The Samsung M1, the little sibling of the H1 which also features Vodafone 360, has been unleashed in the UK.

The Vodafone 360 web portal offers integrated social networking features, and automatic backup of your contacts and other data online.
Boasting a 3.2 inch display, the M1 also has a 3.2 megapixel camera, 1GB of storage, GPS, 3G and Bluetooth.

But while it has a lesser spec than the H1, it also costs less. Contracts offering the H1 for free start at £35 per month, whereas the M1 begins at a much more budget friendly £20 a month (on a two year contract).

Youtube blog reports that starting next week, YouTube's HD mode will add support for viewing videos in 720p or 1080p, depending on the resolution of the original source, up from our maximum output of 720p today.

As resolution of consumer cameras increases, we want to make sure YouTube is the best home on the web to showcase your content. For viewers with big monitors and a fast computer, try switching to 1080p to get the most out of the fullscreen experience.

Just how much larger is 1080p? Take a look at the following screenshots from this video:

Now the problem is, countries which do not have a youtube server resided there will have problems streaming in High Quality or current HD. So, if you really want to stream in 1080p, the chances are quite slim unless you are in those with local youtube servers.

USB 3.0 is said to be 10x faster than USB 2.0 (480Mbps). Last week we tested a USB 3.0 on the ASUS P5P755 and found out that 10x (4.8Gbps) is quite impossible (4800MBps=480MBps). In fact, we were able to reach around 130MBps (B=Byte, b=bits, 1 Byte= 10 bits for easy calculation).

No matter what, USB 3.0 gives a boost of the traditional 35MBps to almost 120-130MBps. That is a big improvement of almost 3.7x.

The HD-HU3 comes with a USB 3.0 cable and has a dimension of 45 x 175 x 156mm with built in cooling fan. It supports Win 7/vista/xp/macos 10.4 or later.

[i]Suggest Retail Pricing

HD-H1.0TU3 20,000 Yen
HD-H1.5TU3 24,200 Yen
HD-H2.0TU3 46,600 Yen

Singtel has been the exclusive reseller for iPhone for the last 18 months or so. By end of this year, 2 more telcos will jump onto the bandwagon. The first is MobileOne (M1) Singapore.

M1 Singapore is the second telco to offer the Apple iPhone 3GS. They have put up a online site for preorders. If you are on M1 and wanted a iPhone, here is the link you can register your reservation.

No Price plans are out yet but we presume that it will be very competitive against Singtel's price plan. Starhub also has no put up any pre-order service. Starhub also promised to release their price plans by year end.

Intel Corp. agreed to pay $1.25 billion in a far-reaching legal settlement with Advanced Micro Devices Inc., a step that shores up its much smaller rival and may help defuse the mounting antitrust scrutiny Intel faces across the globe.
The agreement, which comes after two decades of antitrust and patent disputes between two makers of chips that power nearly all personal computers, follows adverse rulings regarding Intel's practices by regulators in Europe and Asia. Many of those probes were triggered by AMD's complaints.

AMD has announced new details on its platform roadmap at the 2009 Financial Analyst Day, where senior executives, including president and Chief Executive Officer Dirk Meyer, discussed AMD's strategy for sustained success and growth in 2010 and beyond.

In 2009, AMD achieved all of its major milestones. It transformed into a financially stronger, design-focused company, putting into place a new business model with the creation of Globalfoundries. It launched DirectX 11 capable ATI Radeon HD 5800 and HD 5700 series of graphics cards. It introduced Vision Technology, won major technology transitions such as 40nm and DirectX 11. And it launched first and second generation ultra-thin notebook platforms as well as Dragon platform featuring AMD Phenom II processors for desktop, and the six-core AMD Opteron processor for server.

For 2010 AMD plans the Danube - the next AMD mainstream notebook platform featuring the first AMD mobile quad-core processors, and will offer a battery life of seven or more hours.

Nile - the third generation AMD ultra-thin notebook platform, designed to offer seven or more hours of battery life.

San Marino and Maranello - two new DDR3-based server platforms designed for the volume server market. Maranello will feature the 8- or 12-core Magny-Cours processor, while San Marino will offer new levels of value and power efficiency for the rapidly growing Web and Cloud computing segment;

Leo - the next-generation enthusiast-class desktop PC platform with a six-core desktop CPU and support of DirectX 11 graphics and ATI Eyefinity Technology, AMD noted.

In 2011, AMD will introduce Bulldozer and Bobcat - two new x86 cores targeting different usage models. Bulldozer will be a completely new, high performance architecture for the mainstream server, desktop and notebook PC markets that employs a new approach to multithreaded compute performance for achieving advanced efficiency and throughput.
Bulldozer is designed to give AMD an exceptional CPU option for linking with GPUs in highly scalable, single-chip Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) configurations.

Bobcat will target the low power, ultra-thin PC markets with an extremely small, highly flexible, core that also is designed to be easily scaled up and combined with other IP in APU configurations.

Llano - targeted at mainstream notebooks and desktops, this APU will be the first in a family of next-generation designs that combine the power of the CPU and GPU onto a single piece of silicon and engineered to deliver impressive visual computing experiences, outstanding performance with low power and long battery life. It is expected to be the industry's first APU processor ahead of the first Bulldozer and Bobcat based APUs, highlighted AMD.

Brazos - a low cost, low-power ultra-portable platform featuring the APU codenamed Ontario, which will contain the new Bobcat core and integrated GPU, and is intended for the highest performance in a low-power design.

Zambezi - An enthusiast desktop processor with up to eight cores, featuring the first Bulldozer core, scheduled for release in 2011.

Pictures and specifications of the dual gpu card Radeon HD 5970 has surfaced on the net.

This card uses codenamed "Hemlock" uses dual 40nm "Cypress" cores running internal CrossFire mode within the card. these GPUs will feature 1600 stream processors each. Both GPU cores are clocked at 725MHz. There will be 2GB of GDDR5 clocked at 1000MHz (4000MHz). From the specifications, it can be seen that clocks are similar to a Radeon HD 5850.

The dual-GPU, dual-slot card also has a 2x256-bit memory interface, DirectX 11 and CrossFireX support, and dual-DVI outputs plus one mini DisplayPort connector (no HDMI like for the HD 5800 cards). The Radeon HD 5970's pricing and release date are still unconfirmed.

Most 1st tier manufactuers are ready to stock up as the quantities are limited.

VIA Technology cooperates with China Mobile for 4G market

VIA Technology, a subsidiary of VIA Technology specializes in mobile phone chipset manufacturing, announced to cooperate with China Mobile to grab the market of 4G.. The partnership involves VIA Telecom to develop the TD-LTE chipsets for China Mobile to seize the opportunity of the emerging 4G market.

The CEO of VIA Telecom Mr. Zhang Ke said: “Therefore, with the bilateral strength of the related companies from Taiwan and China, both sides are able to build up the most complete supply chain of telecommunication industry in the world.” Zhang. expressed that there are still rooms for improvement in China’s market with penetration rate that has just exceeded 50% or 700 million mobile phone users; compared to 100% penetration rate in Taiwan.

Analysts indicated that the strategy taken by VIA Telecom aims to forge the company to become a dominant role in the 4G development with the TD-LTE chipset technology, in an attempt to compete with its rival Mediatek.

Mr. Wang Jianzhou, the CEO of China Mobile, had signed a cooperation agreement on 3G and TD-LTE chipsets purchase with Mediatek during his visit to Taiwan in late August.

Sources reported that the key to win this battle is which manufacturer is able to start the mass production first.

VIA Telecom had a 3.7 percent share of the market in China last year and expects to raise its share to 25 percent this year as China’s 3G (or TDSCDMA) services usage increase.
