And I realized that tonight while gazing affectionately into my Styrofoam container of Chinese takeout, thinking, "You know, if there was a contest to eat four pounds of your choice of Chinese food, I could do it." And then I remembered that they charge for those little Styrofoam containers of food based on weight - apparently my stomach tops out at a little over 1.2lbs. That's not entirely true, if someone offered me a cupcake right now, that cupcake wouldn't stand a chance UNLESS that cupcake weighed 3lbs. And by badass, I mean I got to make a play-doh monster and battle him Pokemon style with other people's play-doh monsters. I also engaged in a two fierce games of Jenga and Twister against my roommate (our legs still hurt from it).* I also exhibited some excellent miniature painting skillz and spent a while being a werewolf, om-nom-nomming villagers. It was good times. I took a bunch of pictures - but none of them are of stuff that I was doing strangely enough - well, except for the play-doh monsters... I neeed to upload those fer real.

In other news - I'M GOING TO CHICAGO FOR EASTER. Wooo! The astronomy club is doing a mini-excursion out there and I love me some Chicago, so I jumped on the chance to go. We're going to be hitting up the Adler planetarium (of course), a couple shows possibly, and eating a lot. It's part of the schedule. It's not just assumed that along the way we're going to find awesome food - we are on a mission to find awesome food! That'll be Friday, Saturday, and if we can't find a way to get home Saturday, Sunday also. I want to go noooooow.

* I'm pretty sure there are more than a few pictures in existance now of my derriere because our Twister-color-spinner-guy kept getting colors that left me bent over with my butt facing the whole room. Once I come up with the $3k or so that that'll cost (I've been saving money all year) I'm going to get that done possibly in Europe (depending on how things go with Greece) and then get a job (probably in Asia) doing ESL. GIMME A JOB!" then that's cool.

I don't just want to get stuck in Ohio for the rest of forever.

So my friends teach me sentences in Japanese...

Watashi wa asa no yuki de jisatsu shita.*

But thankfully the snow is melting, so we're all good! :D

I killed myself in the morning snow.

Philosophizing

Today at the gym, I realized I'm a bit like a T-Rex. I don't know how much I'll be blogging next semester either but I've got a photography class so maybe I'll post up photos from that. We'll see. Anyway, I felt like closing the year out with a Things I Love Thursday.

• My boys! Jimmy and Gizzy are the cuddliest cats ever when they're stuck upstairs with me at my sister's house. I say new even though it's older than I am. My parents bought an Olympus camera back sometime in the early 80s from a pawn shop in Iowa and they always used to let me fiddle around with it as a kid. I asked my mom to bring it out for Christmas and she let me keep it! And wow there are a lot of buttons that I don't the purpose of!

• Netflix. Best thing ever. I finished watching he 5th season of the Office and now I'm watching Lost - I always wanted to watch it but knew better than trying to start half way in. It's supposed to get in tomorrow but the mail room won't be open then which means that I'll probably get it on Monday - if I'm lucky. I wanted to take pictures of homecoming!

On top of that, when I went to check my mail this morning, I saw that I had a very official looking letter, from a lawyer. From my extensive law schooling (a few seasons of Law & Order) I don't think I'm being sued, but there is an angry lawyer and a collection agency hassling me on behalf of US Bank.

Last year, right before my birthday and my trip to Paris, I noticed that I couldn't log into my US Bank account online stuff. My sister also informed me that about $900 had been taken out of it and it was overdrafted about $899.72 (although I'd be surprised if I had more than 14cents in it at the time). My sister called the bank (since I was in Deutschland and they probably wouldn't appreciate me Skyping them) and we came to the conclusion that someone hacked my account and had withdrawn money from it in London. So we closed the account.

A year later, US Bank is blaming me for the epic overdraft and adding on various charges of being highly inconvenienced. This is ridiculous because A) I wasn't in the country - I was in Deutschland not England, B) I didn't even have the card - it was in the US, C) I am genuinely not that retarded. And this is why I switched banks when I got back to the US.

My sister and I are going to work on this tomorrow when she comes down for homecoming. If only I had a camera, I could take a picture of my pending litigation.

Library Kitties!

I just ordered a new camera off of Amazon and it should be here by the end of the week!

WOOOOT!

I have good news! I'm going to graduate on time!

Yesterday, my study abroad advisor asked me to drop by her office because I had "a good example of a European transcript" or so she told the person who was to relay the message to me. When I got down there, I opened the door to the office, saw my study abroad advisor, my overall advisor, and the lady from the registrar's office all sitting together.

Naturally, I said, "Uh-oh."

And then my advisors quickly assured me that it wasn't an 'uh-oh' - but it was about my transcript. The only transcript that I had gotten thus far from Marburg said that I had taken 24 ECTS points for the year. American universities divide those in half for credits at home. According to that transcript, I'd get 12 credits for my home university, for the year. We normally take 16 credits PER SEMESTER.

I told them I still hadn't received grades in two classes and that I have 12 more ECTS points coming (assuming that one professor that hates me there ever gets around to grading my last paper). But that still would only leave me with 18 credits for the year.

And that's when I heard the most magical of sentences:

"We're going to take your ECTS points and your credits one-for-one."

Not halved! Not even three-fourths'd! ONE FOR ONE, BABY! YEEEEAH! I'll get 36 credits for the year which should put me well into graduating range - probably even if that cranky, old bitch of a professor in Marburg shafts me on the one class! Weeee!

This is when I decide to become Amish

Here's a brief summary of my reasonably eventful Saturday:

I slept in until 9 (which is late for me!) and then made some pancakes. My flatmate woke up at a reasonable hour (11) so we headed to campus to check out the farmers market

and to see the Fair Trade Fair that we had this weekend. There wasn't much of interest at either (mostly because we're broke) but they did have a free Henna booth, so we both got henna tattoos!

After that, it was work, where I learned that my camera is broken (on top of my still busted shift keys). It just up and died on me - thankfully I could still take the memory card out and get the pictures off of it but this throws an epic wrench in my camera purchasing plans. I wanted to have my little one for tossing in my purse and a nice SLR for trips and events. Boo at spending $150 for a new purse camera D:

After I got out of work the roommate and I went to a wine and cheese party the university was holding for seniors and their parents. Neither of our parents (or my sister) could make it and we were horribly underdressed so we just lurked in the back and nom'd cheese and little dessert things - works for me! I'm not a big mingling person.

Once we had had our fill of chocolate and cheese we wandered off to the football game. This was the first football game that I've gone to since I started university! Ok, so it was the first half of a football game I've been to - we left at half time. Our team did win though: 20 - 0. I'll probably go to the homecoming game also and stay for the whole thing.

During half time we buggered off to the Role-playing guild's board game night. I said last week, after not winning any of the games I played, that'd we'd have to play Settlers of

Catan because I own at that game. We actually ended up

playing the Cities & Knights expansion which I had never played before - but like I said I would - I totally owned at it!

So yeah, aside from the busted camera (which I'm googling a replacement for now) Saturday was actually pretty awesome and probably the most eventful day I've had since I got back to school. :D

Entirely unrelated, but I just noticed this - one year ago today was when I moved to Deutschland for study abroad. Kind of weird now...

Some Songs.

I finally got around to making a playlist of some of my favorite songs at the moment so I wouldn't have to always be forwarding to another song when Shiny is on shuffle. The Role-Playing Guild on campus (we're a small school but we have a lot of nerds!) hosted a comic-con on Saturday, which I was able to spend about two hours at (when I wasn't stuck at work).

For the most part, my friends and I perused the comics that they had for sale; each of us ogling our own interests. One of my friends was on a fierce search for Transformers comics from the 1980s (she succeeded and ended up spending $8 on just one issue). Another friend was out for Magneto comics and she found a big compilation book for a hefty $2. I was after Catwoman comics and ended up with ten of them for about $5.

The highlight of the day though wad the acquisition of 'President Evil' - starring Barack Obama, Sarah Paladin and John McPain - oh and a shite-load of zombies. Two dollars VERY well spent. Highlight number two was a FREE copy of Barack the Barbarian. And on the cover? Sarah Palin clad only in a wolf-skin bikini - wolf head still attached. There are poster-sized versions of that image available and in some genuinely disturbing way, I really want one.

I think I died for a minute.

So, as has been seen in the photos, I have my boys Jimmy and Gizzy living with us. Well, they're kind of not technically supposed to - but it's a widely poo-poo'd technicality - I've seen some really big dogs coming out of the off-campus apartments.

ANYWAY.

Yesterday, I had a heart attack. It wasn't quite so much a heart attack as it was my heart exploding out of my chest, splat-bouncing off the opposite wall and plunking itself back into my gaping chest cavity. This is what happens when someone knocks on the door and doesn't say the code word. If the code word is not shouted, we know it's not a friendly at the doors and it's time for my favorite sport 'the ten-second cat herd and heave!'

In this game, I herd the cats into a corner so as to have optimal 'you have no where to run' grabbing space and then I heave them mightily into my room (actually preferably into the closet but you take what you can get). All of this has to happen in as little time as humanly possible because our worst case scenario is that it's a maintenance guy and they'll just come in if you don't answer the door.

Unfortunately there is also cat paraphernalia - a litter box, water & food bowls, etc - these also need to be hidden as quickly as possible. At this point though, you're probably going to be pushing a minute - and one minute is well into the red-zone. So all of this needs to GTFO ASAP or incur a $500 penalty per cat.

Do you see why I died a little?

So we ended up just getting a note from the maintenance guy saying that he'd be back tomorrow to fix the shower door. My roommate and I are all, "WTF? Why's he fixing the shower door? More importantly, WHEN is he going to fix it tomorrow? MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHERE ARE WE PUTTING THE CATS?!"

Have I mentioned that I have really terrible anxiety?

Well I do, and I stayed up the entirety of last night trying to think of ways to make two very not stealthy and subtle cats (mostly just looking at Jimmy here) be as quiet and non-existent as possible (remember that $500 penalty bit?).

Finally it comes down to swine flu. A few people on campus have had "flu-like symptoms" and were put in "voluntary" quarantine. WHAT A FANTASTIC IDEA! So it's resolved that said gatos will be herded into my room (and in their kitty carriers because I'm not going to chance Jimmy burrowing out of my room), the door will be locked, and a sign will be put up subtlety suggesting not to bother fixing anything in that bedroom because the occupant is infected. (Yes, he did say he was coming to fix the shower BUT YOU NEVER KNOW.)

I skipped my morning class today in hopes that he'd show up early and all this would be quickly behind us. But he didn't. Thankfully, I had plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime - namely, locking myself out of my room. I jiggled the handle, I body slammed the door, I considered calling maintenance but they're the whole reason I was in that mess anyway - finally I decided to climb in the window.

My front window opens really easily and the screen is barely hanging in there to begin with, so I head outside, desperately hope no one is outside, pop out the screen, pull up the window, scooch my desk out of the way (it's in front of the window) and carefully slide myself outside, only momentarily having to leave my ass and left leg dangling out the window. I successfully got back inside and promptly vowed to never keep my keys in my room ever again.

(I had to text my sister about that - she'd have been pissed if she had missed out on that LOL.)

Around the middle of the day, my roommate and I resolved to leave a note for the repair guy saying that we hadn't put in an order but if he really wanted to fix the shower, have at it. When I got back from work, not 40 minutes after the note had gone up (because maintenance people can never show up when you're at home), the note was gone.

Ten minutes later I get a call from the lady in charge of off-campus housing saying that she put in the work order based off what we wrote on the whole 'we didn't break this, please don't charge us for it' paper. Ok, that mystery is solved. The guy came, we know why, be free kitties! Have some chicken, I feel so bad!

Two minutes later there's a knock on the door. AKSKDNWKDOFNEJFH. I threw Jimmy in my room, Giz was already inside, closed my door and opened he front door. The maintenance guy is actually quite nice and doesn't seem to be a minion for the forces of evil and cat-removal. He switched out our shower head (the most ghetto thing I've ever seen) and told me he'd be back next week to change the shower door. I'm taking 18 credits this semester (maybe 19 next semester) in hopes of graduating on time. I'm actually sitting outside my study abroad advisors office right now waiting to go in and weep for assistance in getting my credits to transfer correctly. She said we'll get it figured out somehow - they "don't let people not graduate" - I'm guessing because that would make the department look bad if studying abroad put people in danger of not graduating on time.

Taking it back a little further though, my sister and I had a fantastic time moving me into my house (which is surprisingly nice for being a college house and for the fact that they plan to tear it down next year). We actually ended up having to move the couch in through the living room window, much to the chagrin of the interwebs guy who was sitting in front of the window when we shoved the couch through.

It took me about two weeks to get everything out of the Tupperware containers and put it all away - mostly just because I was lazy - it actually doesn't look like I have that much stuff in my bedroom. I have yet to take any really good pictures of it - I have a few but like I said, it looks really empty. But at least I have my fur-babies!

Gizzy had the hardest time adjusting, he just hid in his carrier for the first two days until I finally dumped him out of it. Then he just hissed and cried for two days (and nights - two very long nights). I told my sister about this via text message and shortly afterwards she responded with "BUTTER HIS FEET." No seriously. Apparently this is some old school way of getting a cat to chill out when it's in a new environment. So my roommate and I grabbed a tub of butter, flipped Giz on his back, braced ourselves and buttered his feet. He didn't fight - he just looked as confused as we were. Strangest of all - it worked. We buttered his feet and he calmed down - there wasn't any more banshee shrieking in the house. IT WAS AMAZING.

Jimmy was totally fine - he had his box, he had his bag of tissues, he had trouble to make. There are a bunch of kitties that live on our street and there's a little white one that loves to come up to whatever window Jimmy is sitting in and start shit. Every morning I have to drag Jim out of the window hissing and spitting. I think we may have to butter him, I dunno.

Speaking of hissing and spitting, our upstairs neighbors can only be referred to as douchebags - plain and simple. For example, last night we saw a few of them pissing off the roof. There will be no discussion - you piss off the roof, you end up being called a douchebag - that's just how it works.

But yeah, before this delves entirely into the realm of crazy, I should probably cut it off. Hopefully now that I'm more caught up with things, I'll be able to post more regularly again and in a less OKSOTHISISWHATHAPPENED sort of way!

Meow hiss hiss

So yeah, still not so much of the posting going on. As it turns out, the only reasonable explaination for my shift keys not working is that my keyboard is jacked and needs to be replaced. Fantastical. I'm typing this up on Shiny and hoping for the best because if I had to caps-lock and copy/paste my way through this post, I might punch myself in the face.

Tomorrow, Friday, I'm going to be packing like a crazy woman because I move into my apartment Saturday(!) and I honestly haven't even bothered to get out the bags to pack yet (which includes a really kickass vintage bright red Amelia Earhart suitcase that I picked up at a yard sale for $3). I also have to finish painting a bookcase. I'm super excited about moving in but it's going to suuuuccckkk getting the couch and the tv and the bed and the dresser etc moved in. My roommate will be moving in Friday and thankfully I told the gas and electric people to turn the stuff on on Friday - she won't have to sit around in the dark all night!

My schedules for work this fall haven't ended up being what I had hoped for which is lame. My tutoring job hasn't even started and I already feel like it could be a waste of time this semester. I wish I were getting more shifts at the library also - just being in there twice a week doesn't seem like enough.

Bah, I've been in a grumpy mood lately - I'm gonna go hit the chocolate frosting.

Why hello there!

I have friends visiting me until the 18th, so I've been pretty occupied hanging out with them and that's pretty much why I haven't posted anything in a good long while. I've managed to get back on Eastern Time pretty quick - I'm sure I would have adjusted sooner though had I not had CATS ATTACKING SHIT AT 5AM. I haven't quite gotten around to unpacking yet, so there are all sorts of bags and piles and junk for them to burrow through and bat around across the floor and to yank off of tables. But their mumma is on vacation for a week and they have no one else to cuddle with, so I leave my bedroom door open for them. I spend the first hour of my morning clapping, PFFFT!ing and HEY!ing them to try and get them out of whatever it is that they've gotten into. If they weren't so cute, I'd be tempted to accidentally leave the back door open. I've managed five things on the list so far and once I get some baking supplies, I should be knocking out the cupcakes, brownies and cookies like it's nobody's business! My sister got an iPod Touch from her boss and on the way home from the airport she asked me if I wanted it because she never uses it (and, to prove her point, it was tucked away in a bag in the garage). So I rescued Shiny, complained for a bit about having to use iTunes again, and commenced the music listenings and the Free Cell playings. I've never had an iAnything before (too damn expensive for mostly just being shiny) so it's been amusing poking around all the apps. Woot!

And now I need to go tidy and attempt to remove cat hair from bedding. And considering how expensive plane tickets are, I don't want to mess that up. So I scare the crap out of myself getting to places as early as possible. I missed the fat little trouble-maker!

And now... shower time. 11 hours on planes makes me feel icky.

London :D

I actually didn't do a whole lot of sightseeing while in London this time - it was mostly just 'chill out with friends who I'm not going to see for a very long time' time. So unlike the normal city touring schedule - which usually begins around 7AM and ends around 11PM - there was a lot more sleeping in.

Theater where we saw HP6 : Red Velvet and Chocolate Cheesecake Cupcakes!

We ended up seeing three movies: Brüno - I still feel like I need to wash my eyes, HP6: Half Blood Prince - I almost cried when Dumbledore dies but I kept it together, and Antichrist - I also still feel like I need to wash my eyes... and my soul.

Aside from movies, there were also cupcakes! We stopped at the Hummingbird Bakery because the friend I was visiting knew where one was (South Kensington!) and because I totally forgot to write down the names and locations of the other places I had googled. The cupcakes were super good but the buttercream icing was a little too buttery for me. Granted, this did not stop me from eating them. Nomnomnom.

I finally got around to trying fish and chips, also - probably the first time I've had fish in about a decade and probably the last time I'll have fish for about a decade. Much chocolate was had. Much quoting of Lamas mit Hüten was done (Kaaaarrrl - das tötet Leute!). All in all it was pretty golden - and I came in under budget! Who'd have thought that was possible for London?

All blurry because the little booger wouldn't stay still!

I feel like the highlight of my trip could very well have been the kitty that I found in a souvenir shop across from the British Museum. He was like the black version of my Gizzy! And he was a little bastard, too! Just like my boy! I even have a scratch from him to take back to my kitties! (As of posting time, I leave to see my kitties in about 24 hours and I'm sooooo exxxcciiittteeed!)

I'll try and whack up a Facebook album later on today (if the landlord lady doesn't chase me out with a stick first) and then I'll stick a link up on here!

A bit behind...

I just got back from London a couple hours ago and - as usual - it was great! Unfortunately, I'm feeling super lame for not posting up the Kassel pictures still. On top of that, I have to pack up the rest of my room tomorrow and Monday I have another day-o-errands - which thankfully mostly just involves shopping (chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate)! I will try to get the London photos up tomorrow or Monday and at the very latest, Wednesday. I'll be busy sleeping through Tuesday because I'm going home!*

Here are the pictures from Kassel though. And I would really like to point out, for having visited a bunch of sites situated on a big-ass hill, we didn't walk up a single step! Strategic bus and street tram win!

*It was the first thing that popped into my head! Woo! The art one Monday was all right - aside from the fact that none of the questions pertained to anything I studied for. And the history one Tuesday was decent - also didn't have anything to do with what I had studied for, but it was in English, so I could just make it up. The 18th Century Literature and the Shakespeare's Tragedies ones today were wonderfully easy! Now I just have to get a paper done for Monday and I'm done with all of the official during-semester stuff!

After that I've got one five page research paper due by the end of August and another 10 page I-don't-know-what due by October. I think I can handle that. Maybe. Hopefully.

Tonight I'm chilling out, watching House, adding pretty pictures to my vi.sualize.us, catching up on my Google Reader and going to bed early! And not waking up at 6:30 the next morning!

A trip to Kassel is also planned for Saturday(?) - there's much debate happening on Facebook as to when - where we're going to go see Wilhelmshöhe and Löwenburg (too lazy to look for an English Wikipedia page - sorry!). I went to Kassel around Christmas for the markets but never made it out to the gardens because it was too damn cold - so hopefully the weather will be good this weekend!

Monday, I get to run around town abmelden-ing (un-registering, signing out, canceling stuff, etc.), collecting signatures, getting grades, and just generally trying to sort out as much 'leaving Deutschland' stuff as possible before I, you know, leave Deutschland because at 4:30AM Tuesday, I grab a taxi to the train station, and then a train to Frankfurt, and then a bus to Hahn, and then a plane to London! I've already finagled someone into going to see Harry Potter with me! Also, I need to find a cupcake joint in London because I haven't had a cupcake in ten months. Dude, seriously, this is not cool.

Now I'm going to shimmy down to the Kneipe and see what's going on down there for a bit and then head to bed around 10PM.
