment or discomfort that people suffer from; we now have pills that can ease the symptoms of the common cold, painkillers that can sooth our aches and pains, and pill that can fight off insomnia. In short, when we feel something, all we got to do is just pop a pill. And now, another kind of pill has been produced. This is the anti-smoking pill. What then is an anti smoking pill and what are examples of these that are available in the market today? What is their chemical composition and how do they work? Do they have any side effects and how long will they take effect? In this article, we are going to look into this and leave it up to you to decide on its effectiveness.

There are many smoking cessation products and methods that have recently pop-up in the market today. Many of us want to stop smoking and an anti-smoking pill is a new prescription drug designed to help smokers to stop their craving for cigarettes and reduce the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Several pharmaceutical companies have developed and produced such. These are gaining in popularity due to people’s perception that it offers an easy way to cease smoking by just popping a pill as prescribed by their doctors. However, this is not the “mythical cure all” pill that smokers have been waiting for. These pills work as a support to a person’s goal to quit smoking and it does not function as a primary smoking cessation device. In other terms human factor still plays a major role in quitting smoking and anti-smoking pill work as supplements.

There are two popular kinds of anti-smoking pills in the market today, namely Zyban and Cantrix. Both contain active chemicals that are responsible suppressing people’s urge to light up a stick of cigarette. Zyban does not contain nicotine but a chemical known as bupropin. This chemical was originally developed to treat depression but was later discovered to affect the nervous lanes of the brain which triggers the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Chantrix, the first anti-smoking pill ever developed, contains an active substance called varenicline. This works by blocking the areas of the brain which is affected by nicotine. Both chemicals work by boosting the levels of two chemicals that affect the brain- dopamine and norepinephrine. These chemicals in the brain work by giving people a sense of energy and well-being- the same as that of nicotine. Hence, the chemicals found in anti smoking pill give smokers the same effect as that of nicotine and at the same time, reduces their urge to smoke. It should be noted, however, smokers must combine the use of these pills with the positive mind set about breaking away from the habit.

Anti-smoking pills or otherwise known as quit-smoking pills are quite new. Hence being a new form of smoking cessation, studies on its effectiveness are not so many. However these studies have shown that the effectiveness of anti-smoking pills is very promising. In one study conducted, it was proven that these pills are more effective than nicotine patches; using both pills and patches are even more effective but may lead to an increase in blood pressure. In another study conducted, anti-smoking pills were given to people who have been smoking for over a long period of time. It was discovered in this study, that approximately one in every four smokers who have taken this medication have stop smoking and are smoke-free for over a year since. The effectiveness of this new drug is because of the active chemical mixture found in them. These efficiently imitate the effects of nicotine in the body. This leads to the brain being fooled that it is receiving it usual amount of nicotine, without the negative aspects associated with smoking. the reason why many smokers fail to give up smoking is due to the fact they can not endure the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. These pill help to negate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and at the same time wean off from smoking by simulating the effect of nicotine.

Just as like other kinds of medication, anti-smoking pills do have side effects. Some people who have taken anti-smoking pills have experienced sleeping disorders, dry mouth and constipation. While others experienced serious side such as either hallucination, change in behavior or sudden drastic mood swings. Zyban is known to cause dry mouth and insomnia as its common side effects and can even trigger seizure in some patients. Chantrix, on the other hand may cause nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, sleep disorders, gas, sleeplessness, constipation, headache, weakness, tired feeling, increased appetite and loss of taste as well as allergic reactions. Anti-smoking pills may also result in a drastic change in behavior and mood swings. Smokers who take this are strongly recommended to stop taking them and to see their doctors in case they start feeling agitated, hostile, depressed; have suicidal thoughts or develop thoughts about self-harming. Therefore, anti-smoking pill are not recommended for a number of different people: pregnant or breast-feeding women, people with eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, those taking medication for depression; and peoples suffering from seizure disorders such as epilepsy. Therefore, they can only be availed of only with a doctor’s prescription.

Anti-smoking pills are not a “one take wonder” drug. Instead, it must be take just like any other medication. In general, most of these pills are taken twice a day; one in the morning and one in the early evening. It takes about approximately a week for the pill to reach an effective level in the body. Thus, smokers ought to start taking the pill before the start to quit-not during. Then, they need to set a date when they wish to quit one or two weeks after starting taking in anti-smoking pills. Overall, the average amount of time before the pills take effect is from seven to twelve weeks.

In conclusion, the anti smoking pill is a new smoking cessation product that is aim at helping smokers quit. Studies have shown that it does help reduce the number of smokers. The former aside, this medication has certain side-effect that people must take notice of before trying them. But in the end, smokers must not put their faith in this drug as when it all boils down, personal self determination is still the key to break away from the habit.

Incoming search terms:

does smoking pills have the same effects

does the smoking pill work 2011

new prescription pill to help stop smoking july 2011
