A suspicious device that appeared to be a pony-shaped stuffed animal was blown up this morning after it was found in the middle of a cul-de-sac near Waterbridge Elementary School. The school was placed on lockdown and the pony was blown up.

Somebody will have to explain to Sally why her little pony is a terrorist.

German rockers The Scorpoions formed way back in 1965, believe it or not! It was founded by guitarist Rudolf Schenker. The band did well in the 70s but it wasn’t until 1984 that they got massive with the release of Love at First Sting, their 9th studio album.

Get Your Sting And Blackout World Tour began in March and is expected to go on until 2013. This will be their final tour before they retire.

The German metal legends have extended their farewell tour with more U.S. dates to come next summer. The band are currently booking next summer’s shows but have yet to announce any specific dates. The North American leg of the Get Your Sting and Blackout Tour just concluded in Chicago on August 21, with the band playing in Mexico this Saturday and then heading back to Europe for further dates.

Police say they have located the girl, who is a juvenile, from leads given by animal protection groups in the country. The girl’s parents will soon be questioned, police said. Under recently adopted animal protection law, people can be fined up to euro5,000 ($6,400) for cruel treatment of animals.

Gunther Love - Air Guitar World Champion

Sylvain “Gunther Love” Quimene of France won the annual Air Guitar World Championships this year – that’s the second time the Frenchman took the prestigious crown. The 29-year old lip-synched and danced in sunglasses and gold trousers, to the delight of approximately 8,000 air guitar fans in the Finnish town of Oulu. Every contestant had to do Hendrix’s Foxy Lady, but they also could do a song of their choice.

You may recall the recent story about the sauna world championships and the tragedy of Vladimir Ladyzhenskiy. Ladyzhenskiy was the Russian contestant who died at the event in the town of Heinola. (Source: MSNBC) In the final stage, contestants had to sit inside the 230 deg F sauna. Vladimir Ladyzhenskiy and champion Timo Kaukonen were both badly burned and had to be rushed to a hospital. Ladyzhenskiy didn’t make it.

Finland’s Taisto Miettinen has again taken 1st place at the Wife-Carrying World Championships held in Sonkajaervi. Miettinen ran a 250-meter course with two hurdles and a pool, carrying Kristiina Haapanen. He made it in 1 minute, 4 seconds.

Gabrielle Giffords is an Arizona congresswoman and a Democrat. She is the youngest woman ever to be elected to the Arizona Senate. She’s what they call a “Blue Dog” Democrat, which is a more conservative member of the party. It also means she’s not above doing a little shootin. She still gets a low rating from the NRA, but hey – she also likes motorcycles.

Cops ejected Rosenthal from a Starbucks on the Upper West Side because she started arguing over the “right” way to order a toasted multigrain bagel.

Rosenthal became enraged when the barista asked “Do you want butter or cheese?” “I just wanted a multigrain bagel,” Rosenthal told The Post. “I refused to say ‘without butter or cheese.’ When you go to Burger King, you don’t have to list the six things you don’t want. Linguistically, it’s stupid, and I’m a stickler for correct English.” The barista told her that he wouldn’t serve her unless she specified whether she wanted butter or cheese, or neither. “I yelled, ‘I want my multigrain bagel!’ ” Rosenthal said. The barista said, ‘You’re not going to get anything unless you say butter or cheese!’ ”

Stuffy English professors? Nah, that’s gotta be a stereotype.

And don’t get the prof started on the tall/venti fiasco.
