Bollywood's dancing diva Madhuri Dixit is making a comeback on the big screen with 'Dedh Ishqiya'. Here's another fresh poster of big screen's Begum Para in the movie, which is a sequel to hit film 'Ishqiya'.

Madhuri Dixit's earlier poster showed her behind veil obscuring her beauty, in dance posture. However, this poster shows her in fine light. 'Dedh Ishqiya' is the story of love and deceit and is set to release on January 31, 2014.

“Communities Build Universities and Universities Build Communities”, and this has been proved worldwide. Universities have frequently been regarded as key institutions in processes of social change and development; they play a vital role in social transformation which is primarily based on fundamental social changes like polity and the economy and for this; universities produce highly skilled labour and research output to meet the economic needs as well as playing its role in building new institutions of civil society and encouraging new cultural values. Thus the universities have wider educational, social, economic and cultural significance for the regions in which they operate as otherwise such opportunities wouldn’t be available in the region.

The case of University of Gujrat (UoG) is also quite impressive and fascinating in this regard as it is playing a vital role in the socio-economic transformation of the surrounding districts. Like any other modern university it is playing four major roles, i.e.; provision of higher education, knowledge creation through research & development, creating social space by inculcating awareness in the community and establishing external and industrial linkages. District Gujrat particularly and surrounding districts generally are being benefitted by having easy access to higher education, social and cultural change and economic impact in the form of income, expenditures and development of human capital.

UoG was established in September 2006 in Gujrat at Hafiz Hayat at a distance of 13 km from the city center. In between Lahore and Islamabad this is the only comprehensive public sector university serving under the visionary leadership of Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin who joined it in Sept. 2006. Dynamic leadership, untiring, and relentless hardwork of Dr. Nizam has transformed UoG into a great institution. Initially, it was consisted on 4 constituent colleges only but now it has a main Hafiz Hayat Campus, 4 constituent colleges, one medical and one law college besides Institute of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Since 2006, there is an appreciable increase in students' enrollment from 227 students enrolled in its BA, BSc. Programs to 18,000 students enrolled in BS, MS/Mphil and PhD programs. University has 8 faculties, 36 departments and offers 96 degree programs. In addition to this, university has over 73 affiliated colleges and dozens of national and international linkages with both academic and non-academic organisations. University transport system is another hallmark and it commutes almost 6000 students daily from home to the university and back.

The first and foremost contribution of the University of Gujrat is the provision of higher education to a catchment area of 100 km in all directions and it has made the access to higher education possible to a wider community. Enrollment in the higher education has increased many hundred times than before. Females are the highest beneficiary of the university as the overall percentage of female students is higher than 60%. Access to higher education to such a high number of female students will bring a great revolution in the socio-economic fabric of the local community as prior to this only a minority of the female students could afford admissions in the universities of other cities after graduation. University is helping the community to retain the youth in the area for higher education and producing high level ‘Human Capital’ by offering a range of courses from diploma level to PhD level. So far, University has produced approx 20000 graduates in various disciplines. Out of this, 4000 plus students graduated in BS, MS and MPhil programs, whereas the others fall in BA and MA category. Such a big number in a brief period of only 6 years is a great contribution in raising the skill level of the community overall, side by side providing an opportunity of exposure of national and international markets. University students are interacting with local as well as national and international organizations at the platform of the university. Graduation of such big number of population is expected to bring positive change in the socio-cultural aspects of the region. Interaction of the students and faculty members from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds is also contributing in the integration of the national culture by sharing different values.

Second important role of the UoG in the economy of district Gujrat is also quite considerable. The economic benefits derived from UoG activities as an economic entity differs very little from the economic benefit one would expect from any other entity that employs people and trades in the local economy. UoG is earning income, expanding income and offering employment. The direct impact of income, expenditure and employment generated by the university is also further augmented by the “multiplier effect” as some money spent locally by the university is spent again by those who receive it. Besides the spending of the local employees the vast majority of the employees from other regions of the country spend an estimated 30-40% of their salary locally. University has around 1100 employees and an annual budget of approx 1 billion PKR. University also induces local expenditure to attract students and visitors who in turn spend money within the region. UoG is one of the largest universities with higher student enrollment, 18,000 in 2012, in Pakistan and its expenditure and employment scale is also very high, only in 6 years, as compared to other universities. Approximately, 2000 students are residing in the hostels and their monthly spending is contributing in the sales volume of the local vendors including the hotel industry, garments and shoes, bookshops, stationers, petrol stations, local traders, petrol stations and many more. Above all, the number of graduates passed out in the last few years is also a useful human capital and would directly play their role in the region and country’s overall income as there is a positive correlation between GDP and the human capital. For District Gujrat, it has another salient advantage of retaining the youth to the district and the amount of expenditures which they are supposed to spend in other districts for acquiring higher education. As the university is offering courses relevant to the region’s need thus it is going to help to stop ‘brain-drain’ after graduation, and this is going to boost the local business and economy. University is also engaged in research and innovation with a pool of PhD Faculty and research students; and in near future this will generate a much greater economic impact by applied research, commercialization of research and technology transfer collaborations with industry. Though the university is young but its spillover effect has started showing up healthy signs of development. Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation of the university has actively been working since 2011 and it has planned to achieve various objectives by establishing academia-industry linkages. Among the future plans of the university, the establishment of incubation center for generating ‘spin-off’ companies to induce entrepreneurial impetus in the society is worth mentioning. Collaboration with other national and international organizations like British Council, University of Oklahoma, PUM Netherlands, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), DICE Foundation USA, SMEDA and many others is also contributing in the development of the institute itself which ultimately is in the interest of the local community. Slowly but steadily UoG is establishing linkages with the local industry. UoG is also serving a positive role in the branding of the district and now because of the university, district Gujrat is considered quite familiar among national and international academic and other organizations.

Above and beyond, one may differ from many things but the role of university in the development of local community is undeniable and its greater benefits have yet to come to the surface. UoG is generating a significant economic, educational and social impact on the district Gujrat especially and other surrounding districts generally. However, it is important to understand that the educational and economic contribution of a university extends beyond simply being a regional employer and purchaser of goods and services and UoG as an organisation is at the growth stage and it has still great potential of expansion. In a knowledge economy, innovation and human capital are essential to economic growth and it is the high level of skills, research and innovation that will yield a significantly greater impact on Pakistan’s regional and national economy.

Nafisa Khan (20 February 1988 – 3 June 2013), also famous as Jiah Khan‏, was an American-born British Indian actress who appeared in Bollywoodfilms. She changed her name to Jiah Khan before making her debut in Nishabd in 2007, and then appeared in the 2008 film Ghajini. She made her third and last film appearance in Housefull in 2010. In 2012, she changed her name back to Nafisa Khan.
Jiah Khan allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on June 3 and police claim that the actress was heartbroken after a failed relationship with the son of an actor couple which possibly drove her to take the step at her home.

The body of Jiah, 25, was found hanging at her 'Sagar Sangeet' residence in Juhu at around 11 PM where she lived with mother and sister who were not present when she ended her life.

She tweeted a picture of her teenage days on August 17 last year and wrote: Already got a treat for u...a pic of me when I was 17! Do I look different?

When I started with a training certification of NLP i.e neuro Linguistic Programming, I had no clue what exactly it is? What kind of people am I going to come across? When approached the first day of session on 2nd October 2012, I was in a place with an amazing ambiance My first reaction to the day 1 of training session was God knows where have I come? Am I a part of this place? Questions were dancing in my head and suddenly a man wearing white shirt approached me. He said “ Hi!! I am life skills coach. Are you here for NLP training session? I said yes and moved forward my hand for a handshake”.

As long as I did not started with my certification, I had just done some Wikipedia about the topic and knew the names of Trainers. So in all I was blank but was on the journey of learning which left experiences that have their impressions on my mind now too. When I recall those days they become an anchor of happiness for me. And by 9.30 a.m almost everyone was on track and the train of NLP learning started with a first hooter by trainer. Passing of smiles among the members was like a natural phenomenon. That was a time when I realized, life is so pretty and charming where we live with a notion and even are conditioned to stay away from strangers, there we get some people in our lives who purposefully come to make us learn something.

Every journey has a lot of incredible and prodigious moments which can be captured in the camera of eyes in a beautiful way. It depends on how well you adjust the lens and confiscate those moments. Some people come to be “Light of someone’s life” while the other come to add a “spring to life”. The best fact about Training session I experienced is that the people from diversified backgrounds share one common platform where no one wants to judge you, no one wants to bug you, no one wants to make you feel that you know less than them. Keeping minds open is definitely valuable as you cannot judge a book by its cover. As it is said “Map Is not the territory”.

There came an instance when I got tears in my eyes feeling as if entire burden of World is on my head. I went to washroom and there I met a woman who was companion in the NLP training. She hold my hand and said me – dear!!! Life has a lot more to show. I have no clue what I understood out of this at that moment but I stopped sobbing. In all, I learned some words have a lot of impact and all we need to learn is to place the words correctly. People come to make you learn something and more you are open to learn ,more is :

Life is ready to show you.

Facebook's New NEWS-FEED

Goodbye Clutter, Facebook's New NEWS-FEED is coming soon. Facebook is about to revamp another facet of its network: the News Feed. The News Feed is coming under increasing scrutiny at the moment, after Facebook began selling paid promotional posts on people's feeds. The results haven't been too popular with regular users, and more than a few advertisers have been cowed by reams of critical comments from users who are sick of the spam. Almost 50 per cent of content is photos, and 25 per cent content per comes from public posts. Zuck said it's designed to give rich stories, with your choice of feed, and a mobile-inspired UI.

Julia Zhou takes over to explain, "They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in the old News Feed it's nearer 500. Now we're making photos bigger and more valuable, and revamping photo albums." Articles, too, are getting bigger images, a bigger title, and a longer summary. At the end of the day, the most-shared articles on topics will be made available, if they go along with your interests. You can also find out what events your friends have planned for the day. Chris Struhar, tech lead on the project, takes over. The new News Feed has been under development for a year at least, he says. Facebook spent a lot of time interviewing users and the result was that people want control of their pages.

Red Bull Takes Content Marketing

Red Bull is a publishing empire that also happens to sell a beverage. Lately, every conference PowerPoint on the future of advertising or PR seems to mention Red Bull as a — if not the— shining example of a brand-turned-publisher, what every future-leaning agency encourages its clients to emulate. Yet, no one seems to know exactly how Red Bull does it.

"The marketing strategy that has worked best for us is not to publish our strategies," says a Red Bull representative. Perhaps by painting around the edges of Red Bull's content machine, we can glimpse what's inside the can.

When we talk about "content marketing," we mean the creation of storytelling material that attracts readers, viewers and listeners to a brand.

Content marketing is not an ad on a billboard or a one-page spread in a magazine. It doesn't have to be a commercial on cable television or the 28 annoying seconds before the start of that next YouTube hit.

I feel lucky to have had the chance to join the International Visitor Leadership Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. IVLP is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program that connects current and emerging international leaders with their American counterparts. The theme of the program was “Entrepreneurship Advocacy”. The program was a designed brilliantly, implemented meticulously, and proved very inspiring. I have been immensely motivated to be a part of such grand endeavors. I am all praise for the wondrous treatment meted out to me by the Pakistani and Washington teams alike. It is such a beautiful fraternity that my unconscious desires have always been aspiring for.

The program was scheduled for Washington, D.C., Boston-Massachusetts, Las Vegas-Nevada, Kansas-Missouri and Atlanta-Georgia. Visiting each city was like entering a new country. It was amazing. It allows us to learn faster, reach farther, work better, dream bigger, and live longer. When you’re exposed to different ways of doing things, it changes the way you think. Special Thanks to US Consulate General Lahore for such a great opportunity.

The program seeks to build mutual understanding between the United States and people of other countries through carefully designed visits reflecting the visitor’s professional interests. The American embassy selects the participants from over 120 countries to meet with their professional counterparts, and to experience U.S. Politics, Society and Cultural firsthand.

The objective of the program was to examine how public policy influences entrepreneurship in the United States at the local, state and federal government levels; to analyze best practices in advocating for economic reforms that encourage business development and entrepreneurship; to explore business opportunities created by the use of new technologies and the expansion of the global marketplace; to meet with U.S. professional groups who promote entrepreneurship such as government leaders, Chambers of Commerce, entrepreneur-focused lobbying groups, NGOs and public-private partnerships; and to explore mentorship and venture capital funding opportunities with the Pakistani-American diaspora community.

The program was administered by “The Institute of International Education” from March 18 – April 5, 2013. IIE has organized different levels of meetings and briefings for our team. We really had interactive and informative meetings with diplomats, professors, Individuals, officials from State Department, NGO’s representatives. We had wonderful home hospitality and other social nights which offered us the platform to network with Americans.

I learnt a lot from the program with regards to entrepreneurship advocacy in US. I wish to thank and acknowledge US Department of State, for selecting me to be part of this international program.

I aim to contribute, connect and inspire the youth and will promote and spur entrepreneurship around the community.

Commercial Law Development Program-CLDP

We had an interesting meeting we had with Mr. Joe Yang (International Attorney-Advisor) for Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and Mr. David Nufrio (International Trade Specialist) Office of South Asia, International Trade Administration-U.S. Department of Commerce. We discussed further collaboration to promote entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

Capitol Hill

I visited the Capitol Building and enjoyed the experience! The staff within the main building were very

helpful and there’s a cloak room for your coats etc, which was great. The tour guide was a little ‘bossy’

However, I felt privileged be allowed into the Capitol...a super place!

Fortunately I got some free time and visited one of my favorite poets Kahlil Gibran Memorial Garden in

Washington DC. He has been my favorite poet/philosopher for over and I find his work, especially, “The

Prophet”, has helped shape my personal philosophy.

Attended an interesting lecture by Dr George Solomon, on public policy influences entrepreneurship in the United States at the local, state and federal government levels. Dr George Soloman is Co-Director, Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence-(CfEE) and Associate Professor of Management School of Business and Public Management at George Washington University.

White house

It was so cool to actually see and walk through parts of the White House I learned about as a child, like the Blue Room, Gold Room, etc. as well as the foyer where the President makes some of his TV appearances. Anyone who has the chance should make the time to tour the White House.

Botanic Garden

Went to U.S. Botanic Garden during winter. Beautiful, blooming tulips; exotic essences; ornamental orchids; fragrant florals -- all for free! A very well organized and Wonderful little green treasure.

Google Inc.

Visiting Google Headquarter was an amazing experience. We had a wonderful meeting with Bob Boorstin (Director of Public Policy) and Ben Blink (Policy Analyst) at Google Inc. and discussed best practices in advocating for economic reforms that encourage business development, entrepreneurship, business opportunities created by the use of new technologies and the expansion of the global marketplace.

U.S. House of Representatives

Our visit to U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business was another learning experience. We met with Mr. Andreas P. Karellas (Professional Staff Member) discussed the role of the Committee in devising legislation impacting small businesses, trade and entrepreneurship in the United States

Busboys and Poets

I really enjoyed the Busboys and Poets restaurant, bookstore, fair trade market. It’s a happening place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace. It was created by owner Anas “Andy” Shallal, an Iraqi-American artist, activist and restaurateur. The restaurant’s name refers to American poet Langston Hughes who worked as a busboy before he became a poet. WASHINGTON, DC TOUR

A special tour of Washington, DC was arranged by IIE which was led by Ms. Jeanne Fogel (President, A Tour de Force) which underline the concept of federalism in the United States while highlighting key historic and cultural sights of Washington, DC. Site visits includes the Washington Monument, the White House, the Supreme Court and the U.S. Capitol.

Invest2Innovate

Meeting with Ms. Kalsoom Lakhani (Founder and CEO-Invest2Innovate) was truly engaging at IIE. We discussed i2i’s strategies and how they support young entrepreneurs in untapped markets. i2i provides seed grants and hands-on support for social enterprises and innovative initiatives in their start-up stages, mainly in Pakistan.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

This museum is so exciting with all the planes, airships, missiles, pilots, astronauts, etc that has make flying so interesting for mankind. It takes you through the history of what mankind has achieved and also leaves you to think, that there is still so much more to explore out there. It is a great attraction for the kids, with the IMAX theaters a great attraction.
