VIDEO: A wildfire that started on little more than 20 acres in Citronelle Saturday has been contained after burning more than 1,700 acres. Alabama State Forestry has been busy fighting wildfires this week. Just over the weekend, more than 50 were reported across Alabama. The Citronelle Fire burned across forests and swamps, affecting multiple property owners.

State Forestry crews from the Southwest Division worked around the clock to contain the forest fire that spread quickly. In this case, it wasn’t just the terrain and dry conditions that caused a problem. In the beginning stages, a property owner also slowed their progress, according to Baldwin County Forester Andy Reier.

“Property damage or many things that they could be upset about, but at the end of the day we’re here to suppress the fire and protect houses,” Reier said. “There were 20 houses threatened during this fire. No structures were lost.”

Reier said those houses were on the far south end of the fire line across Bennett Creek. Local fire companies from Citronelle and surrounding areas kept fire from those structures while his crews went to work building firebreaks to contain it.

When forestry crews first arrive on scene, they locate the fire and find a place to put a break in. One side burns while the other side of the forest stays green.

VIDEO: Heartbreak continues to linger as community members mourn three lives lost in a wreck Saturday. Members of Moulton Fire and Rescue and the Police Department responded to the scene and are still processing what they experienced.

“31 years as an officer and I’m still not used to this,” said Moulton Police Chief Craig Knight. “You never get used to it.”

Knight and Moulton Fire Chief Brian Phillips were on scene when 33-year-old Ashley Hagood and her children, 13-year-old Bryant Ballew and seven-year-old Bryleigh Pledger, died in a wreck.

“They’re young, you know, they had so much to live for, and it makes it even harder when you have kids of your own,” said Phillips. “You think of your own kids when you’re sitting there working.”

Moulton Mayor Ryan Jolly said it’s been a tough week for Moulton’s first responders, and they’re leaning on each other for support.

“Naturally, we as human beings, we’re ‘fixers,’” he said. “We want to make sure, you know, we help people. We want to fix things, and not to be able to do that, it kind of can be troublesome or, you know, it can weigh on you heavily.”

Knight and Phillips have worked alongside each other for nearly 30 years, but say that experience doesn’t always prepare you for what you see on the job.

VIDEO: A fire late Sunday night heavily damaged the Courtyard Oyster Bar and Grill in Lincoln, a longtime gathering spot known for live music, busy race-weekend crowds and a strong sense of community.

Employees said they were away from the business when they started receiving messages that the Courtyard was on fire. Jacob Hudson, a nighttime manager, said he and coworkers first thought the reports might be a mistake.

“At first we’re like maybe it’s just a small fire, maybe just smoke damage,” Hudson said. “But when we got here, the whole building was engulfed. You could see flames for miles away.”

Hudson said the group rushed to the scene after seeing a photo in a group chat. He said the emotional impact was immediate.

VIDEO: The Alabama Fire College graduated 27 firefighters from its Spring Firefighter and Recruit School. The spring class of 2026 completed 10 weeks of coursework that tested their limits. More recruits started the program than finished.

“You know we practice a lot with trying to do practical skills. Putting ourselves through high pressure situations and how we can properly handle those,” said Clay Dykes, a graduate with the Fayette Fire Department.

Supporters attended the graduation ceremony as graduates received their certificates and had badges pinned to their shirts by friends or family members.

“Staying busy. You’re going to be tired. You’re going to be working all the time. You’ll barely be at the station. You might not get to eat. It helps us to stay focused and just do the little things right,” said Ryan Respinto, a graduate with the Center Point Fire District.

Ben Stewart, Chief of Oxford Fire Department, served as keynote speaker. He told the graduates to “Go out and make an impact in your community and welcome to the brotherhood.”

VIDEO: Multiple agencies responded to a woods fire in McIntosh on Sunday afternoon as flames burned for hours in a wooded area. Hot spots remain, and several areas are completely burnt following the blaze on Rob Drive.

The McIntosh Volunteer Fire Department posted video of the fire on its Facebook page as they and other departments battled the intense flames burning in the wooded area.

William Lane, a McIntosh resident, saw the fire and rushed with another neighbor to protect nearby property.

“Me and my neighbor across the street we grabbed our hoses, ran down, and wet his shed down to make sure that nothing happened to his little place over there,” Lane said.

Officials say the fire was so deep into the woods that the Alabama Forestry Commission was called out. While fire crews worked to put the blaze out, neighbors did what they could to help as well.

VIDEO: A fire ripped through the Searcy Hospital grounds Friday night, damaging parts of a historic landmark. The more than 100-year-old complex went up in flames, and officials say crews fought the fire for hours before they put it out. Fire officials say crews arrived Friday night to find a three-story building, known as the Tower Arsenal, on fire.

About 20 fire departments, 40 fire apparatus and 80 firefighters were on scene to make sure every hot spot was put out, officials said.

For nearly six hours, crews battled the fire, working to save history and protect the surrounding area.

Firefighters say because the grounds had been vacated, there were no operational hydrants available on the property.

The historic site is a state-owned psychiatric hospital built on grounds that were once used as a military arsenal in the 1800s.

VIDEO: Muscle Shoals will be getting a new fire training building after the city council approved the construction. Originally, they’ve had to train at hand-built stations at their center. This new building will combine five separate training tools into one. Fire Chief Hyde says the reason they train is to keep the public and their own firefighters safe. In fact, they haven’t had a fire-related injury for nearly 20 years.
