National Scrapbook Day Remembered

With National Scrapbook Day quickly approaching, I thought I would reminisce on the events of last year.

I was asked if I would teach a class at Scrappin’ Goodtime in Corsicana, TX. I love teaching and since I had been on a “Badge Kick”, I thought it would be fun to have the ladies make their own name badges to wear at retreats or at scrapbook conventions.

All of the ladies had such a good time and I was completely amazed at how different each of them looked with everyone using the same products. We made several different type flowers using P K Glitz glitter, Sticky Paper, and Ritzy Ditzy Glitz and arranged them in a pretty a bouquet to place on the corner of the badge. We also used a piece of Background Art Acetate to add a glittery background to the badge. Some of the ladies used this project for their scrapbook pages and others made them for gifts and also to wear to shows.

Glitzing Up Vintaj

I was first introduced to Vintaj in early 2009 and was completely enthralled with all of their metal accents. This company, of course, was targeting the jewelry making community, but I immediately saw potential in mixed media and paper crafts as well.
The Vintaj findings have beautiful design detail and each of the rich caramel brass pieces have great depth and dimension.

I wanted to add color to the pieces and the best way to do that was to use P K Glitz products. To find out how I accomplished this visit the P K Glitz blog where you can find all of the details.

Glitter Eggs

I thought this would be a fun little project to create for spring / Easter. I am reposting this from the P K Glitz blog last year.

Darcie, one of our lovely P K Glitz blog readers, spied the sparkly eggs in our blog banner this month and wanted to know how to make them.

Make sure you look all the way at the bottom to find a store in your area that is featuring this project.

Supplies:

Glitter: Cotton Candy, Orange Sherbet, Sunshine, Spring Green, Sweet Pea, Crystal (P K Glitz)
Sticky Paper: quarter sheets (3) (P K Glitz)
Sticky Tape: 1/2” (P K Glitz)
Anti Static Brush (P K Glitz)
Small Smoothfoam eggs (purchased at Hobby Lobby)
Organdy Ribbon
Straight Pin
Small Floral Punch (E K Success), or use your Die Cutting Machine

Instructions:

Remove backing from Sticky Paper
Drizzle first glitter color choice over the paper; brush off excess
Drizzle second glitter color choice onto the remainder of the Sticky Paper; brush off excess
Make sure the entire piece of Sticky Paper is covered with glitter before proceeding
Repeat the above process with the remainder of the colors, using only 2 colors per quarter sheet
Punch flower shapes from each of the glittered quarters
Add vertical rows of Sticky Tape on your Smoothfoam egg.
Make a loop with your organdy ribbon and attach it to the top with a straight pin. With another piece of ribbon, tie a bow around the base of the loop.
Lay each flower (glitter side up) in the palm of your cupped hand, and gently press the center with a stylus. This will cause all of the flower petals to be lifted up.
Remove covering off of Sticky Tape one strip at a time and begin placing flowers randomly along the Sticky Tape.
Use the end of your stylus to press in the center of each flower to make sure they are secure on the tape.
Continue this process until the egg is completely covered.
If desired, you can add a small piece of sticky tape to one area of your ribbon tails to hold them in place against your finished egg. This step is optional.

Butterfly on Hibiscus

I created this pretty card last year for the P K Glitz blog. With spring just a few weeks away, I wanted to share it with all of you.

For many of us, flowers are in bloom, the birds are singing, and the butterflies and hummingbirds dance their way from petal to petal in our gardens. It is a beautiful time of the year!

The Butterfly on Hibiscus Art Acetate reminds me of this time of year.

This design is so delicate with all of the swirls laid on the flowers and butterfly. This Art Acetate makes a stunning pieces for any card, scrapbook page, or altered item.

Hello out there!!!

It's me… Tammy… remember?

I used to make really neat crafty items, and you would comment and “ooooo” and “aaaahhhh” over them?

I was going to tell you this funny story about my life since October 2011 but honestly, so much has happened that I realized it would probably take weeks (or months) to write it all down.

Here is the summary since October 2011:

Cell Phones	Totals

iPhone 4s	1

Laptop	Repairs
Sent in to Geek Squad for RAM or hard drive issues; non working optical drive; plus other issues	Replaced keyboard – solved all problems (HA)
Online Geek Squad repair	too many calls and pieces of advice to count – but all eventually saying RAM or Motherboard issues
In store Geek Squad repair	Can’t replace RAM because of the equipment; restored laptop; Anti virus checks (multiple); scans of every imaginable kind, etc.

I have logged close to 1,000 miles taking the phones and laptop in for repairs; over 24 hours of calls to support/help desk/customer service; 3 week of lost work time; and spoke to more supervisors and managers that really didn’t care whether any of my issues were resolved or not.

Since I work from home as the Marketing & Sales Rep for P K Glitz, my laptop and phone are my two pieces of equipment that I need to run my business. It is hard to estimate the amount of money that has been lost due to the stress of the entire situation, plus gasoline, wear and tear on the vehicle, etc.

At the time of this writing, my laptop is still at the in store Geek Squad center and was suppose to be repaired and returned to me 2 days ago; no phone calls; no updates; no customer service.

I will say that after 4 months of tears, heartache, loss of work, and so much more, Apple has made things right with my iPhone and I am now in possession of an iPhone 4s (great phone, but I still don’t know what all the fuss is since it the same as my 3gs – only slightly smaller).

As for Best Buy and their Black Tie Service Plan and Online Geek Squad support – the verdict is still out.

The one thing that I have discovered through this process is that you spend hundreds of dollars on warranties at time of purchase; but in reality it would have been less expensive to throw away the broken piece of equipment and purchase a new one. It may seem ridiculous at the time, but it has been my experience, that it will not be fixed the first time and when they can’t figure it out, they will start to blame the problem on something you are doing wrong. Of course, they change their tune when it starts happening to them (which was the case with the phones and the laptop).

I am telling you all of this to say “I NEED A BREAK!”.

I have to regain my focus and I still have the laptop issue that needs to be resolved.

I am focusing every bit of energy I have into P K Glitz.

All of my creative juices will be channeled that direction, so I ask you to please stick with me and join me at my “Vacation Home” -

the P K Glitz Blog.

Will I ever come back here? I hope so – that is my plan anyway – I just don’t know when.

This has been a hard decision in fear that some of you may not want to "Vacation” with me in the “Land of Glitter and Embossing Powder”.

I think it will be fun, so at least give it a try….

Where Beauty Meets Function

The past several months has found me in a whirlwind. So much so that I have neglected sharing many things with you and one of them was the happy chance of meeting Erin, from Where Beauty Meets Function.

It was over Christmas break (2011) when Erin and I met at The Little Blue House (a local scrapbook store).

While I was there, I had to get out my glitter, of course. Does that surprise you? I thought not.

Be My Valentine

Over the past few weeks, the P K Glitz blog has been featuring some really neat techniques in the “Jammie Classroom”. One of the techniques that was taught by Janelle, owner of P K Glitz, was a Magic Slider Card.

It looks complicated, but it really isn’t. If you follow along with Janelle, she takes through all of the steps to create this fun card.

While the card is closed the pictures appears to be a lined image, but when you pull up on the tab, the image changes to a beautiful glittery picture.

I decided to give it a try for myself. So here is what I came up with ….

I added words to the image that you see when the card is closed. You can do this by stamping onto the acetate with Staz-on ink.

Look at all of that sparkle! Isn’t it lovely? This interactive card would also be really fun to give to a child for a birthday or special day.

Western Style Glasses and Coasters

I have been wanting to try glass etching with my Silhouette but have been so nervous about it. I am not sure what I was so nervous about not because it was so easy!

I used vinyl and a Silhouette file to cut a stencil for each of the glasses. I placed the stencil on the glasses and made sure all edges were secure. I then added the Etching Cream and let it sit for about 10 - 15 minutes. When the time had passed, I scrapped the excess back into the Etching Cream jar and rinsed the glasses with cool water until all of the residue was removed. I then removed the vinyl and was left with custom drinking glasses.

Glasses need to be washed in warm soapy water before using.

After using the vinyl stencil for the glasses I was left with matching vinyl horse heads. I placed the vinyl silhouettes in the center of tumbled tiles that were purchased at my home improvement center. The tiles looked a bit plain, so I purchased a barbed wire frame from the Silhouette store and cut one for each of the tiles.

I can't believe how easy this was and it made the perfect gift for my friend!

Jammie Class Valentines

Yesterday, P K Glitz opened their "Jammie Classroom" and I just have to say that everyone who attended seemed to enjoy it!

If you have seen Janelle at any of the scrapbook shows, you have probably already seen the "Glitter on Acetate" technique that was featured in this first class. None the less, it is great to actually have her demonstrate this technique for me to refer back to at anytime. I can stop and start the video (something that can't be done at the show) as many times as I like and go back to things I might have missed or forgotten. It is a great point of reference!
