Celebrate with a unique date for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is coming up and many people are looking for interesting ways to celebrate with their significant other. Why just go to a movie and out to dinner when you can personalize your date here at One Norman Square Apartments? Below are a few tips to get you thinking on how to surprise your date or make the day a more memorable experience this year.

Set the mood in your apartment by lighting a few candles and de-cluttering the area. If you live with your significant other this will be an added gift, especially if there was much needed cleaning to be done. Keep the decor muted so as not to seem like you are forcing it.
Cook your date a meal that is among their favorites or one that you both have been meaning to try. If your date loves to cook, have them help you. The experience can be fun and bond you two closer. If they missed one of their favorite shows, DVR it so they can relax while you prepare the meal.
Give a personalized gift. Generic things are cute but something small but sentimental really goes a long way. Something that can be worn or seen every day and remind your date of what you feel for them is a great way to show you care.

Throw the Best Super Bowl Party at One Norman Square!

Where will you be celebrating and watching the Super Bowl?

Super Bowl Sunday is February 5th, and many people here at One Norman Square Apartments are gearing up for their Super Bowl viewing parties. Many will go to local Cornelius and Charlotte sports bars but many would rather save money and stay in with friends to watch the Big Game. Why not utilize the space you have here at One Norman Square by planning one of the best parties of 2012? Below are a few tips to help you get started!

Decorate your apartment in the colors of your team. Don’t forget to coordinate your disposable plates and napkins too!
If some in your party group will be rooting for the other team, use masking tape to divide the room and furniture. It will be funny and interesting to see who crosses the line!
Have everyone write down who they think will win, the score, and the MVP before the game begins. Whoever is right on each (or other questions) or closest will win prizes after the game. Gag gifts are great for this!
Create your own or buy “bad call” bricks, foam bricks for you and your friends to throw at the screen when a bad call is made.
Get a 6 foot long sub sandwich for everyone and have your group bring sides or dips when they arrive. This will help with cleanup and ensure variety

February is National Pet Dental Health Month

The pets belonging to our residents here at One Norman Square Apartments are just as much a part of their family as their own children. If health is important for people here in Cornelius, then why shouldn’t it be for our pets? Pets get regular vet visits and are fed healthy foods but sometimes not much thought is given to their oral health. Dogs and cats are said to have bad breath but in some cases, this may be hinting at a greater health issue. The month of February has been dedicated to pet oral health in order to bring awareness to the importance of regular oral hygiene for your pet.

Your pet's mouth is just as important as the rest of their body when it comes to health

Learn more on what symptoms to look out for in your dog or cat’s oral health. There is a video out teaching owners how to get their pet used to daily or weekly teeth cleanings. Be sure to ask your vet about what treats help promote pet oral health and which foods are better for them. There’s nothing better than a happy pet, a pet healthy throughout their body.

Even though it’s winter time, residents at One Norman Square Apartments still need an ice cream or frozen yogurt fix for their sweet tooth! Aside from all of the cool bakeries and sweet shops in Cornelius and Charlotte, ice cream and yogurt shops abound as well. Bring your family out for a treat or meet friends to gossip around the table.

Ala Mode Dessert and Ice Cream Cafe is a quaint little shop with loads of Blue Bunny ice cream flavors and toppings. They also serve an abundance of coffees, milkshakes, and other desserts. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Post below!

There are a variety of sports bars and pubs in and around Cornelius and One Norman Square Apartments. No matter the sport, friends and family like meeting in front of big screen televisions with tall glasses of beer and some chicken wings while cheering on their teams.

Herm Edwards likes the ‘hot’ Giants

Our man Herm Edwards was on “SportsCenter” this morning, talking up the New York Giants in advance of Sunday’s playoff game against the Packers in Green Bay. Here’s the video, but Herm’s basic point is that the Giants are a dangerous team because they’re coming in hot and have been playing playoff-style games for three straight weeks.

“This is a hot team coming into the playoffs, kind of like Green Bay was last year,” he says. “They had pressure games on them just to get into this.

London Fletcher will play in Pro Bowl

The Washington Redskins announced Monday that inside linebacker London Fletcher has been named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster and will play in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu on Jan. 29. Fletcher, who led the NFL in tackles this season, was not initially named to the team when rosters came out two weeks ago, but he was among the alternates. His selection is likely the result of the knee injury Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher suffered in Chicago’s season finale.

Someone’s trash in Cornelius could be a visitor’s treasure. Why not recycle old shoes to help build roads or paths?

Clearing Out The Holiday Clutter The NRDC

This Christmas, I hosted a vegan potluck at my home. The food was wonderful, but there was definitely far more of it than the six of us in attendance could eat in a day. Excess, even for those who are mindful about it, tends to go hand in hand with the holiday season. Be it extra food, old electronics, wrapping paper, greeting cards, holiday decor or old toys, I would reckon that each and every one of us has something that we need to clear out.

Do you have what it takes to go all the way after auditions in Charlotte?

Since American Idol, American’s have been auditioning for and watching talent, music, and singing competitions in droves. People of every size, color, and age think that they have what it takes to be a star. Residents of One Norman Square and people in Charlotte can get their talents warmed up for the America’s Got Talent auditions, February 3 and 4, at the Charlotte Convention Center, on South College Street. People travel across state lines to audition for this famous televised talent contest. Celebrity judges Sharon Osbourne, Howard Stern, Nick Cannon, and Howie Mandel will be rating each performance and deciding which ones move on!

From dancing in groups, solo singing, playing instruments, and more, America’s Got Talent features some of the most talented people in the nation. People of all sizes, colors, and ages turn out to audition. Pre-register through their website to be sure to have an entry! Children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

It’s almost the new year and many residents here at One Norman Square Apartments would like to have a new look for the year. Instead of purchasing new bedroom sets or stools for the kitchen, many people don’t realize that they can give their furniture a new life and look by stripping and refinishing it. North Carolina houses the furniture capital of the world, why not look the part? Try these easy refinishing tips here in Cornelius and rejuvenate your furniture.

Give your furniture a new lease on life by refinishing it!

Before you refinish a piece of furniture, be sure that it is clean and all hardware (handles, knobs) are removed. Before you apply restoration finish cleaner to your piece, test it on a small area to be sure it matches your furniture’s finish. Always follow direction. Refinish a little at a time, making sure your brush covers everything. When you are done cleaning, go over it again to be sure you didn’t miss anything.

Before you wax and polish, be sure to go over your furniture with a dust cloth to remove any dirt that could get trapped. Use the wax sparingly, it doesn’t take a lot to get the protection and shine you desire.
