Resistant reason: Though many Americans are on a tight budget, people are generally willing to spend money on the big stuff, such as coverage for natural disasters, health-care expenses and automobile accidents. With so many people losing their jobs -- leaving them uninsured as a result -- insurance sales agents have a larger client pool to work with.
Training needed: You have to have a state license to sell insurance; requirements vary by state, but generally require insurance-related course work and passing several exams. A college degree is not required, but is strongly encouraged.

6. Pharmacy technician
Resistant reason: As the population ages, people probably will need more medication, as do the many people suffering from depression and anxiety as a result of the recession. Plus, many people have health-care coverage of some kind, even with the downturn, which makes it possible for people to continue to pay for medications.
Training needed: Most are trained on the job, but employers prefer applicants who have formal training, certification or previous experience.

7. Funeral director
Resistant reason: Death is a fact of life. No matter what the economy does, people will continue to pass away and families will continue to grieve while seeking assistance to plan services for their loved ones.
Training needed: Every state requires that funeral directors are licensed. State licensing laws vary, but most require you to be 21 years old, have two years of formal education, serve a one-year apprenticeship and pass an examination.

8. Environmental science technician
Resistant reason: The Obama administration plans to create 5 million "green" jobs over the next 10 years. Despite a slowing economy, a large percentage of the U.S. work force continues to dedicate itself to the environment.
Training needed: Most environmental science technicians need an associate degree or certificate in applied science or science-related technology. Technicians with a high school diploma and no college degree typically begin work under the direct supervision of an experienced technician and eventually earn a two-year degree in science technology.

9. Network systems and data communications analyst
Resistant reason: Many technology-based positions can be performed by outsourcing, but certain technology workers, such as network systems and data communications analysts, must deal with problems onsite.

Son el descanso de la rutina diaria que esperamos con ansias todo el año, ya sea en verano, en invierno o en un esporádico fin de semana largo. Después de todo y aunque te guste tu trabajo, ¿acaso no todos merecen unos cuantos días libres?

Una encuesta anual de CareerBuilder.com demostró que un 25% de los trabajadores declaró que tenían planeado seguir en contacto con el trabajo durante sus vacaciones Un 9% indicó que sus jefes esperan que trabajen o revisen su buzón de voz o correo electrónico durante las vacaciones. Un 50% de los trabajadores del área de ventas planeaba llamar al trabajo durante las vacaciones, mientras los trabajadores del área de TI y los trabajadores de servicios financieros planeaban hacer lo mismo, lo que representa un 37% para cada área.

Para escaparse del yugo del trabajo y evitar el estrés que producen las vacaciones, un 7% de los trabajadores incluso le mintió a sus empleadores sobre su disponibilidad y les han dicho que no es posible localizarlos mientras están de vacaciones.

Desafortunadamente, no todos pueden librarse de trabajar en vacaciones. Un 15% de los trabajadores ha tenido que renunciar a sus vacaciones del último año porque no pudieron encontrar el momento adecuado para hacerlo. Un 9% de los trabajadores renunció a 4 o más días de vacaciones.

1. No mantengas tus vacaciones en secreto. Aunque es probable que hayas mencionado tus vacaciones una vez hace pocos meses atrás, no esperes que todos se acuerden. Mientras te preparas para el viaje, asegúrate de recordarles a las personas adecuadas que estarás ausente.

2. Elabora un diario. Una parte de preparar tu viaje es asegurarte de que las personas que desarrollen tu trabajo no tengan contratiempos durante tu ausencia. En un diario, anota tus actividades y responsabilidades diarias para que las personas encargadas de reemplazarte sepan qué esperar y cómo encargarse de las tareas que se le presentan.

Mientras más tiempo dejes entre el proyecto y tus vacaciones, será mejor para ti. No quieres estresarte si el proyecto se retrasa o si requiere más trabajo del previsto.

4. Sé disciplinado. Si tienes un trabajo en el que definitivamente tienes que trabajar o al menos llamar a tu empleador, designa un breve periodo de tiempo para estas tareas. Tus amigos o familiares con los que pasas tus vacaciones no desean compartir su relajante viaje con tu computadora portátil y teléfono celular, así que reduce tu trabajo al mínimo.

5. Sé un ejemplo. Si eres el jefe, sé un ejemplo para tu equipo y sal de vacaciones dejando atrás los asuntos de trabajo. Si otros ven que eres capaz de separar el trabajo de tu vida personal, tendrán una mejor actitud y serán capaces de seguir tu ejemplo.

There are still jobs out there you just have to know where to look.

We dug deep into Bureau of Labor Statistics data to find industries that are still adding jobs despite a rising national unemployment rate.

Health care
With a large segment of the population entering retirement age, health care remains strong adding more than 254,000 jobs so far this year. All sectors of the health-care industry experienced growth from January to August 2008. Ambulatory health-care services (which include doctor's offices, outpatient care centers and home health services) experienced a gain of 117,100 jobs. Hospitals added 92,700 positions, while nursing and residential care facilities grew by 19,600 jobs. Additionally, social assistance (like substance abuse and mental health counseling) added 24,000 jobs. Indeed, 30 percent of large health-care employers (50 or more employees) expected to expand staffs in the third quarter of 2008, according to CareerBuilder.com and USA Today's "Q3 2008 Job Forecast."

Leisure and hospitality
While pocketbooks are hurting and experts everywhere are telling us to cut back on unneeded extras like daily lattes and eating meals out, we still love our take-out and it shows. While the overall leisure and hospitality industry is experiencing a decline (no doubt from said cutbacks on leisure activities), there were a couple of bright spots. Food services and drinking places added more than 57,000 workers so far this year, while performing arts and spectator sports added almost 8,600 workers. And 26 percent of hospitality employers expected to expand staffs in the third quarter of this year, according to the "Q3 2008 Job Forecast." Our analysis? We'll forego vacation -- as seen in the employment decline at accommodations, museums, historical sites and zoos -- but we can't let go of our pizza or baseball just yet.

Bottom line: Despite the lagging economy, there are jobs available across all categories, whether from industry growth, skilled worker shortages or turnover. You just need to know where to look and prepare for a longer job hunt.
