Wow...I have been gone from this blog for almost a year.

That's what happens when life throws you a curve ball.

I thought it's about time to come and put this blog to rest.

We are still picking, dealing, and will continue selling at our shop.

But we are also making some changes. Changes that are good.

I believe in keeping things simple so I will continue all my posts at Old Time Farmhouse.

It's a blog about our sweet and simple lifestyle.

I'll also include our pickin' fun and finds there.

These photos are from over the weekend.

I know...no crates or barrels this time. What's up with that? :)

Fasten Your Seat Belts

Look who came home with me.

Precious cargo. A seat belt was a must.

Extra large and heavy.

And such a great price. It's worth 10 times the price I paid for it.

We bought it from Jeff at the flea market. We've bought from him before.

He didn't want to have to load this back up and take it home. Thus, the low price.

I'm keeping this piece and may use it as a prop for my soaps.

Yes, I'm thinking of adding old time soap to our shop.

I'm playing with the idea so we'll see.

And this will look fabulous in my dining room.

I haven't posted forever here.

I've been over to my Old Time Farmhouse blog.

And the month of June was difficult for me.

I posted about it here.

I'm taking a blogging break from Old Time Farmhouse.

I may do the same here or I may pop in once in awhile to show some pickins I've come across. As you can imagine, my summer schedule is full.

So I hope y'all fasten your seat belts and enjoy your summer ride.

And roll those windows down while you're at it to enjoy the summer breeze.

Odds & Ends and Good Junk

Have you ever found an old junk shop unexpectedly?
A shop with odds & ends and good junk?

It happened to us yesterday when leaving a flea market.

It's a flea market that is only held twice a year.

We found some great items there for the shop. And for me, of course.

When leaving the flea market, we decided to go a different route home.

So glad we did as we spotted some rustic junk scattered all about this wonderful small shop just down the road from the flea market.

You might know the kind of shop...

really tight spaces, you have to dig through it all, and you come out filthy when you're done.

And it is all so worth every minute of it.

We also had a good time talking with Frank, the owner. He's quite a character.

I know I'll be going back again to dig and find more good junk.

Auction Picks

Hey all you pickers out there!

Did you find anything over the weekend?

We went to an auction across the lake from us.

Cutest little log home and a nice selection to bid on.

We walked away with some pieces for us and some for resale.

The white rockers are on our front porch.

The cabinet with the porcelain top is for me.

I have no idea where it will go, but I'll find a spot for it soon.

Would you believe I only paid $30 for that cabinet?

So happy that pickin' season is in full swing again!

Pickin' Barn Wood

Poor ole' guy.

He's old and falling apart.

At my age, I can understand that.

We gathered up some of the wood over the weekend.

Barn wood is not a new passion of mine.

I've obsessed over it for years...37 years to be exact.

It all started with a friend's barn back then.

We picked the wood and made some projects.

So the obsession continues.

And so do the projects.

Just wondering...what do you think of barn wood?

This looks like a good haul full of pickins' that is coming into our home.

But actually, these items are going out.

But just temporarily.

There's a family wedding next month.

It will be a vintage affair and down on the farm.

How fun!

I told my nephew and his bride to be to come on over and shop my basement.

We had a good time while they enjoyed digging through the goodies we have stored.

By the time we were all finished, we had a good sized truck load.

I can't wait to see it all come together as they have some great ideas.

I'll take lots of pictures and I'll share them here. Promise.

But for now...have a pickin' cool weekend!

You may call me crazy, but my granddaughter will be turning 1 next month.

I've been looking for a special bank for her before she was even born.

This will be perfect to house the change we give her.

She will have her first vintage piece.

I know I'd be thrilled if someone gave one to me for my birthday.

It's almost here in full force! Pickin' season! Yes!

Spring weather is (almost) here so let the festivities begin and the treasures be found.

Just wanted to show some goodies that we found recently.

We always have crates. I think we should have named our shop 'Crates R Us".

But I must say...I'm likin' those signs.

Wood! It's beautiful barn wood!

Whoo-hoo!

A whole truckload. And it is super heavy oak.

Some will be for projects for the Old Time Farmhouse shop.

And there are some perfect pieces for me to build my Old Time Cottage.

That is what I'm calling it. It will be my special outdoor place to sit and chill with nature while overlooking the lake. Did I say whoo-hoo, yet!?!

The old, thick, and chunky piece?

I showed you this clipboard in my last post and said it wouldn't last long in the shop.

I was right. It sold that same day. I'm hoping it goes to someone that loves it as much as I do. That was a hard piece to let go.

On another note, we just received the 2013 schedule for our favorite flea market.

Yes! When you're a picker, the winter months are hard and slow.

I'm really ready to get back out there!

Yes, it's old. They just don't make them like this anymore.

And it is thick. About 3/4" thick.

It's now in the shop.

It may not be there long.

It will either sell quickly or I'll pull it out cause I want it for myself.

That's the problem with being a shop owner.

We went pickin' last weekend and this is all we got.

Some wood and more wood.

With the start of the new year, so is a new start with the business.

Besides our Old Time Pickers shop which is filled with rust & crust & weathered & worn decor and design, we will soon be making items with a sweet and simple farmhouse style for our new
Old Time Farmhouse shop.

It's been hard to determine what we want to make because the possibilities are endless.

We've decided to stick with what we know.
Years ago, we made a selection of country items and sold them at shows.
It was a great side business for us and we enjoyed it.
They say you should do what you love. So be it!

Grand opening is planned for March 1.
I'll keep you updated.

Fill in the blanks above with the letter 'a'.

You know what I'm talkin' about.

A subject that is and always has been at the forefront for me.

It's a subject I've been ranting and raving about forever.

I remember at a party some years ago, I was laughed at for my view.

My view, way back then, was that we needed to be careful.

We could all find ourselves losing jobs here in the U.S. to overseas.

And then my family was affected personally.

My hubby's company closed some years back to move their operations to Chin*.

Sigh. So you can understand my attitude with M*de in Chin*.

So imagine my surprise when we went pickin' this past weekend.
We went to a nearby town that is well known for having antique shops.
What we discovered was that the number of antiques and vintage items has dwindled down to almost nothing.

The once adorable shops that lured us in are now stocked with M*de in Chin*.
If that is what I was looking for, I'd go fight the crowds in the big department stores.
Talk about disappointment. It seems to be happening more and more.

We did find...
1. A (broken) vintage stamp holder that needs a little TLC.
2. A cute, handmade apron with a heart pocket.
3. A wooden spoon which makes me wonder its true origin even though its tag stated handmade.

I can hardly wait for the warmer weather again so we can hit the road and do some real pickin'!
