The Convivium is just a few months away and will soon be upon us! (Trust me, my work revolves around field days, meetings and never having enough time, March is nearly done by my calendar, and April is dwindling in days – July will be here before we know it!)

To save ourselves any last-minute panics I suggest those of us interested in room-sharing in Adelaide start up a conversation around who might be persuaded to put up with whose snoring and stinky feet in the name of saving a few precious dollars (which can then be spent on merchandise).

I promise my pedal hygiene would earn admiration from the Archchancellor himself, and my pillow has never accused me of snoring in its life.

I can only say how honored I am that you have chosen me for this task. I will endevour to make sure the next Cultural Event is a memorable one, always remembering the currently tentative Dark Clerks Motto Veni Vidi Documenta Triplicati, the other maxim Io porto una penna tagliente.

I realise that my request for Drumknott’s assistance was perhaps over reaching and am beininng to look further afield for more likely personnel. Dear People of the Discworld; and Students,

We would like to invite you, one and all, to attend the Unseen University Convivium 2012, to be held at University of Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia, Roundworld, on July 6-8 2012.

This will be a celebration of all things Wizardly and Discworldly, for afficionados of the ouvre of Professor Sir Terry Pratchett. The weekend shall include lectures, seminars, games, performances of an artistic nature, and much more.

Of course, there will be a chance to experience one of UU’s famous big dinners at Gaudy Night, and for those able to stay an extra day, on July 9th there will be a Winery and Gourmet Tour. After all, there’s nothing wizards like more than dining and whining.

Have you heard? The Disc famous djelibeybian belly dancers (that’s you lot) are in town and coming to Armageddon to promote NA4!! YAAAAAAAYYY!!!! So grab your hipscarves, zills, veils, baggy pants, bright skirts and spangliest tops and join our hafla at Armageddon. No actual talent or experience required. On the job training will be provided (in the form of 20 second intensive workshop). Also actual parading time is flexible and it will likely occur more than once however anyone wishing to constantly parade the full 7 hours can expect a drink waiting for them at the bar and a round of cheers…

There are some lyrics to a few songs in the (Reformed) Vampyre’s Diary (2003). I read them in prep for my character at the Con – although I didn’t ever need to use them :) For the tunes, you can just make up anything that sounds vaguely like Amazing Grace or Onward Christian Soldiers or We Shall Overcome and you’ll be fine :)

At NA3 someone mentioned to me that Flashmobs would be a great way to promote the cons. I agreed and so it begins…

Have you forsworn drinking the “b-vord”? Will you stand up and be counted with your fellow Black Ribboners this weekend? Help us show the people of Melbourne that they have nothing to fear from us anymore by joining our Flash mob-style sing along. BYO coffee, tea, camera etc. Together we stand strong and can fight the power of the “b-vord”!

Join us this Sunday 2nd October at 11am at Fed Square for a flash sing-along!

please feel free to bring along new recruits. Don’t forget your ribbon and animal cardies are always welcome :) Lyrics will be available as soon as we find some. If you have lyrics or song ideas please post them here. The plan is that we converge upon Fed Square (please try not to scare the locals too much) and have a short sing along, disperse and then reassemble in front of the State Library at 11.30 sharp for a second round.

Be there or be chased with torches and pitchforks by a less musical mob :)

Just a quick note to let everyone know….

We are starting work on a potential Discworld Fan event to be held in Adelaide, July 2012. That means: We have volunteers for a committee, a lot of ideas, and have had a few meetings. We’re currently getting all the official organisational stuff done so we can soon nail down a date & venue. At that point, I’ll be able to reveal more.

So… for the moment, just pencil in “Adelaide Discworld Thingy?” in your diary for the July 2012 weekends. It’ll only be one of them, but we don’t know which one yet.

The Committee Meeting would probably be held in a fish and chips shop called Mangrove Jacks on Lt. Collins St on 26th this Sunday at 12:30. The address is Shop 5-7 540 Lt Collins St. The shop might be a little hard to find. If you think that it might be hard to find this place on your own, we are meeting at the tram stop William St on Bourke St around 12:00 to 12:30. Thank you.

“Most people” really depends on the people who you want to come along :) I generally go to the movies on Monday nights, and when I was much younger that was a rehearsal night.

City of Small Gods has picked Thursday nights, primarily because it’s when Ilona & I agreed we were both regularly free, and considering we got the ball rolling…. it doesn’t suit everybody (in that, we’ve had two dinners so far and perhaps half of those on the mailing list have actually been able to show up) but I guess, you do what you can, and people either make arrangements to be there, or they miss out.

You can’t please everyone :)
