Help the Outlaws kick off the 2012 season with a bang!

As a result, the Outlaws are looking for a highly dedicated and motivated individual to help reestablish the club slogan – Family, Fun and the Beautiful Game – while managing an organization that will provide opportunities for young, talented soccer players to advance their soccer careers and assist them in accomplishing their goals.

Chance Bukoski

Chance Bukoski added another All-American award being named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team All-American. Bukoski has garnered almost every postseason award this year as HPU wrapped up its first PacWest Championship since the program’s restart in 2007. Bukoski was selected First-Team All-West Region and as a First Team All-American by Daktronics and the NCSAA. He earned First-Team All-Conference status and PacWest Player of the Year.

Kainoa Kahui

Bukoski filled the stat-sheet in the PacWest, scoring 18 goals and notching eight assists. He ranked second in the nation in total goals and third in the country in goals per game, points per game and total points.

Kainoa Kahui was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) being named as a member of the All-West Region Second Team. This was Kahui’s first time on the All-Region Team. Kahui anchored a defense that posted 11 shutouts, which ranked third in the country.

Michael Farfan (Philadelphia Union)

Farfan enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in his rookie season in Major League Soccer. Farfan, after having a disappointing MLS Combine showing, was drafted #23 overall in the 2011 Super Draft by the Philadelphia Union. During the first half of the season, Michael saw very little playing time but ended up being a regular in the starting line-up and ended the season starting 9 of the last 10 matches for the Union, scoring two goals and assisting on three others. He also played 90 minutes in each of Philadelphia’s two playoff games. His highlight reel game-winning-goal against D.C. United (see below) was up for MLS Goal of the Week, and he had a cheeky chip shot goal in the Union’s exhibition match against Real Madrid. Most recently, he placed third in balloting for MLS Rookie of the Year.

Chance Bukoski (Hawaii-Pacific University)

Bukoski led the HPU Sea Warriors to a share of the Pac West Conference title – their first – in his Senior season. Chance scored 18 goals and notched 8 assists, finishing his college career with 50 goals scored. He also led the Pac West Conference in scoring for the 2011 season. Unfortunately, the Sea Warriors were passed over for the NCAA Tournament.

Kainoa Kahui

Kainoa completed his junior season at HPU and scored two goals as a defender for the Sea Warriors’ 2011 campaign . Along with Chance Bukoski, Kahui was named to the pre-season All-PacWest team. Kahui started and played in 13 matches for the Sea Warriors.

The Ogden Outlaws have arranged an exciting opportunity to travel to Mexico to participate in two matches; one against the U-17 side of Pachuca and another against the 2nd division professional squad of C.F. Pachuca. A roster of U-20 players to be selected through an open try-out and special invitation, will travel to Mexico in October to train and be evaluated in game situations by professional coaches from Pachuca and other clubs of the Mexican First Division. These matches will take place October 10 – 14, 2011. This opportunity arranged by Ogden coach, Marcos Dominguez, potentially opens doors for those young creative soccer individuals seeking to move on to the professional level.

As a part of the Outlaws’ focus in developing young players and assisting these players in finding professional opportunities, it is our pleasure to welcome Gustavo Federico Guevara Montiel, who is currently the head coach of the Mexican 3rd Division team of C.F. Pachuca, and Ignacio Juarez Herrera, who is currently employed by the Mexican First Division side, C.F. Pachuca, as a professional scout. Mr. Montiel and Mr. Herrera, will travel to Ogden, Utah to work with, and assist the Ogden Outlaws in this endeavor. With their coaching experience and connections to the professional leagues in Mexico, the Ogden Outlaws will be able to continue to provide a high level of training for those players associated with the Outlaws’ organization.

The Outlaws would also like to thank Mr. Woutwesterhof, Director of Pachuca’s U-17 and U-20 academy teams, for this opportunity he has provided for the Outlaws to travel to Mexico. We hope that in the future a visit to Utah can be arranged and further relations developed.

It is anticipated that forward Elias Hatungimana and mid-fielder Korbin Tafoya of the 2011 Ogden Outlaws will participate in this opportunity. Also, by special request from the coaches of Pachuca, forward Andy Cornia will also travel and participate with the team.

ABOUT THE OUTLAWS

The Ogden Outlaws are a member of the Premier Development League (PDL) – primarily an amateur soccer league run by United Soccer Leagues. The PDL consists of 64 teams in four conferences and nine divisions. The Ogden Outlaws compete in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference – along with BYU Cougars, Ventura County Fusion, LA Blues 23, Fresno Fuego, Los Angeles Legends, Southern California Seahorses, and Orange County Blue Star. The Outlaws just completed their sixth season in the PDL.

The owner and head coach of the Ogden Outlaws doesn’t feel like his team came close to achieving the goals it had for itself during the 2011 campaign.

“I think there are a couple of words that sum out our season: inconsistent and mental lapses,” Hickman said. “There were some games we played really well throughout the season, but ended up losing because of mental lapses. There we only a couple of games that I felt we just didn’t show up prepared.

“We did end up improving upon our record slightly from the previous year, which was a plus.”

Ogden finished the 2011 season at 2-9-4, but played its best soccer at the end of the season, carrying a four-match unbeaten streak until ending their season with a 4-2 loss.

That unbeaten streak included the team’s first-ever home field victory over in-state rival Brigham Young, with Outlaws and Cougars drawing their four-match season series 1-1-2 for the first time.

“I was very proud of the way we played against BYU,” Hickman said. “They were some of our better games of the season.”

One extremely disappointing aspect of the season, Hickman said, was the team’s penchant for giving up penalty kicks.

Despite the 2011 disappointment, Hickman is already planning forward moves as the team prepares for the summer of 2012 and its seventh season.

“We will continue to train and play some tournaments with the players that are local,” Hickman said. “This should help with the inconsistency we experienced this last season. This should make the integration of the college players easier, and hopefully we’ll be able to play in May like we do in July.”

The team is also planning on having local tryouts for a 16- to 20-year-olds soon, and will be taking a U20 team down to Mexico to face some advanced competition and have a chance to play in front of scouts from several premier Mexican professional teams, including Pachuca of the Primera Division.
