Looks like Sprint is rolling out an OTA today to the HTC One to fix a few bugs here and there and address some issues since the phone launched.  It’s nothing major by any means, but will likely relieve the headaches for some users.  If you haven’t seen the notice to update your device already, you should see it soon as these always roll out in stages.  From the Sprint Community:

I love seeing new devices get announced.  I love it more when they have a pretty solid hardware build with a price that won’t bend you over without taking you to dinner first.

Archos today announces their 80 Xenon tablet, and for a price of $199 there’s not much to complain about.  This one is coming with an 8″ IPS display (1024×768), a Snapdragon S4 1.2 GHz quad-core, Android 4.1 Jellybean, front and rear cameras, GPS, and WiFi.  The cameras are nothing to brag about, being 2MP on the back and what’s listed just as a “webcam” on the front.  But hey, who really wants to be that creepy guy taking pics out in public on a tablet?  Well, maybe if you’re one of those Apple guys.  To keep you portable, it’s un-SIM-locked so it will accept any 3G SIM card.  The internal memory isn’t massive by any standards.  It comes with 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal memory, but includes a Micro SD slow that will support up to 64GB.  That should more than compensate for your storage needs.

This one won’t be the end all of tablets, or something that will blow the roof off your house.  It will however give you a solid build and good price point.  Archos will be launching the 80 Xenon in June for only $199.

During Google’s keynote yesterday at I/O 13, the team unveiled a lot of new and updated services that should be hitting all of us relatively soon, get excited! The apps and services that we will be talking about include Play Music, Books, Talk/Hangouts and more. Be sure to keep a watch on all these apps over the next few months, as we will, to spot any new feature.

Let’s get into all the details unveiled from the keynote:

Hangouts (Replaces Talk)

Play Music/All Access

Play Music received, what I consider the biggest and sexiest update of all these apps, and it included a new service packaged along with it dubbed ‘All Access’. All Access is Google new subscription service similar to Spotify but with Google’s library. The service is 10$ a month with a 30-day free trial, although you can get it at a discount of 8$ a month if you sign up before the 30th of June. This is a real step forward for Google and I bet it lighting a real fire under the asses of Pandora, Rdio, and Spotify. This update also subtly kills support for the Nexus Q. Also check out the other changes to the Play Music app below:

Support for reading your own PDF or EPUB files. You can upload the files through our website play.google.com/books/uploads, and read them on all your devices.
Refreshed design including the library, Table Of Contents view and the recommendation page at the end of books.
A confirmation dialog to prevent you from accidentally un-downloading a book.
Stability and performance improvements.

Google Search

More than just the Search app got updated yesterday, the service will soon give more information on the desktop end and will also be able to respond to keywords ‘Ok, Google’ (similar to Ok, Glass). We do get several new information cards in this update and the ability to add reminders instead of just alarms, which is a great addition.

What’s in this version:

For Android 4.1+ (Jelly Bean):
- Reminders (e.g. say “remind me to buy milk this evening”, “remind me to take out the trash when I get home”)
- Upcoming books, music albums, tv shows and video games you may like
- Real time public transit updates (select cities)
- Last train home (Japan only)

Maps (Preview)

The Maps app hasn’t yet updated but Google showed us a preview of the new desktop and mobile experience that we all shall be receiving soon. The mobile app will look more like the iOS version in terms of aesthetics. The update will be massive though in terms of functions, added features such as: new user ratings instead of Zagat ratings, new place-cards look, friend-based locations, dedicated tablet UI, updated navigation and more! Even though the update isn’t scheduled until the summer, make sure you have the app from below. Also, sign up HERE to be one of the first to get the desktop Maps update.

YouTube For Google TV

Google TV wasn’t left out of first day activities for I/O, the system got updated to the latest version of Android 4.2.2 and along with that the dedicated YouTube app also receive a pretty major update. The update includes new UI, new playback controls, and support for paid subscription channels.The official changelog and update  is below:

- New home screen interface.
- Enhanced video playback controls.
- Support for paid subscriptions.

We finally officially found out yesterday that Google Hangouts (what was once Babel) is real and it is Google’s first step in unifying our messaging service on the platform. Unfortunately it is not the end all to all the different service as of yet but it does kill off talk (and soon Messenger perhaps) in becoming the unification that it needs to be. What’s all included and what will be including in the service will be discussed below so keep reading!

According to Google, Hangouts is:

Hangouts brings one-on-one and group conversations to life with photos, emoji, and video calls for free. Connect with friends across computers, Android and Apple devices. Brought to you by Google.

And that’s exactly what you can think of it as, as of right now. It’s basically a talk and messenger merger, that will overtake both services soon. You can send a picture to many groups or individual friends, start video calls, or simply just chat. You can also use one of the over 9000!!! 800 emoji that are included with the app, if you find that necessary…

The service is also cross-platform that way you can message people on iDevices or on the web is you choose to do so, this also works with groups ( a real plus and update from both the Talk and Messenger apps). notifications are supposedly synced as well so if you reply on one device it won’t appear on another one — unification woo!

Lastly, to start Hangouts you have to enter a phone number which is the first sign that SMS support (most likely through Voice) will be coming soon — and don’t worry you can use Hangouts on your tablets not thanks to an update. In fact according to Google’s G+ community manager of Hangouts and Chat, Dori Storbeck,  SMS is one of their most requested features and will be “coming soon.” You can actually already get chat sent to your phone, if you don’t live in the States, by going to your Google account settings page. Knowing this feature is coming soon though is amazing, hopefully they can pull it off well.

For some of you, you may have had some excuse as to why you weren’t able to watch the keynote when it was life, you should feel bad it was awesome as expected. Well we are going to give you a second chance to watch it but be aware that you have to watch it now, because it’s too awesome to miss two days in a row. Don’t worry though I/O events are still going on and will be for the next 2 days.

The day 1 keynote introduced a lot of new features and items to developers and end-users alike. A brief run-down of what was introduced in this keynote is below:

It seems as Swiftkey wanted to get some buzz in right before the Google I/O madness goes down, and this may have been the best way to do it. They recently just updated their third-party keyboard app, and with the update have also put it on sale — this will be a great way to tweet all the news from the upcoming events especially without hurting my wallet.

The update brings Swiftkey to version 4.1 and includes this official changelog:

Late last night we saw a nice little update to the Play Store (right in time for I/O if you ask me) that doesn’t do much for adding functionality but it does make things more aesthetic and easier on the eyes. All the changes I’ll not below seems to only fix visual aspects so be aware, but know that the download link is below so your’s can look like ours.

The new update brings the Play Store to version 4.1.6 and with it brings about these changes:

• New design to the content category buttons on the main page (apps, games, movies, etc)
• “My Wishlist” has been changed to “My wishlist” to reflect the “My apps” option in the menu screen
• The wishlist UI has changed to Card view instead of list view
• The menu buttons for items now list the price of the item next to “buy”
• The settings screen is light themed instead of dark themed
• The Play Store will now warn you about a large update to an app when you are on a mobile data connection
• Update All” will now work for apps with new permissions, you’ll get a new popup asking you to approve/skip each new set of permissions
• There’s a new redeem interface for Google Play gift cards
•  The update button now says “Update All” even if you only have 1 app that needs updating

So there’s that huge list of visual updates, that rather give the new Play Store a much nicer look than we’ve seen. It’s sometimes hard to imagine what they can do next with visual changes after seeing stuff like this. The first download link below will automatically download the .apk without sending you anywhere, while the second will send you to AndroidFileHost (for those concerned about security). We’re a little over an hour from the start of this year’s exciting Google I/O keynote and the rumors and leaks are still coming — not surprising. We thought that you all would love to follow us and every other blog site out there in watching the keynote live since I’m assuming the majority of you are not out there at this moment. Don’t worry we feel your pain.

Good thing this year we didn’t have to search some  find a live video feed (like we have to do sometimes for other events), Android Developers YouTube page has it uploaded for us already with a countdown going until the start of the keynote.Be sure to not miss what is going on because I/O is sure to start off with a bang.

I normally don’t care to post rumors or anything that’s not fully confirmed, but this one caught my attention as something I’ve wanted in a pure Google phone for some time now.  As of the moment, you can still credit this information to the “Department of Things I Just Pulled Out of My Ass” until we see it actually happen.

According to Geek.com, Samsung will not only show off the Galaxy S4, but will supposedly also shows off a “Google Edition” (S4 GE) of the S4 as well.  Don’t get me wrong, as I’ve got nothing against Russell or the site at all or a reason to doubt them, but there’s nothing actually confirming it right now.  The idea though is intriguing.  The S4 GE is the Samsung version of the Nexus device, a pure AOSP version of the Android OS with no carrier or manufacturer bloat in a phone built purely to Google’s design.  What separates this from a typical Nexus design is it being the S4, along with the higher MP camera, expandable storage via MicroSD card, and more.  Customers like myself have wanted these options for years, but always had to resort to installing an AOSP based ROM to pull it off.  I’m not quite sure why Google is so against MicroSD cards and better camera, but if this is legit then I’m definitely looking forward to it.  Is it really too much to ask for lots of memory, and an 8MP or higher camera?

No word on if this will be sold directly by the carriers, or by Google like some other Nexus devices.  If it is real, let’s hope it hits shelves May 23rd to match Verizon’s announcement of the early S4 launch.

So it seems Big Red is getting a little nervous about the Galaxy S4, and has decided to shorten the launch date from 5/30 to 5/23.  This is pretty good news to all the VZW customers wanting to get their hands on the new awesomeness from Samsung.

Ken Muche, one of the PR guys for Verizon, let it go on Twitter about the new release date.  We posted all the info on release dates for the carriers at the end of April, along with the device specs in March.  There’s nothing wrong with getting ahead of the competition and some bragging rights along with it.  I wonder if any other carriers will launch earlier now, or stay firm?  While we’re at it, does anyone want to get this phone for me?  I’d certainly appreciate it!

On a totally unrelated note….is it just me, or does that dude Ken look real douchey?  On another unrelated note, I shouldn’t be surprised that Verizon doesn’t like sending us test units lol.
