UPDATE: Due to crazy summer schedules, we’re going to postpone this NWAV meeting. We will have a somewhat less-nerdy Showcase on August 7th at theSlate in NW Portland, in the meantime. Details soon!

Join us Friday, July 23rd at Zoomtopia in SE Portland for demos, fun and audiovisual chit-chat. We’ll start at 7pm.

Peter Marks will demonstrate his method for creating unique visual patterns tied to Ableton Live clips via custom OSC sequencing software.
We’ll discuss the Cinemasonic AV Showcase we put on in Seattle for the Northwest Folklife Festival, what worked, what didn’t, what we could do differently next time. Check out Daniel Atkinson’s Cinemasonic Gallery on Facebook.

Join us Friday, March 26 at Fashionbuddha Studios in Portland for demos, fun and audiovisual chit-chat. We’ll start at 7pm.

Stephen Schieberl aka Let’s Go Outside will demonstrate Radial, a new way to collaborate on and perform loop-based music. Multi-touch from the ground up, Radial throws out traditional mouse interaction and linear arrangement. Loading a track sets sounds along the perimeter of a ring. Driving these sounds towards the center of the screen affects their volume, while pushing them to the very middle removes them. The circular interface favors no orientation, encouraging others to play from any side of a multi-touch surface. It’s a fun, intuitive way to interact with sounds just for kicks or as a live performance tool.

Todd Greco, aka mrBallistic will show off the next wave in hands-on video manipulation with Serato Video-SL. Live scratching with video? Yes.

The event is free and open to everyone interested in video performance, especially as it relates and integrates with music.

I’m writing from the mezzanine of the Grey Gallery on 11th ave in Seattle. I’ve just finished editing some of the footage I shot at Neumos during the first night - featuring music from Careen Ajar, Balún, Tujiko Noriko, Barbara Morgenstern and Jahcoozi. Visuals were handled by Scott Pagano, KillingFrenzy, yours truly (Momo the Monster), LowRez, and help on visuals and lights by Tracer Visuals (Scott Sun).

I’m exhausted, and I haven’t even really been out tonight. I started organizing footage this afternoon (after getting a full night’s sleep from last night’s 4am arrival) and then went straight to the Optical Showcase to shoot footage tonight. I’m hoping to make Deadmau5 + Scott Pagano at Neumos tonight, if nothing else, but it all depends on how quickly the encoding + uploading process goes.

On a side note, it’s pretty crazy that I can fit an HD acquisition/editing rig in a (large) shoulder bag. Though I’ll need another Hard Drive soon - my HF100 files become HUGE when I transcode them to Apple ProRes. As another note, I forgot to mention in the credits that the opening music is ‘Con Los Pies’ by Balún. Finally, I’d like to mention that I will be replacing this video with an HD version tomorrow if I’ve got enough upload credit left in my Vimeo account this week.
