Did you ever hear the saying, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail" by Ralph Waldo Emerson? Well, it is something I live by. Since graduating Rhode Island College with a BA in Communications, I have struggled, tried and triumphed along my path as a determined entrepreneur. Now I am a managing partner of a successful, local, full-service marketing, advertising, production and social media agency. However, it was not easy. I was never afraid to fail, am passionate about what I do, and never take "no" for an answer. So don't just reach for your dreams, go out and grab them!
Prior to co-founding Omnia Agency, I held television post production & producer positions at WNAC/WPRI News in East Providence and WLNE in Providence. I'm currently a Big Sister of RI and also sit on the board for the non-profit organization Tri-Town Community Action Center as a media advisor.

When you hear Black Friday, hectic stores come to mind, as well as, low prices, long lines, aggressive people, and the sound of registers opening and closing. Hopefully, somewhere in your thoughts the gift of giving still lingers. With all the madness that the day after Thanksgiving brings sometimes we end up forgetting what we are truly doing this for. Businesses know consumers love low prices and will do some crazy things to get the best deals of the year, like standing outside of a store waiting for it to open at 12 a.m. For the ones who can relate to the crazy things people do for great deals, will also be able to relate to Target’s very own “Christmas Champ” played by Maria Bamford.

Maria Bamford plays an energetic, filled with christmas cheer character. Who will go to any extreme to get to Targets 2 day sale. Everyone knows that Black Friday is a stressful day and there are millions of people who are out there shopping for some pretty sweet deals, while tackling whoever gets in their way. [picture of Maria Bamford]

Target as we know is one of the biggest players in Black Friday. With this said, their awesome sales call for some advertisement. For those of you who haven’t stumbled upon their Christmas Champ commercials (with this year being the third year), Target thought out-the-box. Instead of going along with their competitors making Black Friday seem like a happy day, they played at the other end of the field. Wanting people to relate to their commercials and of course laugh. We all know Black Friday gets everyone in a frenzy running around trying to get deals and quite frankly the only thing that is happy on Black Friday is your wallet. Of course until all your shopping is done, all the presents are wrapped under the tree and Christmas dinner is ready to be served, this is truly when the happiness and the appreciation of your great deals can sink in. The wonderful feeling of giving starts to take over Target Christmas Champ 2011 Commercial

Christmas seems like it starts earlier and earlier every year. This year the day after Halloween I started seeing Christmas items in the stores. Which is insane, Christmas steals all the attention away from Thanksgiving. Which is also an important holiday who’s meaning fades away with the thought of Christmas arriving. Therefore concludes as a thoughtless Thanksgiving and Christmas which is bombarded by commercials. It’s tough to not drown in all they hype around us.

If I had it my way I’d eliminate presents from the whole equation even though many businesses would disagree strongly and there would be no such thing as Black Friday. At least people would celebrate the true meaning and wouldn’t just be thinking about the gifts they are going to receive or the hundreds of gifts they must buy. People wouldn’t have to max out their credit cards and they definitely wouldn’t be depressed for the next few months after Christmas because they won’t be broke. But, of course I must come down to earth and face the fact that this will never happen and try to beat all this hype at it’s own game. Once you’re done dashing through the deals just remember to come back to reality and celebrate the real Christmas meaning.
