    <title>Feb 23: “GOITSE” Extraordinarily talented traditional new young band from Ireland at Ojai Valley Woman's Club</title>
    <link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ojaievents/~3/N67mBdqyR1U/event-detail.aspx" />

    <id>tag:www.ojaievents.com,2007://4689</id>

    <published>2012-02-04T08:07:30Z</published>

    <summary type="html">Goitse (pronounced ’gwi-cha’) is a flourishing, highly talented five piece band, fast making a name for themselves as one of the most sought after bands amongst connoisseurs of Irish traditional music. Their fast paced energetic playing has seen them enjoying a growing fan base through show stopping performances in Ireland, America, Finland, Denmark and even Africa.

The distinctive quality of their sound lies in the arrangement of well-known traditional tunes interspersed with their own compositions, which make each set entertaining and unique. The band adds their own distinctive contribution to their cultural inheritance with ease and style. Even with hints of continental playing and modern rhythms there remains the overwhelming presence of Irishness

Aine Mc Geeney is one of the leading young traditional fiddlers in a northern style and her sweet, charismatic voice draws audiences into the music a way very few performers can achieve.

Colm Phelan is one of Ireland’s leading young percussionists, and an exceptional bodhran player, providing new dimensions to the voice instrument.

Conal O’Kane on fiddle, guitar and banjo Conal shows superb talent and amazing dexterity.

James Harvey is simply the best young tenor banjo player about at the moment and is one of the busiest musicians in Europe today

Tadhg O Meachair is heralded throughout the continent for his unique style of Piano and Piano Accordion playing.

Goitse produce a new sound, and are leading exponents in their field individually. They have managed to help reinvigorate a tradition looking for new directions in ensemble and contribute to this practice in a unique and startling way.

Reviews and Publication recommendations:

Founder of Milwaukee Irish Festival: "Holy smokes!!! - I thought the whole bunch of us were going to jump out of our seats when Goitse played our Showcase at the World Music Centre at the University of Limerick.

Hotpress Magazine: "They play with an easy assurance that should cause those fretting about the future of Irish trad to rest more easily at night."

Irish Post: "Simply terrific...They are in my view an exceptional young band and if they stay together have a very bright future"

Ireland Journal: "they are bound for success"

Irish Music Magazine: “they have a big musical imagination and aren’t afraid to tear at the edges of the trad envelope.”

World Academy of Irish Traditional Music and Dance: "Those fortunate enough to be around them at such a special time will sense that.. Goitse is out to getcha. Grab hold of it while you can!"</summary>
