Apparently an MP3 can either be ‘audio/mpeg’ or ‘audio/mpg’. CodeIgniter is only set to accept ‘audio/mpeg’; OS X seems to use ‘audio/mpg’.

This can be fixed by editing the mimes.php file located in:

system/application/config/mimes.php

Search for the line:

'mp3' => 'audio/mpeg'

And replace it with this:

'mp3' => array('audio/mpeg', 'audio/mpg')
