PokerStrategy

They are giving away bankrolls to any new player who qualifies as an intelligent and educated Poker player. You will be walked through a set of articles that document a strict strategy for winning constantly in the type of game you prefer (cash game, sit and go, multi-table tournament). Then a test that includes a batch of questions pertaining to the articles that were suggested for you to read.

Once a player has passed the small test he will gain access to different services and promotions..

Starting capital / bankroll

The most interesting benefit of PokerStrategy‘s membership is for most the starting capital they give new players (if I remember correctly it’s in the range of 50$ to 150$). They will even transfer the funds across all of the most popular online Poker rooms.

Even if some players are not excited by the size of the bankroll PokerStrategy offers, most are solely joining their community to benefit from this promotion. It’s without a doubt the cause behind the their success and constant growth of their user base.

Guides of Poker strategies

It is probably the most valuable asset of PokerStrategy. They are unique in their form, unmatched by their quantity. Functional, applicable they succeed at teaching clear methods used to beat the game of Poker. They have elaborated practical strategies that work. Kudos to the brains behind that.

Begginers will be able to understand and apply their methods in real-money games by starting at the beggining of their guides while more advanced players will easily be able to tell at which point they want to start reading based on their previous knowledge of the game so the audience concerned is wider than the usual Poker articles you will find elsewhere.

I can only recommend the reading of their strategy guides. On an other note, I was not impressed by their Poker articles even though the information they contain is accurate there was not enough new ideas brought by their authors to make me a fan.

Educational Poker videos

They provide a good quantify of educational Poker videos which are almost entirely recorded online Poker sessions with a narrator explaining you why he plays the way he does and why you should be aware of everything included in his Poker knowledge.

It’s always positive to watch, analyze and learn about other player’s reasoning and desicion making reasons. However most videos are produced by only a few authors who did not make me feel so much “in good hands”. I will let you judge by yourself… Maybe it’s just me!

Referral program

Unfortunately I’m in no position to review their referral program right now because I did not refer them any players so far. They advertise the possibility for earning up to 100$ for any user you refer them that plays Poker using their promotion

Has this information piqued your interest?

You’ve probably seen these offers surfing on Poker related blogs and they created a real buzz in the online Poker neighborhood. There is no official story on the site that launched the first “free Poker money” program but it grew to become a popular and lucrative way for entrepreneurs seeking a little more dough.

Even though you can count on your hands the amount of players operating in this field the programs of services and information they are making readily available to their members is really impressive. More oven most membership is offered to anyone for no fee.

Online Poker communities

There are very few respected online Poker communities who provide truly valuable content. Two of them and to name them: CardRunners and STOXPOKER had a great impact on online Poker and gained their place in online Poker training and education. You should join them and find out a way of accessing their premium content because it’s pretty damn good (really) – they are affiliated with Full Tilt and you can access their content for no cost as long as you do play online Poker seriously.

CardRunners and STOXPOKER are big players in online educational Poker communities but they cannot be compared with the providers of “free Poker money” offers; they are the leaders in online Poker education and fall in a different category.

Here’s a list of established free poker bankroll providers I have used and reviewed:

PokerStrategy

I will be writing new reviews and adding them to this list.

Check it out.

If you were the 6th best poker player in the world you would be pleased to play any table...
Until you sit at a table with the top 5 players.

Online, there are an abundance of sites that all have hundreads of cash-games, sit-n-gos and multi-table tournaments for any stake you will want to play. Most players are choosing their tables randomly but why pick the first table that has an empty seat?

You might be surprised to notice that a good game selection can easily double a player’s winnings. Sounds exaggerated? Find out for yourself! Most of the profits are made from fish and is easy to gain; Don’t sit at a table if it doesn’t look like an aquarium!

How can we find the best tables?

You can go with PokerTracker and Poker Ace Hud which has been developed for that purpose and then scan the tables for the limit you wish to play.

Using Poker Ace Hud you will be able to sort all tables using different criterias. For example you can list tables that have a majority of players with big stacks. This is vital because playing against short stacks destroys the implied odds of hands like pocket pairs. suited connectors and negates the effect of a LAG or semi LAG style. It also follows that if you consider yourself a winning player, you will want to sit on a table where there is more money to win.

Other options are available for free, as opposed to using Poker Ace Hud & PokerTracker. Many poker sites are offering table selection services but I recommend PokerTableRatings.com that is free, functional and that provides other reliable free services that I consider all very useful.

When you have a fresh list of tables along with their attributes (VPIP, PFR, AGG, etc.) you should avoid any table with an average VPIP of less than30%. This would be a tight table generally.

After you have identified the juciest tables you will still be able to analyze them further more by looking at their player’s statistics if they are available to you. You want to sit at the table(s) that has most loose players with decent sized stacks in front of them.

Using waiting lists

It’s important to understand that a big waiting list means a considerable amount of different players will play at the table before you can sit at it yourself. Don’t hesitate to join a waiting list if there are only a few other players waiting before you but consider another player if more than 1/3 of the current players will be gone before you can join as this will affect the table stats.

Positional advantage and simple preferences

Avoid having any loose players on your direct left. They are going to be floating you without knowing it, meaning you are playing pots out of position which is obviously not ideal or conducive to winning poker. You want these loose players to your right where you have position on them and you can make them pay for playing pots out of position with substandard hands and suboptimal decision making.

If I was offered a seat on a juicy table with a 60/5 with 1.5x buyin who would be on my direct left, I would probably turn it down and wait for a better seat. Unless the table was full of players like that, in which case I wouldd have to take it but generally I will reject the opportunity and wait to get position on my target(s).

It is important to realise when a table has gone bad; when it’s time to find another one. If table VPIP has gone below 30%, that’s often a pretty good sign. Other factors may be if your main fish leaves the table and you are left with tight regulars. Just walk away and find somewhere better to play; Poker is a ruthless game, and you have to take the decisions which will benefit you the most.

Start selecting the tables at which you play, you will eventuall find your own tricks and preferences and come up with your very recipe but you will start to benefit from this strategy right away!

Good luck at the tables!

Poker is a ruthless game, and you have to take the decisions which will benefit you the most.

Know when to walk away and find a better spot to play.

At some point in my adventure of living from playing Poker I was constantly winning at the 3/6 No-Limit Hold’em level. However I was very inconsistent in 5/10 NL but I would often attempt to win a thousand a day and then cash it out for personal use.

I would only leave a few thousand in my poker account to play. When I was running well this was great. I wouldd make a thousand and spend my cash on whatever I wanted. Only when things turned bad, and we all know they do, I would lose all the money in my account.

This put a lot of pressure on me and affected my mood to the point where I couldn’t concentrate on my game: I was tilted like an old busted pinball game!

Eventually a friend of ours introduced me the concept of a keeping a large bankroll to build a buffer of money when you encounter several consequent bad-beats and suck-outs.

His general rule is to have 20-25 buyins for the stakes you are playing. It has helped me see the amount of money I make every week and even prevented my mood from going on “tilt” when I take swings. Since then, I’ve taken poker more as a game instead of a way to make money.

Managing my bankroll has helped me play much better and not chase losses. It helps me see the long-term side of poker and I realized how tilting can kill your bankroll. If I’m aware that I’m on tilt, I either force myself start playing my A game again or I just leave the game; I no longer allow my emotions to play Poker instead of me.

With an adequate bankroll in my account, I’ve realized that I play poker to play well, instead of to win money. This helps me focus on my mistakes and think about other ways to play my hand. As a result, I actually win more money and get better at the game. When I’m not thinking about the money, I play much a better game and am more willing to put my chips into the pot when a lot is at stake.

I’ve always believed that in order to improve at a game, you can’t just practice a lot, you have to practice right. Having a bankroll was a vital step in my path to get me to where I am today. Why play $20 sngs, cash out your winnings each time and spend it all? Invest it in yourself. Keep the money to build a bankroll and rise up to bigger games. Give your potential a chance.

Good luck at the tables!

Poker is a game where players win money by bluffing or getting paid off for their hands.

To maneuver successfully between the two methods, players must realize their own table image- or what I would like to call credit. When you have credit (a good table image) players will fold to your bets more.

However, when you have no credit, players will categorize you as a bluffer, and play back at you or call your bets much more frequently.

Today I am going to explain the differences in the way you should play poker based on the type of “credit” you have.

A table image with no credit

Playing without credit is tougher than playing with credit. It’s not necessarily bad to have no credit in the eyes of your opponents; it just means that you have to play a super tight game and minimize your bluffing frequency.
When is it that players give you no credit for hands? An example is where you raise pre-flop with 3-8 suited in a shorthanded game and bet pot on both the flop and turn/river and got called down, thus exposing your horrible hand.
Players will see this and will not give you credit for a good hand the next time you raise pre-flop or bet flop. They will tend to play back at you (re-raise you) as often as they can. Mostly, they will do this with a check raise or a raise on the flop. Getting played back at constantly can be very expensive.

If they hold any pair on the flop, they would most definitely call you on the flop, and probably on a later street. Thus, switching to a super tight game is a good choice. Yet, by realizing that a raise on the flop by your opponents on the flop is likely to be a bluff, a re-raise to re-steal the pot could be appropriate depending on your read but you must be careful, players will also tend to check their monster hands to you and either check raise you the first time you bet, or on a later street, hoping to let you put money in the pot.

In short, you will get into trickier situations when you have no credit at the tables. You can use it to your advantage if you understand that your opponents will be re-raising with marginal hands.

The advantage of having no credit in the eyes of your opponents is that they will call many more of your bets and pay you off for your big hands. The disadvantages of having no credit are that you must play a much tighter game and you must be very selective bluffing, thus greatly diminishing your value of position.

A credible table image with credit

Playing with credit is much easier to play than playing without credit since people’s bets and raises against you are more likely to mean a good hand and there is a lot less reverse psychology involved which makes it easier for you to analyze.

When you start at a new table, you usually start out with credit in your opponents’ eyes. Players will be more likely to give you the benefit of doubt.

An example where you would gain credit is if you raise pre-flop with AK and check the flop of rags to the river. This gives the impression that you raise pre-flop with good hands, and you don’t bluff often (since AK was probably the best hand at the flop but you didn’t bet it). When you have credit, it is much easier to take pots after you raised pre-flop and bet the flop. Players would be less likely to play back at you with nothing.

It also makes your opponents easier to read. For example if the flop comes 3 8 8 and you bet, players will tend to fold to you unless they have a pair or the trips and if someone calls, you should probably check the rest of the way.
I play more aggressive when I have credit. I will raise pre-flop more liberally (especially in position), and bet out at almost any flop. I will also be more likely to raise someone on a draw. I will also be able to get clearer reads on others since their play will be more straightforward.

To summarize, the advantage of having good credit is that you will be able to steal many more pots and have players play more straightforward against you and the disadvantage is that you will less often be paid off for big hands.
Switching gears and changing betting patterns based on your credit becomes much more important as you play for bigger stakes. Realizing how much credit you have will also give you clearer reads on your opponents’ intentions and also helps you make better plays.

Good luck at the tables!

Any beginner will find it very interesting to realize they can dramatically increase their winnings by avoiding only a few mistakes! There are only so many mistakes that will lead a player to lose and most of them are easy to avoid. Understanding what you need not to do in the game is as important if not more than knowning what to do. Here are the most common beginner’s mistakes:

Having no pre-defined bankroll strategy

Many new poker players have a very bad approach to bankroll management. In fact, most of them invest in buy-ins more than they can afford. Poker has a luck factor that will influence your winnings and losses so all players must be aware they are going to encounter bad beats, suck-outs, and they should plan ahead to be less affected when their time comes.

Proper bankroll management starts by defining how many buy-ins you want to keep behind you and that should be 25 or more. Whenever you are not backed by other buy-ins you risk losing your entire bankroll. Defining a treshold in the limits you are playing will ensure you have a longer Poker career.

Not knowing enough about Tilt

We’re humans and humans have emotions. It’s inevitable; you will be on tilt from time to time. You can try to rationalize in order to avoid being on tilt but chances are your emotions will dominate your logic and you will be on Tilt anyways. Now what can you do when you’re on tilt?

Some players will start playing VERY badly when they are tilted, start to throw their money everywhere and profit the other players instead of themselves. Whenever you think you’re not playing your “A” game, take a break to change your ideas.

I came up with a few tricks that will prevent me from going on tilt too often and others to pass over my emotions in a shorter amount of time. They’re simple; listen to classical music when playing and playing the harmonica between two sessions. They are personal tricks and you should come up with your own.

Fearing of other players

Whenever you fear another player your decisions will be affected. If you begin playing at a table where you fear a player or if you develop fear toward another player you place yourself in a losing position and create a weakness in your play. You should never ever fear another poker player, remember that.

Being friendly at the table

Money is just a mean of conducting the game and you must remember your goal; leave the game with more money. If you make decisions out of pity for a friend that’s playing the same table you are placing yourself in a losing position.

Playing too many tables

Know that: playing a single table allows you to know your opponents more and exploit their vulnerabilities! It’s true that you can play 8 tables but it’s a different style of play.

Whenever I join a table I gather information about my opponents; how many tables are they playing, are they overall winning players or losing players, etc. When I find one of my opponents is playing over 4 tables I put him right away in a category. Tight player less likely to bluff. These players are very easily bluffed out of pots and you can know they will rarely bet pots twice unless they hold a solid hand.

You can play multi-table but know that it adds to your vulnerabilities!

Playing too many starting hands

Poker is a game of luck. Your only power over that luck lies in the selection of your starting hands, if you play hands with poor expected value, you will get poor value from them in the long run. Selecting winning hands before the flop depending on your position is key in gaining most control over luck.

Become attached to the pot

Bad decisions result from being attached to the pot. One you put money in there it’s no longer yours!!!

Become attached to a hand

Had you ever heard of someone’s fetish hand? Try not to have too many marginal hands or you will become attached to loss as well!

Bluffing from early position

Poker is a game of position. Don’t try to bluff too much out of the blinds or early position, guessing what your opponent has before seeing him act leads to bad decision, you will only win out of luck, not out of good play if you don’t play tight in early position.

Ignoring other players tendencies

There exist 3rd party softwares that allows the collection and analysis of other players tendencies. Keeping statistics of your opponents and writing down notes on them can be a big advantage over any other player.

Raise Based on M-Zone

Knowing how to select strong winning hands to begin playing we’re ready to play and want to raise. But how much? You want to eliminate limpers and players holding bad hands on the blinds however you will probably want at least one player to call your raise and you need to keep enough chips to keep playing comfortable in case your opponent hits the flop. The size of your raise is best determined by your current position in the MZone

Green Zone = Raise 5x the big blind.

Yellow Zone = Raise 4x the big blind.

Orange Zone = If M is greater than 7, raise 3x the big blind. If M is lower than 7, push all-in.

Red Zone = Push all-in.

Dead Zone = Well, not much you can do here!

This is a good recipe that will help you rock the sit’n'go tables until you become comfortable enough to pick up tells and evaluate your opponents. It will also protect you from winning too much money on unworthy cards. This methode expects you the be the first to voluntarily put chips into the pot. In upcomming articles we will discuss adjusting according to your position. In a few words if your M is high, your bet have to be bigger.

Obviously you might fall in the later zones, just remember when your M is under 8 there is only one move you know, ALL-IN. Dan Harrington the orinal creator of the MZone concept is teaching more strategies that can be developed using these key statistics in Harrington on Hold’em, Volume II. He often repeat that when you’re ALL-IN there’s only two ways to win the hand at showdown: if everybody folds to your bet and you win the blinds or if you get called and win the pot.

Now, we still need to address the situation when someone limps (just calls the big blind amount) or raises in front of you. If someone limps, apply the same guidelines. If someone raises in front of you, you need more information to determine the correct move but you can usually be sure that you need a better hand to call a raise with than you do to make a raise with (that’s the gap concept).

We’re getting there! Next, the post-flop strategies.

Winning Before the Flop

We now know that losing players play too many hands. They also play with their emotions rather than their logic when they get short stacked and play super tight being afraid to be eliminated.

We also learned that we can get a good idea of the strength of our hand by using our EV and the M of our stack in the Statistics: Expected Value (EV) and MZone article published earlier.

This is the formula you need to apply before the flop:

Raise if (EV x 100) > M and fold when it’s not.

Remember the previous formula expects you to be first entering the pot. But the exceptions will come by in later articles as I write them. For now just know that Poker is a game of situation..

We will explain it quickly, the EV of KQs is 0.67 and my M is 13.3 and 0.67 x 100 = 67 and 67 > 13.3 that’s a sure raise.

As often as I like to say it I cannot stress this enough, Sit’n'Gos are about survival. Don’t play hands when you don’t have to, you’re not playing to get in the game every other hand, be patient! Keep your chips when you have enough of them to ensure your place at the table remains. By following this simple formula until you get into the payout structure you will then switch gears and become more aggressive while playing a tight game and you will be able to benefit from the image you have established early at the table.

Use the Expected Value Chart thoroughly. While it is not specific to any position it will give you an edge no matter where you play it from if you are under good circumstances. The closest you get to the dealer the more your hand’s EV diminishes. Adjust your play according to position, play tighter when you’re in the early position, loosen up a bit in middle and play hands like Q9 suited when you’re on the button.

You will see a picture of Tournament Indicator that automates the computation of key statistics such as EV for every single hand dealt, it adjusts based on your table position and of course knows my M value at all times. This gives me a real advantage over anyone who is calculating these stats mentally every other hand.

But how much will you raise?
