Series: Forgotten Princesses #1

Author: Sophie Jordan

Published July 26th 2011 by Avon

Age: Adult

One of the most notoriously eligible bachelors in Europe is finally ready to marry . . .

For fiercely independent Grier Hadley, being the illegitimate daughter of one of London's most unsavory characters has only one advantage: an enormous, ill-gotten dowry.

Prince Sevastian Maksimi knows where his duty lies: he must find a well-bred young lady—one with a considerable fortune to her name—wed her promptly, and get to the business of producing an heir.

The last thing Grier needs is some unattainable prince curling her toes with his smoldering glances and wicked suggestions. As far as Sev is concerned, she lacks the breeding to become a princess. And yet one kiss from this arresting female is all it takes for him to realize that anyone else in his arms would be unthinkable . . .

Grier Hadley has a new fortune and is looking for a husband who doesn't care she's illegitimate when he gets her enormous dowry. It's a difficult task, specially since her skin isn't so light, she has freckles and a fierce personality. So it's not a surprise to listen Prince Sevastian Maksimi talking about her like she's garbage, but she isn't going to take it anymore, it doesn't matter he's the hottest man on earth....or a Prince.

Prince Sevastian needs a respectable wife and fast, so Grier is not a choice....maybe only for a couple of nights. But every time he spends with her their attractions grows and he wants to know more and more of her.

Their attraction was instant and hot, and I loved their altercations! Grier isn't like any other young woman, she doesn't mind Sevastian's tittle and isn't ready to throw herself at him. Sevastian is definitely hot but he isn't at cruel as it seems at first. He's actually interested in her and very soon realizes he wants to be with her.

Everything happens quickly, and after some predictable drama, the finally can be together.

Overall, I really loved this book, Wicked in Your Arms. Sophie Jordan knows how to keep me interested and fall n love with the characters, and it was exactly what I was looking for, a fun and sexy historical romance with the perfect HEA ending.

Age: Adult

A princess in hiding...

Dispatched by the king to retrieve his headstrong, errant daughter, Lucas Garcia thought this was just another day at the office. That's before he meets Princess Claudine Verbault, who's adamant that returning to the kingdom that banished her as a child is never going to happen.

A barely concealed attraction!

Hidden from the spotlight, the now-independent Claudia has learned the art of being the anti-perfect princess. But Lucas does not look like the kind of man to accept insubordination! If only she could bargain with this frustratingly immovable man…and give him something to distract him from his duty!

Claudia's life is not exactly a princess life, even when she's one. But she's happy that way, she doesn't want anything to do with the kingdom and the parents that abandoned her when she was a child. So that's why, when alpha male Lucas Garcia appeared to take her back and forget all her life, she refuses at first. But he might give her the money to continue her investigations...

Lucas is an alpha male-hero, very protective and with a rough past. He's very loyal to his kingdom so he can't understand why Claudia doesn't want to take her role as the princess she is. Claudia is very intelligent but too shy, she was sick as a child and abandoned by her parents, and she isn't going to forgive them soon.

Even with their differences, their attraction starts the moment they met and followed all the way to the kingdom. At first, Lucas didn't understand her aversion to her parents, specially since he has such a good relationship with her father, but in the end it worked out for both of them. I liked their romance, difficult because they were both afraid of their past, and I liked both of the protagonists had flaws.

I would have enjoyed it a little bit more if Claudia's drama with her parents would have been fixed. I feel it was left the same way, she just had to accept they didn't took care of her as a child because they were busy. It wasn't fair to her, specially since she suffered so much.

Overall, Princess in the Iron Mask was a enjoyable romance story, filled with an alpha male, shy protagonist and lots of drama!

Author: John Green

Published May 3rd 2010 by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back into his life—dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows.

After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues—and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees of the girl he thought he knew.

I'v heard so many great things about John Green, he's like the King of YA. When I had the chance to read one of his books, I choose Paper Towns mainly because I thought the cover was interesting.

I now understand why everyone seems to love his books. He has a way to create realistic characters and tell a story without boring you once. In Paper Towns, Quentin is just a normal boy living his normal life until Margo, the girl he has been always in love, open his window and ask him to help her with her revenge.

Quentin is exactly like a teenage boy, I really liked him and enjoyed reading about him growing up and daring to do more with his life. But Margo is a mystery, she's an intelligent girl, popular but bored with her life. I understand why she decided to just go away, but I don't really think it was an intelligent. Disappearing and leaving everyone was not only selfish but even dangerous. Also, I think I missed something in the ending. After all that went through, is it going to end that way?

But it was fun to read about Orlando, specially since I have been there and remembered a lot about the streets, parks, etc. (BTW, I don't think everything the stores sell there is junk, maybe because we don't have that kind of junk here!)

Overall, Paper Towns is definitely worth reading and I want to read more books from John Green. Not only I learned about paper towns, but Quentin is one of my favorite male characters in YA, and even when Margo wasn't my favorite, I can relate to her adventures heart.
Rachael Anderson is the author of four books: Divinely Designed, Luck of the Draw, Minor Adjustments, and The Reluctant Bachelorette. She's the mother of four and is pretty good at breaking up fights, or at least sending guilty parties to their rooms. She can't sing, doesn't dance, and despises tragedies. A chance encounter . . .

Grace Warren's life is safe and predictable—exactly the way she likes it. But when she gets roped into going to an auction to help out a friend, everything changes. She meets Seth Tuttle—a guy who unexpectedly kisses her then disappears, leaving her flustered and upset. If she never sees him again, it will be too soon.

A chance for love . . .

Weeks later, when Seth limps into Grace's rehab clinic post surgery, she immediately recognizes him. Unfortunately, he's every bit as frustrating and annoying as she remembered. Yet there's something about him that makes her second-guess her carefully placed boundaries even though he's everything she's sure she doesn't want in a man. But maybe Seth is exactly what Grace has needed all along—assuming she's willing to risk safe and predictable for a chance at love.

Author: Dorothy McFalls

Published March 7th 2010 by Barking Dog Press

Age: Adult

She was looking for freedom....

When the always obedient Lady Iona is pressured into accepting a husband of her father's choosing, she seeks out the notorious rake, Lord Nathan Wynter, for his help in learning how to standup for herself.

He was looking for respect...

While Iona is seeking adventure, Lord Nathan is doing his honest best to reform his ways in order to repair his reputation and his disastrous relationship with his family. Winning the very proper Lady Iona for a wife would go a long way to achieving that end.

They found each other.

The more Nathan tries to protect Lady Iona from running head-long into disgrace, the more he admires her daring spirit and unpredictable antics. Instead of returning her to the obedient world to which she was raised, he encourages her blossoming passions. Such a move is surely going to lead them both to ruin.

But for love he is willing to risk everything.

I downloaded Lady Iona's Rebellion free from Amazon a couple of days ago, and it's the story of Lord Nathan, who has a very bad reputation, and Lady Iona, who is the perfect lady. Nathan's plan is to win Iona's heart, and that way earn a better reputation and his family's respect, but Iona wants the exact opposite, she wants passion and freedom.

It's a game where none of them are going to win. Nathan wants to protect her, even from himself, and Iona is starting to fall in love with him, but is he also in love with her?

It was a passionate romance, sexy sometimes. Nathan and Iona were the perfect couple but sometimes too insecure, which gave the story some twists before having their HEA. But I didn't like Nathan's family, specially his brother and father, and I wanted Nathan to be stronger, he apparently had a strong character but with them he always was very soft and let them offend him.

Overall, I enjoyed Lady Iona's Rebellion, it's a good choice if you want to read historical romance.

Title: Dark Wolf Rising

Series: Bloodrunners #4

Author: Rhyannon Byrd

Published: December 18th 2012 by Harlequin Nocturne

Age: Adult

Eric Drake, a powerful Dark Wolf, has never trusted himself around human females—preferring to mate only within his pack. That is, until he encounters Chelsea Smart snooping around Silvercrest pack land in search of her missing sister.

Secretly, Chelsea thinks Eric is the sexiest man she's ever seen, though she is wary of his potent Alpha energy. Then it's discovered that Chelsea's sister is being held by a pack of vicious Lycans, and Eric heroically leaps into action. Now, Chelsea will risk everything—her body and soul—to surrender to the passion that will mark her as Eric's woman for all eternity…if they survive.

It has been a while since I read paranormal romance, but I really enjoyed Dark Wolf Rising. It was very hot and erotic, and even when it's actually the fourth book of the Bloodrunners series, I could read it as a stand alone.

Eric Drane is a powerful Dark Worlf who doesn't trust himself around the human Chelsea Smart. But her scent is calling him and he can't let her in danger while she finds her sister. So he decides to help her and finds himself caught in a fight of packs and human slaves.

The story is very fast, Eric ad Chelsea liked each other immediately and they relationship was very hot. They fought a lot too, both of them are very undecided and even spoiled sometimes. The other characters were ok, I believe they have their own books, but this time I didn't really think they were necessary. They were very judgmental about the relationship sometimes.

Overall, Dark Wolf Rising was enjoyable and I recommend it for when you need your sexy paranormal romance dose!.

Title: The Wanderer

Series: Thunder Point #1

Author: Robyn Carr

From Robyn Carr, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the popular Virgin River novels, comes THUNDER POINT—the highly anticipated new series that will make you laugh, make you sigh, and make you fall in love with a small town filled with people you'll never forget.

Nestled on the Oregon Coast is a small town of rocky beaches and rugged charm. Locals love the land's unspoiled beauty. Developers see it as a potential gold mine. When newcomer Hank Cooper learns he's been left an old friend's entire beachfront property, he finds himself with a community's destiny in his hands.

Cooper has never been a man to settle in one place, and Thunder Point was supposed to be just another quick stop. But Cooper finds himself getting involved with the town. And with Sarah Dupre, a woman as complicated as she is beautiful.

With the whole town watching for his next move, Cooper has to choose between his old life and a place full of new possibilities. A place that just might be home.

This review was meant to be published yesterday, but I think I schedule it wrong and couldn't check the blog. I have been MIA lately, too much work and haven't been reading a lot, but I think reading The Wanderer helped me get my rhythm again.

It started a little bit slow, just introducing the town and the people. But after a few pages I couldn't get more of Cooper, Sarah and Landon, and the rest of the town!

It's the second book I read of Robyn Carr. I read Redwood Bend a while ago and enjoyed it, and The Wanderer also shares the kind of characters that are making decisions, commitments, and taking second chances. It definitely has that family-romance thing going on, but I really enjoyed reading about teenager Landon falling in love, his sister Sarah trying not to fall in love with Cooper, and even the police officer Mac giving himself a second chance.

It was a very sweet story, and I loved the characters, even the dogs (of course!). But it also had a little bit of mystery, which was a good way to connect the characters. Thunder Point is a lovely town, sounds like the perfect place to have a family, small and beautiful and full of interesting people.

Overall, The Thunder Point series is definitely on my to be read list now. The Wanderer left me with a happy smile on my face and I can't wait to read the second book, The Newcomer, and learn more of Mac the police officer and Gina!
Unladylike Behavior

Frances Hadley has managed her family’s estate for years. So why can’t she request her own dowry? She’ll have to go to London herself and knock some sense into the men interfering in her life. With the nonsense she’s dealt with lately, though, there’s no way she’s going as a woman. A pair of breeches and a quick chop of her red curls, and she’ll have much less to worry about…

Jack Valentine, third son of the famous Duchess of Love, is through being pursued by pushy young ladies. One particularly determined miss has run him out of his own house party. Luckily the inn has one bed left—Jack just has to share with a rather entertaining red-headed youth. Perhaps the two of them should ride to London together. It will make a pleasant escape from his mother’s matchmaking melodrama!

Surprising Lord Jack is the story of Frances Hadley, a strong woman who is tired of the irresponsible men in her life and her liar aunt. She doesn't care to cut her hair and dress like a man, if it means getting her dowry and finally living alone. But she wasn't expecting to end sleeping with Jack Valentine, famous for his bad boy reputation.

Jack Valentine is not going to marry Frances Hadley just because of a honest mistake, but he's sure his mother is going to help him out of this mess. Miss Frances isn't what he's looking for, she's not really beautiful with her short hair and man's clothes. But she has captured his attention, and maybe he isn't ready to let her go.

I liked Surprising Lord Jack. It's a little bit predictable, with an heroine who was beautiful but needed help, a killer probably going after her, and a naughty Lord who actually is very sweet, but that doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy a good historical romance. Sometimes it was very emotional, Frances's close family is very mean with her, she's very lonely. But Jack is very close to his family, I liked his brothers although his mother should find another hobby instead of finding wives for her sons!

Overall, Surprising Lord Jack is a good historical romance, I really enjoyed it and if you like this genre you should try this series, Duchess of Love. I know I'll read Ash's story (Jack's older brother) if is available some day.

Positive: A good historical romance. Negative: Sometimes predictable. Interesting: The cute dog from the cover!

Author: Beth Revis

Series: Across the Universe #2

Release Date: January 10th 2012

Publisher: Razorbill

Age: Young Adult

Godspeed was once fueled by lies. Now it is ruled by chaos. It’s been three months. In that time, Amy has learned to hide who she is. Elder is trying to be the leader he’s always wanted to be. But as the ship gets more and more out of control, only one thing is certain: They have to get off the ship.

Why did I wait so long to read A Million Suns!? It was on my bookshelf for months, and one day I was out of electricity for a few hours and decided to pick a book.

Wow! If I liked Across the Universe, I absolutely loved A Million Suns. It starts right at the middle of the mess, the people is getting crazy, revolution, lies, murder, and Amy and Elder trying to discover what's really wrong with Godspeed.

Desperation! That's the feeling of the book. I just wanted to punch a lot of the characters, even Elder sometimes. Amy seemed to be the only one sane, but of course she's a freak from the Earth, what does she knows?!

The amazing about this book is that I think people acted exactly like they would do in this situation. People tend to turn situations worse because of fear, instead of trying to think for a solution. Nobody was really into finding a way to get somewhere, only Amy and Elder. I enjoyed to see them working together and discovering the huge secrets from Godspeed.

Overall, if you are looking for an interesting and original series, Across the Universe if you for. And if you read Across the Universe and liked it, don't wait like me, read A Million Suns ASAP. And have Shades of Earth ready at your nightstand because the end if a major cliffhanger!! I can't wait to read it but it will take me some time to get it from USA... ;(
Author: Jillian Eaton

Series: Wedded Women Quartet #3

Published August 11th 2012

Can a realist fall in love with a dreamer?

Josephine never wanted to marry Traverson. In love with a Duke, she had dreams of grandeur… until a lowly Earl stole them away from her. Unable to forgive Traverson for what he took, she has exacted her revenge in the most unforgivable of ways.

Traverson fell in love with the bright eyed, fair haired country girl the moment he first saw her. Entranced before he even learned her name, he used everything in his power to make her his, realizing too late love is something that cannot be bought.

Brought together by a mutual acquaintance, Josephine and Traverson must finally face the feelings they have been avoiding. Can Josephine overcome her tawdry past? Or is it too late to love a man who may have finally given up on her?

Josephine hates her husband, Traverson, because he stole her dreams of being in love and possibly marry a Duke. She can't forgive him, so she sleeps with other men.

Traverson fell in love with her since the moment he saw her, but now he knows it was a mistake to marry her and expect love. He knows what she does with other men, but can they still be together?

I didn't know what to expect from this couple. I'm not in favor of cheating, I think it's horrible and very difficult to forgive and keep loving after that, so I wasn't sure I was going to like Josephine. She isn't my favorite character, she could have handled it better, but I still liked that she always had a soft side for Traverson.

Traverson in one of a kind. He still loves her after all this time!! And is ready to forgive her but still gets mad when he thinks about what she have done with all the other men. But he is't an idiot, he definitely has a rough side, maybe that's why I liked him.

Their romance was very different from others, it was more about forgiving and giving themselves a chance, and I really liked it.

Again, Wedded Women Quartet series surprises me with emotional characters and a good romance story in just a few pages. Recommended if you want to read a different love story.

What happens after happily ever after?

The marriage of Lady Catherine Nettle and Marcus Windfair, the 7th Duke of Kensington, was declared the affair of the Season. They seemed perfect for each other… until they weren’t.

Now after three years of separation Catherine wants a divorce. She can no longer remain married to a man who does not return her love and is willing to do whatever it takes – including following Marcus to the secluded cottage in the highlands where they spent their honeymoon – to get what she wants.

Marcus can no longer trust his wife after what happened three years ago, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love her. Refusing her ridiculous request for a divorce, he escapes to Woodsgate, confidant his wife will not follow him into the wilds of Scotland. Unfortunately for the Duke, this is one bet he is bound to lose.

Forced together, husband and wife reach an unusual compromise: Catherine agrees to sleep with her husband for two months, after which time Marcus will grant her a divorce. It is the perfect solution for two people who claim to no longer love each other… or is it?

I remember reading a book from this author, A Ravishing Redhead, and liking, but I didn't it more thought until I found A Brooding Beauty free many weeks ago and decided to give it a shot. What a great choice!

Jillian Eaton writes with emotion!! Even when it's a short romance novella, the characters, Catherine and Marcus, are full of emotions! (and passion). After being separated, Catherine wants a divorce, and she's going to get it even if she has to find him in his secluded cottage. Marcus left because he can't trust her, but he wasn't expecting Catherine to follow him and keep asking for a ridiculous divorce!

Both of them still love each other but they don't know. But their passion in there, and after an arrangement of sleeping together for two months before the divorce, will they be able to keep their hands of each other? No, of course not!

I can't say more without giving spoilers but I can recommend you to read the Wedded Women Quartet series. It has real and emotional characters, full of passion ready to explore!

Series: Inn BoonsBoro #3

Published November 6th 2012 by Berkeley

Ryder is the hardest Montgomery brother to figure out—with a tough-as-nails outside and possibly nothing too soft underneath. He’s surly and unsociable, but when he straps on a tool belt, no woman can resist his sexy swagger. Except apparently Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper of his own Inn BoonsBoro…

As the former manager of a D.C. hotel, Hope is used to excitement and glamour, but that doesn’t mean she can’t appreciate the joys of small-town living. She’s where she wants to be—except for in her love life. Her only interaction with the opposite sex has been sparring with the infuriating Ryder, who always seems to get under her skin. Still, no one can deny the electricity that crackles between them…a spark that ignited with a New Year’s Eve kiss.

While the Inn is running smoothly, thanks to Hope’s experience and unerring instincts, her big-city past is about to make an unwelcome—and embarrassing—appearance. Seeing Hope vulnerable stirs up Ryder’s emotions and makes him realize that while Hope may not be perfect, she just might be perfect for him…

The Perfect Hope is the final book of the Inn BoonsBoro trilogy. This time it's Ryder and Hope's love story, although I can't say it was the most romantic.

Hope is kinds of perfect. She does her work, likes it and wants to give the best of her. But for some reason Ryder never liked her. Since the day she arrived, he was rude and sometimes mean. But there is a spark between them.

I liked Hope. I could relate to her because she wants to do everything right, and people like Ryder thinks she's perfect. She's not, but she's a great manager. Ryder is tough and surly, he just don't do well people. But he likes Hope and apparently the Inn's ghost think they should give themselves a chance.

What I didn't like was that their relationship seemed so planned. They were slow and overthought everything, even a little kiss!! It wasn't a -I cant help but fall in love- romance, it was very 'responsible' and every detail was thought in advance. That's why I didn't love them, because I think love can't be planned, you don't usually say I'm falling in love because when you realize it, you are already in love! Well, that's what I think...

The family was always around and watching too. Don't get me wrong, I love the Montgomery but maybe they should have give them some space, not everyone needed to know they were having sex!

Overall, I still liked The Perfect Hope. As the other books in the series, I liked the family feeling and the characters, but I thought Ryder and Hope could have been more passionate. Still, I recommend the Inn BoonsBoro trilogy, it's great for those days when you just want to read something light and sweet.

When I heard Scholastic decided to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Harry Potter with new shiny covers (source), I wasn't convinced. But I have to admit I really like this new cover of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by the artist Kazu Kibuishi.

Author: Thea Harrison

Series: Elder Races #5

Published November 6th 2012 by Penguin Publishing

Age: Adult

In the latest Novel of the Elder Races, two mates find themselves on different paths, torn between their duty to the Wyr and the passion that binds them…

Before she met Dragos, half-human/half-Wyr Pia Giovanni was alone and on the run. Now she’s mated, pregnant and heading south to repair the Wyrs’ frayed relationship with the Elves. Being separated from Dragos is painful, but for the good of the Wyr demesne they need to figure out how to be partners—in more places than just the bedroom.

In New York to preside over the Sentinel Games, Dragos is worried about his mate, but knows that finding two replacement sentinels is essential to show the rest of the Elder Races just how strong and brutal the Wyr demesne can be. But as the Games heat up, Pia’s negotiations with the Elves take a turn for the dangerous, straining her bond with Dragos and threatening everything they hold dear…

The Elder Races series has become one of my favorites, and Lord's Fall didn't disappointed me. I will admit I was a little bit scared about the title, but I was glad about the direction of the story and I think it was a great idea to write about Dragos and Pia again!

They have become my favorite couple of the series. Even when I didn't love their first book, I can't resist a sexy and powerful dragon, and Pia is really an interesting Wyr. I can't give spoilers, but I'm sure fans of this series will be happy to read Lord's Fall. There are several characters back, and a new very powerful enemy which was defeated quicker than I thought. But I was happy to meet new characters, maybe they will have their own stories soon?

Overall, you can't miss Lord's Fall. And if you like paranormal romance, you should definitely start this series with the first book, Dragon Bound.

I already celebrate a little yesterday with a delicious sushi dinner (since today we are both busy :/), but I'll probably curl later with a nice romantic novel. Are you going to celebrate? Have a wonderful day!

The Wicked Valentine’s Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of February 7-14 to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!

Sounds fun right? I don't think I'll be able to participate much until the weekend, and luckily I have next monday-tuesday free (Carnaval!).

Anyway, my goals:

Finish reading Lord's Fall by Thea Harrison

Read one books from by tbr bookshelf: The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts

Start a second book! (if I'm lucky!!)

That's it! Pretty simple, but difficult if I don't have enough time :/ Wish me luck!
