Another Rainy Day

I'm sitting here by the window in my living room listening to rain fall outside. I have to get out and go to an audition this afternoon, but for now I'm perfectly content staying inside. I don't enjoy traipsing around the city in the rain. Really, any weather elements other than sunshine make this city dreadful to get around in. Add umbrellas and puddles to the already crowded sidewalks of NYC and getting from point A to point B becomes a dreadful experience.

I hope it's sunny where you are!

I'm a Proud Liberal

What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican Party? I’ll tell you what they did.

Liberals got women the right to vote.
Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote.
Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty.
Liberals ended segregation.
Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act.
Liberals created Medicare.
Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act.

What did Conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things, every one.

So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, ‘Liberal,’ as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won’t work, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.

-Lawrence O’Donnell Jr.

In fact, the Liberal party used to be the Republican Party. So...many of these wonderful things were the act of Republicans. How far things have changed, eh?

I don't follow sports at all, so the only reason I know of this man is because of the Sandusky scandal. While I'm all for mourning the loss of life, I have trouble wrapping my head around the way people are putting this man on a pedestal. The man DID NOTHING when he found out about Sandusky's molestation of young boys, essentially enabling the evil man to continue preying on children. All the news publications are reporting that this man's legacy outweighs his scandal. Excuse me?!? He may have done great things for sports, but to me this man is just as evil as Sandusky. I have to wonder if he would be looked at differently if he was turning a blind eye to the ongoing molestation of little girls. This is a sick sick fucking country.

The end of the discussion...

FB User Comment: First off, it thrills me you used the word marvelous to describe HRCs work... what an underused word that is, however I disagree. I don't see Hillary having a large role in a 2nd Obama term unless she is VP which I stated I'd support the ticket. I also see Obama and Romney on the same level. I wouldn't vote for Paul or Newt or Santorum and honestly I don't like anybody running so there is no need to go on and on, because defending the lesser of an evil is still defending evil. This is where I strongly disagree... If Obama has a another miserable 4 years there will be an anti democrat sentiment with voters yes Hillary will soar to the nomination, but 8 bad years of Obama is going to make her election harder. 4 bad years of Romney after 4 bad years of Obama will let Hillary will walk into the White House as people will see party doesn't matter we just need a Clinton and always did.

My Comment: I don't think Obama, if re-elected, will have another bad four years. I think it will be the four years when he comes out a gets all the 'controversial' human rights issues passed. I feel like he had to use the first four years to fix what he was given, a job that became even harder when Republicans took control of congress two years into his term.
He also had to play moderate for any hope of re-election. I truly believe that his 2nd term will see him do great things. What will he have to lose?
I also think he gets a lot of bad rap for his first term. He's only one man trying to pass alot of great policies, but his policies get/got stripped by Republicans making most a shadow of what they could've been. He's also done a number of truly great things. But, they tend to be forgotten while the public gets caught up in the onslaught of negative media blitzes from both sides of the political field.

FB User Comment: I guess that's an opinion, so lets say if he has a term equal to this term, with out the Hillary as SOS... You can say what you want about what he can pull off in his next term, but with all due respect I've heard this tune 4 years ago and I didn't buy it then either. So I will rephrase... If a majority of America is unsatisfied with the Presidents performance in 4 years as they are now I believe it will be that much harder for any Dem even Hillary to be elected in 2016.

My Comment: I guess that's part of the problem with our political system...and a good argument for why a viable third party would be good. The country is split in half, and every four or eight years the entire administration changes and tries to 'fix' what took place in the previous four or eight years, thereby keeping the current administration from getting anything productive done. It's all one or two steps forward and two or three steps backward. I would love to see the progress this country could make with about 12 years of socially liberal, moderately economic, peaceful world view, and forward thinking energy policies. I think we could restore this country to true greatness and leadership in the world again. Unfortunately, now it's too 1 sided from both parties. There's no middle ground on anything anymore. It's black or white, and to be a true leader....this country needs to see many shades of grey.

FB User Comment: that is all very true, but it's unlikely to change in 4 years.

It's like debating with a brick wall with some of these people.

I just don't get it...

This is a prime example of what I don't understand with people and politics.

Facebook Status Update: If Newt Gingrich were the GOP nominee I would gladly vote for Obama. Why is South Carolina putting Newt up in the polls? Romney all the way! What the hell. Iowa finally got it right this year, although I do not forgive them for 2008, but seriously SC. Why?

My Comment: If Hillary really is 'your girl', you should vote for Obama no matter what.

Other FB User Comment: Why? Hillary and Obama are two different people. The only way I'd vote Obama is if Hillary wereon the ticket. I'll likely vote Romney if it's Newt I'll write in Hillary. Obama cheated and stole her nomination when he wasn't up to the task. None of us are abliged to support or vote for him.

My Comment: Running and voting Republican because you're pissed off at Obama will only put Hillary that much further from President in the long run. She's doing marvelous work as Secretary of State, but if Republicans take over...where will Hillary's hand be? She will have no part of a Republican administration, then will have to work even harder in the future, and if she would be elected President in 2016, she's have 4 years of Republican mess to try to fix. 8 years of Bush politics ran our country into the ground. I don't think 'Obama cheated'...to my knowledge, he's not the entire DNC. Hillary is my favorite too, but running from the Democrats just because you're unhappy with the current President is a failed way of thinking in the long run. Of course, this is all my humble opinion.

I just don't understand why people who love Hillary Clinton would not vote for Obama in 2012. Whether or not you are happy with his Presidency or not, why on earth would you vote Republican? That only puts Hillary Clinton that much further out of the political field. People just have a very warped sense of sanity when it comes to the Republican Party. I seriously think they spike the ground water with brain washing chemicals. Ugh.

I went to MOMA tonight for the first time in my 11 years of living in NYC. It's pretty fantastic, and even better since from 4-8pm on Friday nights it's FREE! Target sponsors 4 hours of free admission for the public every week. It was amazing to see a museum crawling with people on a Friday night! This is a small portion of a huge painting that I loved.
