In January of 2004, Who’s Bad mesmerized a standing-room only gathering of friends and pop music lovers at a small nightclub in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They have since played over 700 shows in numerous countries and now boast the title, “The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band.” Their live performance is a jaw-dropping musical extravaganza that pulls from 3 ½ hours of Michael Jackson’s catalogue and spans four decades of Michael Jackson’s extraordinary music career.

From ABC to You Rock My World, no song is forgotten in this electrifying revival of Pop Music’s Royal Highness. Mike Pinto Band

Mike Pinto has crafted an exceptional style of songwriting, with a truly unique take on Roots, Vintage Rock, Reggae, Ska and Classic Surf, but it’s his distinct voice and seamless storytelling that has brought him success both in the States and overseas. With the release of his debut album (Little District, 2005), Pinto began his attack on the Philadelphia music scene as a solo artist. By 2006, underground success and a rabid growing fanbase allowed him to expand westward with two nationwide solo acoustic tours. After the second tour, Pinto decided to relocate to San Diego where he immersed himself in the thriving Southern California music scene and quickly gained a name. The infectious sound garnered so much attention that Insomnia Radio added his single “One More Time” amidst a hard hitting compilation of the SoCal sound’s brightest groups including DI and Slightly Stoopid, with the members of which Pinto often uses as his supporting band.

Pinto’s music quickly traveled out of the continental States and can be found on Japanese compilations, on Hawaii’s top radio stations by huge supporter and top radio personality Shaggy Jenkins as well as topping charts in Guam. As in Pinto fashion, the hype was followed up with tours where he sold out shows in Guam, Big Island, Maui and Oahu, creating even more buzz in the wakes.

In late 2007 Pinto teamed up with professional skateboarder and legendary Drummer/Producer Chuck Treece (Pearl Jam, G Love, Bad Brains, McRad) and released his most complete work to date. With Treece lending his knack for producing and playing a number of the instruments on the album, Pinto’s self-titled album has sold tens of thousands of copies worldwide. The album gained so much attention that Pinto was urged to follow it up with an entirely acoustic version of which was released in 2008.

With a focus on creating community and delivering a live show reminiscent of Vintage Rock and Roll, there is no denying the impact Mike Pinto will have in 2010.

The Fritz

Infectious grooves, intoxicating guitar lines and a relentless drive of soul and passion describes one of the Southeast’s newest sensations, The Fritz. As schooled musicians, the members of The Fritz draw inspiration from a variety of musical traditions and techniques. This fusion of styles is rooted within improvised Funk and Rock, but also builds in elements of jazz, Classical, World, and electronic music.

In their young career, success is no stranger. In just a few years, the band has performed at popular music festivals (Bear Creek, Blackwater, Swamptown), been featured in RELIX magazine and has received accolades from a multitude of media outlets. Relocating to Asheville, NC, The Fritz maintains a rigorous touring schedule around the Southeast. They are preparing to record their second studio album.

Formed in the North Carolina coastline community of Wrightsville Beach in 2001, the riff-fueled, distortion-driven rock of ASG that can be found on their latest effort has actually been at the band’s core since its inception.
Initially forming as a three-piece instrumental project, due to the lack of a dedicated vocalist, ASG were intensely focusing on devising tight, driving guitar riffs, locking guitarist Jason Shi in with the rhythm section of bassist Andy Ellis and drummer Scott Key.
But as time passed and no vocalist was found, Shi was eventually forced to step up to the mic.
With Shi becoming more comfortable as a frontman, the group found themselves connecting with Volcom Entertainment, who signed the band and put them in the studio in 2003, to record their debut album, …The Amplification of Self Gratification.
In 2005 ASG found themselves in a proper studio with proper producers, Matt Hyde and Phil Caivano, recording their sophomore album, Feeling Good Is Good Enough, an album that summoned all the band’s potential and spawned a thunderous hard rock creation that equaled what the band had been working towards for the past 3 years.
Shortly after completing Feeling Good Is Good Enough, second guitarist, Jonah Citty, was added to help recreate the album’s sounds live, which was none too soon as the band quickly found themselves on the road with the likes of The Sword, Torche, Dwarves, and CKY.
In June 2007 ASG returned to Los Angeles to record their fourth album, entitled Win Us Over, with Matt Hyde again.
Win Us Over, is a vivid, psychedelic, and panoramic thrust that is just as much for the ears as it is for the aura; an experience in a colorful and dense cloth of abrasiveness.
Big beefy guitar riffs and melodic foreboding are soaked in Southern roadhouse whiskey, that just might be laced with psilocybin, and are hazed out through a kaleidoscopic squall that packs a walloping sonic punch.
While the ingredients of stoner rock, psychedelic metal, and angst-ridden punk rock are apparent, ASG doesn’t fit under any particular category. Be you a fan of plain ol’ rock and roll and don sleeveless flannels while sucking down 22 ouncers and gettin’ rowdy – or enjoy waxin’ deep on the bong, Win Us Over lives up to it’s namesake and ensures that come January 22nd 2008, ASG won’t be knocking on any doors; they’ll be knocking them down.

The Pub is back in action and it’s the perfect time to come see us since it’s $1 off all beers as a welcome back to all of our friends that gutted it out through January without us! Come in, say hi & check out our fancy new floors. We put a dab of paint here & there (more to come!), had Matt Steed at Woods Road Furniture make us some fancy new alcove benches, and flung open the doors todat at 11:30. Tonight – Friday – we’ve got DJ Sho and DJ Andy covering all the dance bases with a free Welcome Back Dance Party and tomorrow night is an up-n-coming local band that we’ve heard great things about called Zack Mexico filling in for the very recently defunct band Jackass Flats
