I’m making this post from my WordPress iPhone app. I’m currently on a 2G iPhone. However, just today I read about the 3Gs iPhone being released soon that has built in video capability. I’d post a link if I could, but so far the WP iPhone app won’t allow. Needless to say, I’m pumped!

When I first started blogging I had a huge interest in videoblogging. I still do, but lately my interest lies more in the technical aspects rather than actually producing video.

I plan to revitalize One Eyed View and I hope to do that by posting videos again. Maybe, the iPhone 3Gs will help?

I once heard a story about a homeless man on Hollywood Blvd who really thought he was invisible. But one a day kid handed the man a Christian pamphlet. The homeless guy was shocked and amazed, “what! You can see me? How can you see me? I’m invisible!”

It isn’t hard to comprehend this man’s slow spiral into invisibility. Once on the street, people started to walk past him, ignoring him as if he didn’t exist… much like they do a piece of trash on the sidewalk. It’s not that people are bad, but if we make eye contact, or engage in conversation, then we have to admit they exist and that we might have a basic human need to care. But it’s so much easier to simply close our eyes and shield our hearts to their existence.

This post couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. I have moved to a larger city recently, and because of that, I am seeing more homeless people than I have ever seen before. In fact, there is a homeless guy that sits with a sign every day on the road I take to get to and from my place of employment. I have often wondered about his story.

Maybe one of these days, I’ll simply stop and ask…

I was interested to learn about a new book released today by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and Institute of Medicine (IOM) called Science, Evolution, and Creationism. Whatever your opinion is on the debate between science and creationism, this book promises to be interesting.

SCIENCE, EVOLUTION, AND CREATIONISM is a book designed to give the public a comprehensive and up-to-date picture of the current scientific understanding of evolution and its importance in the science classroom. Recent advances in science and medicine, along with an abundance of observations and experiments over the past 150 years, have reinforced evolution’s role as the central organizing principle of modern biology, said the committee that wrote the book.

“SCIENCE, EVOLUTION, AND CREATIONISM provides the public with coherent explanations and concrete examples of the science of evolution,” said NAS President Ralph Cicerone. “The study of evolution remains one of the most active, robust, and useful fields in science.”

“Understanding evolution is essential to identifying and treating disease,” said Harvey Fineberg, president of IOM. “For example, the SARS virus evolved from an ancestor virus that was discovered by DNA sequencing. Learning about SARS’ genetic similarities and mutations has helped scientists understand how the virus evolved. This kind of knowledge can help us anticipate and contain infections that emerge in the future.”
