He is a founding member of the notable pop/punk outfit the Leftovers, who formed in 2002 and released many acclaimed records and toured all over North America and Europe. Kurt Baker’s signature unique blend of ultra catchy Beach Boys/Beatles styled melodies under a relentless wall of high energy guitars and pounding rhythms have earned him the praise of Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout Records), Ben Weasel (Screeching Weasel) and Jaret Reddick (Bowling For Soup).

Kurt emerged as a solo artist with a “labor of love” solo EP, “Got It Covered”, (2010 Oglio Records). Produced by Los Angeles based pop genius, Linus of Hollywood, “Got It Covered” featured Baker’s take on some of his favorite Power Pop songs of the 70′s and 80′s and featured guest appearances from Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) and Adam Marcello (Katy Perry). Kurt’s love of these classic songs all had one thing in common- “a key sense of melody.. and melody has always been the most important aspect of music to me. If you have a catchy hook in your song, you can do no wrong. I’ve always strived to write music that is catchy and fun.. that will be stuck in your head for hours after listening”.

After a successful solo-tour of Europe in the fall of 2010, backed by Italy’s best Power Pop band, The Radio Days, Baker focused on taking his solo act back to the USA. A brief stint of shows throughout the Midwest brought together a group of musicians featuring Mike Bryne (the Methadones), Wyatt Funderburk (Second Saturday), Geoff Useless (the Guts) & Craig Sala (Planeside), to make up the Kurt Baker Band.

Kurt Baker is a singer, songwriter and rock n’ roll performer from Portland, Maine who has always gone by the famous saying “Have a Good Time All the Time”. He is a founding member of the notable pop/punk outfit the Leftovers, who formed in 2002 and released many acclaimed records and toured all over North America and Europe.
Kurt emerged as a solo artist with a “labor of love” solo EP, “Got It Covered”, (2010 Oglio Records). Produced by Los Angeles based pop genius, Linus of Hollywood, “Got It Covered” featured Baker’s take on some of his favorite Power Pop songs of the 70’s and 80’s and featured guest appearances from Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) and Adam Marcello (Katy Perry).

By January 2011, Baker had recruited longtime friends Josh Malia (The Taxis, Hi Fivin White Guys) and Kris Rodgers (Goodnight Process) into the fold. They soon returned to the studio to record the new “Rockin’ For A Living”, Kurt’s debut full-length solo album, due out October 25th 2011 on Oglio Records. As a special favor to Kurt’s European fans, “Rockin” For A Living” will be released as a limited-edition vinyl by Stardumb Records (Holland) and Torreznetes Entertainment (Spain). A tour of Europe has been booked as well as dates in the US to support the record.

When looking at what drives Kurt’s musical passion, he can pinpoint the second his life was changed by music. “The first record I ever loved was “Rubber Soul” by the Beatles. I must have been 5 years old when my uncle played me his cassette tape in his gigantic van as we drove through the rolling hills of Wisconsin. I’ll never forget the feeling that I felt when I first heard the opening chords of “Drive My Car” and the rockin’ shuffle of “The Word”.. even the melodic 12 string intro of Harrison’s “If I Needed Someone” hit me as something totally new and foreign. The songs in “Rubber Soul” just struck something in me.. it was exciting, and almost indescribable. I finally felt like I understood something.”

Quotes
“There are a couple of things I pride myself in, buy first is my ability to spot raw talent. The first time I met the Leftovers – goofy teens from Maine who drove ten hours just to play a free party in Queens – I knew they were the real thing. Kurt Baker’s got an ear for pop melody that only comes along a few times in a generation, and a true love for the minutiae and history of rock ‘n’ roll. I can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next.” – Jim Testa, Jersey Beat

“Kurt Baker is an amalgamation of all my favorite things. He’s got a biting vocal swagger (reminiscent of Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson), a comprehensive knowledge of classic pop music, a lovable Joey Ramone-esque personality and the songwriting chops of a man twice his age. I’m continuously excited by his creativity, positivity and prolificness.” – Linus of Hollywood

Wikipedia (September 2011) – Shonen Knife, which transliterates as Shonen Naifu, literally “Boy Knife,” is an all-female Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka, Japan, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock acts, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs expressing infectious melodies and simplistic, exuberant lyrics sung both in Japanese and English.

Despite their pop-oriented nature, the trio maintains a distinctly underground garage rock sound rooted in edgy instrumentation and D.I.Y. aesthetics, which over the course of their long career has earned them a solid, worldwide cult following and made avid fans out of seminal ’90s alternative rock acts such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross. The band has been credited with making “the international pop underground more international” by “opening it up to bands from Japan”. They have also performed as a Ramones tribute band under the name The Osaka Ramones.

Shonen Knife came back in 2006 with the all new Genki Shock! In their 25th anniversary as a group, Shonen Knife stay true to their “Ramones Of Japan” punk pop roots. Fans call this sharper edged release their best in years. The US version has been re-recorded in English, it features a new sequence, and it has a new version of the album art with English lyrics in the liner notes.

“The word ‘Genki’ means cheerful, high-spirited, vigorous or spry in Japanese. I’d like you to be ‘Genki’ with this album. Also the word ‘Genki’ is similar to the Japanese word ‘Denki’. ‘Denki Shock’ means ‘Electric Shock’. If you listen to Shonen Knife, you will get a cheerful shock. Have fun!”

The Japanese trio Shonen Knife made major fans out of Alt-rock’s elite including Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross, among many others. They built a solid worldwide cult following and have spawned new fans with their tours including Lollapalooza, the release of a Shonen Knife tribute CD, as well as new material. Much of Shonen Knife’s earlier material has been unavailable for quite some time and because of the pent up demand and to support their upcoming 2005 tour, Oglio Records has decided to re-release their first four discs at a very attractive price.

OGLIO RECORDS AND THE BICYCLE MUSIC COMPANY BRING
THE TELEVISION’S GREATEST HITS SERIES BACK TO LIFE

LOS ANGELES, CA (September, 2011) Like all great TV shows, the legendary Television’s Greatest Hits series is making a comeback. The ground-breaking series, originally released by TVT Records in 1985-1996, found the perfect reissue home with the offbeat label, Oglio Records by way of arrangement with The Bicycle Music Company. The series has often been imitated but the eight volume series remains the gold standard in television theme collections.

Oglio Records is initially releasing television themes bundled into “6-Packs” starting with “Classic Sitcoms” (9/6/11); “Cop Shows” (9/20/11); “Adventure” (10/4/11); “Classic Kids” (10/18/11); “Westerns” (11/1/11); “60’s Sitcoms” (11/15/11); “Classic Sitcoms II” (11/29/11); “Detective Shows” (12/13/11); and “Classic Comedy” (12/27/11).

Television theme highlights of the initial 6-Pack releases include: Gilligan’s Island, Dennis The Menace, Leave It To Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, The Honeymooners, WKRP In Cincinnati, The Mod Squad, Adam-12, Kojak, Hill Street Blues, Lost In Space, Captain Kangaroo, Merrie Melodies, Road Runner, Underdog, Looney Tunes, Bonanza, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, The Munsters, Petticoat Junction, The Dick Van Dyke Show, That Girl, The Bob Newhart Show, Family Affair, Secret Agent Man, Magnum P.I., Get Smart, The Tonight Show, Pink Panther, The Jackie Gleason Show, You Bet Your Life, and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Full album collections are being planned for release in 2012.

The Bicycle Music Company, founded in 1974, is a full service independent publisher and rights holder committed to exceptional, creative growth in the value of its owned and administered copyrights. Since its reorganization five years ago, Bicycle and its affiliates have acquired rights in catalogs such as Glen Ballard, Marvin Hamlisch, Foghat, Nine Inch Nails, Survivor, Cyndi Lauper, .38 Special, Marty Balin, Tammy Wynette, Hatebreed, Dwight Yoakam, Pete Seeger, Third Eye Blind, Night Ranger, Steve Dorff, Montell Jordan, The Fixx, Roy Ayers, Wes Farrell, Wayne Kemp, Ernie Maresca, Ewan MacColl, Phil Ochs, Arlo Guthrie and Sublime.

Oglio Records is a 19 year old independent label specializing in the fun and unusual. Modeled after the legendary Rhino Records, Oglio has released and reissued recordings from a diverse group of talent including comedians George Lopez, Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling (of Howard Stern Show fame) and Rob Schneider, as well as musical talent including Brian Wilson, Cyndi Lauper, Parry Gripp, Nerf Herder, BigBang, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Beatallica. Oglio Records is distributed worldwide by INgrooves/Fontana/Universal.

Codename: Rocky delivers a punk-meets-ska sound on Infinity that brings to mind early Mighty Mighty Bosstones. This is a genre that has hundreds of like-minded bands making very similar music, so to stand out in the ska punk crowd is a mighty task indeed. And unfortunately, Codename: Rocky still hasn’t reached the point where they stick out from the rest of the pack. It isn’t that they make bad music, this is a perfectly acceptable album of poppy ska punk. But there isn’t a single element of their sound that doesn’t sound like another artist, and that is a hard trap to climb out of. They attempt some different ideas, like utilizing jangly guitar on “Lifetime in the Rain” or going acoustic on “World to Lose.” But even that has been attempted before, and it doesn’t really make up for all the other generic ska punk that happens around it. Fans of the genre may find this interesting, but most others will probably not be able to tell the difference between this and a hundred other ska punk combos.
