BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

This was a great start to Ednah’s new Runes series.

The first chapter, if I was to be honest, was very much like the first chapter of Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout.... but then, it changed.

I think this book has the influence of Lux series and The Mortal Instruments. Which is a good thing.

Eirik is Raine’s childhood friend, they are endeavouring to have a relationship that crosses over from just friends to boyfriend, but the new guy with the Harley across the street who just happens to be living in Eirik’s old home, shows up on her doorstep.

Raine seems to emotionally bounce between Eirik who she has wanted to like her, more than a friend.... to Torin. She gets her wish with Eirik , but is very unsettled with this wish, having Torin across the street.

Now I did have a little bit of trouble with that whole wanting Torin, I mean who wouldn’t the guy is absolutely stunning... and Eirik the boyfriend. I felt like Eirik and Cora were going to eventuate. I just got that vibe. There was a lot of lusting after Torin, but Raine has Eirik. But she likes Torin, but she has Eirik.

I love Eirik, he is a very sweet guy....but then you have Torin.

YOWZER!

I loved how Ednah keeps us guessing as to what Torin and co are. I had no idea, until all is revealed. I really enjoyed that aspect. It made the pages turn.

Ednah throws us off the sniffer trail with who the real villains of the story are, and I really enjoyed that.

As this is the first book in the series, there is more getting to know characters for the most part of the book and then it takes off with all these things happening, left, right and center.

I did guess where some things were heading, but what I loved was I didn’t guess the why.

That I enjoyed very much.

I thought maybe the story got rushed in certain parts and maybe not enough emphasis on something that I thought was pretty important in Raine’s life.

I really love hearing a guy have a pet name for the one he likes and I loved hearing Torin call Raine, ‘Freckles.’ It was sweet.

“If I marked you, Freckles, I’d be under your skin. You wouldn’t think of anything or anyone but me twenty- four-seven.”

Some great sub characters. Andris was one of those. I was kept guessing if he was somebody I should like or not like. Sometimes I didn’t, sometimes I thought he could be ok, but then....???

I will say, Ednah puts some great little twists into her first instalment, and of course, THAT ENDING!!!!

LOL!! I think a few people will be face planting with that ending J

An enjoyable YA read that left me very intrigued to know more AFTER THAT ENDING!! J

EDNAH WALTERS grew up reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys and dreaming of one day writing her own stories. BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Branded is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated debut dystopian’s of 2013. It is a fearless page turner, and very enthusiastic with the darkness and brutality of a dystopian world.

Branded captured my attention within the first 10 pages, I knew I was in for a fast paced dystopian rollercoaster ride. You will feel a circle of ever changing emotions and genuine fear for some characters....and your heart will break.

I will admit I had a girlie cry.

These two debut authors know how to bring a dystopian filled with energy, grit, violence and heartache. They are fearless and relentless with what they put their characters through.

OMG!!!!

Seriously, the brutal scenes are written ...well, BRUTAL. Visually I was right there in the front row with my popcorn and M & M’s stuffing them in my mouth out of sheer fear.

I could not look away.

The Hole has a very apt title, it is a filthy place that devours people, no one escapes. The branded Sinners live day to day, death and disease around every corner, coming also in the form of gangs, for sport or for lust or greed.

Dog eat dog.

The Commander is in the background while his terrifying minion Wilson, and the guards of the Hole shoot first, ask questions later.

He struts in like a king, looking immaculate in his fresh-pressed, stiff uniform. His knee-high boots shine with a new coat of polish. He scans the room, resting his callous eyes on me.
I blink away the smell of his heavy cologne and stand. “Wilson, what a pleasure.”

The Hole is very unforgiving.The inmates are brutal, violent and fresh meat is fought over.

Lexi Hamilton is fresh meat.

Nowhere is she safe.

Lexi Hamilton is guilty as charged, branded, all dignity taken from her. No such thing as innocent until proven guilty.

No judge. No jury.

When they come for you, you run and hope you can escape. The chances are... you won’t. You will be sentenced to a life that could be short lived.

He thinks I’m so easily broken.
The commander doesn’t know anything about me, what I grew up with, what I endured—the father I lost, the mother I hate, the brother who walked out of my life, and the stepfather I was forced to accept. He thinks since I was rich, making me poor will cause me to give up. What he doesn’t understand is that, after my father passed away, I grew up behind walls of hatred. You will love Cole.

Cole has a heart underneath the mask.

Is he afraid he’ll hurt me? “You won’t break me if that’s what you’re worried about.”
He walks over, places one arm around my back, and lifts me from under my legs so they dangle. I feel like a baby. I rest my head on his shoulder and smell his fresh cotton shirt.
“After this, I’m not sure anyone could,” he whispers.

The sub characters are intriguing. I found myself pondering and throwing around theories.

Will I be right?

Bruno and Alyssa are faves of mine. Bruno , loyal, trustworthy.... a friend when you need one.

Doc Sutton. He has a heart, but don’t cross him.

Zeus, the Great Dane is both protector and a great licker. He can make you laugh and he can hope you never get on his bad side.

I had many favourite scenes. Some of them were violent. I am not a violent person, but a dystopian world is not a world that smiles easily. A dystopian world will always have an evil , power hungry villain with minions working against good, and death is a daily occurrence .

Some of the scenes were...well, beautiful moments, heart breaking moments and moments where a glimmer of normality peeked through for Lexi.

This is a very well written book, with seeds dropped like bread crumbs for future installments.

I loved the twists and when I thought I was onto something, I was hit with a nice curveball , didn't see that coming.

These two debut authors write seamlessly as though they are one. You can tell how connected they are to each other and the story they want to bring to the reader.

They know what makes a good dystopian rock your face off.

This is a kick ass dystopian with bite. The girls will kick their characters to the ground for them to rise and fight back.

The girls have me rather intrigued about a character we get a glimpse of.

I am excited to read Banished, Sinners # 2. Ooo yeah there's a scoop for ya.

I am gonna say, this is one of the BEST book trailers I have seen by Indie Authors. Regina Wamba Mae I Design and Photography made the trailer, the girls did the script for it and it is FREAKIN' A1.

This trailer just sells the book and story. I know cause I have read the book. I love the colours , the scenes chosen, and the words. The music gives it that movie trailer quality.

Well done Regina, amazing job, well done Abi & Missy for writing such a wonderful dystopian.

Dexter

Mom’s still working at the hospital so my only choice is to walk. Twenty seconds into my escape, the first raindrop splatters on my eyelid. I shake it off and tip my head to the sky. Bloated, gray clouds hog the space above. I can’t remember it being blue in so long. This Melbourne winter isn’t much better than when I was a kid in Chicago. But we don’t even get snow here. It’s just freezing.

Freezing. The word escapes and I feel it. My bones are rattling. Looking down, I remember I put on my holey jeans and my black shirt with the rolled sleeves at my elbows. If I could do over my pitiful walk out of Dad’s and my argument, I would have grabbed my hoodie.

And that’s when everything gets fucked up. I give myself a handshake, tap my cheeks. Nope, I’m hot still. Not cold at all. Which means…I don’t want it to be true but—

I’m holding my fingers in front of my face. I stop at the corner of our street, a car vrooming past, another coming up, but I don’t hear them because it’s become quiet in my world. I feel my fingers trembling before I see them quiver and blur as my vision falters.

This is karma, I bet. I’m having a hypo attack ‘cause I’m diabetic, by which I’m essentially…what’s the word… What am I…?

My mind is looping already. It’s bad, I know. I was so wrung up arguing with Dad I didn’t notice it, but now I do. Trembling when his face came near had nothing to do with being scared.

I need sugar quick, like I do with every hypo. I pat my pockets down but I only feel my leg through the material, because, of course, I hate carrying my candy on me in case someone sees and asks what it is for.

Fuck my diabetes. I’m my own worst enemy. My body can’t even sustain itself. My blood sugar level is dropping, and it’s making my steps wobbly.

One of the cars approaching slows. Noises come from chatter inside. I refuse to look and give those shitheads the time of day since I know exactly what they’re looking for. But when I hear a snicker I start. I swear I know that voice. If I had to guess, I’d say it belongs to Robby. I haven’t seen him since before the Mason’s ski accident mess when he used to talk and hang with me in the group.

Lucky I decide to turn after all because an egg, followed by another, tumbles in the air in a direct line for me. I duck and they sail just over my hairline.

When another car slows, I’m ready to fucking lose it, even if it only backs up my new reputation as a killer. But my words are stumbling, smooshed, and not coming out of my mouth right thanks to my severely depleted blood-sugar level and the fact that my body’s in survival mode.

Then out of the window pops Darcy May’s head. I know that kid. He’s Charlee’s little bro.

Just my luck. That her mom was the only one to die at Mason’s. I’ve been wanting to kiss this girl since before I got my first tattoo, or my eyebrow ring. Before seeing her at the opposite end of the occasional party. All things considered, a rich, beautiful, kind-looking girl like Charlee would never bring home a guy like me. I’ve never spoken to her the way I want to. Why take the risk of getting rejected by the only girl I’ve ever really wanted? And even if she did want me, would she see me or me as the person as what I’ve done to her parents?

I know Charlee’s read the papers; she couldn’t have missed it.

Dexter Hollingworth was on shift as a lift operator when the overhead wires snapped on one of the lifts at Mason’s Ski Resort. No charges have been laid.

Charlee’s Audi hatchback stops beside me. Darcy pops his head back in and chucks a thumb at me then turns to whisper something to Charlee.

I take these rare moments when I still see her around to imagine her letting her blonde hair down and shaking it out across her face. About getting a hand into that hair and holding her to my chest with the other. I want to know what she smells like.

It’s as close as I deserve to get.

I could so fall in love with him. I could fall in love with him in a heartbeat. He brings his other hand to my waist, and pulls me in close. He’s seated on the bar stool, and I’m standing as I slide into the V between his legs, his firm thighs now on either side of me. The distance between us narrows, and the temperature rises. Like this, with him so close, I can tell how much he wants me. As much as I want him. I am turned on beyond belief, my skin is so hot, and my body is aching all over with the need to be touched, and he knows it. And just like that, the mood between us here at Circa Rose shifts. After falling for Oscar Maree in Hale Maree, I wondered how Misty was going to write Landon. Oscar is a beautiful , phwoaaaarrr!! smexi lad whose persistence won Hale over, not to mention his...........

Misty wrote a most gorgeous voice in Landon. The lad is this mix of humour, thinks outside the box, not afraid to accept responsibility.... and can he make your toes curl.

I uber uber uber loved this book!

I laughed so much. Misty has this magnificent witty talent. I connected with Landon in Hale Maree, I knew I wanted to read his book and I knew I wanted him to hook up with Sher.

Sher is this loveable, total giggle pot. She has a most unique voice for a character. I loved hearing Landon’s inner monologue about Sher and her giggling.

I loved her giggling.

I could hear her giggles.... especially the chainsaw ones.

LOL!

“We’re going hobbit hunting,” Sher giggles, but it doesn’t derail Saul in the least.

How’ve you been?” I inquire lightly annnd...she giggles. Damn. It’s like a bucket of ice in my shorts.

I just came off of a quickie relationship with Amy-the-Psychopath, and now I’ve landed the Giggler, who might actually end up going Jack the Ripper on me.

A serious topic is the basis for Misty’s story about Landon and Sher and she handles it brilliantly.

I have not laughed so much one minute and then had my toes curl the next in a book.

I tug her earlobe into my mouth, or maybe it’s her lip... I don’t have a clue. It’s just soft and warm and makes me think of nipples.

“That’s fine,” I tell her. “But if you happen to be the one that gets thirsty first, I just want you to know, I’m not stingy with my milk at all.”

She reaches across me, brushing over my crotch, and the alarm in my jean-submarine instantly flashes: Semen! All hands on deck!

OMG!

I have some favourite scenes.

Misty put the sizzle in Landon and Sher.

Misty really does have writing talent. She drew me in from the first page. I connected with Landon, and his inner monologue is brilliant fun and how he sees Sher and how he wants to give her what she thinks she will miss. He really is a stand up guy. He is honest with himself and with Sher with regards to the situation and that is all you can do.

I really love a guy like Landon. There is just something special about the way they see life and what it throws at them and how they handle it. He has such a talent for being creative in his endeavors to try to stop Sher making a big mistake in his eyes.

I loved how much he cares.

Give Sher a reason, give her a life. The things she wants to do though - horse riding, pole dancing, tattoos, sex with strangers - I’m not sure how okay I am with letting her have four whole episodes of ‘Sherr Gone Wild’. I’m sure as hell not going out to recruit a dude to do her on the beach.

A very clever story that even had me getting a bit teary.

Landon knows how to bring romance to the picnic ... his style of picnic. To have a guy in your life like Landon who truly puts the thinking cap on to make a girl feel special is something to see.

“You can stop trying to be my hero,” she says. “I don’t need one.”

“But I do,” I tell her, “and this was the address they gave me.”

Horses, pole dancing, tattoos, stranger sex on the beach. I try to keep my lip from hanging open.

“Okay,” I rub my hands together slowly. “I really didn’t see three of those things coming.”

The sub characters are very entertaining. I loved Sher's interesting family. Her mother Lisa, is quite a character that you can't help but like and her oompa loompa sized brothers and sisters are like rugrats on Red Bull.

Sher showed her ability to be a great mother and role model when the rugrats joined in the story.

I loved having Oscar pop up with Hale. They are such great characters and I just loved hearing Oscar’s voice again.

I can see why Oscar and Landon are such good friends. They both won’t let the girl in their life run away without a fight. They love hard.

I totally dig that you don't have to read Hale Maree first to read Landon and Sher's story, but I highly recommend that you read Hale Maree first , so you can meet Oscar and get your glimpse of Landon. He will make you want to read more.

This was a story that the doctor ordered. I needed a book to have something different in a contemporary.

This is a funny, witty, heart warming read with some theft and major giggle fits. Landon will show you why he can fall for a chainsaw giggler and you will be rooting for him to win Sher over.

Misty: My son said, DARK SIDE by Kelly Clarkson, because he said I always tell him to try to understand people. My daughter said TRY, by Pink, because it sounds like what I always tell her. So, I guess my kids think of me in reference to what I’m always preaching at them.

Michelle: Have you got a book boyfriend, * whispers* you can tell me I won’t tell anyone. He can’t be from one of your own books. What do you love about him?

Misty: My very first book boyfriend was Michael, from Judy Blume’s Forever. I’ve come a long way, baby.

Misty: My new one is Marissa Meyer. I picked up CINDER a while back and her writing absolutely totalled me. That girl is ah-maze-ing.

Misty: I am off-the-tracks excited about going to UtopYA. I never expected to attend a conference so far from home, let alone be invited as a panelist. I’m beyond blown away by that!

I CAN NOT WAIT to meet the other authors I’ve befriended on line. It seems right since I’ve already taken so many of them to bed with me. Har har. And holy moley- the bloggers- I want to meet every single one of them and hug them til they turn blue. The bloggers are the reason people ever gave my books a chance and I owe them wicked big hugs!

I’m not really preparing for the panels- most are things I can speak to because I am a new kid, I do make music my book bitch and dang, I’ve learned how to handle the good (easy peasy) and the bad (boo hiss). My tactic is to go and just tell people what I’ve learned and hope they love me. J

Michelle: Is there any authors attending where you can feel some fan girling coming on, where you might get yourself an autograph.

Misty: Ella James. I’m gonna stalk her til she signs my forehead.

Michelle: Have you been to Nashville before? Have you got any touring plans whilst there?

Misty: I haven’t been to Nashville before, so I am very excited to be going! The one place I’d like to visit is Cooter’s Place because my son is obsessed with cars and would love some pics of the Dukes of Hazard memorabilia.

“Okay,” I rub my hands together slowly. “I really didn’t see three of those things coming.”

Michelle: What is an average day for Misty Provencher, from waking up to going to bed?

Misty: Hmmm, it varies, but a writing day looks like this: I get up around 5:30-6 am and check my email before packing everyone their lunches. (I know, wicked glamorous, right? Gotta keep the paparazzi from snagging pics of that, huh?) When everyone clears out, I usually make my phone calls or walk the dogs. By 9-10, I’m in front of my computer, writing. That goes on until around noon. I grab a bite, usually in front of the computer, and check in on the social media. I clean the house during breaks. I go strong until about 3, when the kids start filtering in from school. I’m all theirs until after dinner, when everyone scatters. Then, I might sit and write some more until I fall into bed to read for an hour before bed.

Michelle: What was the last book from any genre, that had you thinking it was the shiz, it rocked your kazbah?

Misty: I read Marissa Meyer’s Cinder and just about cried from how beautifully she writes. She is a master wordsmith.

Michelle: Have you ever people watched and found the makings of one of your characters, if so who?

Misty: I am a people-watcher-aholic. Iris, from Cornerstone, was very loosely modeled after the memory I had of a little girl I used to care for. She was a complete spitfire and I loved her dearly and I tried to capture her ‘spirit’ in Iris.

Michelle: If you could have dinner party with 4 people and shoot the breeze, alive or dead or fictional , it doesn’t matter. Who would they be and why?

Misty: Only four? I want to meet so many!

John Steinbeck, because he was wicked-funny and would love to talk craft. I eat that stuff with a spoon.

Beth Chapman (Dog the Bounty Hunter’s wife), because I adore so many facets of her spirit.

Cesar Milan (the Dog Whisperer) because I want to feel what his energy is like. Sound cooky? I also have a few questions about Larry that I’m positive he could clear up.

Jodi Reamer, because I still think she’s the shit when it comes to critique. An Interview here with Jodi

Michelle: If you could choose any ice cream flavour or a chocolate flavour, what flavour would best describe where your life is now? I’m drawing on Forrest Gump here J

Misty: Imagine Whirled Peace (Ben & Jerry’s). I had a long period of crazy stress and now my world has begun to settle, heal, and really get moving again. My whole world is moving toward peace- gotta love that!

Michelle: Just throwing this one out there, have you any projects in the works you can tell me about * whispers * I won’t tell anyone J J J

Misty: Haha- yes- I’m working on CAPSTONE right now (the last in the Cornerstone Series). I have several in the works that need to be completed/revised, but this summer, I’ll be going easy, as I want to enjoy my kids while they’re home. I hope to have CAPSTONE out by this fall.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I am in love with this series. Patricia always brings the picnic to the park with her characters and storyline. River Marked #6, is the only book in this series that did not capture me as much, I was still caught, but not as much as all the other books.

I have 2 top fave female chicks who kick ass in my opinion, Mercedes Thompson & Chess, ( Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane) are the bomb.

Seriously if you have not started this series, you are really missing out on some excellent Urban Fantasy and humor.

Mercy is left a bit battered after a fender bender whilst doing some Black Friday shopping with Jesse. I did laugh at Mercy’s lack of enthusiasm for the girlie shopping expedition. But she took one for the team and spent time with her step daughter, doing girlie things.

....Meanwhile all the lads are in a bit of a pickle getting a bit of a silver smack down with an anonymous villain pulling his minions strings. Money will do that. Wave the money and lethal trained dudes with badass weapons will come to the party and do just about anything you ask.

A story unfolds of corruption and betrayal with Mercy smack in the middle, with power being the ultimate reward.

I throw an evil laugh in here..... mwah ha ha ha haaaaa.

I loved , loved loved having some Adam POV.

Cause, I love , love, love Adam.

But! There is more.

We get to spend some time in the limelight with the unassuming Kyle, Warren’s mate. I think Kyle is quite a hoot.

I handed Kyle a sweatshirt. He shook his head, and said , “That’s the wrong top for these.”
“Fashion princess.” I rolled my eyes and gave him the other top, noticing only as it unfolded that it proclaimed, “I’m prettier than your girlfriend,” in purple glittery script. I recognized it because I’d given it to him for his birthday.

I love Stefan. Sadly he has traded in his trademark Scooby Doo attire and infamous Mystery Machine.

As if by giving up his Scooby-Doo shirts and his beloved Mystery Machine, Stefan had given up his last firm anchor to his humanity. Still, the Mystery Machine, Stefan’s old VW bus with the cool paint job, remained parked in his driveway, so I had hope.

Me too, Mercy. I hold out hope the Mystery Machine gets used as the getaway van again sometime and a t-shirt gets donned for old times sake.

There is something always amusing , well mainly , about Stefan and his side kick ways with Mercy.

“Throw me up,” I told him, and turned back into a coyote.

I looked at Stefan, and when he met my eyes, I jerked my chin to the balcony that came off the bedroom. He frowned at me doubtfully. I rose up on my hind legs and bounced once. Then lifted my muzzle toward the balcony again.

His eyebrows rose, but he picked me up and threw me.

Mercy just has HUGE balls to take Marsilia’s vamp mobile and then have all and sundry mess it up. Mercy is always thinking about helping , rather than the consequences of her immediate actions that can turn against her later.

“Holy Hummer, Batgirl, where did you get a Mercedes AMG?”

Adam and Mercy prove to us how much of an awesome bonded couple they are. Nothing can keep them apart, or stop them from connecting with some awesome mind mojo.

Ben is just a fearsome protective lad. I love him hanging about in this book and all the growling and fierce attitude.

Ben rubbed his muzzle over Kyle’s shoulder in a way that I think was supposed to be reassuring. Kyle sucked in a breath. Either it hurt, or a reminder that the werewolf was big enough to rub his shoulder without much effort wasn’t exactly reassuring.

“Ben, when was the last time you brushed your teeth?” asked Kyle.

Or else Ben’s breath was really bad.

This is a nonstop rollercoaster ride from some harmless shopping to an orchestrated pack smack down to some surprising turn of events. The shiz is trying to be worked against Adam’s pack and Zee will always find a way to bend the rules the Fae put on him, if Mercy is calling for help.

I totally dig Tad. He is a solid guy and funny.

“Adam’s daughter, the one we were trying to keep safe from the bad guys,” said Tad, moving behind the officer so he could see his notes. “She spells it J-E-S-S-E. And I’m Tad - like ‘tadpole’- short for Thaddeus, but don’t go there, and my last name is Adelbertsmiter.” he spelled that for him, too. Twice.

“So you let him in?”

“Do I look like I’m five?” asked Tad indignantly. “No, I asked who it was and he said he was UPS and had a package for us. I told him to leave it on the porch ‘cause I was naked, just out of the shower.”

“I thought you were eating brownies,” said the officer, who seemed to have resigned himself to having Tad hanging over his shoulder.

“I was.” Tad shook his head. “I lied to the guy....”

We have some new characters coming into play. Asil, I like him, somebody new for us to play with. J

“I thought.” Armstrong swallowed. “I thought that he was just a big dog. I like dogs.”

I looked at Asil, then back at Armstrong. “You do know that Asil is a werewolf, too?”

The fed rubbed his face. “ I’m too old for this. I’ve been up for twenty-four hours.” Hehe, Armstrong pulled a Murtaugh, ( Lethal Weapon)

It goes without saying that I highly recommend this Urban Fantasy series. Mercedes really knows how to pull her weight in the kicking it with the lads department. Adan is just divine and Patricia will always make sure we hear from a good selection of her characters each book. I missed me some Daryl in this book. But that is ok, having Kyle steal some of the limelight was very entertaining and fun.

Check this series out if you have not already.

Night Broken is next up to bat, sometime in 2014.

‘Babe, nice lingerie is for seducing a man. I’m already fucking seduced.’

Jocelyn has a closet full of grief and pain. She is a closed book, a boarded up and nailed tight window. Nobody, especially Braden is going to get to look in and see what is behind all that hurt.

‘But I think mostly it’s your eyes. I want something from them no one else gets.’

‘And what’s that?’ I asked, my voice low, almost hoarse. His words had affected me as deeply as any aphrodisiac.

Rhian, her friend has her own issues and they get along fine, no questions asked, equals no answers having to be given.

A friendship that Joss can handle.

Braden asks questions, he wants answers.

Sweet Ellie meddles a time or two because she can see what Joss can't.

This was a really emotional read and an off the hook smexi read. Samantha also had me laughing out loud in a couple scenes.

‘Yes,’ Braden answered, obviously not caring that he’d been overheard. I’ll have the steak, medium rare.’

He smiled softly at me. ‘What are you having?’ He took a swig of water.

He thought he was so cool and funny. ‘Apparently sausage.’

Braden choked on his water, coughing into his fist, his eyes bright with mirth as he put his glass back on the table.

One scene I got the giggles in bed and hubs is reading his book and he was wanting to know what I was laughing at, so I said two words. ‘Whale fart.’ J

I can’t imagine anybody not falling for Braden. He is an Alpha with a capital ‘A’. He finds someone in Jocelyn that I think he never knew existed. She wasn’t his ‘type’....until he realized , maybe she was.

Complicated, closed down emotionally and beautiful.

‘Because’- he sighed - ‘you make me laugh, you challenge me, and you turn me on like no one else can. I feel like I’m missing something really important when you’re gone. So important I don’t feel like myself. I’ve never felt like someone was mine before. But you’re mine, Jocelyn. I’ve known that from the moment we met. And I’m yours. I don’t want to be anybody else’s, babe.’

I really connected with Joss and Braden and what made them tick. Ellie will capture your heart and squeeze it tight.

Joss is a work in progress, taking it day by day, learning to love and live again.

Life can be full of sadness and grief can be consuming, but, to shine through all the loss and let memories be acknowledged , instead of locked away is a healthier existence. You can’t change the past, but you can lighten the load for yourself.

Those eye's......it's me - I know it - he's looking at me!! LOL. I love the Denazen series covers :)

So book 3, TREMBLE, continues after Kale has been taken back to Denazen......but how could this be? He's forgotten who Dez is and worst of all - he HATES her :( What has Marshall Cross done to him now?

TREMBLE gives us Dez - still as fiery,brash, opinionated and at times unpredictable as ever. Dez needs to locate Kale and save him from the evil clutches of her father and Denazen. And the evil claws of her sister Kiernan - whom my hatred for clings to like lunch wrap!

Whilst trying to save Kale, Dez and Alex are on the hunt to also save as many Sixes subject to the Supremacy trials as possible - Denazen's orders to terminate have been given and Kale will follow through if required. Problem is....Dez is on that Supremacy list and the closer she gets to her 18th birthday, the decline in her health and other faculties becomes another issue she must deal with. She just needs to stay around long enough for the Domination trial to be used on her to guarantee her survival.

With action, emotions, twists and turns, Jus Accardo delivers another installment in the Denazen series that kept me enthralled and definitely wanting book 4. Thank goodness it's a 5 book series - I'm just not reading to say goodbye to some fantastic characters! Jus has continual growth in each character and the introduction of interesting characters throughout the story helps to keep the entertaining level high.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

ACES - Ammunition, Contraband, Explosive Suppression Team

This was a great start to the Smokin’ Aces series. Timothy Santos, who I think sounds smexier dropping the Timothy and renaming him Santos .... and that’s it. Bit like Rambo. No need for a first name. Santos is a very smexi undercover , deep undercover agent working the drug cartel on the border of Mexico in Rio County.

Oh, and he rides a Harley.

I have never been across the border to Mexico or to West Texas but it sure felt like I knew the landscape the way Kay describes it.

I loved how Kay has thought up using these agents as a biker gang, the Smokin’ Aces renegade biker gang, to infiltrate the world of El Brujo, a brutal cartel leader and try to stop the West Texas violence.

Crikey, an enormous and dangerous assignment that won’t happen overnight.

This is a gritty and deadly page turner with gruesome killings.

When you are in so deep that the lines are blurring between your undercover character and the person you really are, you are treading on dangerous ground, both mentally and physically.

His unshaven jaw tightened. “I’m talking about me. When I get on that bike, I’m someone else and that someone I have to be isn’t a man you’ll like.”

There are no second chances when your cover is blown in this world.

You will die.

He and his undercover team had come to Rio County to stop the violence that had taken control of west Texas--and he was there to make that happen, no matter what it took, including cutting some corners that might have made other officers uneasy. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d broken one law to keep another one, and it wouldn’t be the last.

Sheriff Rose Renwick is an old flame of Santos’. They find themselves working together to bring down the villains of this story.

But who really are the villains?

Rose is a tough Sheriff , who at times appeared a little naive to her safety. Drug lords don't forget easily those that stand in their way.

Kay is quite clever with her plot. Now, I did figure something out early on but got blind sided by something else. I like being blind sided J

Jesse Delacourt is the only female team member a former medic.

Joachim Guillermo , the sniper, Austin Wills and Raymond Bentley make up the rest of the undercover team.

Kingston aka King Landry, the Chief Deputy, doesn’t get a big part and I wasn’t too sure about him , until I read the excerpt at the end of this book , for ‘Follow The Cowboy’. Then I was thinking, ok , Kingston I might just want to have a read about you. J

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

This was a great novella sized read. I really liked Navy SEAL Landon “Blackhawk” Walker. I connected very quickly with his character.

Landon is on leave in Cabo, Mexico and he has his eyes on the one lady that sets his heart ablaze, Maya Gonzalez. Maya is a sweet character who has let her heart fill with pain every time Landon ships back out on a mission.

She needs to think of herself, but every time Landon comes back into her life, she is powerless to move on.

She wants Landon, but can her heart take anymore of not hearing from him for a year, due to the nature of his job?

This was a nice quick read, nothing dangerous happens except for Landon's reaction to a college boy getting all mouthy. It is a short story about two people who need each other and some pretty nice dates.

I really could have read more.

I thought a couple scenes bled together where I was in one scene and then I was in another. I did a bit of a double take, but it was how it was written. I thought they need to be attended to, but other than that I really liked this short story.

I certainly would have loved the story to have been a full length novel as the characters are very likable. I would have liked some action and for Landon to show us his capabilities outside the bedroom. Although I am not complaining J

I look forward to reading more in this series and maybe full length sized reads. It is very hard to capture a romance in a small read, but Carly got me hooked.

I wanted more J

Michelle: What 5 words describe Bec McMaster the author?

BM: Hmm, I'll go with: creative, introverted, driven, optimistic, book-nerd.

Michelle: I have a steampunk addiction. I am glad to see more and more steampunk stories being written. Do you have a genre addiction, or a particular author addiction?

BM: I'm so excited to see so many steampunk romances coming out in particular. It means I get to feed my own addiction and obviously I love anything weird and steampunky, but outside that genre it would be Urban Fantasy. The darker and grittier, the better. Hence my author addiction would be Stacia Kane.

OO Yes! I love Stacia Kane too. She writes Chess, one of my fave female leads so well.

Michelle: I like to ask musical questions when I interview as it is different and sometimes challenging, or not, for the author, but I think the author’s response with the song they choose adds that bit more to a character. I like to put the YouTube lyrical clips up in the interview. Readers seem to like them. I find it interesting hearing what songs authors choose. BM:

Blade: alpha, charmer, reckless, devilish, loyal.

Honoria: stubborn, proud, loyal, strong, clever.

Will: surly, protective, withdrawn, sexy, lone-wolf.

Lena: flirtatious, romantic, naive, optimist, crusader.

Jasper: dutiful, strict, clever, patient, honest.

Michelle: Can you share a short excerpt from one of your favorite scenes in Heart of Iron?

BM: My favourite scene is a little too spoiler-ish, but I'll give you a quote from it instead. This is my hero, Will:

“I will give you the world,” he whispered, stroking the hair off her forehead. “I will protect you, I swear. I’ll never let you hurt again, I promise. Just come back, Lena. Come back and let me love you.”

I love this quote. I have it noted for my review as one of my faves when I was reading Heart of Iron.

Michelle: Are there any other projects you are working on you could discuss? Will you always write in steampunk genre or is there another genre that interests you?

BM: Steampunk is one of my great loves, however I like anything of a spec-fic nature: dystopian, paranormal, fantasy, post-apoc, sci-fi etc. I tend not to define myself so much by genre - for me, the world is what's important and when it comes to me, it's often a mash-up of several different 'sub-genres'. The one thing I can guarantee? The romance.

As for things I'm working on... I have about six pieces in serious stages of progress, but we'll see how they go. I don't have a lot of time at the moment to write anything else, or even, you know, sleep. (:

Michelle: I can see from the blurbs in this series that you are giving each of your guys a story and a woman. What will be the common theme that will link the books together, for those readers that haven’t started this series?

BM: Wow, I can't give too much away! The main arc is that we're building toward a confrontation, and that is all I will say on that. As for common themes in each book: family, finding your place in the world, and trust. They're my big three that seem to crop up in each book.

Michelle: You write such rich story line and awesome characters! How much research did you need to do to get yourself off and running in the steampunk world.

BM: Thank you. I don't sit down and research before I start writing. I'll be honest, the main plot is my focus, and I research and add things in as I go along. The world just seems to pop up in my head, so I'm discovering it as much as my reader. That being said, with steampunk, I definitely need to know where history diverged in my series, as well as thinking of the possible ramifications of that. And of course, the gadgets. I love exploring what people have discovered over the years. It always amazes me what minds came up with centuries ago, but never seemed to get around to building - or didn't have the tech at the time to create it. So, for me steampunk is saying that those ideas were possible. In my world, they created it.

Michelle: If you could invite 4 people/characters over for dinner, alive or fictional or dead, who would they be and why?

BM: I love this question. Let's see:

1. Meljean Brook, because I love her work.

2. Tom Hardy for the eye candy.

3. Wolverine.

4. Francis Crawford from the Dorothy Dunnett Lymond Chronicles.

Michelle: The cover art for your series is just stunning. You must be very proud of the designer. Do you have poster sized images around your home framed, or do you do something else to capture your books at home, besides a copy sitting on a shelf?

BM: My mother-in-law framed Kiss of Steel for me for Christmas (I have the coolest M-I-L) but I'll admit I need to get my game on and create a wall somewhere.

Michelle: Some authors get movie deals, TV series deals, get to meet somebody famous, what opportunities have opened up for you since becoming published, that you never dreamt were possible.

BM: I'm going to the Romance Writers of American National Conference this year, which I am beside myself for. For me, it's the idea of meeting so many of my favourite authors that thrills me. The main opportunity I'm looking at, however, is going full-time with my writing after I get back from America. It doesn't quite cover my wages yet, but I have the best boyfriend - he was the one who told me to do it. I'm giving myself two years to cover my wage, so fingers crossed I can keep doing what I love full-time.

Michelle: What has been a most memorable book signing you have been to and why, or meeting of another author you admired?

BM: I'd have to say my own book launch for Kiss of Steel. I've only ever been to one other book signing (Nalini Singh signed my book, yay!), but when KOS launched, heaps of local people showed up. There was 130 of us packed into the library, which was both amazing and terrifying, considering I like public speaking about as much as sticking my head in a tub full of eels.

Michelle: If you could choose a chocolate or ice cream flavour that suited your life where you are now, what would it be?

BM: Maybe bubblegum? Full of surprises, but lots of fun.

This is a really cool snippet. Take a listen. I really like the narrators voice. I could quite easily listen to this audio book. I was remembering the passage as she was narrating it.

Katie McGarry does it again!

After reading the first few chapters of PUSHING THE LIMITS, I knew Katie McGarry was thrusting us into a series of NOT TO MISS books. Focusing on the damaged and flawed instead of the perfect and popular - McGarry gives us a set of characters that, individually, have amazing strengths and so many layers that each well deserves their own book. And DARE YOU TO is Beth's story.......

DARE YOU TO captures the reader's mind and heart, gives it a hard shake and pours out a cocktail of emotions you only had reserved for watching The Notebook!

Beth Risk is a broken soul in need of mending. She's had it pretty bad and as a result deals with life by not "feeling" - turning her heart and mind to stone when required makes moments pass without too much emotional damage. She's a rough cut diamond that Ryan is determined to dig up and polish - and make his own.

DARE YOU TO continues along the raw, gritty and emotional line that McGarry gave us in the first book PUSHING THE LIMITS. Outcomes can sometimes never turn out as you pre-empted - and this is one of those instances. But with that, McGarry gives us the desire and need to impatiently wait for CRASHING INTO YOU - Isaiah's story and book 3 in this series.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I love this series, it is one of my fave adult steampunks. Bec really knows how to write a tale rich in description and storyline.

This is Rip and Esme’s novella. It felt like a full length book.

I see Bec’s world very clearly and it is a dark and dangerous world on her streets. I can almost smell and touch all the filth and blood from her scenes. I feel like I have stepped back into the 1800’s with the accents and harshness of life for many of the people. Death for some is just around the corner.

The Slasher Gang are like a bunch of Jack The Rippers out to do horrid things to people. They really play the part well.

Higgin’s smile died. “You’ll know me fuckin’ name by the end o’ this. I’ll carve it in your bloody forehead.”

Blade showed up * does happy dance*

“All this,” Blade called, “just to get me attention? Should ‘ave just left your callin’ card. I mighta gotten round to you. in the end.”

I loved seeing him and watching his meddling in affairs that are not his own, but they are part of his new family. Sometimes a guy just has to give a helpful nudge in the right direction.

Rip , unfortunately has no idea about Esme’s feelings . He has his own fears after only being a Blue Blood for six months and he wants to stay in control. He is battling to stay in control.

When he gets to unleash the smexi, OMG! John knows how to bring it! He can be so brave and fearsome, then, sweet and naive and the next minute so virile.

A roughened thumb traced the tear’s path. “Fuckin’ hell,” he said in a breathless, bewildered tone. “Christ, luv. Don’t cry. Please don’t cry. I ain’t worth that.”

I really like Rip aka John. He is a gentle guy underneath all that man mountain and a thoughtful guy. He has an image that shows others to fear him, but Esme knows the real John.

Loved the ending to this novella and the possibility of.........

That would be spoiling!

Haley’s pov

The door opens and a draft of cooler air rushes through as another flood of customers enter. I sigh, grab some menus and greet them with a smile.

Then I see him. My hearts hammers and I force air in and out of my chest. Time stops, like we said our goodbyes just a few days ago when really it’s been almost a year. He looks the same but different. Shadows haunt his face and the bright part of his blue eyes that used to light up my heart seem faded, like they need a good polish.

He steps closer. My heart hurts and a lump forms in my throat. Emotions I’ve locked away push at the edges.

“Hi, Hales.”

Two simple words and I almost come undone. I seem to have lost my ability to speak and move as I stand there taking him in. His black hair hangs a little over his ears and his eyes draw me in just like before. But there are little changes too. His face is pale. Tattoos swirl around the top of his arm. Truth invades and real life comes crashing in. My knees shake, and I sway a bit.

“Are you okay?” He holds out a hand to steady me.

I jerk away like I touched a live socket. I can’t go back. The memories are too strong. Sometimes no matter how much you love someone, the past is stronger, and mistakes make love impossible.

A girl with blonde hair flounces in with a bright sparkle to her eyes. She hooks her arm through Seth’s and gives me a suspicious look. “Who’s this?” she asks.

“An old friend,” Seth says without taking his eyes off me. I see forever in his eyes and it squeezes my chest.

I tear my gaze away from him and study her. Adoration simmers off of her. She loves him or is close to it. Jealousy floods my heart. The happy times they probably spent together in the past year, the smiles, the touches, the laughter. The kisses, gentle and sweet, that used to be mine. I want to grab a butter knife and cut the smile off her face.

Misty: I haven’t been to Nashville before, so I am very excited to be going! The one place I’d like to visit is Cooter’s Place because my son is obsessed with cars and would love some pics of the Dukes of Hazard memorabilia.

Michelle: What was the last book from any genre, that had you thinking it was the shiz, it rocked your kazbah?

Misty: I read Marissa Meyer’s Cinder and just about cried from how beautifully she writes. She is a master wordsmith.

Michelle: Have you ever people watched and found the makings of one of your characters, if so who?

Misty: I am a people-watcher-aholic. Iris, from Cornerstone, was very loosely modeled after the memory I had of a little girl I used to care for. She was a complete spitfire and I loved her dearly and I tried to capture her ‘spirit’ in Iris.

Michelle: If you could have dinner party with 4 people and shoot the breeze, alive or dead or fictional , it doesn’t matter. Who would they be and why?

Misty: Only four? I want to meet so many!

Michelle: If you could choose any ice cream flavour or a chocolate flavour, what flavour would best describe where your life is now? I’m drawing on Forrest Gump here J
