2

<a day of labor continued with little change. I was able to be up walking around or changing positions as long as I stayed hooked up to the monitors. Because of my previous c-section they wanted to monitor the baby very closely. Any change in her heart rate may have indicated a problem.

After another check at 11 indicated I was 3 cm...it seemed little change was happening. Lily was still really high. My midwife was amazing and kept reassuring me that it was my decision. I never once felt pressured to do anything. Around 12 I decided to get my epidural...having heard that sometimes it helps you relax and dilate more quickly. But also knowing it can make things slow down. I really have no idea how you super mom's give birth without an epidural.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with contractions & naps. Hanging out with Jason, my mom & one of my sisters.

Again my midwife was in at 2 and nothing had changed. I wasn't making much progress at all. Had I never had a c-section I probably would have continued to labor. And I thought I really wanted to avoid a c-section again at all cost. Still my midwife was encouraging and leaving it all up to me.

At this point I felt like no matter how long I continued there would be little change. It was the same with Jake he never really came down into the birth canal & I was progressing better with him. So I decided instead of laboring all day long & still ending with a c-section...

I made the choice to have a c-section. (yes, shocking given I really wanted a vbac) So at 2:45 we were wheeled into the operating room. At 3:06pm our precious Lily Kate arrived in this world weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce & 20 inches long. She is absolutely perfect.

I will post soon about how having a 2nd c-section has been totally different then the first time around. But until then..post may be sporadic and sometimes just pictures. I am still in the middle of celebrating our sweet baby girl, spending time with her wonderful big brother & enjoying time being a family of 4!

Oh if you could feel excitement through pictures it would make it so much better. Jake was beside himself when he got to see Lily for the 1st time. The smile on his face was bigger then ever. He just wanted to sit and hold her and look at her. He kept saying "I can't believe she is really here."
I had hopes of trying for a vbac.
1am while changing a load of laundry from the washer to the dryer my water broke. Was this really it? I went to Jason who was watching tv & said "umm, I think my water broke or I just peed my pants a whole bunch." Jason instantly jumped up asking what he needed to do. I just kept saying "I don't know...it won't stop." I went and stood in the bathroom because every time I moved more water would come. I told Jason to go pack himself a bag while I decided what I needed to do.

At this point I hadn't been having any contractions other then a few braxton hicks earlier in the day. I had just been to the doctor Monday afternoon & was told Lily was still really high and it didn't look like labor would happen before my c-section date.

Trying for a vbac meant I had to go into labor on my own with no help from pitocin or any other inducing methods. My water breaking gave me a chance at having a vbac.

I finally decided to put some bathing suit bottoms on (they seemed absorbent) and wrap a towel around me. Jason & I then proceeded to run around the house getting things ready. I thought I had at least a few days. I had Lily's bag packed for the hospital, but hadn't packed anything for me & hadn't packed Jake a bag for his stay with my in-laws. Jason started picking up the house, the dishwasher needed to be unloaded. We were basically running around the house doing things I thought I had a week to do. Oh & putting Lily's carseat in the car too.

Around 2:00am I started having contractions. They were ranging from 10 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart. Around 2:30 I called my doctors office and they said to go ahead and come on in(we are about an hour from the hospital). We woke Jake up dropped him off at my inlaws & headed to the hospital.

We were checked in & in the labor & delivery room by 4am.

The upsetting news came when at 5am they checked me and I was still barely 1c, thick & high which was what I was Monday afternoon at the doctor. By this time I had been having contractions every 3-5 minutes.

My midwife came in and said she would be back around 8am to check on me.

It is hard to believe that just 1 short week ago we welcomed you into this world.

You are the easiest going baby. You sleep most of the day waking about every 2 hours to eat and have a few minutes of awake time. You usually have one longer period of awake time around 6pm. Nights are just as easy with you too. You continue your every 2 hour feeding until around 1am. The last few days you have slept until 5:30 or 6:30 after your 1am feeding. Getting that 4 1/2-5 1/2 hour stretch of sleep really has helped me to not feel so sleep deprived. I was worried I might need to wake up during this time to feed you, but the consensus from everyone seems to be let you sleep. I know you are getting enough during the day and it is only the one long stretch. I never had to think about this with your brother...he was not a very good sleeper at night.

Your brother is so in love with you. He is always asking to hold you. He is waiting on pins and needles for the day mommy will let him give you a bottle. He loves the times when you have your eyes open and always makes sure to show you his cool tricks during those times.

You are a nursing super star. You had a perfect latch from the moment I fed you in the hospital and have had no issues with eating.

We are all getting adjusted to having you outside of mommy's belly. We love watching all the funny faces you make while you are sleeping. And none of us can get enough of just staring into your sweet little face.

But we have made it to 9 months...only 4 weeks until my due date. However, I have a c-section scheduled for 39 weeks. I will take one more picture wearing this blue shirt right before going to the hospital. Unless of course I go into labor before my c-section date then I may not get a last belly shot in the blue shirt.

I haven't posted too much about really wanting a vbac (vaginal birth after cesarean) or the plan that has been set by my doctors. I may post that this week. The c-section being scheduled at 39 weeks isn't the ideal situation, but it is the way my doctors office works. I am given an opportunity to have a vbac if I go into labor on my own before 39 weeks. Other wise I will have a repeat c-section.

I am still feeling pretty good even at 36 weeks. Over the last week or so I must have really started looking big. I am getting comments almost every time I am out. It really is shocking to me how often people say things. And it almost seems like I am getting more comments from men then women. Things like "you must be miserable", "are there 2 babies in there?", "you look like you are due any day." I suppose these are all fine things to say to a 9 month pregnant girl. But the truth is I really haven't been miserable yet(yes, my almost all day heart burn might make things a little tough). I am actually enjoying being pregnant and trying to enjoy every moment I have left. Jake was born a few days after 37 weeks so I know that this can be over any day now. I want to remember every moment of our sweet Lily when she was in my belly.

I am doing much better this pregnancy then I did with Jake. At this point my blood pressure was up and I had been put on moderate bed rest. The 2nd time around seems a little easier.

I may get one more post up before she is born, but we will see how it all plays out. But if not my c-section is scheduled for Jan. 23rd. And I am sure I will have an update posted later that week
My sisters & I along with our children & husbands all meet at my parents house. Enjoying time together, eating yummy appetizer food, and entertaining our children. Not very hard they kids all typically play together.

This year I decided we would add a little more fun for the kids. I saw several by the hour bags and thought our kids would enjoy this. Thinking most of the kids would be asleep before midnight we started our bags at 5 and ended with an early toast at 10pm. Little did we know that only 1 of the children would actually be asleep by midnight. Jake made it until 12 toasted the new year with us and then was sound asleep on the couch by 12:10am.
The look of excitement is one to remember forever. I also love that at 4 years old he still comes down the stairs with his blankies tucked under his arm.
One with all the cousins(well...not the babies)& another with sweet friends.

Decorating with your cousins takes lots of concentration. I love these traditions we have built into our celebrations.
The kids decorated cookies to look like melted snowmen. Along with having snowmen donuts for a snack. Thank you Vickie for a super fun snowman party.

One of our friends put together a ginger bread nativity making play date. It was so much fun to make these adorable nativities. I loved watching Jake concentrate so hard on making each piece of his nativity.

And then it wouldn't be Christmas without a trip to see Santa. This year we had my sister's baby Wyatt to add to Caleb & Jake's Christmas picture. We all can't believe next Christmas there will be a little Lily sitting with Santa too. This was seriously the best smile we could get on Jake's face. Yea...he doesn't do well when you tell him to smile. Oh well...hopefully next year he will have a better smile.

This year Jake was into helping. And was even out on the roof helping too. But just like his Daddy he has a small fear of heights.
But I decided instead of all one post I should do it in a couple. I guess I could have shared this post a month ago, but alas here is part 1 of getting Lily's room ready. (disclaimer:I know babies don't need elaborately decorated rooms, but I love doing it & wanted to decorate the room just for her).

Lily's room used to be our "office"...where the computer was. Along with the room that anything that didn't have a place went into that room. It was extra storage for us...and 9 times out of 10 was a HUGE disaster. Oh and we used to have a snake in the room too. Right after we found out Lily would be on her way Jason found someone to take the snake(thank goodness)!

So we cleaned out her room and then picked out a pink for the walls. Painting was the next step to getting it ready. Jake was so excited to be able to help paint the pink walls.

I had been searching the internet for girl room ideas and saw several rooms with trees. After we picked out her bedding I knew a tree would look great in Lily's room. Thank goodness for a wonderful high school friends who also happens to be an amazing artist(or really good at anything creative). I showed her a couple pictures of what I liked and away she went. Sketching a tree on the wall free hand and then painting it. Thank you Marisa...if you want something painted on your wall let me know & I will pass her along your way.

I love how curvy & girly her bed is!! And hopefully when she is a teenager her big dresser will make up for the fact that she has the room with a tiny closet. Jake's room has a closet that could almost count as a whole other bedroom.

Stay tuned part 2 the finished room will be up a little later this week.

I really can't believe how close we are to meeting our little Lily Kate.

My c-section is scheduled for January 23rd. I am still holding out that she will come on her own & I will have a chance at a vbac. Because of my previous c-section my doctor's office won't induce & they won't let me go to my due date. Which leaves everything up to Lily to be ready to come on her own. I am a little more ok with the c-section now. However, it is still not my ideal way to welcome our baby girl. I want a vbac so that my baby can be handed directly to me when she comes out. Not just shown to me all wrapped up as her & her Daddy leave the operating room. The recovery from a vaginal delivery is so much easier than a c-section. I really wonder about taking care of a baby & Jake after a c-section. I know Jason will be here to help & of course my parents & Jason's parents are going to be able to help too.

Sorry about this months pictures...we are still using our half broken camera & of course this is the best picture we could get today.

I have my next doctors appointment on December 12th with another ultrasound. At my last appointment she was breech...I think she might still be that way. I still feel all her movement in the same spot as before...so I am thinking she hasn't turned. But I could be wrong. Starting with my appointment on the 12th I will then be going to the doctor twice a week until she is born. Monday's will be an ultrasound & then on Thursday I go back for an NST. This is all because of my gestational diabetes. I had the same thing with Jake. At the end they want to keep a closer watch that she is not getting too big.

Holy heart burn...I have the worst heart burn of my life. It has been bad throughout my pregnancy, but now it is pretty much an all day thing. But it is the small inconveniences to having a baby.

Everything else is going great! Trying to take it all in before it is all over. I missed Jake being in my belly after he was born & I am sure I will miss having Lily all to myself too once she is here.

This weekend we decorated our Christmas tree...I love our tree! It is us on a tree.

Sometimes I think I want a Martha Stewart theme tree. With beautiful matching balls & spiral ribbon wrapping through the tree. Everything else in the house would coordinate with our tree & everyone would comment on how beautiful it was. Because really isn't that the only purpose of a Martha Stewart tree...beauty?

As we decorated our tree this weekend our family of 3, with 4 year old helping hands putting all his ornaments in one spot together on the tree. Belly swollen, 8 months pregnant with our new baby girl. I knew that we would always have our Christmas tree. Full of memories & fun. Not everything perfect or in the "right" spot. This tree is us & just looking at each ornament brought back every memory from that year.

We have the little house..."New Home" 2002...which was also the same year Jason proposed to me. How special that we spent our first Christmas in our new house and he put a gourgeous ring on my finger and asked me to be his wife forever.

The other ornaments throughout the years that we started collecting together.

The 25 classic cars that cover our tree(for our 1st Christmas were really all we had on our tree). Jason's mom started buying him the Hallmark classic car collection when he was a little boy. And every year as soon as Christmas ornaments are out she gets him his new car for the year.

The one from Jake's 1st Christmas...to celebrate our tiny 2 month old little boy who changed our world the day he was born.

And then there are the others...Some my mom buys when she sees one I might like & some we buy when we see them at the store. And every year along with Jason's car my mother-in-law picks out an ornament for me & gets Jake a new ornament (or 2).

So when you come to my house and see our beautiful tree full of memories...I hope you will see the life that has been lived through the ornaments on our tree. The blessings we have experienced over the years are all displayed on that tree.
Christmas is the perfect time for traditions and adding new one's too.
But along with our fun traditions of elf on the shelf, reindeer food, & hot chocolate movie nights I want to be adding traditions that help us to keep our focus on Jesus. He is the real reason we celebrate Christmas after all. I want to make sure that Jake understands that we don't just have Christmas to get presents. There is so much more we should have our focus on at this time. And those things are so much more important then the gifts under the tree(although, they are fun too & will be including in our Christmas celebration).

Yesterday we kicked off our Christmas Advent count down. I searched pinterest & several other places on the internet & found lots of very cute ways of counting down, but just wasn't sure what I wanted to use.

We have started Truth in the Tinsel an Advent experience for little hands. It looks like it is going to be lots of fun to do with Jake each day. It includes a short reading(today we read Isiah 9:2-7) & then there is an ornament craft to go with it. All the crafts are pretty simple & include most things you already have around your house. Along with a short little section to talk about what you read and a suggestion to do more together.Truth in the Tinsel is great for us to do as a family each morning. Last year we did a Jesse tree & a family advent book I had picked up at Lifeway. I am still doing the Jesse tree devotions as part of my daily quiet time. The Jesse tree devotion is by Ann Voskamp(if you know me, you know how wonderful I think Ann is) and a great way to really focus on getting into the spirit of real Christmas. And her devotional is free!

I also wanted to have fun things to do each day as we counted down. A fun little activity we could do sometime throughout the day. Here is our list of things we will be doing over the next month.
1. Open a book-I love the idea of counting down to Christmas with 25 books, but we only have 8 Christmas books around our house. So I wrapped those 8 and spread throughout the month I have included open a book.
2. Make a fun breakfast with Mommy(we made red velvet pancakes this morning...not enough red food coloring, but they still tasted yummy).
3. Open a book
4. Decorate tree with hot chocolate & a fire(w got our tree last week, but have been waiting for daddy to be home to decorate it)
5. Polar Express Movie pj & hot chocolate party
6. Buy yearly ornament
7. Shop for Hope for Christmas
8. Make gingerbread nativity
9. Visit Santa
10. Journey through Bethlehem
11. Fun trip with mommy & daddy(haven't decided if we will do Stone Mountain Christmas or Pettite Creek)
12. Write Letter to Santa
13. Bring letter to the Macy's Believe Santa mail box
14. Drive around neighborhood to see lights
15. Make ice cream cone trees
16. Open book
17. Cookie decorating party
18. Christmas activity with Daddy
19. Open book
20. Make neighborhood gifts
21. Deliver gifts for neighbors
22. Make reindeer food
23. Jesus birthday party
24. Church & visits with family
25. Read the Christmas story & open presents

So it lead me to want to include both our advent activity and our fun activities into the same Christmas countdown. Each day of our advent activity we make a craft and each craft needs certain materials(Amanda has included a list of all the materials you need along with a list by day in Truth in the Tinsel...really no thinking on my party). I didn't want to have to be searching around for our materials each day before we could sit down and do our activity. I was also trying to use what I had around the house(I was trying to hurry and get it all together on the 30th in preparation for the 1st). And from this was born our white lunch bag Christmas countdown. In each bag is our print out from Truth in the Tinsel & the materials we will need for our craft. On the front of the bag I made a small pocket out of scrapbook paper and tucked a tag into the pocket. On the tag is written the activity we will do each day. In a few of the bags there are also small treats like a chocolate kiss or Christmas sticker that I thought Jake would like finding in the bags too.
They where working man pants(khaki cargo pants like pawpaw wears to work) and of course you can't forget the working boots too.

Pawpaw, of course, was all about him having a this kind of party. Pawpaw took to planning a real outside boy party.
No working man party would be complete without tools for prizes & each boy went home with their very own real tool set.

We are so blessed to be surrounded by so many people who love us and already love our sweet girl. It couldn't not have been better to celebrate Lily with all these wonderful people(and those who couldn't be there too).
It was so exciting to see all the details she put together. She blessed us with a knitting themed baby shower with a touch of vintage to go along with it.

Started from Psalm 139:13 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."

She really is that creative to make a whole shower from a Bible verse. And it all looked so beautiful together.
Because breakfast might be one of my favorite types of food(is that a type or just a meal?) Vickie served delicious breakfast food. And some may think baby shower games are cheesy, but I happen to think they are fun. And it seemed everyone enjoyed the games Vickie put together too.
My sweet friend Vickie did a great job on them. I don't want to give away what will be on our Christmas cards this year...so I am sharing some of the outtakes. Jake was being very silly on picture day. We got several of him making funny faces.
That means Lily is almost here.

I have probably said this with every monthly update, but I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. And I know with Thanksgiving only 2 weeks away and then Christmas it is going to seem even faster. This time of year always goes so fast...I am determined to try and slow down to enjoy every minute. I want to take in all the Holiday fun with Jake since this is his last as an only child. I also want to take in every minute of this pregnancy(especially since it seems this could be the last). I want to remember every kick, every feeling, & even every discomfort.

My goal is to have her room finished by Thanksgiving. With last weeks painting and this weeks furniture delivery it looks like we will accomplish that goal. This will definitely help in being able to enjoy this season and not have to worry about getting everything finished in time for Lily to be here.

Are you wondering about her name? If we aren't friends on facebook you may have missed the official announcement. By a very small 1 vote we have a name winner....LILY KATE is our baby girl's name. As I have said she has been Lily for a long time, but we weren't sure about spelling or middle name.

Everything is going great with only a few discomforts. The biggest being heart burn. I had some heart burn with Jake, but it has been terrible this time. Over the last couple weeks it seems no matter what I eat, or drink I am likely to get heart burn. I have to say I am so glad that the only time I get heart burn is when I am pregnant...not sure how people deal with it all the time. It is so painful!!!

She is moving a lot, but already seems to be in a schedule. She moves a little in the morning when I first get up. I occasionally feel her throughout the day. Then just as it has been for a while she moves a whole bunch in the evening. I am excited to go to my Dr. appointment on Friday. I will get another ultrasound and will be able to see how she is positioned. At my last appointment her head was on my right side and butt was on my left, going all the across my belly. I can't tell if she has moved to be head down...I feel her moving all over my belly making it hard to tell which is what moving.

My wonderful best friend is hosting a baby shower for us this weekend. I am so excited to celebrate our sweet girl with our family & friends. I am sure I will have pictures to share from then.

Am I missing anything? Do you have any questions about this pregnancy?
