Oasis Coventry gig

www.gigwise.com - Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has admitted he was left angry after his brother, Liam, told fans to stop clapping at a recent gig in Coventry.

Liam was booed when he asked fans at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday (July 7) to “get your hands down”, adding: “This is Oasis, not f***ing Simply Minds.”

Appearing on BBC Radio 1 this morning, Noel said he found his brother's comments “hilarious but quite undignified”.

“I was quite angry about it later - in the middle of 'Shock of the Lightning', 50,000 people have got their hands in the air and he starts shouting at them to stop clapping,” Noel said.

"I was thinking, 'That's nice - you pay 70 quid for a ticket to be told what to do by the singer'.”

Adopted a joking manner, the guitarist added: "You! Stop enjoying yourself - no clapping in between these songs."

Oasis' gig in Coventry formed part of their UK stadium tour, which arrives this weekend at London's Wembley Stadium.

The three concerts will mark Oasis' first return to the venue since they became the last British band to play at the old Wembley.

Posted on Friday, 10/07/2009 06:22 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Oasis hire ex-SAS security

www.mirror.co.uk - Oasis, those self-styled hardmen of rock, have had to call in the big boys to fight their battles for them.

The Manchester band have clearly realised that being gobby is not enough to keep away any scally undesirables - so they have got some ex-SAS heavies to beef up their security.

The move was initiated by Noel Gallagher, who was assaulted on stage in Canada last year.

He fell very badly, landing on top of a monitor speaker and cracking several ribs.

So Noel, 42, didn't want a repeat performance when Oasis play at Wembley tonight, Saturday and Sunday. A pal of the band tells us: "Noel was seriously shook up after he was attacked. It was a freak moment when someone burst through and managed to get on stage. But he wanted to make sure he never had to go through that again.

"Despite his big mouth, he's only a small fella.

"There was a time when he was genuinely scared of getting back out there and performing.

"It was only fleeting but he couldn't get the image out of his head of what had happened.

"He was drugged up on painkillers and kept dreaming about the night. So he told Liam and the others that he wanted extra security. And, of course, they agreed - after all it could have been any of them.

"When he heard that a couple of the lads brought in to try out as security were ex-SAS, he knew he was in safe hands.

"They left the service a while ago. But their killer training never leaves them."

Oasis aren't the only celebs to call in the SAS. Last year, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe used the tough minders to protect him after he received death threats from a stalker.

Last night, a spokesperson for Oasis said the band do not comment on security issues.

Posted on Friday, 10/07/2009 06:04 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Noel's tribute to The Specials

coventrytelegraph.ne - OASIS' Noel Gallagher paid tribute to Coventry's 2-Tone legends The Specials at the Ricoh Arena last night.

The Manchester super group - along with Cov Kids The Enemy - performed in front of 40,000 fans yesterday as they completed the Coventry leg of their UK tour.

Noel went backstage with the reformed band earlier this year when the Ghost Town group enjoyed a historic homecoming gig at the Jaguar hall.

And the Oasis legend told last night's sell-out crowd his thoughts on the legendary 2-Tone act.

Posted on Thursday, 09/07/2009 06:43 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Noel compares MJ to Jade Goody

www.festivalwise.com - Noel Gallagher has taken a a cheeky swipe at the intense media interest surrounding Michael Jackson's death saying it's “dragging on a bit”.

The guitarist even compared Jackson to the late Jade Goody in the 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' blog on Oasis' official website.

Speaking ahead of their performance at Coventry's Ricoh Arena and the day of Michael Jackson's memorial service, Noel said: “This Mike Jackson thing's dragging on a bit, innit? Who do they think he is, Jade Goody?

“Listen out for the dedication tonight. There's bound to be one. If it's during Live Forever I may do a little poo-poo... then vomit.”

Gigwise was at the show and Noel must have been struck with a sudden bout of amnesia as he didn't mention Jackson's name once.

Posted on Thursday, 09/07/2009 06:41 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Oasis Coventry gig review

coventrytelegraph.ne - INDIE super group Oasis produced one of the greatest rock shows that Coventry has ever seen last night.

Almost 40,000 people packed into the Ricoh Arena to see the Manchester act - along with Cov Kids The Enemy.

And neither act disappointed - despite the miserable weather which soaked the majority of the crowd before the music had even begun.

For all the pictures from the event, click here...

Opening up with the classic Rock 'n' Roll star, singer Liam Gallagher prowled the stage with menacing intent early on, pacing in front of the fever-pitch crowd like a caged animal.

He wasted no time in introducing himself to the crowd in his own - and somewhat unorthodox - style.

"I can see some people with their hands up, clapping," Gallagher announced to the crowd, "Get your hands down. This is Oasis - not f***ing Simple Minds."

But he went further. Moments later Liam said: "I'd like to dedicate this next track to the real Sky Blues. MCFC."

Oh dear. That certainly got a response. A cascade of boos greeted his words quickly followed out by deafening choruses of "Who are ya?".

Despite being an Evertonian, I was tempted to throw my tickets away. But I didn't. Adopted city loyalty only runs so deep after all.

Of course, they are mighty Oasis - and promptly delivered a stunning rendition of Cigarettes and Alcohol to drown out any discord. Fantastic.

His brother Noel - as one may expect - opted for a different tack. He thanked the crowd for coming to see the band before dedicating a track - to himself.

"I'm going to dedicate this track to myself because I f***ing brilliant, I am," he smirked.

Fair enough. The band played a mixture of old and new material including the B-side The Masterplan and the Definitely Maybe classics like Supersonic and Live Forever.

Earlier in the night, The Enemy had proved their sound can be transferred onto the big stages with aplomb delivering a polished performance with Tom Clarke proving every bit the showman.

Armed with Coventry City FC shirts and flags, the Enemy certainly love a home-coming gig. Lads, we've missed you.

But the night really belonged to Oasis, who proved you really don't need giant mechanical elephants to put on a great show.

Although the people who wrote the wording on the giant screens may want to think about resitting their English GCSE again. Oh dear. Buses is not the hardest word to spell.

Noel dedicated B-side anthem Half the World Away to Tom Clarke and the boys - the opening lines "I would like to leave this city, this whole town don't smell too pretty" providing a cheeky pop at the Enemy's home town.

Rounding off the evening with the likes of Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova and I am the Walrus, it truly was a special evening.

And, after the final chords, Liam swaggered off without a second glance while Noel stayed behind, after the remainder of the band had departed, to clap the crowd.

Posted on Thursday, 09/07/2009 06:37 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Oasis vs Blur

www.live4ever.us - Oasis have won the long-term Britpop battle with Blur, PRS For Music has claimed

The organisation that collects royalties for songwriters, say their figures suggest despite Damon Albarn and co beating the Gallaghers to the UK Number One single spot in August 1995 – when 'Country House' outsold 'Roll With It' after they were released on the same day – it's the northern band who have enjoyed the most exposure since.

Based on PRS' research, Oasis have been listened to more than Blur over the last 14 years when both band's total listens are compared head-to-head.

As a percentage of both groups' combined total plays, the following songs have proved the most popular:

Oasis – 'Wonderwall', 68%
Oasis – 'Roll With It', 12%
Blur – 'Country House', 10%
Oasis – 'Some Might Say', 7%
Blur – 'Beetlebum', 3%

“With Blur performing some storming gigs and Oasis' back on tour it’s like the heyday of Britpop once again," explained Steve Porter, Chief Executive PRS For Music. "These new figures showing that despite Blur winning the original battle, Oasis wins long-term by number of plays. However with both bands still working and their music being widely played the battle continues.”

Posted on Thursday, 09/07/2009 06:30 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Live Forever
Don't Look Back In Anger
Falling Down
Champagne Supernova
I Am The Walrus

---------------

Oasis - the bad boys of rock - swaggered onto stage in front of thousands of diehard fans at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena last night.

A storming crowd of 38,000 waved their hands in the air as they welcomed Oasis to the packed out city stadium.

Revellers chanted their loud and rowdy anthems, including Cigarettes and Alcohol, Roll With It and Wonderwall.

Liam rattled his tambourine and brother Noel raised his guitar as they played Rock ‘n’ Roll Star to an ocean of fans.

They were supported by the city’s most successful rock band, The Enemy, who excited crowds as they belted out tracks like It’s Not OK and This Song.

Oasis, who have already played in their home city of Manchester last month, shot to fame in the 90s selling more than 60 million albums across the world.

It was the only Midlands date on the tour of the UK and was the fastest selling gig in the Ricoh’s history with 20,000 tickets snapped up within its first two hours of sales.

John Corden, aged 62, of Bulkington, in Bedworth, was joined by his nephew David, aged 21.

He praised the band’s rebellious antics on stage. “They’re brilliant. I’ve listened to them for years. They’ve still got it – they’re still selling records and filling stadiums.

“Their arrogance is their appeal and the confidence in their own ability is what makes them great. A lot of bands have it but these guys are very cool about it.

“I came to see The Enemy as much as I did for Oasis – it’s good that we can celebrate two of our favourite bands in one place really.”

Susan Dixon, aged 41, was with her son, Glen, aged 24, and daughter, Toni, aged 19.

Glen said: “It’s was an electric atmosphere. I absolutely love Oasis – it’s makes a change for them to be in the city.

"My favourite tracks of all time is Champagne Supernova – it’s a quality song and sounds even better live.

They’re a great band.”

Electrician John Cave, aged 26, of Rugby, and his close friends are dedicated fans who grew up listening to the band since they were young.

He said: “I followed them since I was 11 years old and I’ve never seen them before. I’ve seen lost of other music groups but they don’t compare to Oasis.”

His best mate, Joe Flanagan, aged 24, said: “I saw them in Heaton and they were great. They are the best band ever because with every song it holds a memory.

“They define a generation - that’s why they’re so popular.

"They triumph in Britain and I finally got to see them in Coventry. It was the best show that I’ve seen them play.”

Chief executive of the Ricoh, Daniel Gidney said: “This was fantastic for us. They are one of the biggest bands in British history.

“We capable of catering for different tastes. Oasis are a modern rock band and we were delighted to have them at the Ricoh.

“The profile of the event was clearly different to other concerts we’ve held.

"There are more blokes drinking beer but we had more stewards on site.”

Oasis are set to play at the Wembley Stadium tomorrow, July 10 and 12.

Noel on Nolan Sisters tour?

www.nme.com - Oasis singer prompts guest spot speculation
Liam Gallagher has had a pop at brother Noel Gallagher, claiming the guitarist is joining The Nolan Sisters.

The Oasis singer made the joke via his Twitter.

"Just heard through the grapevine that Noely G is playing guitar on The Nolan Sisters' comeback tour," wrote the younger Gallagher. "...B Jeezus..."

Although clearly in jest, the posting has triggered speculation that Oasis' guitarist is on the verge of announcing a guest appearance with a more appropriate act.

Oasis, meanwhile, are set to play three nights at Wembley Stadium in London this week (July 9, 11 and 12).

Posted on Monday, 06/07/2009 13:12 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Noel needs another band?

independent.co.uk - Songwriter reveals he wouldn't mind moonlighting with someone other than Oasis

Wanted: amazingly talented guitarist with GSOH is looking for a band for gigs, albums, but no charity work.

Fans who were dismayed this year when Noel Gallagher vowed not to release another Oasis album for five years should prepare themselves for some more bad news.

The Oasis guitarist has told an Italian newspaper that he would like to join another band, "play the guitar and not have to worry about singing or writing songs". He also reckons he spent £1m on drugs during the first few years of the band's success, and doesn't regret a penny. He stopped in 1998 apparently because "it is bad for your health, brain, life and people around you".

And contrary to what he recently told a British newspaper, he does not want to record a solo album, and it might well be longer than five years before Oasis head back into the studio.

Neither age nor fatherhood seems to have mellowed the 42-year-old, who appears to have been on top form when he was interviewed by Corriere della Sera.

The Oasis guitarist labelled his old foe Chris Martin, from the band Coldplay, a clean-living "idiot" and slated him, and the U2 front man Bono for mixing rock and roll with politics.

"I look at Chris Martin, who says he has never taken drugs in his life, and I think he's an idiot. Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band," said Gallagher.

Never one to shy away from controversy, he had plenty to say about the upsurge in poverty concerts. "At a U2 or Coldplay concert there is always a message about poor people or people dying of hunger. OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"

The songwriter has not lost his way with words but is clearly struggling to find the satisfaction he felt in the band's early years. Critics would argue that he and the band have also struggled musically and have failed to come anywhere near the creative highs of their first two albums Definitely Maybe in 1994 and (What's the Story) Morning Glory in 1995.

Asked about the reported five-year break for Oasis, he said: "[Five] was just a number. I could have said 10, but Oasis won't break up. It's just that at the moment I can't see what more we can do. Bigger tours? More money? I need something different to maintain my interest... My ideal would be to join another band."

Formerly one of New Labour's most famous supporters – he drank champagne and talked guitars with Tony Blair – he said that he was disillusioned with politics and there were unlikely to be more nights out at No 10. He no longer votes.

"As time passed they [New Labour] became like the others. It was like you find out Father Christmas doesn't exist."

Posted on Saturday, 04/07/2009 23:25 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Noel 's £1m Drug Spree

www.live4ever.us - Oasis star Noel Gallagher has spent an amazing £1m on drugs and enjoyed every minute of it, he told an Italian newspaper.

The 42-year-old also labelled Chris Martin from Coldplay an ''idiot'' after he claimed not to have taken drugs and slammed the rival band and U2 for using concerts as stages for "'rock politics".

At the peak of the Britpop era, Noel and brother Liam's hedonistic excesses were well known and their partying was legendary.

Gallagher once revealed he had taken cocaine at a Downing Street reception in a toilet reserved for the Queen.

In his interview with Corriere Della Sera, he said: "I look at Chris Martin who says he has never taken drugs in his life and I think he is an idiot.

"Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band.

"Up until 1998 I must have spent £1m on drugs then I stopped because it is bad for your health, brain, life and for people around you.

"But while you use them - except for heroin which kills people and which I have never tried - as you lot (Italians) would say 'Mamma Mia'."

Turning to bands who used concerts to get across a political message, Gallagher stormed: "We get on the stage and play.

"I have been to loads of concerts where bands don't play they just talk about politics.

"At a U2 or Coldplay concert there is always a message about poor people or people dying from hunger.

"OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"

Gallagher - who with the rest of Oasis met Tony Blair several times at the height of their fame - also spoke of his own political views and said: "I grew up with Labour in opposition.

"I heard their policies on education and minimum wages and I thought they were right.

"Then they got into government and wow, I got to know them.

"Then as time passed they became like all the others - it was like when you find out Father Christmas doesn't exist.

"I don't vote any more - anyway it doesn't matter as nothing will change."

Oasis are due to play three concerts at Wembley Stadium this week and will end their current tour in Milan on August 30.

Posted on Saturday, 04/07/2009 23:21 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments

Noel: Lily Allen is a good kid

www.digitalspy.co.uk - Noel Gallagher has praised Lily Allen after she played before Oasis at the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium.

The guitarist wrote on his official blog that he had a "brilliant" night entertaining a "great big, big crowd" of 70,000 people.

Gallagher said: "Lily Allen was on our stage. I haven't seen her in a while. I've known Lil' since she was a kid.

"Her old fella [Keith] used to bring her round to that Supernova Heights gaff of mine in the '90s. A good kid. Works hard, plays hard."

Noel on Stoneroses

www.live4ever.us - 'They Have Achieved Mythical Status"

Timing is everything in music; The Stone Roses album came out bang on midday on the right day in right year in the right decade- unbelievable timing. When it came out I just thought "at last!" We used to go and see them all the time and I thought "I want that set list recorded as a record so I can play it at home". So it was kind of a relief- it was so long in the making - we'd been waiting five years for it!

Obviously it's their finest ever moment. If I only recorded two albums and one of them was this debut album, I would be f***ing pleased with that.

The whole album is so well executed. It's the exact expression of what that group was about. It was so f***ing on the money that it could have been recorded tomorrow morning.

If you want to know what British pop music sounded like in 1989 then put that album on and if you want to know what great classic British pop music is all about in the bigger picture, you should put it on as well- it's an amazing feat to capture the time of the late 80s and then 20 years later you can still put it on and it still sounds right. It still says what's great about British music.

Musically its painting pictures from a time, and I don't just mean 1989- it also harks back to the 60's that I am obsessed with, yet still without being retro.

They could have only come from Manchester. The attitude and the swagger is one thing, the clothes is another, but to make music that is so of its f***ing time, but that is also timeless could only happen in Manchester - it just doesn't really happen anywhere else. This album, and the band, have achieved mythical status. They inspired us.

Posted on Friday, 03/07/2009 23:18 by DaVincentCode | 0 Comments | Submit Comments
