A surviror's Last tale

Hello again readership, Ea5e-95 reporting from North Seattle for OKIZOONEWS with this tragic story of hiphop’s demise. For years now, several “new school” rap artists have continued to confirm the death of the vivacious 31 year old sub-culture, named Hiphop. My colleagues and I at OKIZOONEWS are proud to relay that hiphop is not dead, but undead actually. In the late nineties, she was infected with a corporate-developed super virus which was being tested in record companies nationwide. Many successful rap acts were infected and tons fell to the clutches of the evil virus and haven’t been heard from since. Until now. A local Scientist at North Seattle Community College has discovered a mutation of the virus he calls Hipsteria. Several outbreaks of the mutated virus have been reported by military personnel. In fact, we have an exclusive clip of the survivor’s last audio log entry before he was eaten alive by the infected. Warning, the contents of this audio clip is extremely graphic, and may not be suitable for kids or young adults.

Happy Zoo Year Readership, hope everyone’s New Year has started off well. I took a brief hiatus from the internet to focus on some New Years resolutions I’m making. However just like today’s Cinema Saturday series I have returned. You know how this goes down every Saturday we post up some dope videos as a part of OkiZoo TV. Hope you all have enjoyed some of our favorite Anime series, documentary’s, and other videos. Sit back and relax and enjoy yourself, and check us out on Monday for The Boomin’ System.

Today’s Cinema Saturday features the epic Anime Series: Lupin the 3rd

Lupin the 3rd, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazuhiko Kato under the pen name of Monkey Punch. The story follows the adventures of a gang of thieves led by Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc’s series of novels. Lupin and his gang travel throughout the world to steal treasures and escape from the law.

Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the fictional gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin, is considered the world’s greatest thief, known for announcing his intentions to steal valuable objects by sending a calling card to the owners of his desired items. His right-hand man and closest ally is Daisuke Jigen, an expert marksman who can accurately shoot a target in 0.3 seconds. Although Lupin and Jigen frequently work as a two-man team, they are often joined by Goemon Ishikawa XIII, a master swordsman whose sword can cut anything, or Fujiko Mine, a femme fatale and Lupin’s love interest. Although Fujiko usually works together with the others, she occasionally exploits Lupin’s interest in her to steal a treasure for herself. Lupin and his gang are constantly chased by Inspector Koichi Zenigata of the ICPO, who has made it his life’s work to arrest them, chasing Lupin across the globe. On the rare occasions he catches Lupin, Zenigata secretly hopes Lupin will escape so he can continue to chase him. Regardless of whether Lupin and his followers succeed or fail, they are always looking for the next heist.

800Hosting Managed Host Scam

This is a warning to anyone considering using 800Hosting as a monitored dedicated server host. They have a GREAT web site and they sure sold me BUT my web sites all went down just before holiday season of 2009. Completely down so that I was out of business for 6 days with much data lost forever. Then following that failure of 6 days during which time we were repeatedly told “four more hours, one more day” we finally resumed at about 50% of our pre-failure effectiveness and slowly we re-built over time what they ruined in one minute! If your business can afford a loss such as that easily then please disregard this post. If not and you are still considering 800Hosting please read on.

I have e-mails, web history from Google analytics to substantiate my claims and am personally available to talk by phone with qualified business owners considering 800Hosting who reads this post and seeks verification.

At the end of November 2009, all our web sites went down. My staff from Asia and the US were all in San Francisco for a meeting and company outing. Since I was the only person working I was checking our sites on a Sunday night. I was shocked to discover all were down. Apparently our sites went down due to some catastrophic failure at 800Hosting and when I called to ask what is going on they did not even know there was a problem.

I had to notify 800 hosting they had no idea, and never provided monitoring. Previous issues as well, required us to first notify 800Hosting!

No Monitoring

We purchased monitoring 24/7. If they were providing that monitoring how could our sites all go down and they not know?

In their dealings with me and my company 800Hosting continually over promised and undelivered. This aforementioned monitoring is but one example.

Based on their website homepage we really believed we had found the solution for our hosting. We checked and they were well reviewed too. You obviously were impressed or you would not be reading my post. In my experience there is no relationship between their home page claims and the service they deliver.

No Managed Hosting

With the managed hosting, what we asked for SPECIFICALLY we were assured the health of the server would be maintained and monitored and we would be secure from malicious attacks.

However once the server went down, we had to notify them. They never notified us of any problem and often erroneously reported all was well when it was NOT!

Then they suggested maybe we were the victim of an attack by a competitor until they realized protecting us from that was also their job. Another exaggeration or lie.

During the aforementioned 6 days they repeatedly called or e-mailed us that everything is now fixed.

No Communication

When we would discover nothing was fixed and we were still down you will not believe what occurred. They disabled our E-mails claiming we were sending “too many”. Their excuse for that insensitive and bad behavior was we already know you are down and that and it wastes time to respond to your e-mails that could be spent fixing the problem. What were we to do? They called and said everything is OK BUT it was not. If we said nothing maybe it would never be repaired BUT when we attempted to tell them that nothing had changed our E-mails were returned. By this time we realized we had been had and were dealing with incompetents or people who at best were very careless with the truth. We had to contact them by phone, and when the tech answered they noticed it was down and question if we even had a website hosted at the domain that existed for 14 years.

No Backups

As soon as we noticed data was missing we requested back-ups. We were told they were already restored, but “this could not be verified until the server was back online”. I do not know why but at that time we still bought that. Wishful thinking I guess. However once we had FTP restored and we were able to view or site to compare files, we realized MOST of our images were gone and a lot of additional files were missing as well. 800Hosting had no complete copy of our websites and had NO idea what they lost! It seemed as if they thought they could mislead us to believe everything was ok when it obviously was not!

We had bought daily back up BUT when it came time for them to deliver our backed up data they finally said we only keep data three days! We realized however it occurred the missing data was gone forever and there were no back-ups. We lost secure customer data that is unrecoverable and cause a serious strain to our companies.

Four months later we are still replacing missing images and apologizing to customers for missing data that they must resend.

No Explanation

We were NEVER given an explanation as to EXACTLY what happened even though we said repeatedly that was a prerequisite to continue using 800Hosting. We said we need to know how it happened and what steps have you taken so it will not happen again. They said your request perfectly understandable and all promised to do that BUT never did so!

I asked our tech please tell me what we have to buy from you to be safe? They took days to work up a proposal which was unacceptable but what I remember was that when we finally talked on the phone their head tech asked, “How much down time can you afford?” Can you believe that?

I told 800Hosting IF I was making my original decision to use 800Hosting for all my businesses someone had told me one of the choices I had to make was how much downtime I could afford; obviously I would have gone elsewhere immediately.

Has anyone asked you that question yet?

No Character

FINAL blow for me was the owner refused to come to the phone to explain, apologize or tell me to go to hell. NOTHING from him. From my dealings with all at 800Hosting I believe it is fair to say they are an organization with NO CHARACTER and never did they seem embarrassed by their poor performance – NEVER! You know sometimes when something like this happens someone from the offending company will acknowledge the error BUT that did not happen at 800Hosting. They all seemed comfortable telling me that is the way it is. I guess it is their policy and they are following their leader. They did issue a free memory upgrade retail value $10-$15 USD WOW!

I realize this is my side of the story and there are always other sides BUT I left 800Hosting and I am still in business. My independent web monitoring service now rates my sites performance much higher since leaving than when they were hosted at 800Hosting. I do not know exactly what that means BUT I suspect it is another reflection on 800Hosting’s competence to do their job. We have changed nothing but our host and have already seen a drastic improvement! I am not a technical guy so all I can say is the facts are correct.

If you are a business owner considering 800Hosting and want to verify my story give me a call. I will talk only to owners with a web site that will identify themselves and their business. I will not spend time bashing 800Hosting to amuse others. I am in Bangkok BUT this number is a US toll free number: 888 842 4633. James Pants – Thin Moon

The retro funk machine that is sure to stay in the disco light for a while. Â ThisÂ particular track is a refection of Â hisÂ Psychedelic side, layed down with some deep synths and light guitar. James Pants is a Stones Throw Records affiliate, based out of Spoken, WA.

Mr. Oizo – Half an Edit

Bringing you theÂ glitchyÂ sounds that only a daft robot could break dance to. Â Mr. Oizo, meaningÂ Monsieur Bird in French , is a recent addition to the French Electro Label Ed Bangers. Mr. Bird is also a director with the likes of Â Justice working on the soundtrack for his current production titled “Rubber”.

My My – Secret Life Of Pants

Back in 2005, My My started out as one of my favorite minimal techno producing teams coming out of Berlin . As their production was all electronic it seemed easy to them to bring the much needed soul or heart others were lacking in minimal techno music at the time. Lee Jones, from England, and NicolasÂ HÃ¶ppner, from Germany, have expanded their sound and now incorporate many other influences into their music. Secret Life of Pants is packed with quirky samples that complement the funky baseline and choppy drums.

Jimpster – Dangly Panther

Jamie Odell aka Jimpster and Audiomontage is a old school house head thats been co-running his label Freerange Records for the last 13 years. I have always respected Jimpster for his attention to detail in deep house projects, always adding thatÂ subtleÂ jazz feel in all the right pockets of his tracks. If you are feeling Dangly Panther then chances are you are going to love anything else he touches, check him out at www.freerangerecords.co.uk.

Daedelus – Sambe Legrand

This epic, Brazilian dance flavored track is one of the true definitions of Daedelus’s production sound. Â Based out of LA, California Daedelus is know for his deep crate digging skills, mixing 30′s and 40′s jams with heavy synths and computer sex. Do yourself a favor and check him out on youtube, he is the first to use the Monome in conjunction with Max/MSP for live performances. Â Daedelus Preforming on youtube

Floating Points – Vacuum Boogie

Yet another new comer based out of London, Floating Points AKAÂ Samual Shepherd is exactly what we need in 2010. Floating from genre to genre his style rest somewhere between IDM, Deep house and soul. Peep his jam session on youtube…..the dude truly is an amazing artist.Â FLOATING POINTS JAM SESSION YOUTUBE I would also found a live show with Points, Olivier Day Soul, Shuanise and Fatima on the vocals. Pantha Du Prince – The Splendour

Hendrick Weber, better known as Pantha du Prince, Panthel and GlÃ¼hen 4 is a German electronic music producer and DJ affiliated with Hamburg’s Dial music label. Pantha production seems to always incorporate a Â heavy Detoit Techno feel, the splendour being no different as its a little more chilled theÂ fundamental detriotÂ industrialÂ sound still shines through.

San Serac – Music Never Ends (Morgan Geist M’s Music Mix)

Morgan Geist, from New Jersey, is another Detriot music pioneer,Â cruisingÂ the sounds on that big body Cadillac, fantastic voyage your mom and dad remember riding on…..let the music take control.Â Just a little something to bounce to in the new year….. hope the music never ends.

Basement Jaxx – U Dont Know Me (Solid Groove)

PartÂ Producer, partÂ remixing beast, David Taylor aka Switch or Solid Groove is no doubt one of my favorite house producers of all time…..let that be known. Switch coined the genre fidget house, fusing quirky tech house and hip hop samples with wonkyÂ baselines. Solid Groove seems to be more of the jazzier sides of Dave, but trust me , he has been very busy in the game since the early 90′s with 200 plus tracks and productions with the likes of Â M.I.A and Diplo …. all of his sides are dope. Dave Taylor is also one half of the Major Lazer a experimental Dancehall group signed to Mad Decent.

The Littlemen – Deep Squeek

The Littlemen are a duo from Nottingham, England. Both have been DJing on the UK free party scene, clubs and festivals since 1993, Steve as a part of the legendary Smokescreen SoundSystem and Gav as a member of the Giddy Fruit Collective. What the two really stand out for is the beautiful breakdowns in all their projects, melodies that really grab your thoughts and direct them to some sort of dance move….. do what you do, DANCE.

What’s good readership, hope everyone had a great Christmas, now it’s time to get ready for New Year’s. I’m not going to bore you w/ any of those end of year lists tho, so don’t worry. I figure with half the bloggerverse doing their “Best of the Decade” & “Best of 2009″ lists… who really wants to read all of that? In the words of Mr. Ed Lover, “C’mon Son”. You know what it is you listened to and liked this past year, and I’m sure just like everyone else you have your own personal favorites. There were quite a few good records, and I can honestly say 2009 was a good year for music. However, lets stay in the present and focus on the future. Check out the “Best of The Week”.

OkiZoo Presents: The Boominâ€™ System

1. MF DOOM – Air (Astronote Remix)
The beat is sicker than the blood in your stool (c) MF Doom. Some of you may remember the original version to this track from MF DOOM & Dabrye. However Astronote recently released a remix project entitled, The Remixes Volume: One. This beat really compliments DOOM’s style of rap, and I believe this new version is better than the original. From the spacey theme to when the beat drops, Astronote takes you on a journey. Check it out for yourself, enjoy the ride.

2. Thurzday of U-N-I – Not Quite A Christmas Story
Thurzday, a member of the crew that brought you A Love Supreme ventures out on his own w/ this solo effort. This track is reminiscent of Slick Rick in its vivid storytelling, which makes you laugh and actually visualize the tale unfolding. U-N-I is also anticipating the release of their latest project, A Love Supreme 2.0, although I’m looking forward to checking out the remix project. I don’t like the idea of remixing an entire album, why not just pump out some new work? We’ll see what the future holds for U-N-I, in the meantime enjoy this song from Thurz.

3. Reflection Eternal w/ Jay Electronica, J. Cole & Mos Def
Finally the CDQ for this phenomenal track from one of my favorite groups, Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek) is out. I’m glad to see Kweli back working on some good music. No diss to his work w/ Idol Warship, but I’m a fan of this version of Talib. Jay Elec comes thorough as usual and is on his way to best new artist of the year in my book. I slept on J. Cole but I have to say his verse matched w/ these emcees was adequate. He didn’t ruin the track, but didn’t impress me either. Mighty Mos Def ends the track off nicely, it’s been a great year for Black Dante. Hopefully we’ll see a new Black Star album soon.

4. Zo! & Asylum 7 Feat. Asheru – Gotta Live
Zo, who you might remember from his work w/ Phonte of Little Brother has constantly been releasing some good music. He teams up w/ Asylum 7 and the one of my favorite emcees Asheru. For those of you familiar w/ The Boondocks, you know Asheru is the emcee on the opening scene of that show. This song really delivers a strong message and has a positive theme.

5. Black Milk – Keep Going
Black is back and better than ever, or so he claims. This is the first promo leak for his upcoming album entitled, Album of The Year. Quite a bold statement naming your record that, but Black Milk claims that it holds a different reference from the one suggested. Basically the record talks about the road that he’s taken in the last year, the good, the bad & the ugly. I can’t wait to buy this album, Black Milk always provides excellent beats, the challenge will be to see if his lyricism is on the same level, judge for yourself.

6. Burn Rubber x Acapulco – Detroit Riots (Prod by Black Milk)
Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold teamed up for the Detroit Riots project. Check out their website Detroit Riots for more information and enjoy this posse cut featuring Fat Ray, Ro Spit, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, One Be Lo, Buff 1 & Fatt Father. To top it off this joint was produced by none other than Black Milkâ€¦ enjoy!

7. Carlitta Durand – Official
This song from the lovely Carlitta Durand’s Christmas present to us all entitled, The Doug & Pattie EP is produced by Vaughn Garcia of M1 Platoon. This is one of the best tracks on a pretty good concept album from the duo. Some might not be familiar with the name but if youâ€™re a fan of the Justus League, Little Brother, Skyzoo and Tanya Morgan, itâ€™s safe to say you know the voice

8. Dave Notti – Destroy
I featured Dave Notti in the last Let Me Put You On! post, here he is again w/ a snippet of an earth shattering track from DJ K.O.’s latest release Living Out A State of Mind Pt. 2 set for a digital release. The title of the track definitely suits the sound of the song, and Notti is relentless rhyming over the beat. Most of you may know Dave Notti for his production but be on the lookout for his next project that will feature more of his rapping.

9. Dwele – Eve (I Need You)
While outside everything is covered in snow, I thought itâ€™d be nice to shine some light on a warm soulful joint. Iâ€™m positive that Dwele needs no introduction, nor does the track he covered here: Dillaâ€™s classic remix of Spacekâ€™s â€œEveâ€. Dwele singing over Dilla’s production, you can’t go wrong w/ that. Little is known about what project this song will be on, it may just be one of the many Dwele tracks that have never officially been released. So just sit back with some hot tea and enjoy!

10. DJ Center Feat Oddisee – Leave the City Outside (Prod by Oddisee)
This will be the first single off DJ Center ‘s upcoming album, “Everything In Time” , dropping February 9th. The track features Diamond District’s own Oddisee . Gotta love the horns that Oddisee uses in the track, and I thought this was most appropriate w/ the weather most people are dealing with this winter season. It’s cold out there and the block be hot, leave the city outside and unwind to this soothing track.

Cinema Saturday: Black Lagoon Ep. 1 & 2

What’s good readership, thanks for joining us for the second installment of Cinema Saturday. If you caught last week’s post you already know how this goes down. We here at OkiZoo thought it would be a great idea to show some of our favorite movies, anime, and documentaries on Saturday mornings as a throwback to when everyone was a kid waking up early to watch Saturday morning cartoons. Hey we’re just big kids over here who love to have fun

Today’s Cinema Saturday features an awesome anime series entitled: Black Lagoon

Black Lagoon is a manga series written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe, and published in Shogakukan’s Sunday GX since 2002. The animated television series based on the manga aired in Japan from April to June of 2006, totaling twelve episodes. The English language version of the manga is distributed by Viz Media, and the first volume was released on August 12, 2008.

The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as Lagoon Company. Lagoon Company members include Rock (A Japanese businessman, and the lead character who was kidnapped by the Lagoon Company, yet overcomes all to become an integral part of the team), Revy (a.k.a. Two-Hands. She provides the muscle for Lagoon Company, and is exceptionally skilled with using firearms in battle), Dutch (The African-American leader of the Lagoon “Trading Company”. A deadly adversary who captains the PT boat Black Lagoon, and coordinates the crew), and Benny (A former graduate student of the University of Central Florida, he serves as the Lagoon’s technical expert).

Let Me Put You On! Vol. 6: Holiday Edt.

Happy Holidays readership, this is EL3G and it’s Christmas Eve here in the States. I figured due to the holiday season the posting may be a little light going into the New Year so why not break you off w/ a special holiday edition of Let Me Put You On! As always there will be two artists spotlighted that you may or may not know but should, and as a special thank you to everyone who has supported the blog I’m going to add some goodies to stuff your Christmas stockings with.

Now let’s shine the spotlight on the two featured artists for this week.

This Portland based producer/emcee and member of Thrilla Music Group is originally from Yonkers, NY. It’s surprising that his production style is so refined, since he grew up listening to his Jamaican Mother’s reggae collection. In 2002 he was introduced to Hip Hop by his girlfriend at the time, who schooled him on the culture and eventually turned him on to the production tool Fruity Loops. He quickly diversified his style and has since been crafting amazing beats and is on his way to a great career in music. I present to you…

If you’ve been following OkiZoo for a while now you already know that our crew is made up of members who participate in all four elements of Hip Hop, and that we express ourselves through each element with precision. We do it for the love of the culture, and every now and again we get noticed for our dedication to our crafts.

Artscenetv.net a website that covers the art scene in Thailand took the time out to interview Alex of OkiZoo, a graffiti writer who is well known in Bangkok. Alex has created commisioned graffiti pieces for Coco-Cola, been featured in magazines & DVD’s, and has recently shown his work in an art exhibit in Bangkok, Thailand.

Unfortunately the video is not in English, however you can still watch and enjoy the numerous graffiti pieces and artwork done by Alex.

Alex and his wife just recently had a baby girl, and he did this graffiti piece in honor of that. Congrats brother!

Before we get into it I want say thanks to Dunn-D for holding it down last week, and now w/out any further delay

1. Kam Moye Feat. Phonte & Ayah – Hello Karma
Oh you can beg and plead, but Karma is always coming back for you. Kam Moye (a.k.a. Supastition) tells a morality tale w/ this track from his recently released Splitting Image LP. Go pick that up if you haven’t already it’s a terrific album. Singer Ayah adds a soothing touch on the hook, and Phonte as always comes correct w/ his verse and comical musings towards the end of the track. Karma is a muthafucka, lol

2. Marv Won Feat. Bilal – Need To Know
There must be something in Detroit’s water system, because the music scene there is phenomenal. From Motown to Dilla, the D holds it down. Marv Won doesn’t disappoint w/ his gritty flow & word play, and Bilal adds his trademark vocal stylings making this song infectious. I won’t hold it against you if you want to put this one on repeat. Be sure to check out the brand new Marv Won album presented by DJ House Shoes, itâ€™s called â€œWay of The Wonâ€ and has got a couple of killer tracks on it.

3. Strong Arm Steady Feat. Phonte – Best of Times (Prod. by Madlib)
We all pray for the best of times, and this track delivers that sentiment perfectly. With Madlib on the beat this is an instant classic, but Strong Arm Steady holds it down lyrically. I must say that Phonte steals the show though. If I didn’t know any better I’d think this was a Phonte track. He delivers his trademark soulful sangin’ like only he can w/ the hook, and the witty realness in his verse tells me that the Phonte solo Hip Hop album we’ve all been waiting patiently for will be worth the wait.

4. TiRon – Still Never Happy (Prod. by Madlib)
I first noticed TiRon on the feature to “Paper” by Pac Div. This Cali emcee has come a long way, you can see the potential he has as he rips up this Madlib produced track from his latest mixtape, Ketchup. Be on the lookout for TiRon’s next project Handshakes and Pounds 2 coming soon.

5. The Roots – Baatin
This tribute to Baatin of Slum Village comes from The Roots latest release, “Sandwiches” from the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Show. Sandwiches are those jams you hear the band playing going into and coming out of commercial breaks. Since the show’s conception this past March up until today, The Roots crew have written 1,000 (that’s not a typo) of these fillers. ?uestlove the groups front man selected 22 to give away as a free download. 6. DumHi Feat. Reef The Lost Cauze – Paramount
South Philadelphia Producer Haj started making beats under the name DumHi in 2004, and trust me he still is, lol. I’ve known the homie Haj for quite some time and I must say he’s grown to become one of my favorite producers. He shines again on this track featuring Philly’s finest Reef The Lost Cauze, which is featured on FWMJ’s Back in the Game 2 Mixtape. 7. Mos Def – 24 Hr Karate School
It’s good to see Mos Def back on the grind and focusing on music. It’s been quite a year for Black Dante, who picked up a Grammy nod for his album The Ecstatic. Mos collaborates w/ Ski Beatz this time around to make â€œ24 Hour Karate Schoolâ€œ, another gem coming out of the DD172 studios. The Mighty Mos is his usual charismatic self on this track, he definitely sticks to the theme adding sound effects and a zen like flow to a stellar track.

8. AB – Kiss Yah (Prod. by Black Milk)
Finally some new soul music! Remember the Neo-Soul movement being huge in early 2000, what happened? Nowadays we sadly have to settle with an occasional album. Luckily I stumbled upon ABâ€™s new record entitled â€œStudent of My Dreamâ€ which is a breath of fresh air. On this song he really reminds me of D’Angelo, he shares that same mumble magic. AB’s new album, which is a FREE download contains production from Black Milk, 14KT, SlimKat78, and more. As well as appearances by Slum Village and Black Milk. Get this FREE download HERE!

9. Flying Lotus – Tea Leaf Dancers (HayZee Remix)
Some of you may be familiar w/ the OG version of this song, however Red Bull’s 2009 Beat Battle Champion from Amsterdam took it upon himself to remix it. 10. Dam Funk – Love Is Here 2nite (I Can Feel It)
From the album Toeachizown Vol. 3: Life, comes another groovy track from L.A.’s “Ambassador of Boogie Funk”. I featured Dam Funk a few weeks back in the third installation of the Let Me Put You On! posts. This man definitely lives up to his name as he produces another 70′s influenced, mellow yet funky vibe in this song. If you sleeping on Dam Funk, wake the funk up!

OkiZoo’s DJ Selrahc: X-mas Scratch

OkiZoo’s Junglist and Hip Hop DJ, Selrahc decided to spread a little holiday cheer by recording himself doing a little scratch practice with his cell phone(very sideways). Be on the look out for Drum & Bass mixes from him and DJ John Glist (say it fast) before the end of the year. Â Also a little message to you DJ’s who live at home with your mom and aren’t very good. Cinema Saturday: Tokyo Tribe 2 Ep. 1 & 2

What’s good readership, this is another new segment that OkiZoo will be bringing you on a weekly basis. Not only our we music junkies, but we love movies & anime so it’s only fitting that we bring you some of our favorite flicks for you to enjoy. I figured we’d do this one on Saturdays, as a throwback to when you were a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons, lol. As always the material will be diverse ranging from old movies, anime, documentaries, and more.

We start off this segment w/ the anime series Tokyo Tribe 2

Writer and designer Inoue Santa (Rinjin 13-go, Born 2 Die, Tokyo Grafitti) was already well known for his manga and his art before he created the successful manga title “Tokyo Tribe” back in 1993. “Tokyo Tribe” ran for a number of years and detailed the lifes of different gangs or tribes in Tokyo. Since Santa was born in 1968, he grew up on Hip Hop culture and was heavily influenced by it, he decided to infuse “Tokyo Tribes” with those elements to make it stand out from the other manga series that pervaded the marketplace.

In 2005, the “Tokyo Tribes” manga was adapted into a 13 episode anime series and produced by the world famous Madhouse Studios after the final volume of the series was produced. It aired in Japan back in 2006 and was wildly successful. Enjoy!

I really am a fiend for thoseÂ addicting baselines. Kaos on the remix of a Lo-Fi-Fnk track…..golden. You really have to enjoy this track as a whole as the direction of the track often changes right when you want it to. TheÂ drummy feal in the breakdowns, mixed in with some amazing horns are really what tie the whole track together. Is your T.V. stuck on MTV……wake the fuck up….Change the Channel.

What’s good Readership, I mentioned in last weeks The Boomin’ System to be on the lookout for City of God’s Son… well here it is.

â€œCity of Godâ€™s Sonâ€ is an experimental hip-hop opera starring Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden city in a jungle. This project explores the icon of the gangster in modern media, and weaves musical history and gangster film history into an operatic music based story of brotherhood and survival. An homage to 90â€™s New York hip-hop, â€œCity of Godâ€™s Sonâ€ is the redefinition of the remix. Featuring legendary soul singer Joe Bataan.

Let Me Put You ON! Vol. 5

What’s good readership, this is your man EL3G back on the scene crispy and clean. I was having some problems w/ my internet connection but I’m back, and here to put you mofo’s ON!

Before we get into it though, I want to give you all the 411 on what’s going on w/ OkiZoo’s main man in Australia. Ta-Ku is steady on the grind as usual, if you didn’t already know he dropped a FREE beat tape a few weeks ago w/ OkiZoo’s own Theron Noble aka DJ Jam-On entitled the “WE-RAQ Beatape”. Now, under his label Paper Chain, Ta-ku has released his long awaited debut album Different Spaces.

Ta-Ku’s Different Spaces features OkiZoo’s own Dunn-D & Precise, as well as appearances from Jamal Steele, Nobody, Arablak, Mei, Raymond, & more.

This album has been a work in progress since 2006. Ta-Ku took to Myspace to connect with singers, mc’s, and dj’s from around the world. Reaching out as far as Brooklyn (U.S), Philadelphia (U.S), L.A. (U.S), Atlanta (U.S), Toronto (Canada), Osaka (Jpn), Tokyo (Jpn), Gold Coast (Aus), Perth (Aus), Auckland (Nzl) and Germany this collaborative effort was all done through the internet. Every track tells a story. Each artist spills their words over the track telling the listener a little something about themselves, where they’re from, what they feel, and what they are about. Even though each artist has a different background and are from ‘Different Spaces’ they all come together on this project with one thing in common… SOUL MUSIC.

I’ve known this emcee for several months. I first discovered him on twitter while I was searching for artists to interview for my show on www.gtownradio.com He’s a true emcee who hails from East New York, and is day by day making a name for himself as Hip Hop’s newest shining star. Hailing from the borough that has birthed some of the best rappers to put pen to paper and lyrics to mic, this emcee holds his own with ease. Citing Canibus, Jay-Z , and Nas as his influences, his lyrical style mirrors their greatness while allowing the essence of who he is to shine. I present to you…

It is my humble opinion that eLZhi is one of, if not the best emcee doing it today. The verbal dexterity, cadence, flow, theÂ patterns, plus the sheer knowledge. Well maybe I’m getting to deep, but so is he over this Black Milk production from his “Leftovers” UNmixtape. So click the button and find out just how deep.

Mickey Factz – Flying Balloons

From Cookin Soul & Nah Rightâ€™sÂ 1:00 A.M. And Â Rising mixtape/album.Â Mickey Factz take us straight Â to the top over some Â plushÂ instrumentation. We like this version of Â Mickey much better than the Heaven’s Fallout version. Hoping for big things from the Bronx native.

Oddisee ft. Phonte – All Because She’s Gone

A track created by Oddisse and a host of others during his stay inÂ Melbourne, Australia for Red BullÂ Academy in 2006. The Jam Session went from Oddisee building the base of the beat and then contributions from fellow Red Bull Attendees. A nice hook Â and verse from Phonte of Little Brother, this is an instant classic.

The KnuX – Fire

The New Orleans hip hop duo of Rah Almillio and Krispy Kream, better know at The KnuX,Â definitely have there own unique sound. This one right here has that golden era, 90′s boom bop going on. Fire indeed!

Colin Munroe – The Fever Remix (J Dilla dedication)

Ontario, Canada’s Colin Munroe made one of my favorite mixtapes last year with “The Unsung Hero“. This song is a remix/detication to the late J Dilla over one of the greatest beats that he ever created (IMO). The Fever.

Sade -Â SoliderÂ of Love

What more can be said about the silky and mysterious voice of Sade. Sade’s last album was in 2000. 10 years later she has decided to bring us her “SoliderÂ of Love” album, which drops Feb. 8 2010. Here is the 1st single which also goes by the same name. She’s no solider anymore, shes a General that we would follow into any battle anywhere with music like this.
