Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is a FREE citizen preparedness course that includes academic and hands-on instruction, as well as a disaster training exercise. It is designed to prepare you to help yourself, family and neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Emergency personnel may not be able to help everyone immediately so you can make a difference by using CERT training to save lives and protect property.

Classes start May 1 and run nine consecutive Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:30 p.m. culminating with a disaster simulation on June 26 at Wrights Corners Fire Co.

Through personal education, training and volunteer service, every individual can help make communities safer, stronger and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues and disasters of all kinds. CERT, developed for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is one of the primary programs offered to the American public to meet this challenge. Participants must be at least 16 years of age, attend all nine (9) class sessions, and register as a Border Community SERVICE Volunteer. Best of all, CERT training is fun and FREE!

Unfortunately international has unique complexities which create special rules, regulations and requirements. This course will focus on how a company can cope with import & export.

The class will get an understanding of how the national strategy on import shipments has shifted from collection of duties to protection of Americans and what importers have to do to comply with the latest customs directives. On exports we will outline Harmonized Tariffs and how they are used.

There will also be a focus on international logistics and differences between modes of transport in cost, convenience and liability. The course is taught by Jack Ampuja who has been an executive with five Fortune 500 firms and holds citizenship in three countries.

Inventory Management and Wareshousing

The second largest cost element in supply chain logistics is inventory management. Managing inventories effectively is often overlooked in business because inventory carrying costs such as obsolescence, storage, and the opportunity cost of money are indirect costs. Furthermore, the ambiguity about who is responsible for inventory often frustrates good inventory management. This short course is designed to ensure that participants understand the cost impact of inventory management in the supply chain and provide an understanding of basic tools to better control inventory costs.

Understanding inventory’s role and costs in SCM.
Key inventory measures: turnover rate, cycle times, fill-rate, carrying cost, etc.
Managing the three basic questions of inventory management: When to order, how much to order, how much safety stock to hold?
Alternatives to Forecasting
Practical steps to improving inventory management.

Here comes Lily with her purple plastic purse! And Alexander, as usual is having a “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day…” and Pierre just doesn’t care! Yes, N.U.R.T. is back and better than ever. Our fast, furious, and fantastically funny children’s tales brought to life by trained actors will delight audiences of all ages.

Niagara University Theatre’s repertory troupe, N.U.R.T., will present a rotating repertoire of free children’s stories outdoors in the Village of Lewiston at Artpark, where it has not performed since the 1990s. N.U.R.T. will perform at Artpark on Sat. July 7, Sat. July 14, Sat. July 21 and Sat. July 28 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Reservations are not required.

The N.U.R.T. troupe will also perform every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from July 12 through August 23 in the air conditioned comfort of the Leary Theatre within the Elizabeth Ann Clune Center, Clet Hall, on the NU campus. Amanda Lytle Sharpe, adjunct theater professor and N.U.R.T. director said, “Our free children’s theater performances will include about 40 minutes of children’s stories in rotation.
