It began as a party, grew into a band, evolved into a sound, and emerged as an institution. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band (the Booty Band) has gone through many changes since their fated onset in 2002. Today they are ready to shake the world, one cheek at a time.

The band’s first official studio release, Now You Know, debuted in 2007 to critical acclaim. The Booty Band received Home Grown Music Network’s Album of the Year and Band of the Year awards, as well as the #3 best regional album from WNCW, one of the top Triple A stations in the country. Awe-inspiring live shows, powerful original compositions, and crowd-pleasing presentations have helped the Booty Band build a rock-solid nationwide fanbase. Having completed three national tours in 2010 alone, the band has worked hard and done well to keep this fanbase fired up and growing fast. They have secured headlining slots at many prestigious festivals including Wakarusa, Jam Cruise, Bear Creek, Jazz Aspen, Long Beach Funk Fest, Rock Boat, Bele Chere (six consecutive years), Floyd Fest, and Smile Fest.

Their second studio album, Doin’ It Hard, is a reflection of the band’s approach to music, touring, performing, recording, and life in general. Recorded in June 2010 at the City of Progress Studios in Miami, FL under the cultivated ear of DJ Le Spam (Andrew Yeomanson) Doin’ It Hard is Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band – next-generation, redefined for a new decade. Doin’ It Hard is slated for a March 2012 release and will be available on 12” vinyl, compact disc, and digital download from all of your favorite online providers.

Other 2012 World Beer Cup Facts:

The 2012 World Beer Cup was the largest commercial international beer competition ever held. Of 3,921 entries, 1,270 (32.4%) came from outside the U.S., while 2,651 (67.6%) came from the U.S. Of 284 total awards, 72 (25.3%) went to breweries from outside the U.S., while 212 (74.7%) went to U.S. breweries. New categories included American-Style Brett Ale (28 entries), Indigenous Beer (26 entries) and American-Style Sour Ale (14 entries).

The amount of donations we have received for this silent auction proves two things: 1) Cancer affects the lives of every single person and 2) We live in an incredible community!!  The Outer Banks consistently ranks #1 in the nation for Relay Fundraisers in the nation for a community our size!

We would like to thank the many, many people who helped make this event happen, including our own Christina Drumm and Philly Joe, as well as all the local businesses who donated items and services to support the Outer Banks Relay for Life.  Over $10,000 was raised that evening!!!  We all had a great time seeing so many familiar faces coming out in support.

Make sure you plan to come to the kid friendly carnival May 19th at the First Flight High School Fields on May 19th.

Starting out as a quartet during their college years practicing their music in a shack, The Shack Band is now building a reputation for their off the cuff live shows and an original sound—an improvisational blend of funk, blues, and progressive rock. Back in 2008, when The Shack Band was still getting their feet wet, they were famous for their energetic live shows at colleges throughout Virginia and the Southeast. But with a new group of enthusiastic songwriters among them, the band has moved on to larger venues and opening for some of the nations top touring acts. The Shack Band released their first EP, Born & Raised, this past February.
