Now that the big reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops II is complete, I got a chance to talk with Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia about horses, failing missions, branching storylines, and Vahn’s secret past. We even tackled that fan-favorite “what engine is this game using” question. We talk for a good 40 minutes, so it’s worth hearing. And it’s a thrill to be able to post this show due to the nasty tech problems we endured, but Kat and Hugh do appear as well, to discuss MW3 PC DLC, Bond villains, MW3 PS3 DLC, Jack Black, MW3 360 DLC, The Avengers, Prototype 2 DLC, Skylanders updates, Family Guy, and a Spidey preorder perk that Hugh actually likes. So much news, so many listener letters, so many distractions — how we got this week’s show done in an hour, I’ll never know. We made it through another year, and I cannot thank you enough for all the support you’ve shown One of Swords. Our podcast audience tripled in 2011, and that’s all from you telling your friends that what we’re saying is worth hearing! As a reward for your loyalty, here is a collection of our failures, ramblings, and anecdotes with no point from the last year — and some of them are explicit, so be warned. Adult language and adult situations lurk within the discussions of prunes, the alleged existence of Santa Claus, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the worst games we’ve ever played, ChatRoulette, Aaron Sorkin, keyboards, Joey Fatone, robotic voices, NASCAR hate mail, someone named “Donkey Lips,” hiding porn on your iPad, bad British accents, a formal apology for one of Activision’s games, family photos, a Google adventure, people Kat does not want to be friends with, the lost discussion about the death of Osama bin Laden, Darren Gladstone on PC mods, and a lengthy chat with Hugh’s wife, Lisa, about how and why to raise a family. A major milestone calls for a major celebrity guest — and Tony Hawk was nice enough to call in on his day off to talk about what you can expect from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD this summer. We talk about choosing pros, choosing music, and most importantly, he runs the Gauntlet of Swords!   Hugh and Kat and I then convene for the usual stuff — you know, the first news on MW3 DLC, Skyrim addiction, baby vomit, Spyro’s Universe, Headshotmas, Mazes and Monsters, sneaking into Star Trek, and Hugh openly attacks a holiday. Plus, we get Kat to run her own trivia gauntlet, thanks to you listeners. And really…100 shows? That’s thanks to you listeners, too.

UPDATE 12/21: I’d like to apologize to anyone who is offended by Hugh’s remarks in this episode. I thought it was clear that we are all independent voices on the show expressing independent opinions, and I will always let someone speak even if I disagree with their position (which is exactly what happened on this show). However, some people didn’t find Hugh’s jokes funny and didn’t feel they should have been included in the show, and I respect that outlook too. There’s no way to make everybody happy, but I did not realize anyone would be deeply offended by his statements. I am sorry for including Hugh’s comments.

UPDATE FROM HUGH 12/22: “My comments on the commercialization of Hanukkah were misinterpreted as an attack on Hanukkah itself — and that’s not the case. As I said on the show, I am Jewish myself; Hanukkah is special to me and my family, and I respect everyone’s right to religious freedom. Regular listeners of the show know I’m given to comic exaggeration, especially when I’m ranting about personal pet peeves, and this was one of those times. I did not mean to offend anyone with my views on the commercialization of Hanukkah, and I apologize to anyone who thought I was talking about Hanukkah itself.”
