If you've been around the site long, you know that I'm personally not a fan of fantasy baseball. In fact, I spend a fair amount of time during the season making fun of many of you for the volume of time/energy/emotion you devote to your fake teams.

With that said, I know a fair portion of you are passionate about fantasy baseball so I agreed to pass along this message from Yahoo! Sports.

Yahoo! Sports is the leading fantasy provider and home to the #1 Fantasy Baseball game available – all for free! It brings fans closer to the game and players they love with free live scoring, mock drafts, mobile apps, over 80 scoring categories, live and offline draft apps, and tools to manage your keeper league.

Yahoo! Sports now offers the fantasy fanatic an even more competitive way to play, Pro Leagues are here! Join a Pro League for $20 or $100 and compete to win cash prizes. For those who dare to put some skin in the game.

Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '12 is easy and fun to play for the rookie or veteran fantasy user.

Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball provides fans with top-notch information, resources, and expert advice.

Yahoo! Sports provides pre-draft advice clips to help you draft the best team possible. Fantasy advice is also available throughout the season with bi-weekly video clips and weekly radio coverage on the Fantasy Freaks (every Friday 8pm-10pm ET).

Fantasy baseball is the original social network, it is the way friends stayed connected over America’s pastime no matter where they were, Yahoo! Sports continues the tradition by letting fans talk smack talk, check'in, and chat on newly launched message boards.

Some things to read while demonstrating poor taste.

We're 12 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training, and we're starting yet another week without any level of certainty regarding Ryan Braun's situation.Tom Haudricourt (behind the JS paywall) is reporting that the arbitration panel handling his case has a 25 day window to render a judgment, which expires a week from today.

The Brewers did cross one item off of their to-do list on Friday, signing Shaun Marcum to a one year, $7.725 million deal just before the two sides were scheduled for an arbitration hearing (FanShot). The deal represents the exact midpoint between the two sides and leaves Jose Veras as the Brewers' only potential case. Veras and the team are only $375,000 apart but the team is reporting no progress in negotiations. Adam McCalvy speculates that their hearing is likely sometime between today and the 18th, when pitchers and catchers report to Maryvale.

In less newsworthy transactions, the Brewers have also signed Frankie De La Cruz, Santo Manzanillo, Eric Farris, Mat Gamel, Taylor Green, Zelous Wheeler and Logan Schafer to 2012 contracts. All seven have less than three years of major league service time so they'll likely make near the league minimum (which is going up to $480,000 this season) for their time in the majors.

Coming into camp it looks like the Brewer bullpen will be more or less set, with John Axford, Francisco Rodriguez Kameron Loe, Zach Braddock, Manny Parra and Marco Estrada coming back and joined by Jose Veras. The situation may not be that simple, though, and Reviewing The Brew has a look at what could happen.

Speaking of bullpen candidates, The Brewer Nation continued their "Brewers By the (Jersey) Numbers" series with profiles of Brandon Kintzler and Frankie De La Cruz.

They're not often credited as the reasons for the Brewers exceeding expectations in 2011, but Baseball Daily Digest notes that both Corey Hart and Yovani Gallardo outperformed their PECOTA projections last season by a fair amount.

Finally, the Brewers wrapped up last week's bobblehead announcements by naming Aramis Ramirez as the final honoree: His bobbles will be distributed against the Mets on September 16.

In the minors:

Seedlings to Stars compiled the results of six top 100 prospect lists and noted that six Brewers made appearances on at least one, but no one appeared on more than three. They also say Wily Peralta might be "the most under-appreciated prospect in the game."

Hiram Burgos allowed just one run on four hits and struck out six over five innings but was the tough luck-loser as Mexico beat Puerto Rico 7-0 in the Caribbean World Series. You can read about that and more in today's Winter League Notes.

Cream City Cables has an interview with Nashville second baseman Eric Farris.
It looks like voting for the #14 spot in our Community Prospect Rankings is going to come down to the wire, as Zelous Wheeler leads Orlando Arcia by one vote as of this writing. You have until 1 pm today to weigh in, and voting for #15 will open at 2.

Today's lone prediction/power ranking comes from The Baseball Index, who predicts the Brewers will finish third in the Central behind the Cardinals (division winner) and Reds (Wild Card).

Looking back, Jon Baas stopped by this weekend to offer an update on his Milwaukee Brewers Replay project, which has now used Baseball Mogul to re-simulate the 2011 season through June. This month's most significant development might be Mat Gamel's breakout performance.

Last week I mentioned that 2012 could be a bad year for baseball in several cities, as nine teams are projected to have a 10% or better chance of losing 100 games. I guess it's only fair that I present this opposing view: Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says 2012 could be the best season ever.

In former Brewers:

The Cecil/Prince Fielder situation took another turn for the worse this weekend when Cecil said he was planning to "take the high road" while being inducted into the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame, but then proceeded to publicly bash his son anyway.

(h/t @Mass_Haas)

On this day in 1969 Bob Wickman was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Wickman went to college at UW-Whitewater before the White Sox selected him in the second round (44th overall pick) in the 1990 draft. Longtime Brewer fans might remember 1990 as the year the Brewers drafted outfielder Larue Baber, shortstop Mike Carter, pitcher Donnie Blair and 40 other players who combined to net -1.9 wins above replacement (rWAR) in the majors.

Before Wickman could make his major league debut he was dealt to the Yankees, where he spent his first five seasons before coming to the Brewers in a five player deal in August of 1996. Wickman spent much of the next five years as the Brewer closer, and set a franchise record by closing out 37 wins in 1999. That's still tied for the fifth-highest single season mark in franchise history:

On this day in 1934 Henry Louis Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama. He was 18 years old when the Boston Braves signed him as an amateur free agent in 1952, but the team had moved to Milwaukee by the time he made his big league debut in 1954. From there, Aaron spent 23 years rewriting baseball's record books.

420 of Aaron's then-record 755 home runs came for Milwaukee, 398 as a Milwaukee Brave and 22 more as a Brewer. The first eleven of his 21 consecutive All Star appearances came as a Milwaukee Brave, with the last one also coming as a Brewer. During his time in Milwaukee Aaron led the NL in home runs, hits, runs and slugging percentage twice each, RBI three times, doubles four times, and won two batting titles, three Gold Gloves and the 1957 NL MVP.

Aaron, of course, left with the Braves when the team moved to Atlanta following the 1965 season, but returned to Milwaukee to finish his career in 1975 and '76. He was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 1982.

Aaron turns 78 today.

June has come to a close here in the 2011 Milwaukee Brewers Replay, and we’re ready to recap another thirty days of stimulating Brew Crew ball. With the help of a realistic computer game, and the input of online fans, we’re simulating the Brewer’s greatest season since 1982, and asking the question, "if certain things had happened differently in 2011, could the Brewers have made it to the World Series…. and won?"

So far after replaying 83 games, the Brewers sit atop the NL Central division with a win-loss record of 54-29 – second best in all of baseball. They finished June with a 16-11 record, three games under their performance in May (19-10). They are 10.5 games above the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs who are tied for second in the division. The Pittsburgh Pirates are 13 games back, and the Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros have all but fallen out of contention.

(see complete league standings and leaders; AL and NL)

In real life, the Brewers were 44-38 at the end of June, and tied for first with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In our replay, the Brewers are projected to win at least 96 games by season’s end.

After June so far, we can see a few interesting highlights starting to emerge. The most notable of these is the addition of Mat Gamel to the lineup. In real life, Gamel was a non-factor in the fortunes of the Brewers during 2011, finishing the season with 26 at-bats and a batting average of .115. In our Replay, he started the season on the bench, coming in from time-to-time as a pinch hitter. During June, however, (right around June 13th) I grew tired of Casey McGehee’s prolonged slump, so I polled the fans, and it was decided that we would sit McGehee, and give Gamel a shot at third base. Up until that point, Gamel had 7 at-bats, 1 home run, 1 run, 2 RBIs, and a batting average of .143.

Once in the lineup, Gamel was unremarkable. I started to wonder if things would remain that way. In terms of production, he wasn’t much of an improvement over McGehee. Defensively, he looked a bit better, but offensively…. not at all promising.

In our June 20th game against the Tampa Bay Rays, however, Mat Gamel proved otherwise. He led the charge with a 4 for 5 game, scoring 4 runs, and driving in four runs, including a 3-run home run in the eighth inning (his second of the season). The Brewers went on to rout the Rays 13-3.

Since June 20th -- the last nine games of June, Mat Gamel has gone 15 for 37, scored 7 runs, drove in 11 RBIs, and hit 3 home runs. His batting average during that stretch was a stunning .405. He’s played third base, and moved to the designated hitter spot for our recent inter-league games. So far in our Replay, he has played in 21 games with 67 at-bats. He has 9 runs, 14 RBIs, 22 hits, 1 triple, and 4 home runs. He’s hitting .328 at the close of the month.

At this rate, Gamel may have found a permanent spot in our line-up, all because Casey McGehee lost his mojo. Not bad for an early summer turn of events! One has to wonder too, could this indicate the possibility of a good real-life season for Mat Gamel in 2012? Perhaps. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Corey Hart has cooled off from his torrid start to the season. He’s only hit 2 home runs above the 13 he ended with in May. And his batting average sits at .255, eight points less than the .263 he posted at the end of last month. He has 46 runs and 56 RBI’s so far this season.

Ryan Braun has cooled a bit as well, although he’s added ten stolen bases to his total this month, bringing him to 44 on the season. In real life, he only had 19 stolen bases by the end of June.

Prince Fielder has seen a slight increase in production during our June Replay. At the end of May, he had 16 home runs, 37, runs, 45 RBI’s and a batting average of .245. By the of June, he sits at 21 home runs, 54 runs, 67 RBIs, and a batting average of .254. His 21 home runs are second-best in the National League, right behind Albert Pujols with 30.

On the pitching end of things, the Brewers starting rotation has remained solid, especially when it comes to Zack Greinke and Yovani Gallardo. Greinke finishes the month of June with a record of 13-2, 133 innings pitched, 103 strikeouts, and an ERA of 3.92. Yovani Gallardo has a record of 11-4, 137.2 innings pitched, 135 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.62.

In real life, both pitchers were not quite as good by the end of June. Gallardo was 9-4 with a 3.92 ERA. Greinke was 7-3 with an ERA of 5.63.

John Axford ends June with 26 saves, second in all of baseball to Brad Lidge of the Phillies with 27.

The Brewers will be adding some integral faces this month, and they’ll look to continue their dominance in the National League Central, while fending off the desperate advances of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs.

On this day in 1962, Dan Plesac was born in Gary, Indiana. He went to college at NC State before the Brewers selected him with the 26th overall pick in the 1983 draft. He signed just days later and by 1986 he was a full time major leaguer.

Plesac pitched seven seasons as a Brewer and made 365 appearances, 351 of them in relief. He posted an ERA under 3 in each of his first four seasons, making three consecutive All Star appearances (1987-89) along the way. By the time he left as a free agent following the 1992 season Plesac had accumulated 133 saves, a franchise record that stands to this day. He's the only Brewer with more than 100, and he's over 60 ahead of active franchise leader John Axford.

After leaving the Brewers, Plesac pitched eleven more seasons as a member of five teams before retiring after spending 2003 with the Phillies. His 1064 pitching appearances are the sixth most in MLB history.

Plesac is one of just two former Brewers born in Gary, Indiana. The other was another reliever: 2010-11 Brewer LaTroy Hawkins.

Plesac turns 50 today. With help from the B-Ref Play Index, we'd also like to wish a happy birthday to:
