Birth: it's a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life.

But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal. Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?

The First Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm the Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff hosts free screenings of socially relevant films followed by a (usually intense) discussion of actions we can take.

An Adult Religious Education Election Year Special Forum Series:
THE WAR ON WOMEN

May 9 – Kelly Hart, Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood will lead a discussion of the political component of the War on Women.
May 16 – Dr. Joan Jenkins, Professor of History, Collin College will explore the history of the War on Women and the role played by religion.
May 23 – “Miss Representation” an acclaimed documentary film will bring home vividly the influence of popular media.
May 30 – Dr. Kim Knight, Assistant Professor of Emerging Media and Communication, UT Dallas will deal with cultural issues and the impact of social media.

Each session begins at 7 pm
