A golfer ran into a friend he’d not seen for years at the driving range one day. They talked about their games, their swings, and all sorts of things. I’m not one of those people!

To be honest, I’ve only ‘played’ a couple of times and it wasn’t really even playing – I think my average was about 6 over par (I think that’s how you describe it in golf terms?) and I lost at least three balls.

I wasn’t much better on the driving range. For starters, I had a 50% hit rate, and of the 50% I did manage to hit, about 75% of them went flying off at an extreme angle. An experienced golfer (and I’m assuming that because they were old and wore bad trousers with an even worse shirt tucked into them) gave me some pointers, but after watching my next three fluffed attempts he walked off, shaking his head with despair.

Needless to say, with me being rubbish and Tiger Woods bringing the game into disrepute, I’m not that keen on golf at the moment, and I was somewhat struggling to find inspiration for this write-up.

Until recently I really could tell you very little about what kids need when they are growing up to help their mental development, and more importantly – something to keep them distracted so you can get some peace and quite for two minutes. But now I have an 18 month old nephew I consider myself slightly better than completely useless on the subject.

The missile launcher application couldn’t be any more user friendly. It has all the essential buttons for controlling the launcher, a radar screen that lets you see how much further you can move the turret in any direction, a reset button to re-calibrate the turret position, and an exit button.

You can control the launcher by clicking on the appropriate buttons or using the arrow keys. If you don’t have the sound effects disabled a sound is played resembling that of a real turret moving. Pressing the fire button causes the launcher to enter its firing sequence where it charges the air up and shoots the missile.

During this three second period you also hear a warning sound, followed by an explosion as the missile launches and hits its target. After three shots it is time to gather the darts back up and do it again… and again… and again! The missiles shoot a solid 6 meters (giving you coverage for over 113 square meters of your workspace) and then skill becomes a factor trying to lob the missiles to your target.
