The third round for Xiaomi Smart phone went up for sale at 2 pm today and in a snap of a Finger, it was wiped off the shelves. It is really hard to believe that 15,000 units of a phone could be wiped off at this rate but this is what happened earlier today. Looks like as soon as someone hits the buy button, the phone is labeled “Out of Stock”. The next sale is on August 12 and the registrations will begin at 6 PM today. Users will have to register again for the next sale.

Xiaomi has been using Raksha Bandhan as a perfect stage to pitch it sales and the demand of the phone clearly states that it has been successful in its attempt.

At just Rs. 13,999 this is a killer smartphone packed with tons of features and has an amazing build quality. But even though the response is touching the roof, the company has not been able to satisfy the needs of all the registered users (around 1,50,000) but hopefully, in the near future, the company will increase its production.

Xiaomi Mi3 - A Killer Smartphone

Xiaomi has already entered the country. Backed by the previous Google Android mastermind Hugo Barra, the company now seeks to make an impact in the native market compared to what its predecessors have already achieved. As of now, there's still a long way to go before we find out exactly how brilliantly the company will do when the native market is concerned. However, it seems like the company has made the right jump into the challenge with the release of the attractive new Mi3 handset.

For a company that has often been called the ‘Apple of China’, the build and design of a smartphone should be of much importance. Looking at the Mi3, it is evident that Xiaomi puts as much attention to build and design as it does on keeping the price of the phone low. The smartphone has an aluminium-magnesium chassis and a matte like finish on the back. It does feel somewhat like plastic, but not enough to disappoint. If you care, it does turn a few heads when you’re out and about.

Going through the specs of the device once more, the Xiaomi-made Mi3 sports a 5-inch IPS display offering a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and 441ppi pixel density with Corning Gorilla glass protection.

It is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM 8974AB) processor coupled with 2GB DDR3 RAM and it runs a custom interface dubbed MiUI that is a very different take on Android.

The smartphone also features a high-end camera modules. You will find a 13MP rear camera with LED Flash, Sony Exmor BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 1080p full HD video recording along with a 2MP front-facing camera with similar specs as the rear camera.

The latest Xiaomi smartphone which measures 114mm×72mm×8.1mm and weighs 145g will house a 16 GB internal memory.

Connectivity options include 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC and will draw its energy from a 3050mAh battery.

Google's Project Ara aims at modular smartphones

For those of you who are new to Project Ara, it is a project started by Motorola in an attempt to make phonebloks a reality and now, Motorola's Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) has turned a concept into a working module and if these modules are designed perfectly as expected, it will transform the mobile world as you will be able to choose your own hardware and can customize your whole phone as your personal computers.

The news according to CNET says that it's been a few months since Motorola announced its modular smartphone idea called Project Ara. Since then, Google has sold the phone maker to Lenovo and it's been unclear what would happen with the project. But now, new details are emerging.

It turns out Google held onto Motorola's Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group where Project Ara was housed. Run by Regina Dugan, the former director of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), ATAP is now under Google's Android umbrella.

The project, which aims to help smartphone users build customizable handsets, is expected to have a functioning prototype ready within a few weeks and a commercial release by early next year, according to a Time Magazine article that interviewed Paul Eremenko, the head of the project, and other people working on the project. Wednesday's lengthy report also revealed details of what Google has in store for the initiative.

The central idea of Project Ara is to help smartphone users take handset customization beyond ringtones, wallpaper, and body colors to the devices' very form and function. The initiative would be a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones.

An endoskeleton, or structural frame, would hold the smartphone modules of the owner's choice, such as a display, keyboard, or extra battery -- and users would be able to swap out malfunctioning modules or upgrade as innovations emerge.

"The question was basically, could we do for hardware what Android and other platforms have done for software?" Eremenko told Time. "Which means lower the barrier to entry to such a degree that you could have tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of developers as opposed to just five or six big [manufacturers] that could participate in the hardware space."

Google is pushing for the endoskeleton to cost $50. It will come only with Wi-Fi and no cellular connection. Users could then build up the phone how they like with various modules, like a camera, high-speed processor, speakers, and more.

"We want not just to create something that's custom, and not even just something that's unique, but actually something that's expressive so that people can use this as a canvas to tell a story," Eremenko said. "So that you can set your phone down at dinner on the table next to you, and it becomes a topic of conversation for the first fifteen minutes of dinner."

There will be three sizes of endoskeleton: mini, medium, and jumbo. They will have an aluminum frame, networking circuitry, and a back-up battery. Each endoskeleton will have several module connectors -- for example, the medium frame will have room for 10 connectors.

These lockable modules can be swapped out and switched around without having to shut off the phone. They will also be small -- only 4mm thick -- so a complete phone would measure 9.7mm in thickness. For comparison, the iPhone 5S is 7.6mm thick and Samsung's Galaxy S5 is 8.1mm.

Google buys webcam gesture app Flutter for $40 million

Flutter, the app that lets you control music and movie playback using gestures picked up by a webcam, is to continue life as a Google product. The innovative app is the latest acquisition by the search giant, and comes just three years after the company was founded in San Francisco, California. Flutter is extremely upbeat about the purchase, seemingly keen to reap the benefits of the Google marketing machine.

So what could all this mean? At this stage it is mere speculation, but there is certainly scope for Flutter's webcam driven gesture technology to be incorporated into a future version of Android or used as a touchscreen alternative for Chromebooks.

A Google spokesman told me: "We’re really impressed by the Flutter team’s ability to design new technology based on cutting-edge research. We look forward to supporting and collaborating on their research efforts at Google".

In the meantime it is still possible to download the app and use it to control apps such as Spotify, VLC and iTunes in OS X and Windows.

Besides the Bling Bling factor of the new iPhone 5S, the most eye-catching feature was the fingerprint scanner, which as it turns out, has been hacked just within two days of the phone’s launch.

A group of German hackers, the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) have claimed that just within two days of the iPhone 5S hitting the hands of the lucky few who pre-ordered it, they have managed to hack the fingerprint scanner on the device. The group, one of the oldest of its kind in existence and the most prominent, said they lifted the fingerprint off the phone’s surface by taking a photo of it. They have detailed the entire process in a post on their site and also showed off a video with the hack being conducted.

GTA V becomes fastest selling entertainment product in history

Calling Grand Theft Auto V one of 2013's most anticipated video game releases would be a massive understatement, but if you wanted some sort of monetary proof of the claim, Take-Two interactive has it. According to a press release issued today,GTA V has cleared over $1 billion in sales in its first three days on the market; crunch the numbers, and that adds up to more than 16.5 million units sold. Take-Two says that it believes this makes it the fastest selling entertainment property in history -- the last major release to make that claim, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, took 15 days to reach the milestone. It's an impressive accomplishment, but it's potentially only the tip of the iceberg: GTA V is rumored to be ported to PC and next generation consoles, and has a literal product lifetime to hold down its sales record.

Samsung's made an annual tradition of introducing a new Galaxy Note at Berlin's IFA trade show and this year's no different. The Galaxy Note 3 sticks close to the winning formula: it enlarges the Super AMOLED display of the Note II to 5.7 inches, adds a bombastic 3GB of RAM and a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, raises the camera resolution to 13 megapixels, and simultaneously trims the fat so it can be a millimeter thinner at 8.3mm and a shade lighter at 168g. Those incremental upgrades all point to a better device, but only marginally so — Samsung's hopes for attracting new buyers to its Note platform rest on a suite of new stylus-friendly software features and a physical redesign aimed at making the Note 3 look that extra bit more glamorous.

Windows/Linux: Elisa, the clean, straightforward media center we previously toured, has grown into something else—namely Moovida, a similar but more advanced and TV-focused media center. Take a look at what's new in this brief screenshot tour.

Before you jump into the pretty pictures, let us note that Moovida, available free for Windows and Linux systems, plays nicer on XP and Vista systems than on Windows 7 RC, at least for the moment. It also asks for your email address to keep you up to date on upgrades, plugins, and other releases, but you can skip that sign-up screen during installation. On with the gallery.

Moovida drops Elisa's somewhat clunky spin-the-icons interface for neat columns of media, divided into movies, music, pictures, and then settings and plugin controls. The controls are optimized for browsing with a remote, as everything can be accomplished with forward and back clicks, and onscreen keyboards are brought up when necessary.

Like Boxee and other open-source media centers, Moovida hopes to grow organically through plugins. Right now, the developers have brought in a pretty nice collection of extenders for YouTube, deviantART, Flickr, the TED Talks, and other streaming media, but let's hope more on their way.

We dig the way album covers are shown as full-size backgrounds while tracks are playing, and you can browse photos and other no-sound-needed media while you're rocking out. If you've got video files with fan art, Moovida says it can roll with those, too.

You can't really see it in this YouTube clip (which buffered and played really quickly), but Moovida has "full HD support" for both online and offline media. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has already started to make its way out to devices and it’s time to let rumours about the next big step for Google’s mobile platform – Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie make its way into the open. While most have given up hope that the next iteration of Android will be seen this year, rumours maintain that it could debut with the new Google Nexus 10 or the Nexus 5 in the last few months of this year.

With the constant leaks about a new Android update throughout the year, it was assumed that Google would straight away be putting out a major one with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Instead, Google announced that it was going to release an update within the Jelly Bean family – Android version 4.3.

Coming this October?

At the Breakfast with Sundar event last month, Android honcho Sundar Pichai also confirmed that a new Google Nexus 10 was in works. The tablet could see a release in October, around the time of the 5th birthday of Google’s mobile platform. This has led to rumours that Android’s version number five, Key Lime Pie could make its debut this very year. After all what better timing than releasing Android 5.0 on its fifth birthday. Some rumours also suggest that the Nexus 5 could be announced along with the update, marking a hat-trick in the series of “5” for Google.

Google has a knack of releasing hardware and software together over the years. Gotta be Mobile points out that the Galaxy Nexus brought along Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011, the Nexus 7 tagged along Android 4.1 Jelly Bean the following year and later in 2012, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 HSPA+ introduced Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. History has it that the time is ripe for not just another device from the Google stable, but also a newer version of Android this very year.

Apple has been accused of stealing patented speaker technology from THX for its line of iOS devices and iMac computers.

The audio company, founded by Star Wars mastermind George Lucas, has filed suit in California claiming Apple has infringed upon a patent granted to THX in 2008.

The patent in question is called "narrow profile speaker configurations and systems" and relates to how speaker units can be connected to flatscreen televisions and desktop computers to boost output.

THX is seeking compensation or royalties from Apple, in its filing to the San Jose federal court, saying the infringement has caused "monetary damage and irreparable harm."

The day Samsung fans worldwide have been expecting is finally here: the South Korean manufacturer has officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Android smartphone that you’ll be hearing about a lot in the next few months.
With the hype swirling around the new Galaxy S4, we all have expectations from a follow-up to the best selling Android device of all time. Moreover, the competition in the Android ecosystem was never tougher.
One of the best Android smartphones currently available is the Google Nexus 4, a “pure Google” smartphone manufactured by LG that has attracted loads of interest thanks to its low price tag, but also its limited availability.

Samsung Galaxy S4 specs

Truth be told, the Samsung Galaxy S4 hardware isn't really the star of the show. But that's not to say the Galaxy S4 specs aren't impressive. They most certainly are, and it's even more impressive considering that Samsung's built everything into a device that's in nearly the same footprint as its predecessor, the Galaxy S3.

On the hardware side, there's really nothing too surprising. The Galaxy S4 broad strokes are a 5-inch display, 2 gigabytes of RAM and Samsung's usual mix of physical and capacitive buttons.

Both HTC One and Sony Xperia Z will be available on plans starting at £34 per month from Three, with an upfront cost of £69. Vodafone, meanwhile, is offering the Sony Xperia Z free on plans starting at £42 per month.
