When you live in Vegas you do everything you can to stay cool and dry. Finding the right antiperspirant/deodorant becomes a major priority. Following the directions, I applied at bedtime after bathing. What did I think? Well, it had a nice texture that applied smoothly and seemed to absorb more quickly than a lot of cream deodorants do. The first night I used the original clean scent which I have to say I was not overly fond of. It had a floral note which did not appeal to me and the scent did linger for a surprising amount of time compared to most deodorants. I was, however, very happy the next morning when, after playing ball with my dogs in the hot sun for more than an hour I was still smelling fresh and my underarms were the only part of me not sweating! It also delivered on its promise of 24 hour protection with I was surprised about, to be honest.
The second night, I used the Cool Essentials scent which is cucumber and green tea. I really liked this scent a lot and it's a good thing too because the scent never evaporated. Last night was my third night using Dove Clinical Protection and it's still working great for me. Clinical strength deodorants certainly cost more than regular deodorants but I have to say that I think the Dove brand is worth it. Just make sure you get a scent you really love because it really lasts with this brand. As for me, I'm sticking to the Cool Essentials scent for now.

Get Sleek With the Hana Professional Flat Iron

When I reviewed the Hana blow dryer a few weeks ago I mentioned how much I'd love to try their flat irons because the dryer was so great so the nice people at Misikko sent me the Hana Professional Flat Iron 1" for review and I'm happy to report that it's as great as the dryer.

First off, I hardly ever pay attention to how a flat iron looks. You'll never catch me with a zebra print or a crystal studded flat iron I just want a high quality professional hair straightener that I know is going to smooth out my frizz without frying my hair. So, I was shocked at how much I love the look of this iron. When I saw the periwinkle blue plates against the sleek black iron it had me at hello. I was also impressed with the leather case that comes with it and that it includes a silicone heat proof mat.

The iron heats up very quickly so by the time I had smoothed some heat protectant into my hair and combed it through the iron was ready to go. I was interested to see if I could tell a difference between the regular plates in my old flat iron and the "floating plates that adjust to hair texture" in the Hana pro. You can't but my hair didn't get snagged in this one like it tends to in other flat irons I've used so, I suppose you can tell a difference you just can't feel them move.

The feature I loved best about this iron is the ergonomic handle. I don't usually like pin straight hair on me but I'm a serious klutz when I try to curl my hair with a flat iron and I usually just end up giving up and using a curling iron but the shape of this iron and the swivel cord make it easy. I think this is the first time I've curled my hair with a flat iron that I didn't almost drop it while I was curling!

The only thing I didn't like about this iron was the fact that it has a dial for the temperature settings instead of a digital one. I guess I just like to be precise when I'm setting the temperature, plus, the digital ones are easier to read but that's the worst thing I can think of to say about the Hana and it's certainly a minor complaint. I did like that the dial was located in a spot where I didn't keep bumping it and resetting the temperature.

I also love that because of the tourmaline ceramic plates your hair can still be a tiny bit damp when you use it. That saves time when I'm just touching up my second day hair that has gotten slightly damp in the shower.

Everyone seems to be talking about Bio Oil these days from beauty bloggers to the everyday glamour girl on the beauty forums. So I decided to put my beauty snobbery aside and see if I agreed Bio Oil was the real deal or just really hyped.

My first impressions were the baby pink color and light pleasantly fresh scent reminded me of the Love’s Baby Soft Perfume I used to wear in high school, not really what I’m normally looking for in a moisturizer but I reminded myself of all the good reviews and forged ahead. It has the consistency of a dry oil but I feared my breakout prone, sensitive skin would rebel. Following the enclosed instructions, I used just one drop on my face and massaged it in well. I was pleasantly surprised. It absorbed quickly and easily. I found myself fantasizing that it would heal the chicken pox scars I’ve had since I was twelve.

Fast forward to 8 weeks later and I’m hopelessly hooked. Not only did Bio Oil not break me out, it actually healed 98% of my breakouts and the dark marks they left behind. It has not, however, healed my chicken pox scars but because it does not seem to collect in my pores they do appear less prominent. (The instructions did say it must be used at least six months before scars will show improvement though.) It has also left my skin much brighter and smoother but the thing that shocked me more than anything was how terrific this oil is under makeup! Bio Oil seems to actually function as a primer for my base instead of separating and removing it like I feared it would.

I did a little research to se what makes Bio Oil behave so differently on the skin than other oils and here is what I discovered:

Bio Oil is a blend of botanicals, vitamins and oil. The active ingredient is called Purecellin Oil- it’s a synthetic form of the preen oil from birds that makes them waterproof. No wonder it makes makeup last! ( A word of warning here- it doesn’t do the same for eye makeup so stick to your normal primer for that!) I was unhappy to discover it also contains mineral oil which makes me cringe but I can’t argue with the great results I’ve had.

A little goes a long way with this oil and I found myself calculating just how much money I’d save monthly If I only needed one drop for my face and one for my neck and chest, morning and night. Priced at $10 for two ounces I could save a lot of money especially since it functions as a makeup primer!

What do you think? Would you try a moisturizer with mineral oil and synthetic preen oil if you thought it might heal your scars and shrink your pores?

Hanna Air Hair Dryer Makes Styling a Breeze!

I'm always looking for styling tools that are quick and easy. In my fantasies, my hair always looks like I've just stepped out of the salon but the reality is I usually don't have the patience or the time to do a perfect blow out. I get about halfway done and the dryer starts to get heavy and my hair takes forever to dry so I get impatient and I end up with a passable blow out that is nothing like the silky flowing tresses of my dreams.

So, I was thrilled when Misikko contacted me to review the Hana Air Hair Dryer one of their Fastest drying salon hair dryers because I've heard they have the best hair dryers and any dryer that says it dries 60% faster is something I want to try!

Right out of the box I was impressed by the lightweight feel of it and awed by the super long 12' cord. I'm not sure where they think I'm going with my dryer that I need a 12' cord but I can actually leave my bathroom with it still plugged in! But I think too much cord is way better than not enough.

A couple of seconds in to drying I knew it was going to be a great dryer. My hair has never dried this quickly EVER! Plus, it has these genius little added features like rubber nubs on the sides that keep the dryer from blowing off the counter when you set it down to section your hair and a cool shot button that actually locks into place but the best part is I didn't have the hand fatigue I normally do because of the quick drying and the light weight of the dryer.

So for the first time in ages, I pretty much ended up with the blow out I always set out to achieve with the exception of a tiny bit of frizz. I'd say it got my hair 95% frizz free which is an accomplishment since even keratin treatments don't get my hair 100% frizz free. Did I get the hair of my dreams? Almost. It's the closest I've ever come to it without a hair stylist.

William’s new missus can’t seem to put a foot wrong. But there is one corner of the commenterati that can’t make their minds up about her. The fashion world is notoriously catty, as anyone who has seen The September Issue will know. If you haven’t seen this movie, drop everything NOW and go and rent a copy. It is a brilliant, brilliant documentary film about the famous, yep, September issue of Vogue, which has to be the biggest and best edition of the year, by dint of some tradition, the reasons for which escape me. Probably something to do with ‘trends’ or ‘seasons’. Edited by the notorious ice-maiden that is Anna Wintour - whose stare could shatter you at 100 paces – Vogue is the final word in glamour and high fashion, and whilst Wintour is the boss from hell, she certainly knows exactly what she’s doing. And if Wintour wants something she usually gets it.

If you have seen the movie you will understand the excitement of hearing through the gossip-vine that none other than our own little home-counties girl Kate Middleton has been asked to appear on the cover of Vogue. Oh the thrill of it! What will she wear? The lengths to which Vogue will go to produce beautiful images are extraordinary. They will fly gamine models to Machu Picchu in the monsoon season, along with a twelve-man crew, in order to get the right photo. But whatever the shoot costs, Wintour will reject the photos if they are not 100% perfect.

Simply The Best

It is no surprise, therefore, to hear that Vogue had lined up the ‘world’s greatest photographer’ Mario Testino to do the shoot for Middleton. And he would not have been a stranger either. Mario Testino has a close relationship with the Royal Family, and was commissioned by them to take the royal couple’s engagement photographs. It would have been a dream pairing!

It’s Not Gonna Happen

So what’s gone wrong? The rumours are that Kate’s mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, has put the dampeners on the idea. You know how it is with mothers-in-law, they don’t have to actually say anything. You can just tell they don’t approve. And to be fair to her and Kate, who is happy to do as she is told, the modern royal are trying to salvage their reputation at present. The Royal Wedding was an unmitigated success in PR terms, and the hiccups with embarrassing minor royals have been eclipsed for now by the warm and fuzzy glow we got from that event. The Windsors don’t feel it is appropriate for the future Queen to be over-involved in something as ephemeral as the fashion world.

Not That Interested

Much to the disappointment of the fashion world, Kate has never expressed a particular desire to be known as a fashion icon. She has more important matters on her mind and does not want to risk trivializing the monarchy. With a hectic charity and public duty schedule she has to be more aware of her appearance than most, but she never fails to impress with her quiet elegance. Whilst some complained that her Alexander McQueen wedding dress lacked flair, Vogue praised it for its ‘elegance and intricate detail’.

Approval From The Top

Always the voice of authority, Anna Wintour herself has given Middleton the seal of approval, commenting, ‘She dresses her age and never looks out of place’. Quite. That’s all Kate needs in order to be the focus of the fashion world. And she doesn’t need moving companies to take her wardrobe around the world either. Modesty and frugality is ‘in’. Her style is understated, never showy or ostentatious. She often prefers high street fashion to haute couture and that has endeared her to the Brits in the current recession. She wore a gorgeous blue dress by Issa for her engagement announcement, but also wore a dress from Topshop for her 25th birthday. Her official engagement photos, by Testino she wore a dress from high street retailer Reiss. She shopped at Whistles, Banana Republic and Warehouse for her honeymoon outfits. Her jeans have always been Diesel or Hudson Reilly. Not out of reach for those who want to copy her.

Fall is here already and it seems like Twenties style is back with everyone bobbing their hair and reading about flappers in everyone's favorite classic tale The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the sassy new novel Vixen (The Flappers) by Jillian Larkin. So when I spied this recipe on Yumsugar.com called Fitzgerald I knew it would be the perfect way to drink to the new season!

DIRECTIONS

Tarte 4Day Lash Stain- Does it Really Work?

Summer is all about finding sheer natural looking products that don't sweat off the minute you put them on. I love my regular mascara but it just wasn't standing up to the summer's heat and humidity.

Looking for something different I discovered Tarte's 4Day Lash Stain. This formula is all natural and much better for the health of your lashes but does this stain really last for 4 days? I thought I'd give it a try and see.

The first thing I discovered is the old school curved brush. Thank You! I have no idea why makeup companies stopped making this kind of brush! It's so much easier to use than any other shape of brush out there because you can get every last tiny lash with no problem. I guess it doesn't look as fancy in commercials though, so in an effort to be competitive companies have come out with every other shape of brush imaginable and yes they do look great in the commercial but they just don't work as well.

On application I found the formula easy to spread on with no clumps and much more body building than I had expected it to be. The look is perfect for this time of year because it adds just a touch of length and body with a nice black tint. If you are the type if girl who loves to pile on the mascara till it looks like fake lashes this product isn't for you. The results are a better than natural look but still very soft looking. The formula is very liquid but I found it very easy to apply and I love that it doesn't flake.

Now to answer the question you really want to know, does this stain last for 4 days? Not on me. It did last the entire day though. I will take some of the blame for it's failure, however. I find it next to impossible to clean the eyeshadow off my lids without getting cleanser on my lashes and I like to put on a generous amount of moisturizer at bedtime. Both of these things will break down the stain.

Would I use it again? You bet! I think it's a great mascara for summer and it feels really good on your lashes. I'll probably crave something a bit more dramatic once Fall rolls around but for this time of year it's exactly what I was looking for.

Michèle's Organics- Flower Power in a Jar

When Michèle sent me some samples from her new brand to try I was instantly won over by the smell of the products. The uplifting and intoxicating aromas are so addictive I would probably use the line even if I didn't love the results but I'm happy to report I was just thrilled with the glow they gave me. These products are bliss in a bottle and the pleasant scent lingers lightly all day. I'm not a huge fan of the old school facial scrub preferring high tech microfiber cloths instead and since it's all natural it looks like what its made from which basically means it looks like brown goo. What it lacks in tech and visual appeal it makes up for in results. One look at my skin afterwards and I was won over completely. Meant for once a week use, I have just used it for the third time today and it has improved the look and feel of my skin tremendously! It also optimizes the results of the Citrus Burst Exfoliating lotion.
4) Neroli Rejuvenating cream and Neroli Toner- Neroli is great for acne, oily and mature skins. So if you are one of those women who has both breakouts and wrinkles like I do, this is the stuff you're looking for. It also, in my opinion, may be the best smelling stuff on the planet which makes it a pleasure to use and my favorite!

I have now tried almost the whole product line and while I do have favorites, I think all of the products are equally high quality and effective. I was also impressed with the prices as well. Most natural and organic skincare lines are priced too high for my budget due to the high cost of pure essential oils but despite being of the highest pureness and quality Michèle's products are in the $18 to $35 range which puts them right in my price range.
And bravo to Michèle for using glass jars, recycled packaging and fair trade oils!

Summer's here and bright colors couldn't be trendier. Temptu has got them with their new limited edition airpods for the Temtptu airbrush.
Until now, Temptu only had super natural looking shades in their repertoire but they have kicked it up a notch for summer with two limited edition sets of blush with perfectly co-ordinating highlighter. The one I tried is a beautiful bright blushing coral blush with Sunset glow highlighter. I love both shades tremendously and I'm so sad they are limited edition. The coral blush is much brighter than my usual pink airpod, so being very fair I have to be very light handed. It looks amazing with bronzer on top! The highlight color is the total opposite I think I actually have to use a bit more to see it than I do with my usual champagne highlighter but it gives great results and also looks really good on the brow bone to highlight your regular eyeshadows as well.

Cher has won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, three Golden Globes and a Peoples Choice Award but what she's know for the most is her fearless adventures in fashion. She is the Queen of re-invention. I was lucky enough to see her perform live last night at Caesars Palace in Cher at the Colosseum and even though I can't stop humming Believe (I think it might take an exorcism to get the song out of my head) what I remember most about last nights show is those amazing Bob Mackie gowns. In fact, I learned two things: 1) All my clothes are boring. 2) I need to own more wigs.
The concert whilst being full of Cher's greatest hits along with some fab re-makes was also a tribute to Cher the fashion Icon with tons of pics and video clips of every look she has had over the years. You might think that someone whose style changes by the second would have tried ever designer out there but Cher and Bob Mackie have been a dynamic duo for 40 years. Her relationship with Mackie has outlasted all of her marriages and with good reason. He fufills her every fashion fantasy, even the Cher Barbie doll wears a Bob Mackie original gown!
At 64 Cher is as beautiful as always with a killer body most twenty-somethings would envy, so admittedly most of us can't pull off some of the daring looks she has had during her lifetime but the next time you are trying to decide between the safe look you know everyone will approve of and the crazy glam look you really want to wear ask yourself this- What would Cher do?

Sex and the City has always been a favorite show of mine. Do you remember the one where Charlotte was constantly staring at her pores in a high powered magnifying mirror? To understand the type of skincare addict I am you have to realize that instead of thinking Charlotte was being silly I decided this was a great idea, bought my own magnifying mirror and have been staring at my pores in it ever since, So it should come as no surprise that I'm always finding little things here and there to correct. Lately, despite my diligent application of sunscreen I have been noticing the beginnings of a few dark spots on my fair complexion. Conveniently, one of my favorite makeover and advice sites Total Beauty.com had just run a survey of the top ten best skin lighteners and brighteners chosen by their readers. The readers overwhelmingly recommended Avon's Anew Luminosity Ultra. It seemed to give a lot of users good results in two weeks! I decided to give it a try. First off the price is great, I got mine on sale for $10 plus shipping and I'm told it's frequently on sale that's a fraction of what these types of creams usually cost. I'm three weeks into using it morning and night now and I have to say, I'm pleased with the results so far. At the two week mark I did notice a bit of a change and I was very happy that it happened to be mostly on the spot that was driving me the most crazy. I do feel like it gives my skin a nice glow as well and I was very happy that my super sensitive skin was able to tolerate the sunscreen in it with no irritation or breakouts, a rare thing for me. It also absorbs easily and is just as good under makeup as it is as a night cream so that's a plus. I only have two very minor negatives to say about it: 1) The Smell- unfortunately it's a very old school perfume-y grandma kind of smell that I've had to get used to. I tend to favor light fresh scents and I use a lot of organic products that usually have a more natural smell. After about a week I decided it wasn't so bad though and now I actually really like the smell. 2) The Jar - This jar looks stunning on my bathroom countertop, however the elegant shape of it makes accessing the product more difficult. I feel like as I get to the end of the jar some of the product will be wasted and that's a shame. Overall the negatives are not worth passing up such a good product and I have to say I highly recommend it if you are trying to even out your complexion. Click here to order from avon.com

We've all seen pictures of celebrities in airports jetting off to their next tropical vacation or film location, and while their outfits may have cost them a pretty penny, nine times out of ten they really are just expensive sweatpants. We understand, we like to be comfy on our flight too and no celeb ever has to dress to impress in order to get bumped up to first class. Well, Lady Gaga is never one to be outdone and on a recent trip to Narita, Japan she made the airport runway into a fashion runway ( See outfit in pics above), her only carry on bag was a white Hermès bag with the handwritten words "I love small Tokyo monster, Tokyo Love" It may not be old Hollywood but it was a fashionista's dream come true. Although Spring has only just sprung in the world of Runway it's already Fall. It's so very difficult to get excited about coats and scarves when it's warm and sunny out which is why I was taken by surprise when I immediately fell in love with Rudsak's Fall 2010 Collection. All the pieces manage to achieve something very difficult with cold weather clothing, that is, to make you look chic whilst still being weather appropriate. The black leather army style hats were my favorite. They were charming on the girls and sexy on the guys. Another highlight of the show was a guest modeling appearance by ET Canada TV personality Rick Campanelli who is pictured above.
