Jewellery Favourites

I'm currently obsessed with jewellery, and also orange and lime green...hence the reoccurring theme throughout this blogpost. I think the colours are perfect for summer and also go with everything, therefore I consider as investment pieces rather than impulse buys! (Well...that's what I tell myself!)

All necklaces from Topshop apart from the silver Vivienne Westwood pendant.

The daisy necklace is one of my newest. I've noticed how daisy's are featured a lot in fashion at the moment, especially on Motel and Topshop. I thought this necklace was so cute and would look perfect with a darker coloured top!

The two matching necklaces are fairly long and look great on their own or doubled up. I was gutted with these as I bought the orange one full price, a day later they were both in the sale!...Typical!

The necklace on the Eiffel Tower (not actually a jewellery stand) is also really new and I'm pretty sure I've seen Millie Mackintosh wear it in MIC!

I love this little bowl from Urban Outfitters, it makes it so much easier to store some of my jewellery!! I've noticed they do a lot of cute ring trays and bowls at the moment, and at fairly reasonable prices too!

All of these bracelets are from topshop, the bottom two from the sale. The top three came in a set with two other bracelets, but these are my favourites. It's meant I look so co-ordinated with my necklaces and rings too which I love but other people might think I've gone a bit OTT! Primark have a similar set at the moment for anyone that doesn't want to spend as much!!

Oh, another item with a hint of orange...what a surprise! ...

These are just the rings I wear daily although because my fingers are so small, it's impossible to wear them more than a few at once because on most fingers they just fall off! Even the midi ring has to be worn as a normal fitting ring because otherwise it just falls off.

The three topshop shape rings came in a set and there are also earrings to match. I've left earrings out of this post though as I don't wear many now due to my ears just rejecting everything!! :(

Just a quick outfit post revealing my absolute love for anything orange/coral at the moment. I've really enjoyed using jewellery to brighten up my outfits recently and have two other necklaces of similar colours to enable me to do so.

I'm currently in the middle of handing in my final assessments and doing exams for uni, so posts might be less frequent than usual until that's all done. I wish anyone in the same boat good luck!

Revitalash Primer

I don't pretend to be a beauty blogger. I think it's safe to say I've stuck to the same products since the age of 11, and have never had the money to go experimenting. Whilst I may splurge on the odd Benefit product, most of my make-up is off the high-street, and that's the way I like it. But when QVC got in contact with me about this Revitalash primer, I couldn't say no. I may not use the fancy words to review this like other bloggers, but sometimes you can't get better than layman's terms...

I've only used two other primers before this one; 'That Gal' by Benefit and the Collection 2000 one. The Benefit one was my favourite out of the two because it really cleared my skin up. Whilst I didn't notice my make-up staying on much longer, it did prevent my foundation from giving me spots. The Collection 2000 primer was too thin and didn't do a thing...safe to say that was a waste of money.

This Revitalash Fineline Primer has to be the best for making my make-up stick. I'll apply my make-up at 8am and it will still be as fresh at 8pm. It also gives my foundation a really smooth and natural look. I've also noticed that it's brightened the look of my make-up due to the primer having a slight shimmer. Usually I would fault this as I hate anything shimmery..but you don't notice the actual shimmer of this because you're putting foundation or something else on top.

The primer has a neutral smell; something I wouldn't consider as a fault. I've experienced some primers where you can smell chemicals, and others that smell like soap....so this definitely tops that.

The only flaw about this product would be it's price. But the thick consistency of the primer means a little bit goes a long way. Obviously I don't have a lot to compare it to but it does the job, and that's all that matters!

AX PARIS EVENT

On Wednesday night, as some of you may know, AX Paris and etailPR held an event to showcase the new AX Paris TV Ad and their new line. I've never been to a PR event before, so there isn't much that I can compare it to, but with performances and dancers, cocktails, bloggers, a photobooth, half naked men, clothes and goodies...I don't think it would be easy to top.

There were definitely a few dresses I loved at the event, including a white sequinned number and an aqua cut out midi dress. But not only did I get to see the new AX Paris line, I also got to experience other newbies within my goodie bag. I got the cutest ring from The Bohemian Collective, Beauty UK nail polishes and even a Ryan Gosling colouring in book (it's hard for that not to be the favourite). It really was an evening of firsts, including the dancers and performers which absolutely blew me away (and no, i'm not talking just about the fire).

All in all it was a fabulous night. So thank you AX Paris and etail PR...I'll never forget it.

Tartan and Stripes

This outfit consists of all of my favourites at the moment. My boots have been worn to death since I bought them as they literally go with everything and as a plus, add an extra inch to my 5"2 height! I have also worn the top to death too! I love how the stripes are vertical on the back and horizontal on the front, and the way it hangs due to the kind of silky (that and cotton are the only materials I know...so it definitely isn't silky) material.

My scarf (also been worn to death) is something I wear proudly simply because it took me over a month to find. I had seen it in store and one of my uni friends had it, and I always looked at it lovingly! However I did the typical me thing and decided I really wanted it after it had sold out in store. So i trailed markets and every online fashion retailer for one similar, but no, nothing as nice as this. Then I found it on eBay (after typing 'tartan check scarf' every day for a month'). I was so excited that this scarf could finally be mine as i was entering my stingy bid of £2.50. Then it happened...AN EBAY TROLL was the previous bidder, and immediately he was outbidding me by £1.00. I don't usually quit, but there was no chance I was winning.

Luckily it reappeared on eBay a week later and it was mine for £0.99. Absolute bargin.

Flatform Love

Flatforms are one of those Marmite trends; you either love them or you hate them. I started off despising them, thinking of them as the kitten heel of wedges. They were not socially acceptable and they certainly did not look good. Then my mum got them, which made me only hate them more because they became something that I associated with 40 year olds (almost like kitten heels).

Then one day, she came downstairs in some black skinny jeans with her black flatforms and she looked gorgeous. Next thing I know, I'm wearing them on a daily basis and have started the hunt for my own pair.

Being so short, it's always good finding a shoe that I can wear during the day yet that can still add a couple of inches to my height. The four pictures above are my favourite flatforms at the moment, and I've just purchased the Asos one's as there is 25% student discount at the moment!

Like the scrunchie debate, I know some people will probably slate me for wearing these, but I love them for the summer months and how they can be worn for any occasion.

Going Back To The Playground

Frilly socks, checkered dresses and scrunchies.....sound familiar? That's because it's what most girls wore in primary school, myself included! But with frilly socks being bigger and better than ever, what's to say the scrunchie can't make a return aswell?
Believe it or not, I found this in the little shop in my local hospital during my scavenge for food and magazines. It was £1..25 or something stupid, and they had it in a gazillion colours but I'm not neglecting my polka dot obsession any time soon.
I know some people (including a few of my friends) would laugh at someone wearing one of these, others have thought that it's actually quite cute. I'm still not entirely sure, but I've been walking around for two days with this in, so if it's socially unacceptable I think the damage is already done!
Let me know what you think? Would you start wearing a scrunchie for summer!?

Polka What?

Whenever I think of polka dots I think of that god awful song ... It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini. I then think of Minnie Mouse, or some other childhood reference. I'd have never thought that I'd actually be wearing polka dots. This shirt was around £38 from Topshop, but i've seen similar ones that are a tad cheaper in other high street stores. Unfortunately my polka dot collection doesn't just end with this shirt, I've bought beddings, mugs, bowls, tea towels and another top. It seems as though I've developed quite the obsession! (That or I've gone back to being 10 years old)

The brogues I'm wearing in this post were actually a really good find for me! I'd seen on Lydia Faye Jones' blog that she had some similar from American Apparel, but I couldn't afford the extreme price that they were asking. Instead, I found these in one of those kinda tacky, reallyyy cheap shoe shops! I then just bought some ribbon and voila! Nothing beats a bit of DIY.

Groupon has always been something that I've heard people talk about but never experienced for myself. My flatmate recently found a teeth whitening voucher through Groupon and my word, it's been a month and my jealousy still hasn't subsided...

'Hear Muffs'

Listening to music in public has always been a bit of a problem for me; not because I don't enjoy it but because I get so carried away. There's the casual finger tap on the bus, the nodding dog effect in my lectures or even the 'to-the-beat-walk'...which the most humiliating out of the three. Due to the baltic temperatures that winter brings, listening to music out and about is sometimes tricky and one may be deprived of their 'travel dancing', so to speak. Headphones and hats are always a difficult combination as more times than not, they just fall out. So you have to choose; cold ears or music?
With these 'hear muffs' you don't have to choose. I just plug them in to my i-Phone and I have warm ears and my music playing. The quality is as good as any speakers I have ever had and with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, I can plug them in to pretty much anything!
I do have to admit that I was a little confused at first as I tried to put these on like normal ear-muffs e.g. over the top of my head. They would not fit at all and I even checked with my flatmate as I thought 'do I have an exceptionally large head?'. Luckily I was incorrect and these are meant to fit round the back of the head. They are really comfortable and stay on really well due to the adjustable fit. I chose this black snowflake design as it was just so wintery! What's even more impressive is the fact that the headphone cable matches the design as well, being black with little white specks on.
I have absolutely loved wearing these, even if it makes me look stranger bobbing along to music as there are no apparent headphones to be seen! A definite winter investment in my books!

Vivienne Westwood

I've always known about Vivienne Westwood but until I went up North, I had no idea how popular it actually was. It's funny how style changes depending on where you are in England; Camden, Newcastle, Essex....the differences are so apparent!

I first saw a Vivienne Westwood necklace on my friend Beth and haven't stopped looking for my own since. She had a pearl chain instead of the plain silver one, but I wanted something a bit simpler so that it would go with more.

I have to say, it's been strange wearing a smart necklace when I'm used to my Topshop collar ones that are about 10 times the size. It is nice having the option though, and would look so much better on my more formal nights out than a massive spiked necklace!

Topshop Nail Polish

Topshop make up is my favourite thing at the moment. I've bought lipsticks, highlighter ('glow' is absolutely incredible) and now I'm buying nail polishes! This one is called 'Daredevil' and is a dark red/burgundy with tiny specks of glitter. In some lights you can see this but really it just adds an extra shine to the polish, something that everyone is loving at the moment with Barry M's 'Gelly Nails' and 'Shellac'.
For £6 pound, I think you really get what you pay for. It only needs two coats and doesn't chip off in a day like some of the cheaper nail polishes. Plus, you get that extra cute packaging!

Has anyone else tried Topshop nail polish? What do you think?

RARE PART 2

This was the second item I received from Rare; a navy blue short sleeved embellished jumper. I'm afraid I couldn't do any scenic pictures for this one as I'm not in Newcastle at the moment but hopefully this still gives you a good idea of what the jumper is like.
This is the perfect slouchy jumper to throw on with a pair of jeans, leggings or some high waisted denim shorts! The studs on the shoulder give it that bit of interest without it being too in your face or too tacky. I've worn this to absolute death since receiving it as it's just so easy and goes with everything!
Something else that might be appreciated is the fact that, although all the studs are actually gold, the light and the different sizes and shapes can make them look quite silvery. I know so many people that hate wearing silver jewellery if their outfit has elements of gold and vice versa, so this really works for anyone.

FAUX FUR

So I've been after a faux fur collar type thingy majigy for a while now. I remember last year there being heaps in H&M but this year they seem to have all disappeared. I've been hunting on Ebay, Asos Marketplace and charity shops but haven't found what I was looking for, so I resulted in doing a bit of DIY.

I bought 2 mini collars from the H&M sale for 1 pound each and sewed them together. (This was a challenge enough for me, I'm no Gok Wan) But after doing this I realised that the bottoms were still too big, as most collars get smaller toward the tips. So I folded in the bottom corners and sewed the lining together so that the tips would be rounded. (I want to make them even smaller now, as looking at the above picture they still seem too big!).

There are loads of smaller collars still in shops if anyone feels like being a bit adventurous, I'm thinking of doing it in black also!! Maybe this could be the start of me re-vamping clothes, or maybe not....after all, I haven't shown you a picture of the stitching!

CHRISTMAS!

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas! I'm not really a massive fan so I havn't taken heaps of photos, but this is just a snippet of the past few days. The top picture is my dress from Motel that was a present from my dad. It's absolutely gorgeous with it's long sleeves, velvety feel and skater design. It has to be the best dress I've ever owned ... apart from my Rare dress. I really want to be able to wear it on New Years Eve but my plans are still unknown! :(

I spent Christmas with my mum and my sister, and we stayed in our PJs all day. watched movies and ate stupid amounts of food! We didn't have a typical christmas dinner as my mum is a vegetarian and me and my sister just arn't massive fans, so we had nachos and fajitas instead!
I mainly received money for Christmas to help me at Uni but I also got the Babyliss big hair. I've always struggled maintaing volume in my hair, even with extreme backcombing and half a bottle of hairspray, so I'm hoping this will help :) I asked for a Vivienne Westwood necklace as well, but I am swapping it as I got the choker one by accident!

RARE PART 1

When I was asked by Rare if i wanted to blog about a few of their products, I had to say Yes. I've owned the odd thing from Rare before, and constantly eye up the dresses in Topshop. To me, if something is selling in Topshop, it's worth buying! I chose this dress and a studded Jumper, which I will blog about soon.

As soon as I opened this, I immediately tried it on and ran in to my flatmates room. I was twirling and swirling like I used to when I tried on Disney Princess costumes when I was about 4, because that's what I felt like, a princess. I then knew that these photos couldn't be the usual white background, dull lighting, bog standard malarky...they had to have a background that was as beautiful as the dress.

Luckily for me I live a five minute walk from Newcastle's Quayside. Unlucky for me, the North is always freezing and being December, it's the worst time to go and take pictures with just a dress on! Everyone that walked past me did that silly 'i'm cold' move when you rub your hands over your arms and pulled a face that said 'you must have phenomena'.

The dress is strapless with a concealed zip down the back and ruffles all over. I styled it quite simply here because I didn't want anything to distract from the main item but it would go perfect with a clutch bag and a small necklace. I'd love there to be an occasion coming up so that I could wear this but not even New Years Eve gives me an opportunity! I'm going to have to just keep twirling round my flat until that occasion comes.

Just a quick Instagram outfit post for today. This top is my new love and is perfect because it can be dressed up and down! You can't really see it on the photo, but there are tiny little flowers embellished on the front. If my memory is correct, it is around £38 but for the amount of wear you would get out of it, I think it's worth it!! :)

I'm off home this week, a nice 5 hour train journey. However much I love Uni, there are things/people that I miss so I've finally given in. Hopefully it will be worth it!

I'm sure that I've said this before, but I've never really been a fan of Primark. I've always found their clothes to look like cheap imitations of clothes from Topshop, River Island e.t.c. However, being on an incredibly tight student budget, in which a £90 coat from Topshop is completely out of my reach, I have had to start accepting that cheap imitations might have to do. Thing is, the more I go in to Primark, the more I'm starting to absolutely love what they are selling. From their shoes to their PJS to their actual clothes, Primark seem to be doing nothing but impressing me.

I picked up this coat a couple of weeks back, falling in love with its fur hood (detachable) and PU panels. I've seen navy coats with fur hoods in Topshop and I actually prefer this Primark one! It also comes in black and burgundy which makes you completely spoilt for choice. I had to have the navy though, simply because it looked so good with my Zara bag. I may be starting to like Primark, but I don't think I can conform to loving their bags just yet. It's still about saving for a Mulberry, but in the meantime, I guess you never know!

I think it's safe to say that since being at University, I've come to realise that I cannot wear Jeans all the time. I've definitely done well, dressing them up for clubs, bars and restaurants and dressing them down for early morning seminars and food shopping. A month later and I'm starting to find them slightly intolerable. I recently bought a t-shirt dress from Topshop and loved how, similarly to my jeans, I could make it acceptable for any occasion. However since when has owning one of the same type of thing ever been enough? You always need at least two or three...

So this is number two...my burgundy fairlise flippy dress. It looks great with tights and a leather jacket or a blazer and heels. Its versatility meant that no persuasion was needed when deciding whether to spend 3 days of food money on this. The back was my favourite part of the dress and the cheeky strap across the middle means you can wear a bra without looking like 'one of those girls', if you catch my drift.

So have dresses replaced my infamous jean fetish? Perhaps not. However if Topshop keep bringing out these beauties I think there may be some healthy competition.

A NEW START

When you're getting ready to go to University, there is a certain amount of things that you get worried about. The first being that everyone in your flat is a complete weirdo... or a serial killer....or a thief. You worry that the kitchen will be a state and no-one will like you and you'll be living in complete awkwardness for a year. The second is that you're going to have a timetable that means your up at 6am every day, 5 days a week; no nights out, no lie ins. You also worry about being away from home and crying the second someone mentions their boyfriend, parent or even their dog. So if your flatmates didn't like you in the first place, they definitely won't like you now.
You also worry about what to bring; clothes, make-up, decor e.t.c. Personally, I was so worried that I forgot the most important thing, the most necessary thing that you need at University. I forgot my underwear. That means that somewhere in the country is a box full of my knickers that my mum has posted to me... pah!
I've actually been really lucky with everything. My flatmates are lovely, my timetable isn't the most depressing thing in the world and I haven't had any public breakdowns yet. I have been trailing around the city looking for Fairy Lights though, which has been my only problem as I can't find a single shop that sells them.
When it came to packing, there was a lot of clothes that I couldn't bring. I actually woke up this morning and couldn't find a thing to wear which is worrying because I thought I'd packed the better half of my wardrobe. I did buy a few new things for Uni though that I thought were versatile enough to see me through the year, for every occasion.

The horse print shirt was the cutest thing ever and reminded me last seasons Zara shirts. I've seen others in Primark recently so I might have to expand my collection (Especially considering Primark is going to be the only place I can afford). The only thing with this shirt is because I'm one of very few Southern people here, I'm worried they are going to think I'm one of those girls from Hertfordshire that is obsessed with horses and makes all their friends at Pony Club. (I'm not judging those type of people, I'm just not one of them!) It is the cutest thing though, especially under a jumper with the collar out.

BOOHOO BLOGGER COMPETITION

I was contacted recently about the Boohoo Blogger Competition in which you have to make up an outfit with a budget of £50. If you are one of the four winners, you actually win the outfit! *dreamy face*. The reason this competition is happening is because Boohoo made it in to the 'Top 10 Fashion Money Saving Websites' on www.fashionvouchers.com (Bookmark this if you havn't done so already!)

I had absolutely no trouble finding a gazillion things that I wanted on the Boohoo website but as soon as I saw this PU skirt, I knew I had to create the outfit around it! Last year there was an absolute craze about a H&M skirt similar to this and as usual, it went out of stock before I'd even heard about it. I guess I haven't learnt how to cut my losses!

With this skirt, I wanted to pair it with a casual top but not one that was too boring, so this sequin vest was perfect. I think the sequins and PU go together really nicely and would make a great evening look!! With £10 remaining and the idea that no outfit should be without accessories, I chose a simple gold necklace to tie in the studs of the skirt and add some more interest! Voila!

I know I went on Holiday aggeeees ago, but I've only just had time to upload my outfit posts :/ With getting in to uni and work and then Reading Festival, I can't believe how quick this summer has gone!

These are just a few of my outfits that I wore in Menorca, the airport outfit being my favourite. I saw that jacket on The Brantastic Life and went to hunt it down ASAP. I even bought it in a size 14 as it was the only one left but luckily my sister went shopping a few days later and found it in my size.

I really want to do a Reading Festival Post but took one picture the whole time I was there, so it might just be a few outfit posts instead of actual festival pictures. Sorry!

Being 5 foot 2, the 'Maxi' trend has never really worked for me. Even in petite sections, a dress or skirt has a foot long train and I look like a little girl in her mum's clothes. My 13 year old sister is taller than me which made me consider trying kid's maxi skirts/dresses. I may not be as skinny as a 10 year old girl but considering most skirts are elasticated, I thought there was a slight possibility that they would fit. So this skirt is from the children's section in Primark and it's length fit's perfectly! It means no more tripping over stairs or having to hold up the side of the skirt so I don't step on it. I might have to start looking in the children's section of shops more often; perfecting sizing and no VAT!

I don't do casual. In fact, I don't think I've EVER done casual. My signature daytime look is jeans, a top and blazer, the top's always being of blouse type nature or something that looks more smart than a basic vest or tee. Going out in a top like this usually makes me feel like i'm in a matching velour tracksuit set with a diamante cherry embellished on the back - something that I personally don't think should be worn in public, or anywhere that you may be seen for that matter!

This aside, I've come to realise that I don't need to dress up to go for coffee or pop round a friend's house. So this is my first casual purchase, a tee from Asos that was £9 in the sale. It's called a 'waffle' t-shirt, which i really don't understand because it doesn't resemble an american breakfast or those childish potato shapes I used to eat. But hey, fashion is fashion and if they say its a waffle tee, it's a waffle tee.
