In addition, we are seeking professionals such as licensed massage therapists (must have own massage chair), licensed manicurists (must have own manicure table) and make-up artists to offer complimentary and low cost pampering and grooming services for men & women such as mini-makeovers and mini-manicures. Texas Tech lands its newest coordinator

Texas Tech has hired Art Kaufman as its fourth defensive coordinator in four years.

Kaufman comes to Lubbock from North Carolina, and is a 28-year veteran in college coaching.

“I looked at a lot of candidates for this job but when it came down to it, I turned to a guy that I knew could get the job done,” coach Tommy Tuberville said. “Art is one of the best defensive coaches in the business and that is obvious when you take a look at the product he has put out on the field over the years.

What we learned in the ACC: Bowl edition

Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. Not here in the ACC blog. We like the cold, hard truth. And this time, it hurts. Here’s a look at what we learned during bowl season:

1. The ACC hit rock bottom. As David Teel of the Daily Press put it, if a 2-6 bowl record punctuated by Clemson’s disaster in the Discover Orange Bowl isn’t rock bottom for the ACC, then “the conference is in serious trouble.” This bowl season was an embarrassing finish for the ACC, as it was the league’s fifth straight losing postseason.

What did we learn from the Pac-12 bowl games? Glad you asked.

Oregon, it turns out, can win the big one: Some folks might not want to admit this, but it’s a load off the backs of the Pac-12 as well as Oregon that the Ducks broke through with a win over a very good Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl. The Ducks, whether you like it or not, have been carrying the conference flag for three consecutive years, and their losing consecutive BCS bowl games hurt the conference’s image, just as it prevented Oregon from being perceived as a legit superpower.

Clemson’s Ellington to return for senior year

Clemson running back Andre Ellington will return for his senior year, the school announced Tuesday night. Ellington was Clemson’s leading rusher in 2011 with 1,178 yards, the eighth-best single-season total in school history. Ellington told his teammates his decision at a team meeting on Tuesday night.

“Last year’s success has me excited to enter the 2012 season as a Clemson Tiger,” Ellington said in a prepared statement.

And his return should have Clemson fans excited about 2012.

What we learned from ND’s bowl season

Notre Dame’s 2011 season has been over for nearly two full weeks, but things haven’t exactly been quiet in South Bend, Ind. Here’s what has gone down in the young offseason.

1. Tyler Eifert is back. This is the best news for Notre Dame in the wake of its 18-14 Champs Sports Bowl loss to Florida State. Eifert was the Irish’s second-leading receiver in 2011, will be the key to the passing attack next season and joins linebacker Manti Te’o in passing on a potentially high NFL draft selection to return to Notre Dame for his senior season.

Run from zombies and take on obstacles this March in Atlanta!

Atlanta has been called the zombie capital of the world. From the hit show, The Walking Dead, to the cult hit movie, Zombieland, both filmed in Atlanta, zombies have been a major creature feature throughout the city and around The Oaks of Briarcliff Apartments. Now residents and other Atlantans can thwart trained ‘zombies’ in a 5K coming to the city in March; Run For Your Lives.

This zombie infested obstacle course is a journey filled with twists and turns, natural obstacles like water and mud. Climb, duck and dodge the undead too. If you do not finish the race or your flags are pulled off by the zombie participants, your time will be posted as “zombie” and you won’t be eligible for awards.

This is a great race to do with your friends. Sign up as soon as you can because registration closes February 10! The course will be located at the Durhamtown Plantation Sports Complex, in Union Point, Georgia. Check out the site further for more information. Remember, if you choose not to run, you could always volunteer to be one of the undead!
