Hearing Restored

Our tree guy stopped by to look at some work we need done. He said he had been sick for a week with a bad earache. He went to four doctors and his ear was still totally stopped up and painful. So we prayed for him in our driveway. He said he felt his ear pop, and he had goose bumps all over. He said he could hear out of it again! Thank You, Lord!

We recently purchased a house that had a fair amount of past due maintenance. One of the issues is overgrown, very large trees crowding the perimeter of the back yard and perhaps threatening the house.

So we left a message for a tree guy we had used once before.

About ten days later, he finally called. He began by apologizing for the delay in returning our call. He said he had been sick in bed for at least five days with a bad earache. This was the first day he had been able to get out and bid on work.

I was surprised that he went on about his ear issue. He said his ear still felt like it had concrete in it. He couldn't hear a thing out of it and after seeing four doctors, it still was not improved.

I gave him the address of the house. He happened to be nearby, and I happened to be at the house doing some work. He said he would stop by shortly.

After I hung up the phone and got back to work, I couldn't get his situation off my mind. I began to come against that sickness in his ear. By the time he arrived, I was anxious to pray for him in person. We walked around the yard to look at the tree situation. He gave us the bid and again began to talk about his ear.

I said, we will pray for you. My husband was in front of him, and for some reason I got behind him and touched the area behind his ear. This guy who climbs and cuts up giant trees for a living closed his eyes and bowed his head while we commanded all infection and infirmity to GO! When we finished, he opened his eyes and said he had goose bumps all over. It was at least 90 degrees that day, so it wasn't the temperature!

He also said he felt a pop in his ear while we prayed.

Hubby asked, "you can hear now, too, can't you?"

He said, "yeah, I can!"

He told us he was baptized in a Baptist church when he was 8 but he later wandered off.

We talked a bit more before he left. He thanked us for praying.

A couple days later, I called to see when he could start the work. As soon as he realized who I was, he thanked me profusely for "what you did for me the other day." I asked if his ear was feeling better. He said it was still a little stopped up but, "I can HEAR!"

After we talked about the work, he thanked me again before hanging up.

This was such an encouragement to us. Thank You, Lord, for healing his ear and for letting him know how much You love us all.

Higher Ground Hymn

This past week was met with several discouraging situations, confusion, and frustration. Yesterday afternoon I decided to lie down for a bit to rest and regroup. As I almost drifted off to sleep, a few phrases of this old hymn went through my mind. I believe it was the Holy Spirit so I looked up the lyrics. It is a good prayer for me. My heart has no desire to stay where I've been tempted to camp out this week...

Lyrics:
I'm pressing on the upward way
New heights I'm gaining every day
Still praying as I onward bound
"Lord, plant my feet on higher ground."

1968 Prophecy by a 90 Year Old Norwegian Woman

This prophecy was given by a 90 yr. old woman in Norway 42 years ago about events leading up to the second coming of Christ. An Evangelist by the name of Emanuel Minos wrote this prophecy down in 1968 and thought it was so extreme that he put it away. He recently reviewed the prophecy and was amazed that it is not "extreme" anymore--but the norm in our society. Read the prophecy below.

An old woman of 90 from Valdres in Norway had a vision from God in 1968. The evangelist Emanuel Minos had meetings (services) where she lived. He had the opportunity to meet her, and she told him what she had seen. He wrote it down, but thought it to be so unintelligible that he put it in a drawer. Now, almost 30 years later, he understands he has to share the vision with others.

The woman from Valdres was a very alert, reliable, awake and credible Christian, with a good reputation among all who knew her. This is what she saw:

"I saw the time just before the coming of Jesus and the outbreak of the Third World War. I saw the events with my natural eyes. I saw the world like a kind of a globe and saw Europe, land by land. I saw Scandinavia. I saw Norway. I saw certain things that would take place just before the return of Jesus, and just before the last calamity happens, a calamity the likes of which we have never before experienced.

She mentioned four waves:

1. "First before Jesus comes and before the Third World War breaks out there will be a ‘détente’ like we have never had before. There will be peace between the super powers in the east and the west, and there will be a long peace. (Remember, that this was in 1968 when the cold war was at its highest. E. Minos) In this period of peace there will be disarmament in many countries, also in Norway and we are not prepared when it (the war) comes. The Third World War will begin in a way no one would have anticipated - and from an unexpected place.

2. "A lukewarmness without parallel will take hold of the Christians, a falling away from true, living Christianity. Christians will not be open for penetrating preaching. They will not, like in earlier times, want to hear of sin and grace, law and gospel, repentance and restoration. There will come a substitute instead: prosperity (happiness) Christianity.

"The important thing will be to have success, to be something; to have material things, things that God never promised us in this way. Churches and prayer houses will be emptier and emptier. Instead of the preaching we have been used to for generations -like, to take your cross up and follow Jesus, - entertainment, art and culture will invade the churches where there should have been gatherings for repentance and revival. This will increase markedly just before the return of Jesus.

3. "There will be a moral disintegration that old Norway has never experienced the likes of. People will live together like married without being married. (I do not believe the concept ‘co-habitor’? existed in 1968 - E. Minos.) Much uncleanness before marriage, and much infidelity in marriage will become the natural (the common), and it will be justified from every angle. It will even enter Christian circles and we pet it - even sin against nature. Just before Jesus return there will be TV- programs like we have never experienced. (TV had just arrived in Norway in 1968. E. Minos)

"TV will be filled with such horrible violence that it teaches people to murder and destroy each other, and it will be unsafe in our streets. People will copy what they see. There will not be only one ‘station’ on TV, it will be filled with ‘stations.’ (She did not know the word ‘channel’ which we use today. Therefore she called them stations. E. Minos.) TV will be just like the radio where we have many ‘stations,’ and it will be filled with violence. People will use it for entertainment. We will see terrible scenes of murder and destruction one of the other, and this will spread in society. Sex scenes will also be shown on the screen, the most intimate things that takes place in a marriage." (I protested and said, we have a paragraph that forbids this kind of thing. E. Minos.) There the old woman said: "It will happen, and you will see it. All we have had before will be broken down, and the most indecent things will pass before our eyes."

4. "People from poor countries will stream to Europe. (In 1968 there was no such thing as immigration. E. Minos.) They will also come to Scandinavia - and Norway. There will be so many of them that people will begin to dislike them and become hard with them. They will be treated like the Jews before the Second World War. Then the full measure of our sins will have been reached (I protested at the issue of immigration. I did not understand it at the time. E. Minos.)

The tears streamed from the old woman’s eyes down her cheeks. "I will not see it, but you will. Then suddenly, Jesus will come and the Third World War breaks out. It will be a short war." (She saw it in the vision.)

"All that I have seen of war before is only child’s play compared to this one, and it will be ended with a nuclear atom bomb. The air will be so polluted that one cannot draw one’s breath. It will cover several continents, America, Japan, Australia and the wealthy nations. The water will be ruined (contaminated?). We can no longer till the soil. The result will be that only a remnant will remain. The remnant in the wealthy countries will try to flee to the poor countries, but they will be as hard on us as we were on them.

"I am so glad that I will not see it, but when the time draws near, you must take courage and tell this. I have received it from God, and nothing of it goes against what the Bible tells.

"The one who has his sin forgiven and has Jesus as Savior and Lord, is safe."

WHEN THE OIL FLOWS

An elder in the Pentecostal Church at Moss, Norway, Martin Andersen, heard the following prophecy in 1937, in Moss:

‘When oil comes out of the North Sea and along the Norwegian coast, things will begin to happen, and the return of Jesus is approaching.’

When these words had been proclaimed, people stood up in the congregation and asked the man to sit down and not speak such nonsense. In 1937 it was indeed nonsense to talk about oil being pumped along the Norwegian coast. Today all the world’s big oil companies are pumping oil along the coast of Norway. Norway is the world’s second greatest exporter of oil - after Saudi Arabia.

The sum of it all is: Jesus is coming soon (suddenly).

Notes and Quotes - Mad Church Disease

"Through sincere pain and an obvious desire to change, Bill (Hybels) openly confessed that 'the way I was doing the work of God was destroying the work of God in my life.'" Forward, p9

In the first chapter, Anne Jackson describes some of the atrocities her family endured when her father was a pastor. Our diaries are surprisingly similar.

"The greatest commandments are what? To love God and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. In most cases, I don't question our love for God. The passion and intensity with which we go about our lives are small indicators of our love. But we are guilty of not loving ourselves. The statistics don't lie. And even if they did, I'm sure you could conclude from your own experience that, quite frankly, we're pretty terrible at loving ourselves." p.56-57

Chapter 3::Internal Risk Factors

Type A and Type B personalities are both at risk. Type B's can have a difficult time saying "no." "Dean's strengths of being sensitive and friendly also became his weaknesses. Because he didn't know how to set boundaries, his approach began handicapping him. Soon his bucket became empty. He no longer had the energy to minister to others in the way he knew was necessary. His growing ineffectiveness triggered a depression, and he eventually left the ministry." p.64-65

Another case study: Cindy grew up in a home with strict and high expectations and little affirmation. "Fast forward fifteen years. Cindy now works as the volunteer women's director in her church. She also serves in the children's ministry and occasionally sings in the choir...Instead of trying to appease her parents, she tries to appease her ministry leader. She often takes work home with her, staying connected to her phone and email at all times. If something comes up, she doesn't want to let the ball drop. She's afraid that if she unplugs for even a moment, she'll be letting her team down." p.65-66

Chapter 4::External Risk Factors

AJ likens ministry environment to the furnace in Daniel.

"Here's the reality: there is no perfect environment out there."

(And my favorite part in the whole book) "And generally speaking, most people you run into in the church world are great, loving, caring people.

Stop laughing.

I meant that.

But I'm going to guess that more than half of you reading this at least smirked at that "great, loving, caring" line. Why?

Because you've been there--where it's not great."

My biggest indicator of burnout is how I treat people...If I find myself losing my patience with people quickly and my thoughts become negative toward friends and family, or I find myself withdrawing from relationships, this means I've entered a danger zone. p.93

"The first step in overcoming burnout is to own up to the decisions that have led you here." p 106

The exception to this rule is physical, sexual or emotional abuse at some point in your life. The author went through some abuse during high school. A counselor helped her realize that, "even though I needed to let go of the guilt I was carrying in thinking that the abuse was my fault, I needed to take responsibility for working through the pain." p.107

I sort of sped through the remainder of the book which is about the recovery process. Mostly it's doing the basics of taking care of ourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The author wound up in the hospital before she began to make the necessary changes.

The book is dedicated to her grandfather, whose final words to her were, "never give up on church."

She promised him she wouldn't.

I have also made that promise. However, I doubt our definitions of church are the same.

What is the Source of Sickness and Disease?

A friend sent a message to several of her friends asking us to pray for her mom who has two lumps on her thyroid. She is being sent for tests to determine if the lumps are cancerous.

She wondered why God was "allowing" this in her mom's life right now.

This is what I wrote to her in response:

Debbie, (not her real name) in response to your question, "Could this be a spiritual attack because my mom is getting closer to the Lord" and your assertion that "I know God must be allowing this sickness for a reason" please allow me to offer the following:

ALL sickness is from the enemy of our souls. The devil seeks who can devour and comes to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus came that we would have life, and took ALL our sickness and disease and by His wounds we were healed!

He even instructed us to heal the sick and set the captives free.

We are to resist the devil, too. We have been given authority over the enemy.

The enemy has some power, but NO authority. Whatever he does in our lives is trespassing. He loves it when we get sidetracked thinking that maybe God allowed sickness or disease in our bodies in order to get our attention, etc.

God is our father, and what kind of father would EVER give his child sickness to get his attention?

Only the kind of father we put in prison!

It sounds like your mom is strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, so she has the armor to quench every fiery dart! I love this verse: 1 John 5:18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one DOES NOT TOUCH HIM! (caps and exclamation point mine)

In praying for your mom, we help her to stand strong in the face of this challenge!

Heal the Sick

Since we began listening to Curry Blake teaching on Matthew 10:8*, we have been looking for opportunities to pray for people while we are out and about.

The other day when we were at the mall food court, this older man in a wheelchair inched his way over to our table. I originally sat there because I wanted to pray for him, but I got nervous because he seemed angry and perhaps mentally disturbed.

When G arrived to pick me up for our evening appointment, the man seemed drawn to him especially. After a few minutes of "conversation," we asked if we could pray for him. He instantly perked up and said "yes."

After we prayed the first time, he said the pain in his legs was better but not gone. After we prayed the second time, his demeanor changed.

He started talking about how he was saved and filled with the spirit at age 9. He mentioned he heard G speaking in tongues. He said, "God is so good. It was God that brought me over to talk to you. This made my day."

When we left for our evening appointment, he was still happy and praising God. We forgot about the pain in his legs, and I think he did, too.

He felt like God had forgotten him, but God showed him he had not. With tears in his eyes, he said, "God touched me! I can feel it."

During Keith's seven years of following Jesus, he made a powerful impact still strongly felt today. Was he perfect? Of course not… But, his willingness to "go for it with God" and "obey no matter the cost" left a treasure of music and messages—that are needed now more than ever.

Please Help Get the Word Out
The idea for this event came from a prayer-leader in CA that I'd never met, Dai Sup Han of Prayer Surge Now! He wanted Keith's friends, John Dawson, Loren and Darlene Cunningham, and me to take part. It seemed impossible but I realized God was in it as it began to fall together almost miraculously.

Keith would like nothing better than to know that today his voice might help fill your churches, training centers, missions bases, works of justice and mercy, and prayer rooms, etc.

We are using this day as a "divine excuse" for the Lord to grip the hearts of believers of all ages, everywhere, in all denominations. And hopefully bring many prodigals home, too.

It's All About Jesus
This is not an event to promote a ministry or to ask for money. It's not about Last Days Ministries—or me. Honestly it's not "really" about Keith either—except to remember the challenging and worshipful messages he preached and put into music.

We want it to motivate, challenge and inspire all who watch to a deeper walk with Jesus, giving a time of personal response at the end.

Sunday Mornings

110 years ago today, my grandfather, George Alfred Brown was born. He passed on in 1974 which was my first experience with loss and death. As I thought of him a few moments ago I began to recall Sunday mornings at different stages of my life thus far and thought I'd share some of those random thoughts here.

35 years ago, I spent every other weekend with my aforementioned Granddad. He would take me for a walk around his neighborhood in Ocean View and tell me stories as we strolled along. These walks would always lead us to a little soda fountain where he would buy me a root beer float. This is one of my fondest early childhood memories.

30 years ago, I would be putting on the vestment of an acolyte at St. Paul's Episcopal Church preparing to fulfil my role in the processional and lighting the candles at the altar for the start of the liturgy. This made me feel significant and important. I hoped to one day earn the position of carrying the large staff with the cross at the head of the procession. We stopped going to church before that day came.

25 years ago, the morning light trying to make its way through the heavily curtained windows of my bedroom would send me deeper beneath the covers. I had become quite the creature of the night and would make every effort not to emerge from sleep until the sun had passed the midpoint of the sky.

20 years ago...coffee, newspaper, and the best omelettes in the world at Charlie's.

15 years ago...coffee, newspaper, and occasional exchanged glances with my first wife at Shoney's. It was a ruse...we were already drifting apart.

10 years ago, Sunday mornings were bright and beautiful. The love of my life and I would be fawning over our amazing baby boy...laughing, singing, loving, while we got ready to go to church which was an entirely different experience from the pomp and pageantry I'd tried to be a part of as a child.

5 years ago, I'd be getting ready for work or getting ready for church all the while hoping to somehow be the best husband and father I could be that day...knowing child #3 was on the way and I needed to be a better provider than ever.

This Sunday morning, It's my weekend with my kids. I've fed them leftover krispy kreme donuts for breakfast, wrangled nine dachshunds in and out of their pen, pulled a load of clothes from the dryer, loaded the dishwasher, etc. It's difficult to sit still and not DO something because thats when the voices start. The ones that tell me I've failed...that remind me of everything I've done wrong. And then, I remember walking hand in hand with my Granddad, feeling safe in his presence. I refocus...the rest of this day is about my kids...loving them...making them feel safe in my presence.

Next Sunday morning, I believe I will go for a walk with my Father...let Him take me by the hand...and listen to His voice...His stories. I will believe what He says about me.

Overcoming an orphan spirit*

The antidote for an orphan spirit is generosity and asking for more.

Charles Dickens' character, Oliver Twist, overcame his fear, stepped up and asked for more. In the end, Oliver finds his mother's sister who gives him a home. So at the end of the book, his life is very different.

The way to tell if you are operating in an orphan spirit is that you are saying there is not enough - not enough money; not enough time; not enough resources. You're afraid. You're vulnerable.

This spirit takes hold as a result of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

The story of the prodigal son isn't about the son, but a picture of our heavenly father. He longs for us to return to Him.

All of the great deliverers in the Bible were adopted. Esther was adopted by Mordecai. Moses was adopted by Pharaoh's daughter. Jesus was adopted by Joseph.

Prayer to overcome an orphan spirit:

I reject the orphan spirit, sent against me by my enemy. Every trace of this lie leave me now in Jesus' name. I am not alone. I am deeply loved, completely accepted and cherished. I am worth dying for. I receive the spirit of adoption. I am the apple of my father's eye. Nothing can separate me from His love. I am one with Him. He will never leave me. I trust in His love. Abba! Abba! Abba! Fill my life! Overflow from my life! Nourish the world around me with Your strength. I love you, Daddy!

Getting Comfortable With God

Do you know how much God loves you?

God proved His love for us through His Son, Jesus, who died for our sins. But, for some reason, it's hard to carry on a conversation with Him. We can be so distant.

I bet God really gets a kick out of how some of us talk to Him. We can be so serious and formal. "Oh, Lord Most Higheth! Howeth my heart doth longest for Thee!"

We need to get comfortable with God. I don't mean disrespectful, but we should know that He loves us and that we don't have to be afraid of Him.

The Importance of Spending Time with God

First Corinthians 8:6 says that God created us to live for Him He's given us the gift of life and He wants us to enjoy it!

You can have a joyful, fulfilling life by living in close, personal relationship with God. But in order to get there, you have to spend time with Him. God doesn't want to just be the button we push when we have an emergency.

Whether we know it or not, without God, we are always in an emergency. Without Him operating in our lives, helping and protecting us, there isn't one of us who knows one iota about anything we're doing!
Unlimited Time, Unlimited Blessings

You and I can spend as much time as we want with God. We have an open invitation to invite the Creator of the universe into our life each day. We get to speak to Him personally and read the book of instruction that holds the answers to everything in life.

The devil doesn't like that. That's why he works so hard to tell us that God doesn't want to be around us if we're not perfect. I've got a news flash: We aren't ever going to be perfect. That's why Jesus went to the cross for us!

We can go to our heavenly Father as often as we like and He will never get tired of us coming. The Bible says we can come boldly before God fellowship with Him, and have our needs met.

James 4:8 says, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (NASB) God the Father longs to fellowship with you. The moment you accepted Christ into your heart, God made His home in you. So kick up your feet, get cozy and enjoy the company.

Vision of Crucified Christ

I saw myself standing before the crucified Christ.

I dipped my finger in the blood on His forehead and smeared it across my own.

I dipped my finger in the blood on His hands and rubbed it on my hands and arms.

I took some blood from his side, and rubbed it over my heart.

Tears were running down my cheeks as I thanked him for all that He suffered on my behalf. I thanked him that the blood running from his wounds takes away my sins and heals all my diseases.

As I thanked Him for the blood that heals, I took more blood and rubbed it on my upper arm and shoulder where I had pain from an injury.

We should be so heavenly minded we can't help but be earthly awesome!

Become love.

What if we had no buttons (for others to push)?

We don't have the right to manifest ourselves and cop an attitude.

When appropriate, he answers, "because I walk with God."

Do everything without complaining.

Instead of singing "I'll never know how much it cost, to see my sin upon that cross." Rather "I need to know how much it cost."

Prayer to Combat Stinking Thinking

I declare I am one whose mind is set on the Lord, and I hear His voice. I hear the Lord's voice, and I do not listen to another. I abandon all “stinking thinking” right now and choose to confess the Word of God and come into agreement with it.

It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me the Hope of Gory. I have set my face like flint, and I shall not be confounded or confused by the voice of the enemy nor shall I be put to shame by him, for I am in perfect peace. No weapon...no thought formed against me shall prosper for I discern good and evil…between accusation and conviction and respond appropriately.

I receive conviction by the Holy Spirit that I am righteous in Christ Jesus.

I walk in Godly Sorrow which leads to repentance and not according to worldly sorrow. Conviction and awareness of sin in my life does not come with accusation, guilt or shame. I reject accusation and take authority over it according to the Cross and the shed blood of Christ.

I declare I am one who thinks only on what is pure, lovely and upright for I take all negative accusing thoughts captive in obedience to Christ and His Word. There is no condemnation in Christ so the accusing words of the enemy are lies, and I resist them. I submit to the truth of God’s Word about me, and I resist the devil and his lies…and he is fleeing as I do this.

I am one who walks in power, love and a sound mind according to the Truth of the eternal Word. The things of the world are temporal and subject to the rule of Christ; therefore, I set my mind and heart on eternal things which have no end.

Fear has no place in me this day or any other day, for all is well with my soul. I declare the Lord is contending with all things that contend with me. The battle is His and as He fights for me I choose to set my affections on Him...to praise and give thanksgiving for the goodness I have seen in my life. I drink deeply from the wells of salvation. I encourage myself in the Lord even as David did. The alabaster box of my heart is poured out before the Lord and He kisses me with the kisses of truth, love, affection, goodness, kindness, forgiveness, peace, courage and complete forgiveness-- past, present and future, for surely He has gone before me to make a way where there is no way.

The Lord is perfecting all things that concern me even at this very moment. Therefore, I choose...I declare today is a whole new day to rejoice in the Lord and to be one who flows continuously with living water out of the depths of my being in Him. I live, move and have my being in the Lord. I am in Christ and He is in me...I abide in Him regardless of how I feel or think.

My place in the Lord is positional and not based on feelings, thoughts or anything else. My position in the Lord is based on the blood He shed which I have accepted. My position is not according to works. The truth of the Word supersedes the facts on the ground in my life. Today is a new day for new thoughts...for new faith...for new hope, for I am seated in heavenly places in Christ with a clean heart and a steadfast spirit. All is well with my soul this day and every day after.

Prophetic Dream of Outpouring of Glory

In the dream, I was standing near the back of our church. All of the seats were filled.

Everyone listened intently as an African American woman sitting on the front row described the glory she experienced in a past move of God. The woman seemed to be in her fifties, but the move of God she described sounded more like accounts of the Azuza Street Revival. (Although I don't recall the exact details, in the dream I was thinking that it did not sound like the Jesus movement or the early days of the charismatic movement.)

A number of people - mostly men - stood facing her off to her right. I had a sense that they were great evangelists. Some of their suits seemed a bit antiquated.* I did recognize one of the men as my pastor's father. He looked at least twenty years younger than he does today.

As the woman finished speaking, the glory of God fell as she had just described. Someone exclaimed, "That's exactly what it was like back then!"

At that point, one of the men off to the right began to fade out. At first I thought it meant he died. Suddenly I realized that most, if not all, of the people I saw were from past generations.

*This dream is still vivid to me. It is as if I can replay the imagery in my mind. I wish I could replay the audio!

Urgent Call to Prayer

We just received this urgent call to prayer from Lou Engle. Lou is calling the Church of America to five days of concerted prayer, from September 21st through 25th at the end of Ramadan (a holy month for Muslims).

On the 25th of September, Muslims are calling for a Muslim Day of Prayer in Washington DC. They are calling for 50,000 Muslims to gather and pray on the DC Mall.

Also in this article, Lou is calling us to prayer for a 17-year-old young lady named Rifqa Bary. The story is below.

Warriors, let's be praying for this situation and for God to be glorified through these events and circumstances!

Convergence

It is critical that the Church in America understands the times and what needs to be done now. The natural things speak of the invisible. Natural happenings on the earth are revealing something that is going on in the spiritual realm. There is a great spiritual conflict with a rising tide of Islamic boldness being manifested. Several happenings are converging this week.

First of all, our President has recently proclaimed, honored, encouraged the Muslim holy days of prayer and fasting called Ramadan. He was very silent on the National Day of Prayer, but very vocal on the support of Ramadan. Interestingly, at the same time, a major Christian leader of the Emergent Church called for forty days of fasting and prayer in the same Ramadan period with the goal that the Church will better understand our Muslim friends. We are all for understanding, but we must have spiritual discernment as to the spiritual dark powers that are being invoked into our nation.

Cause for Concern

At the same time, on the 25th of September, Muslims are calling for a Muslim Day of Prayer in Washington DC: (http://www.islamoncapitolhill.com/). They are calling for 50,000 Muslims to gather and pray on the DC Mall. This is the exact word of one of the Sheikhs who is leading this historic gathering: "Muslims should march on the White House. We are going to the White House so that Islam will be victorious, Allah willing, and the White House will become into a Muslim house." These are not empty words. They speak of a dark spiritual intent and a coming day of great trouble to America.

A Divine Moment

Now, one of these events is enough to awaken us to this significant throbbing moment, but when they all converge, it becomes a massive spiritual alarm thatmust be responded to by the praying Church. However, I believe in this moment of divine providence that God has raised up on the stage of history, a little "Esther"that if we pray and fast for her, she could be a major voice to expose the dark under-belly of Islam and radiate a bright hope for a day of salvation for Muslims in America.

On Monday, Rifqa Bary, a young 17-year-old woman, will be in the headlines of U.S. news. Four years ago, while living in a very devout and radical Muslim home, Rifqa met Jesus in a powerful way as her Savior. She hid her conversion, began praying secretly, and began hiding her Bible from her parents. Then, on Facebook, her love for Jesus was exposed to the radical Muslim community in Ohio.

Rifqa's father demanded that she renounce Jesus or he would kill her as is commanded by the Koran. As a radiant Believer in Jesus she refused to renounce her Lord and fled to Orlando, where she was taken in and cared for by a Christian Church and family. Now, the father is appealing to the courts to bring her back under his custody. Major television networks have already covered her story.How must the Church of America respond in this moment for our sister who is a part of the Body of Christ?

A Major Sign

This convergence, I believe, is urgently summoning us in the midst of the rising tide of Islamic influence in America to recognize that our God is above every god and that if we return to Him with all of our hearts and call upon Him with fasting and prayer, then God could use what the enemy meant for evil to bring about a great day of salvation for Muslims in America, of which Rifqa is but a major sign.

Here is The Call

First of all, we cannot be passive as a Church to let these kinds of developments go on without being challenged in the spirit. Our fight is not against Muslims, it is against principalities, powers, and forces of darkness.

We are calling the Church of America at the end of Ramadan, fromSeptember 21st through 25th, to five days of concerted prayer. On Monday, we must pray that God would grant supernatural wisdom to the courts so that the testimony of Jesus would be proclaimed and that the best situation for Rifqa and her family would take place. We must pray for Rifqa to be bold in proclaiming Jesus that even thousands of Muslims would hear and be awakened to the love of Christ. She has already said that this is not about her, but about many Muslims coming to Jesus. We must pray for her lawyers who are being bullied, threatened, and challenged on every side.

On Friday, September 25th, the Muslim Day of Prayer, we are calling the Church of America to fast and pray that Muslims would be moved by the Holy Spirit, convicted by the testimony of Christ, and even be visited by Jesus in dreams. We must pray that God would restrain the spiritual powers behind Islam and grant us the great awakening that we desperately need for America.

Let us hear the call to prayer and not miss this moment.

Gift of Prophecy

Like many others, I have been on the receiving end of a number of prophecies over the years. A few years ago, I felt the Lord instructed me to review my past journals for specific words I have received directly or through others.

One of the words I had some time ago was that I would be a prophet. It came during a time that I was spending many hours each week in intercession. I sort of filed the prophecy away in my heart, because my idea of a prophet did not line up at all with the way I saw myself. Also, the only prophets I knew about were in the Old Testament, did really bizarre things, and got sawn in two. Or spoke loudly using "thee's," "thou's" and "thus sayeth the Lord's."

The friend who gave me the prophecy was a mature believer, but I really thought she missed it on that one.

Little did I know that my view of the prophetic realm would change so dramatically. And as I recently heard in a sermon, God calls us to do things that scare us. He doesn't call us to do things we think are possible for us to do. Otherwise, we could just do it in our own strength.

The Florida outpouring certainly changed my life dramatically. That is where I first heard about prophetic music and various people who are called prophets.

So for me, it has been a year of discovery surrounding the idea of the prophetic. Although I have been fascinated by this new (to me) prophetic movement, I still did not think of it as relating to me.

Until last week. During this 40-day fast, I have been "making a list" as our pastor asked us to do preceding the Day of Atonement. I am asking for direction concerning what should be on the list. My most recent addition, just prior to Wednesday evening, was "prophetic anointing."

It was really difficult for me to put that on the list. It made me nervous. It still does.

On Wednesday evening, the elder who leads intercession prior to our services, told me he believes I have a latent gift of prophecy. After we talked for a bit, he asked if he and his wife could pray for me that the gift of prophecy would begin to manifest.

Since we talked last week, I have had a torrent of memories flood in - things I did or saw or dreamed. The earliest vivid "prophetic" dream I remember was at age 15. It gave insight into what was going on in the spirit realm surrounding a difficult ministry situation my dad and our whole family was dealing with at the time. I saw a small town street of whitewashed facades. Behind the facades, the buildings, looked as if they had been demolished or perhaps never completed.

I also saw us leaving town. My dad asked me which direction we went. The town we lived in was just off I-95 in Georgia. I thought about it, and saw we took I-95 North. My dad was later called to a church in Virginia.

I believe the intercessor's word of knowledge about this and his prayer was in God's timing. I asked him and his wife to share any direction or advice they have for me.

I do know one thing I'm NOT doing as diligently as I should - writing. While in prayer about two years ago, I "heard" the directive "write."

There were no instructions on "what" to write. And even though I have kept a journal since I was old enough to write, I assumed this instruction involved something different.

The various blogs I started shortly thereafter are my attempt at obedience. Now I feel it is time to take the writing to another level. Not away from the blog platform necessarily, but inspired writing.

I confess, this makes me nervous. But as someone recently advised me, the veil of fear is made of tissue paper. It is not as formidable as we suppose.

Rewards In Heaven

The couple who leads intercessory prayer for our fellowship asked me to write out this story. I originally read the story in a book some 15 to 20 years ago. I believe the book was written by Gene Edwards, but I'm not certain. If anyone knows where this story originated, please leave a comment.

The author relays a story of an elderly lady who attended his church while he was growing up. She was a quiet and unassuming woman. When he was a teenager, she told him that she was praying for him.

Although that encounter did not seem particularly remarkable, he remembered it non-the-less.

Many years later, in the midst of a 3-day fast, the author saw the following scenario as a dream or vision.

A number of saints were presenting themselves before the judgment seat of Christ. At the feet of each saint was a heap of "works" - a lifetime of labor they were offering to the Lord.

The author observed that many of the piles seemed impressive - presented by impressive people. The woman who prayed for him stood behind an unimpressive heap.

One by one, a flaming torch touched the piles. One by one their works went up in smoke.

Until the flame touched the offering presented by the elderly woman.

Unlike the others, her pile, unassuming as it was, turned to pure gold.

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:6

The preceding story stuck with me through the years. Perhaps those who serve the master willingly, often do so without being aware of it. Do those works comprise the bulk of their reward? In addition to prayer, the smile, the small gift to someone in need, the simple word of encouragement spoken in passing, and faithfulness even when it is unpopular, all please the Father.

Prayer for Release of Bitterness

Father in the name of Jesus, I ask you to forgive me for all bitterness, all grudges, animosity, anger and hatred and desires of wickedness that I've harbored in my heart toward your people through bitterness.

I ask you to forgive me for every injustice that I've done in word, in thought, and in deed toward myself and toward others. I choose to forgive every oppressor in my life who has caused me anguish, torment, turmoil and pain. I forgive them. I release them, those I remember and those I do not remember.

Every seed of bitterness that has been planted in my life that has brought defilement, that has brought uncleanness, profaneness, wickedness, I renounce in the name of Jesus. I give up all the ground for wormwood, gall, bitterness, anguish, and torment in my life.

Father I ask you to heal me of every dysfunction that is in my life because of bitterness. I renounce all hatred. I renounce all violence. I renounce any links to murder that are in my blood line.

I ask you to bring deliverance in my soul. Set me free in my mind of all torture, all emotional bondage and pain, all wickedness, and all control.

I come out of agreement of witchcraft, of manipulation, and domination and covenants against my life and that I've used against others. I break all covenants with hurt, with pain, in the name of Jesus.

I renounce all demons that came in through injustice done against me. I break all assignments in the name of Jesus.

Father, I come out of all covenants with all forms of bitterness connected to death, hell and the grave.

I break all assignments that cut off life both naturally and spiritually through bitterness, through hurt, through unforgiveness, in the name of Jesus.

I choose to forgive every and all family members and the saints who have hurt me, that have caused affliction, conflict, confusion, destruction, distraction and error in my life.

I forgive them from the heart and I ask you to bring deliverance in my soul. Set me free!

Every area of my will that's rebelled against you because of bitterness in the soul, I renounce all rebellion and I sever all ties to his messengers. You said an evil and a cruel messenger shall be sent unto him that is rebellious. I renounce all messengers of death, messengers of sickness, messengers of disease, messengers of poverty, messengers of failure, and messengers of affliction I renounce in the name of Jesus.

And Father, I ask you, deliver me from any and all witchcraft that's rooted in bitterness. I renounce all fornication and profaneness and defilement that's rooted in bitterness, in the name of Jesus.

Lord I receive grace for freedom. I receive grace for deliverance, in Jesus name!

6 Benefits of Fasting

When you fast:

You are humbling yourself.
You will see life's priorities more clearly. the Kingdom of God will become first in your lie and you will get clarity concerning your values in life. (Like Mary, you will be able to choose "the good part" and set aside the bad --see Luke 10:42.)
You will see balance return to areas of your life where there is imbalance.
Your selfish ambition and pride will begin to be washed away. You will start valuing and really appreciating the things that God has given you.
You will be more sensitive to God's Spirit, and the nine gifts of the Holy spirit will work more effectively in your life. Things will become very clear to you.
Your hidden areas of weakness or susceptibiblity will rise to the surface so that God can deal with them.
God will make you more unselfish. One of the things we need is more self-control. Fasting will help you have self-control.
