I’ve bought a My Book Pro Edition which broke down after one year. WD replace it by a My Book studio edition : it is louder and divers rise errors in Snow Leopard. To crown it all it broke down 4 month later. I’ve loose my data each time. Now I’ve send many mails to the assistance without response since 15 days. The new disk warranty was 90 days and WD refused until now to replace my disk. It’s strange because the original disk is covered by the first waranty of 3 year.

Be careful when buying such stuff. You can be very disappointed if the Assistance doesn’t respect their duty.

Compatibilty with Snow Leopard is improved but you shouldn’t install the Apple Remote driver proposed to be downloaded when updating Plex. Few users can’t reboot their Mac after this install. You should wait the results of the developers investigations to avoid any problems..

The big news for French speaking users is the new movie scraper Ciné-passion. English speaking users can use it since the information are now in French or English. I suggest you to read Ciné-passion’s dédicated post to discover this new scraper.

The others new features are a new process to quit Plex by using a time counter and the possibility to install plugins easily without the App Store.

I’ve written some tutoriasl in French and I plan to translate them in English. Let me know if you are interested.

You can go to the Plex App Store to update or install it manually. If you have chosen the automatic update in App Store configuration, you have nothing to do to enjoy it.

This scraper is a major update of the speedallocine scraper which gave access to a big collection of thumb and fan-art in high quality for movies. The database is feed daily and automatically by scanning the web.

Below what’s new in Ciné-passion:

• Improvement of the movie identification algorithm decreasing the number of movie to edit after the first automatic scan.
• Now the scraper can feed an English speaking library by selecting the language in the scraper’s parameters. The previous version was only French speaking.
• You have the choice of the rating source : Allocine.fr, IMDB or Ciné-passion.
• The big update is you can now report errors in movies informations and suggest new picture by a bilingual GUI hosted on a dedicated website: official web page of Ciné-passion scraper.

This new scraper will be available in the next release of Plex and XBMC. If your can’t wait you can download it here.

Warning for French Plex and XBMC users : in the next release, former French scrapers allociné and speedallociné will be removed. Allocine is no more maintained and speedallocine is no more compatible with the new database. We think only one scraper allows to concentrate the focus of the few developers and make it easy for the new user to make his choice when selecting a scraper.

Don’t worry, the remove of those scrapers will not disturb the Plex or XBMC stability. Your sources will not be able to be refreshed until you update the category.

I plan to write some posts to help French speanking user to use Plex. I don’t know now if I will translate them in English.

My blog is bilingual thanks to qTranslate. When I create it I add the plugin WPtouch to be able to browse the website easily with an iPhone or an iPod touch. Unfortunately the two plugins are not really compatible :

• WPtouch is not localizable. I’ve found a French version on internet, but the translation was hard coded in the sources. It doesn’t use language file like the majority of Wordpress plugins. So the dynamically language switching is impossible.
• The WPtouch’s theme doesn’t allow to add easily a language selector.
• Some text field aren’t compatible with qTranslate. All languages are displayed or some functionalities don’t work like they should.

I’ve fetched the WPtouch beta version to watch if they will improve the compatibility. First good point the plugin will be localizable. Moreover there is a translation call for the users community. So I’ve installed it to make some test on Oncleben31.cc.

I didn’t resist to hack the code to make it really compatible with qTranslate.

Now what is working :

• There is an optional menu to add a language selector. It is activated in the plugin preferences.
• I’ve made the Search working with all languages. It used to work only with the default language.
• All of the text fields but the website title are localizable by using qTranlsate tags.

What is not working :

• Access to admin pages. In fact, I’ve founded a workaround but this is a qTranlate modification.
• The website title should not have characters like [ :## ] or < !–:##– >. Preferences are broken and the plugin is working with all default options.

Be aware this is a beta version base on an othe beta version of WPtouch. Backup you data before !

I will go on to make it even more compatible with qTranslate, and I hope original authors will integrate my modifications.

Update 10/09/2009 : I didn’t use qTranslate any more. I’ve tried WPML and I’ve decided to use two instances of Wordpress with a homemade plugin to manage language switch.

After playing a little with Wordpress and its plugin the website is launched.

A post (this one) and some pages about Plex have been published. It’s a good start but I’ve many ideas incoming about style and content.
