Rolling Stone put Olivia Rodrigo, Doechii, Chappell Roan and Sarah McLachlan together to tell the story of Daisy Chain Fields, the all-women festival Rodrigo threw at Great Park in Irvine on August 30th that sold out in half an hour and then delivered Bikini Kill, Mitski, Santigold, The Breeders, Garbage, Rachel Chinouriri and Die Spitz before Rodrigo took the stage.

When she finally did, she brought out Sarah McLachlan, then Alanis Morissette, then Stevie Nicks. Casual!

XXXXX is giving us echoes from another realm, with exiled alien species, glowing mineral crystals, and floating flora. The sound perfectly captures a dark landscape with pops of neon. Leave it to Peaches to look at a song called “You’re Alright” and decide the correct visual accompaniment is a Peabody-winning documentarian and Russia’s most confrontational latex creature. Galdanova directed Queendom, the film that followed Marvin through Magadan, St. Petersburg, a Navalny protest and eventually exile in Paris, all of it in platform heels and white face paint while strangers screamed. So this is not a “hire a cool director for the vibes” situation. These three have spent their entire careers making people uncomfortable on purpose, and now they’ve formed a little committee about it.

“You’re Alright” comes off No Lube So Rude, which arrived back in February and remains the funniest album title of the year. Check out the video above!

To be honest, I didn’t hate it! ——There’s something to celebrate!

Tom Hardy has released a rap album. No single, no announcement, no press cycle. Sixteen tracks, that came out today, and the lyrics are XXXplicit enough that we are not quoting them here. Have *some* CLASS!

A meaningful portion of the record is about Kathy Bates. Not in a vague, admiring way. Specifically.

The album also features Bane. As in, Hardy does the voice on his own song, credited as a guest. The verse is largely unintelligible, which is either the joke or simply how it came out. Bates has not commented. We assume she will not, and we assume that is the correct call.

“The straight boys might talk shit about you online, but either they don’t care or they don’t get it as bad,”

he said, laying out how women and queer artists get punished for the same missteps straight men walk away from clean, all while getting told to reinvent themselves every era just to stay in the conversation.

He also discusses his fourth album, She’s the Best, arrives October 9.

Hudson Williams has been announced as global ambassador for Korean skincare brand SKIN1004.

SKIN1004 wasn’t discovering a new fan so much as formalizing one, since Williams had been publicly using and namechecking the brand since 2025, long before anyone put him on a contract. The rollout sent him to the brand’s Myeongdong flagship in Seoul this July for a photo booth, a full product run, and his own bundle, the Camera-Ready Pore Routine Set, built around the Poremizing Quick Clay Stick Mask and the Centella Ampoule. This is round two for Senate Bill 12, the 2023 law banning “sexually oriented performances” in front of minors that everyone involved understood to mean drag.

Hittner already struck it down once, back in September 2023, before the Fifth Circuit revived it and let Texas start enforcing it this past March. Now the same judge has blocked it again, ruling that the law’s definitions are so vague and sweeping that they amount to content and viewpoint discrimination, the exact thing the First Amendment exists to prevent.

A federal judge had to sit down, review the case law, and formally issue the legal opinion that if you don’t like drag shows you can simply not buy a ticket. Somewhere a queen is lip-syncing to the sound of a gavel.

Dolly Parton died Tuesday, August 25, in Nashville. She was 80. Her representatives confirmed the news, as did a video posted by her nephew Bryan Seaver. The family said she went peacefully.

There is no good way to write this sentence, so here it is: one of the most beloved women in popular music is gone.

She was very clear that the wigs and the heels and the tight sequinned everything came from a real place: a woman back home who wore too much makeup and looked, to a small girl, like the most glamorous creature on earth. Dolly built her entire public self on that memory and then defended it with jokes so good you forgot they were also a defense.

“It takes all I make to keep up my appearance.”

She said versions of that for fifty years, to arenas, on talk shows, in her own theme park. The bit worked because she was the one telling it. Nobody ever got to make that joke first. RIP to one of the greatest of all time!
