The construction of our home was partly funded by our university and by sponsor donations with each investing about 50% of the costs. The total dollar value for the parts of the home is $500,000. Of course, this does not include the cost of labor.

2) What is happening to the home after the competition? We are still investigating this. Green Machine / Blue Space may be brought back to our Old Westbury campus and used to instruct students about renewable energy.

3) What is so special about NYIT's energy system? Unlike the other schools in this competition that are storing their energy with batteries, we are storing our energy in the form of hydrogen. Our energy system allows us to use solar power to split water, capture and store hydrogen, and then later use that hydrogen to produce electricity via our hydrogen fuel cell.

Four more hours

Today is the final day of the Solar Decathlon competition. Currently NYIT is in 4th place, 55 points behind Cal Poly for third place and two points head of Virginia Tech.

For now the rain has stopped and it is partly cloudly outside.
