This is normally a fairly placid lake, good for skimming stones. Sometimes though it's a wild and windy place.

I took this while battling with camera shake, against a gusting wind near Crummock Water weir. I got very wet.
Just in the distance you can see small water spouts the strong winds were whipping up out on the lake.

The cloud here was on its way in, not out. A poor day for capturing mountains panoramas.

I like this particular image. The lighting and colour are quite good and you can see the Buttermere fells poking their heads up in the background. This is probably my favourite of the trip.

The next series were taken near Crummock Water, in the English Lake District, using a Canon Powershot A60 in macro mode.

This one was in a dark spot under some trees, a tripod mounted shot using the self timer.

I'm going to be posting quite a few photos from a recent Lake District trip. The weather wasn't too good so I made the most of the subdued lighting to get some mushroom shots.

Lines on a Loch

To start this photoblog, here's one taken July 2005

Reeds on Loch Ruighean an Altinn, near Drumbeg, Sutherland. I couldn't resist the linear effect of the reed grasses on the water. Didn't really know what I was doing with my camera here, so the shot was the result of luck as much as judgement.

The peninsula containing Drumbeg is also home to Loch Assynt and Suilven, two of Scotland's finest features and a great place for photography when the sun's out.

Mood: playful, it's good to have a nice new photoblog.
