Want to make 29 scrapbooking layouts in 29 days?

Me, too!

Ironically for someone whose blog is called "Obsessed with Scrapbooking", I am woefully behind on actually scrapbooking. In fact, I just realized that I'm coming up on a year since I went on the Cricut Cruise and I haven't scrapbooked one photo. Sure, I printed them. And that's where it stopped.

I've been hearing rave reviews about Lain Ehmann's Layout A Day Classes on 2peas and thought now was the time to get scrapbooking. My goal is to complete my cruise and summer vacation albums.

So, I signed up for Lain Ehmann's Past Perfect, a Layout a Day event. It comes with the following:

New Cricut Infomercial

I don't know about you, but I always get the best ideas from the Cricut infomercials. They have just finished up the latest infomercial, featuring the Cricut Mini.

Glenda, a fellow wonderful blogger and crafter, is in the new infomercial and has a whole write up on what the film shoot was like. It's really fun to read about all the details! You can check out Glenda's story about the infomercial HERE! And, she provided the video of the infomercial! So, head over to her site HERE!

An aside: Once, when the insect sprayman was at the house, he went up to the craft room and saw the Cricut Expression. Next thing I know, he is pumping me for information. Appparently, he loved watching the infomercial (must have suffered from insomnia) and wanted to know all about it. It cracked me up!

Three of my projects made it onto the infomercial. I didn't even know that was happening...I'm pretty excited about that.

Also, today is my husband's birthday - Happy Birthday, Brian! I love you!

Check out the projects below that I made using the Art Philosophy cartridge. They are some of my favorites:

Leaves and "thanks" sentiment are some of the matching stamped images that come with the cartridge.

The "4" and "you" fonts, as well as the flower and swirls and shaped card are also on this cartridge.

I love those jumbled numbers and the funky layered flower on the cartridge.

There are holiday shapes (trees and flowered vines) and coordinating stamps also. Again, you can see the "Joy" as a sample of one of the fonts and two of the other shapes from the cartridge (behind Joy and the journaling block).

I love the 3-d flowers on this cartridge - gorgeous! The swirls behind the flower are also on the cartridge, as well as the shapes behind "express yourself".

These funky cards are just perfect for the Imagine machine. Very unusual designs and sentiments! And check out the papers that come with it - in careful quantities, they could make a very fun, modern page.

8) Cricut Letter Envy Font Cartridge (CIRCLE EXCLUSIVE):

This cartridge has multi-layered fonts on it. Use some of the layers or all of them to create funky monograms, titles and more.

9) Cricut Type Candy Font Cartridge:

I like the cursive choices on this cartridge - lots of great fonts here (below is just a small sample).

10) Cricut Ole Cartridge:

A whole 50 word art images with Spanish words like Feliz Cumpleanos, Feliz Navidad, etc. make this the first cartridge to branch out into Spanish language sentiments. Plus, it's got a super cute layered font and those fun Southwestern/Mexican themed images. This is one of my favorites of this release.

Best Elegant Cricut Cartridge of 2011

Provocraft released many elegant, beautiful cartridges in 2011. In fact, it's probably the hardest category to pin down for me as I just loved all of these. Take a look below:

How to Export Files to the Gypsy in Cricut Craft Room

Below is a video showing how to export a file you made in the Cricut Craft Room onto your computer and Gypsy.

Why would you want to do this?

1) To save your file off line.
2) To be able to use your file on your Gypsy for on-the-go cutting at a crop. The Cricut Craft Room requires an internet connection and sometimes crop areas do not have that. This way, you could do your designing at home, on the nice big computer screen, and then save it onto your Gypsy for when you went to a crop.

How to Hide Selected Contour in Cricut Craft Room

I made a quick video to show how to "hide selected contour" in the Cricut Craft Room.

What is "hide selected contour" and why do I need to know how to do it?

Well, in the photo above, you can see solid black lines on the body of the doll and the eyes. These represent cut lines. What if you wanted to get rid of the eyes so you could use a cute face stamp? The video below will show you how to do that. The image above is from Once Upon A Princess and without using "hide selected contour", you would be stuck with those eyes since there is no blackout feature.

How to Put Cricut Handbooks on your new iPad and/or iPhone

I'm thinking a lot of people must have gotten iPads and iPhones for Christmas and may want to load their Cricut handbooks. I have them on my iPad and I love to just scroll through the handbooks while I watch TV.

If you have an iPhone, iTouch or iPad, here's how:

1) Go to the App Store/iTunes and purchase Goodreader ($4.99 - see HERE) OR you can use the iBooks app (free) BUT the instructions are different for loading the manuals. I will have to work on that and come back and put those instructions up.
2) Download it onto your device.
3) Open app.
4) Go to "Web Downloads"
5) Open "Browse the Web"
6) Enter this address: http://www.cricut.com/information/cartridge_library.aspx
7) Find each cartridge you want and click on "view" under the handbook column
8) Click and download each one (it can do more than one at a time). For the iPad, at the prompt, click on "Download Linked File". If you are prompted to see if you want directions, click "No".

Once you have downloaded all the cartridges you want, click on the "My Documents" folder at the start page of Goodreader.

Now, to organize them:

1) Click on My Documents and then hit the "Actions" button OR the "Manage Files" button (if on the iPad).
2) Click on button that says "New Folder" and name your folder "Cricut Handbooks". Then hit "Done".
3) Click on the actions button and you will now see some buttons/circles in front of each of your downloads. Click on those.
4) Then hit the "Cut" or "Cut/Move" button and Done.
5) Now, click on your Cricut Handbook folder and hit "actions". Then click on "paste".
Now they should all be in your folder. WOO HOO!

To see the handbooks in landscape view, go to settings on Goodreader and click on the Settings then General Settings then click on for "allow auto rotations" then click done twice to exit. For the iPad, it seemed to automatically be in landscape mode since I was already viewing things that way.

You could also download the Gypsy manual.

What's great, especially with the iPad, is that you can zoom in on the images - it really helps with some of the trickier cartridges with small little layers.

Hello Thursday - Cricut Victorian Romance, Notebook Doodles, Good Old Days,This 'n That

Here are the latest Hello Thursday Cricut cartridge releases for this month! I have projects with all of them coming up this next week.

1) Victorian Romance - This has got to be my favorite of the release - it's so cute and elegant at the same time!

First off, a project using the new Teresa Collins Cricut Christmas Sentiments package, shown below and available as a Cricut Craft Room exclusive for $9.99 - that's only $1.66 per layered image. Note this is digital, there is no actual cartridge:

I loved the "Merry Christmas" with the snowflakes and decided to make a vinyl saying for the back of my car.

Now, you should know upfront that this is NOT a project for the perfectionist! It is very tricky to get the layers lined up at this size.

I started by using the 12"x24" mat, rotating the image and sizing both layers to fit on one mat. Don't worry - I'll have the file available below in both Cricut Craft Room and Gypsy types. Using white and blue vinyl, and settings of blade, speed and pressure all at 3, I cut the word art out. Then, I peeled off the large vinyl sections I wouldn't need (shown above).

From there, I had to weed out all the bitty parts so I got the result you see above.

I then laid the Cricut Transfer Tape over the white layer and burnished it.

I peeled the backing off in the manner shown above. Do it this way as it is MUCH easier to manage.

I layered the white onto the blue and had a few difficulties as you can see above. (It's all real here...no secrets...). I pressed on anyway since I figured from a distance you couldn't see the wrinkled sections.

It all fades away from a distance. And since this isn't permanent, I decided not to stress about it and give you the "real, uncut, unedited, this-is-life" project...

Norb Vonnegut and Coupons for Joann, Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby for week of Dec. 11 - Dec. 17, 2011

Where have I been? What have I been up to? Before we get onto the coupons, here's a quick summary of what's new.

Well, it's only one more week of school for my kids and so we have been working hard on projects, studying and getting ready for semester exams. It's been crazy busy. I am really looking forward to next Friday when school gets out - it's like a school holiday for me also!

I've also been reading a lot lately. I had the pleasure of meeting Norb Vonnegut (distant relative to Kurt Vonnegut) recently when he asked my husband and I to come to a dinner gathering he was hosting. He and his sister were such delightful and gracious hosts and the meal was out of this world delicious. This past summer, my husband met him at Thriller Fest, a conference for Thriller writers.

Norb Vonnegut has written three books, The Gods of Greenwich and Top Producer with his newest book, The Trust, coming out in May 2012. I loved his book, The Gods of Greenwich! It's a thriller novel about hedge funding and the fund that always paid out (Bernie Madoff anyone?). What's clever is how the hedge fund manager got those returns. Unlike Madoff, they were real returns.

Here's a description that sums it up perfectly:

"The black comedy of life in the fast lanes of high level finance powers a wonderful new thriller by Norb Vonnegut, The Gods of Greenwich, set in the poshest reaches of Connecticut and Manhattan...

If you are into thrillers like John Grisham, this book is similar and a lot of fun with a twist that you didn't see coming - very unusual and not predictable at all.

My husband Brian is working on getting his own thriller novel, Fury, published. I can't wait to tell you the details of all that as it unfolds. So far, it's been very exciting.
