After the passing of the legend last week, we honour Michael Jackson for the last hour of this week’s show with a special hour mix of the finest remixes with a funky house vibe over the last 15 years. Expect to hear all the classics remixed by a whole host of producers through the years, including the Freemasons, Frankie Knuckles, Junior Vasquez, Masters At Work, Tony Moran and even a cheeky Daft Punk mashup.

We kick the show off though with another fine production from our favourite Australian artist Rachel Claudio, followed up with some sexy, uplifting soulful house tunes. Unfortunately, we don’t have time for any Disco Tech tunes this week but don’t worry - we’ll catch up in two weeks time.

Our favourite voiceover Ben Day returns this week too after his Summer break. We got mixed reactions to Si’s attempt at covering so we’ll leave the talking to the pro’s.

    Originally released in 2006 on Stealth Records, re-released on 12th March 2009. Monster tune seeing heavyweight remixers Chris Ortega and Thomas Gold take on the Chicago producer Roger Sanchez.

    Phil England - whose already worked with Dan McKire and Max’C - teams up with Craig Dalzell to create this uplifting Ibiza-based funky house track. Vocals supplied by Larisa (one of the few girls signed to MoS).

13. eSQUIRE vs Bob Sinclair - Can You Feel It (Original Mix) [White Label]
    

    Cheeky bootleg of the 1999 house classic by Bob Sinclair (an all-time favourite of One Phat DJ), eSQUIRE applying his trademark sound to create a bouncy, uplifting, (almost) electro track for the clubs.

14. Dirty Vegas - Changes (eSQUIRE Remix) [Toolroom Knights]
    

    British house trio Ben and Paul Harris with Steve Smith on vocals returned after a four year split to record new material, promoting their new stuff at WMC09 and Barack Obama’s inauguration.

15. Dennis Christopher - Set It Off  (Ian Carey Remix) [Spinnin]
    

    Potentially the biggest track of the year. Huge support from the likes of Hed Kandi’s David Dunne, Ian Carey takes us back to the 90s with this acid-inspired remix, massive vocals, heavy piano loops.

16. Dimitri from Paris pres Electra 80 - Rock This Town (Original Mix) [Ssoh Music]
    

    Something a little different now, delving in to the world of nu disco with the legend that is Turkish-born French DJ Dimitri from Paris. This track consists of so many samples, you’ll struggle to identify them all.

17. The Young Punx -  Never Die (12″ Mix) [Mofohifi Records]
    

    Originally released in September 2008, this disco-infused track made a recent comeback featurd on Hed Kandi’s Nu Disco compilation. Fronted by Hal Ritson, the Young Punx have delivered quite an eclectic selection of tunes over recent years - I’ve featured several of their productions in my podcast, all with different styles.

18. Novy vs Eniac - Superstar (Show Me Your Intention) (Plastic Funk Remix) [Ministry of Sound Germany]
    

    Tom Novy puts his touch to DJ Jose’s 1997 track “Hesitate” with a bunch of producers creating a diverse range of remixes in this new package. The Plastic Funk remix is by far my favourite but be sure to check out the Lissat & Voltax remix for something a bit tougher.

19. Leonardo Carioti and Fedi T ft Vincent - Take Control (Xtended Vocal Mix) [Smilax Italy]
    

    The young Italian DJ has teamed up with fellow Italian Federico Trufelli bringing us a mixture of laid back piano loops fused with electro synths.

20. Audioplayerz ft Sarah Brown - Crazy (Club Mix) [Grooveland Records]
    

    This is the debut track from Welsh trio Fabian Abeki, Emil Falek and Marcus Simpson, featuring the vocal talents of fellow Welsh singer Sarah Brown. Fabian met Sarah at an MTV Base gig in Bristol and immediately asked her to feature on their recent production. With support from BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM, this is one to watch in 2009.

21. Mack - Return Of The Mack 2009 (Spencer & Hill Remix) [AATW]
    

    The German duo Peter Spencer and Josh Hill put their touch to the 1996 RnB hit by Mark Morrison in a collection of remixes for 2009.

The problem is this: I know that only a tiny minority of that figure actually spent money on the featured tracks. Naughty, naughty!

The reason Funky House Finesse is produced is to promote the latest funky house tunes to everyone, especially those tracks that don’t get prime time coverage but deserve it. Seriously, if you’re enjoying the tunes, reward the artists and producers for their efforts by purchasing the track. Nearly all the tracks featured are linked to legal download websites where you can buy the track, normally for about £1.

With the lecture out the way, let’s move on to the second show from the Funky House Finesse series.

Featuring some monster tracks from the likes of Bassmonkeys, De’lacy, Jay J, One Foot In The Groove, Rudenko, Bimbo Jones, Ricky Luchini, Moony and a sexy remix by Jazz N Groove of Soulsearcher’s classic “Can’t Get Enough” kicking the show off, you’re in for 90 minutes of pure class mixed up by your resident One Phat DJ.

Funky House Finesse 2 will also be broadcast on Lifted Radio soon. Dates and times are still to be confirmed but I am over the moon about landing the slot. I’ve been keen to broadcast the Funky House Finesse shows since the start and its an honour that Lifted Radio have offered me the slot. I’ll be sure to announce where and when you can check it out.

Talking of Lifted Radio, good friend Paul Velocity who also hosts a fortnightly show every Thursday afternoon kindly allowed me to sort out a guest mix a few weeks back. Funky House Finesse is a new programme of mixes produced by myself, One Phat DJ, with the same intention of promoting the finest in funky house music.

Each 90 minute show will highlight the latest funky house music doing the rounds of the club scene, tunes that you may hear from industry leaders like Hed Kandi, Fierce Angels, Defected and Ministry of Sound as well as the smaller independent labels, plus exclusive white label and bootleg tracks from upcoming producers.

You may be thinking “This sounds remarkably like the podcast, what’s different?” - well here’s the catch…

Each show will only be available for download for one month!

At the end of the month, the mix will be taken offline and you won’t be able to download it after that. The reason for this is to ensure only the hottest music of the moment is available for download at any one time.

There are also plans to broadcast each show on selected internet radio stations - more details of this will be posted later.

So, without further ado, I present the first in the series of Funky House Finesse.

Due to such high demand, I’ve dusted off the old mixing gear and thrown together the very last mix for the One Phat DJ Podcast. Call it an early Christmas present for all those new iPods that will be appearing under the tree.

One Phat DJ has made one last return in his final ever podcast mix - Encore.

Packed full of the some of the biggest house tracks from the last quarter of 2008, you won’t be disappointed with the quality of tunes in this mix. With the likes of The Shapeshifters, ATFC, No Halo, Future Funk, Haji & Emanuel, Wawa & Herd and Hoxton Whores thrown in, it’s almost a mini “best of 2008″.

Richard Earnshaw has been a busy man this year, putting his final touch to numerous floorfillers - the fact he has three remixes in a row at the start of the mix indicates just how impressive his work has been. No doubt we’ll be hearing more from Mr Earnshaw in 2009.

You’re also treated to some new material from a couple of local West Midlands ladies in the middle of the mix, firstly from the lovely Beverley Knight whose teamed up with Seamus Haji and Bryan Chambers in the brilliant “The Pressure“, then a funky number from new Birmingham label Nightingale Global Records with Pimp + Jam’s “Feelin’ U Feelin’ Me” which features the vocals of Norma Lewis.

There are also some classics (and all time One Phat DJ favourites) revisited towards the end of the mix in ATFC’s 2008 remix of his classic collaboration with Lisa Millet “Bad Habit” and The Shapeshifters injecting a touch of electro into their 2003 hit “Lola’s Theme“.

The whole package is wrapped up with a cheeky bootleg from Hoxton Whores who’ve mashed up Eric Prydz’s “Pjanoo” with the vocals from “Fusion“. This track has had massive support from the Hed Kandi circuit and I must admit - I actually prefer it to the original Pjanoo track. What better way to finish off the year?

We start things off on a slower tangent with Wez Clarke & Maxine Hardcastle’s “Walking With A Smile“, a track from Hed Kandi’s Beach 2008 compilation. If you haven’t got the album, get it. It’s perfect not only for chillaxing on the beach but for those times when you’re lounging around at home in the evening with a drink or two.

Next up is one of my favourite producers of all time, Joey Negro, delivering two stunning productions. The first is the belting disco-infused Sunburst Band with “Fly Away” which I can’t get enough of at the moment. This is quickly followed up by Z Records milestone 100th release, “Love Hangover“, which samples the classic riff from Diana Ross‘ 1976 hit by the same name.

After this, you’re treated to Steven Stone and the uplifting vocals of Andrea Love with “Good Love” from Stereo Sushi version 13 and an appearance from one of my favourite vocalists on the house scene Georgie Porgie with “Can You Feel That Sound“.

Following this is a sweet little remix of Mariah Carey’s “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” by DJRoman as part of the remix competition on Indaba Music - definitely my favourite among the many entries.

It’s not long before we cool things off a little with Sound Of Joy’s “Now Or Never“, a funky vocal number that is sure to get rumps shifting, then we turn things up a notch with the latest project from everyone’s favourite, Brighton’s Freemasons. They’ve snapped up the Funk Fanatics‘ “Love Is The Answer” on their Free Maison label, added their personal touch to the disco number, ready to throw it in to the limelight. I’m sure you’ll find that infectious loop will stick in your head for days!

Now it’s time to bring back those oh-so-popular commercial remixers Moto Blanco with a few tracks from their vault. First up is a track from last year’s World Aids Day campaign with Annie Lennox and a whole host of other famous ladies (including Madonna) getting the synth and strings treatment on “Sing“. This is shortly followed up with lady of the moment and sister of Beyonce, Solange Knowles and her fantastic new track “I Decided“. There are quite a few catchy remixes doing the rounds at the moment, including an impressive effort from the Freemasons, but it was Moto Blanco’s reworking that did it for me.

After Levi5 and Michelle Martinez treat us to “Third Time“, it’s time for Hed Kandi’s latest revival offering in the guise of No Halo’s “Put Your Hands On“. I can’t get enough of this track at the moment, mainly because of the sample from Johnny Corporate’s “Sunday Shoutin’“. Paul Harris, Ian Masterson, Therese and Lauren Rose have outdone themselves.

With Hed Kandi out the way, it’s time for some Audio Freak productions, starting off with Soulshaker’s remixes of Juliet Robert’s “Slow Down” and Kathy Brown’s “Sounds Of The City” then going into the Bassmonkey’s remix of Eugene’s “Falling” - three awesome examples of upbeat funky house at its finest.

Now it’s time for my favourite tune of all time on the remix with 7th Heaven. At first, I thought it was blasphemous. But after a few listens, I was convinced. It’s impossible to ignore the sheer power of Degrees of Motion and “Shine On“. You just try to not enjoy it.

From here on in, we get a little “Twisted”.

It commences with Jon Fitz’s remix of “Hesitate“, Richard Murray’s “Set Me Free” and Sasha Angel’s “Keep Shining“.

Regular vocalist Katherine Ellis makes a welcome return to the podcast featuring in McCall’s “Gotta Get Through” before Roxanne Wilde takes the mic in Milk & Sugar’s Summer anthem “No No No“.

You then get stung by the anthemic piano loops of James Dornan’s “Everythings Gonna Be Alright” and Brinsley Evan’s “That New Sound“, building you up into a real crescendo before I drop the collaboration of the season - Axwell, Bob Sinclar and Ron Carroll’s “What A Wonderful World“. While the original version is a little cheesy, the Dabruck & Klein remix oozes energy through the breakdowns and build ups.

After Out of Office’s “Insatiable“, we delve into the past with a fantastic and filthy 2008 remix of Cevin Fisher and Loleatta Holloway’s “Got Me Burning Up“. Any sensible DJ would have this tune in his box this season to ensure maximum bounce-factor in the clubs.

And why not wrap up the mix with tune of the Summer - Fred Falke’s remix of Defected’s success story that is The Montanas and DJ Roland Clark with “Music Talking” - perfect to bring the podcast to an end.

It’s quite an emotional moment for myself and, I’m sure, all the other guys involved. I never expected the podcast to be as successful as it has been, nor the respect it receives from the fans and industry. From far and wide, people from all over the globe are subscribed to the podcast and, without you, it wouldn’t be what it is today. I’m constantly sent messages from regular listeners which motivates me further to keep doing the podcast. I thank you all.

Now the speech is out the way, I have a few announcements to make about the podcast, by way of changing the format (again):

• After a six month trial, I’ve decided to return to producing the podcast just once a month.  There are several reasons behind this decision but, for you guys, it just means quality will come over quantity.
• Rather than limiting the mix to 80 minutes in total (originally for those who like to burn a CD copy for the car), I shall be extending the mix to a whopping 2 hour special. More time, more tunes!
• To keep all those CD fans happy, you will also be able to download an 80 minute edited version directly from the website with a CUE file for easy skipping.
• It’s time to scrap the formal naming conventions for the podcast too. House music is an art form. It’s about being creative. Let’s go back to the catchy names, starting with this one.

There are a few other ideas I am currently toying with so keep checking back for details. I know there will be disappointed listeners out there but that is life. You can’t please everyone.

With that out the way, let’s pick things up again and get listening to the latest in funky, soulful, disco and electro house. There are 23 tracks in this month’s mix so there is bound to be something for everyone.

Love it or hate it, you can’t deny the fact the Freemasons are still going strong and with the legend that is Katherine Ellis on vocals, “When You Touch Me” is sure to be anthem of the Summer so it’s only appropriate to commence the mix with this classic.

After Pat Rich Deejay and Francesca St. Martin have delivered a belting tune, it’s the turn of the newest UK girl band on the scene, The Saturdays, and Moto Blanco’s remix of their track “If This Is Love” - a track I’m giving my full backing for the coming months. Keep your eye out for two S Clubbers in the line-up…

We’re then treated to the latest monster track from vocalist Amanda Wilson with Simmons and Christopher on the remix as well as a cover of the dance classic “Teardrops” from producers Love Assassins.

After an exclusive remix from One Phat DJ Favourites Bassmonkeys of Ali Bertash’s “Let Me Go“, we go into another smash Summer hit from Italian DJ-cum-producer Alex Gaudino and his updated remix of “Watch Out” which features some samples from Perfecto Allstarz 1995 anthem “Reach Up (Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag)“. I thought there was nothing wrong the original album version to be honest but its great to hear the track make commercial radio and a huge success in the clubs. Maybe Alex simply wanted a guarantee or something that will serve as a life insurance just in case unexpected events occur.

This is shortly followed by another track that has been doing the scene for a fair few months but has only just made it into the limelight. Now with an updated and banging remix from Manchester producers Wideboys, Connected and Max C’s “A Feeling” is sure to get your feet or heading moving as we go into the last 30 minutes.

After more treats from the likes of Sound Control, Back To Fundementals, Deemah, XSS and another exclusive remix from the Bassmonkeys‘ alter ego Liquid Nation, we turn things up another notch with Smax and Gold’s remix of Soul Seekerz “Reach For The Love” before going into the return of anthem-makers David Guetta, Chris Willis and Tocadisco’s latest offering “Tomorrow Can Wait” to wrap up this extra long mix.

The whole package is wrapped up with another fine piece of artwork from our guest artist for June, Gemma Barton, who has produced this fantastic, bright and vivd illustration to accompany the tunes and Summer feeling. That’s not to say I’ve been lounging around doing nothing. There have been literally thousands of tracks released to check out in the mean time and I’ve been a busy bee going through them all, sorting out the musical treats to grace your lovely ears.

So, here it is - it’s time to turn your speakers up and download Episode 47 - the May ‘08 Crescendo.

Details

There are some fantastic uplifting tracks in this mix, covering quite a broad spectrum of the funky house scene (even if some of the latter tracks might break the boundaries of “funky”).

I’ve been hammering the first track “Lift Him Up” to death over the last month - the huge vocals of Linda Lee Hopkins certainly grab your attention, especially with the addictive beat and hooky bassline.

Warren Clarke supplies the lush sounds that certainly wouldn’t sound out of place on any Hed Kandi release with his dangerously titled “Bitch Is Back” - catchy vocals and immense uplifting loops make this a firm favourite for my Summer.

We also get an exclusive play from the Bassmonkeys with their latest production in the form of a remix of Etherfox’s “More Man Than Man” - a typically loud and uplifting production with fantastic vocals from our boys from Norwich.

It would have been rude to let The Shapeshifters funky dub track “Treadstone” slip through the net as well. I’m so glad Max and Simon have returned this year and hope to hear a lot more funky numbers like this, maybe with some vocals next time eh boys?

Being a bit of a sucker for some catchy rapping over dance numbers, when I discovered “Direct Connection” from Sean Biddle and Krukid, I was hooked. I’m sure I won’t be alone in this though. Let me know what you think.

After a few more funky numbers from the likes of regular vocalists Shena and Nicole Tyler, things suddenly take a turn to yesteryear, starting off with G & G’s reworking of Armand Van Helden’s massive “My My My” with Gary Wright on the vocals, shortly followed up with Micha Moor’s reworking of Prodigy’s “Outta Space“.

We wrap things up with another familiar face on the scene with Amanda Wilson lending some superb vocals towards the rollercoaster ride of A Lee’s “Gotta Let Go“, with a final polishing from Chris Ortega.

It was quite difficult selecting just 13 tracks for this mix as there was such a fantastic selection released in April and May but I hope you agree the final cut are perfect.

With it being Deaf Awareness Week, it seems appropriate to highlight the Don’t Lose The Music campaign. Being a DJ and huge lover of music in general, I am constantly aware of the dangers of losing my hearing, especially after watching the awesome movie “It’s All Gone Pete Tong” where DJ Frankie Wilde (played by the brilliant Paul Kaye) loses his hearing from over-indulging in the Ibiza lifestyle. The intention of Don’t Lose The Music is to raise awareness of playing your music safely, be it in a club atmosphere or on your iPod earphones. One Phat DJ strongly urges you to consider taking care of your ears, as well as bring awareness to those around you. Those of us who can appreciate music should not take it for granted - there are some people who aren’t so lucky. Give those people a thought too…

Episode 45 comes with a host of huge anthems from around the house circuit at the moment, some you may have heard, some you may not.

One Phat DJ regulars Miki Moto & Bobby Blanco kick of the preceedings with a fine remix of the 1997 hit “Keep Love Together” which features the ever sustainable vocalist Kelly Llorenna.

We then get a welcome return from our Brighton boys the Freemasons with their stonking remix of the 1995 classic “Disco’s Revenge” by Gusto, a track that seems to be getting sampled quite a bit lately.

It seems remixed classics are all the rage at the moment as its not long before Warren Clarke puts Utah Saints‘ “Something Good” through his sound desk to create a huge piano driven production sure to get you in the party mood.

We then turn the pace up a notch or two with ATFC’s awesome “Up To 11” remix of Mark Picchiotti and Basstoy’s rather aptly named “Turn It Up“, shortly followed by Robbie Rivera’s dirty number “One Eye Shut” and another remix from that Funky Chicken, this time in the form of Funkerman’s delightful “Speed Up“.

We’ve not heard from our favourite Swedish producer StoneBridge for a while - well, if he’s busy producing monster tracks like “You Don’t Know” and “Close To Heaven” in his silence, who’s to complain? Top work mister, keep the anthems coming!

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the best part of 2008, you may have noticed that it’s all about the big bassline this year. Everywhere you turn, you’ll hear that infectious bassline taking over the local club or nearest chav’s car sound system. One producer who is really making the most of the trend is Delinquent. If he’s not busy enough remixing every damned dance or RnB track to get a release this year, he’s also managed to sort out a few productions of his own. For your delight, The Wideboys have given “My Destiny” a bit of tweaking for the electro house scene. (Keep tuned to the podcast for a nice little bassline treat coming very soon).

It must be Summer if the last act are making a return - Max and Simon of The Shapeshifters fame have not only created an awesome double-A side in “Chime” and “Treadstone” but they’ve also been signed to one of the finest house labels in the world, Defected. Congratulations goes out to the boys - its the recognition we’ve all been waiting for.

This month sees an influx of new material from WMC Samplers taking over. After an epic week in Miami, with it came a huge backlog of new material to check out and filter out the stuff that you have come to love on the Podcast.

I’ve also included some of my highlights from the latest Fierce Angels release, Fierce Disco II (which I’ve yet to review, apologies for that). There are some regular “faces” in there such as Moto Blanco and Bassmonkey remixes, as well as the insatiably talented Peyton wrapping up the mix.

We also have a (semi) exclusive appearance from an English producer who goes by the name of DJ Ruxpin. Collaborating with the taltented vocalist Scarlet, Ruxpin has created an infectious and corking funky number, full of bouncy basslines and remarkably hooky synth loops. This is an extremely early promo so I’ll update you when an official release is due.

Among the favourites this month are some great remixes of classic house tunes, some from the early noughties (Paul Johnson’s “Get Get Down“), some even from the mid nineties (Liquid’s “Sweet Harmony“)! We also have an exclusive Bassmonkeys remix of Jocelyn Brown’s new project in The AllStar Collective’s awesome “All About The Music“, a tune I’ve not stopped playing for the last month, as well as plenty more chuggy basslines, snappy beats and uplifting vocals to get you in a lather.

This month’s artwork is from the talented young designer Sam Hardacre hailing from Halifax, UK. With this being one of his first commissions in the last few years, he has surpassed himself with this grungy little number, after throwing ink all over his floor for that dirty splatter effect. I’m really chuffed with this final piece and I doubt this is the last time you’ll be seeing our “nocturnal monkey” on the One Phat DJ Podcast.

It seems only appropriate to celebrate the landmark occasion with the first mix of March 2008 - here is Episode 42, “Mar ‘08 - The Warm Up”.

Supplying the artwork this week is Mr Cole Henley, hailing all the way from bonnie Scotland. I love this clever cross reference with Miami in such a relevant month - the simplicity of the silhouettes keep the image pure and simple, the graphic equalisers subtly making appropriate suggestions.

With that, all that is left to do is download the mix, turn up the speakers (or your headphones) and feel the warmth ooze into your body from the uplifting soulful sounds. You’ll be in Miami before you know it!

This mix has some real diversity to it. Whether that’s a good thing or not, I don’t know. The fact we have the RnB Queens Mary J. Blige and Janet Jackson in there, alongside big bassline favourites Addictive and H Two O, you know you’ll be treated to some variety.

I’m not sure how “twisted” I’ll be taking future Crescendo mixes but this month’s mix takes a real plunge into the dark depths of the funky house scene. I’ve been listening to some quite tense tracks over the last few months and found some firm favourites that I’ve shared with you towards the end of this mix.

I’ve even featured an artist I’d never thought would make it into the podcast - Dizzee Rascal. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at his material but when I saw Radio 1’s latest addition Dave Spoon had put “Flex” through his sampler, I had to give it a try. I was hooked! What a catchy and sweet bassline. Dave also gets his reworking of Dave Lee’s classic “Latronica” track in the mix too - he’s obviously been a busy producer over the last few months!

• Rather than this being a monthly podcast, I’m changing it to a fortnightly fixture. Some might think I am shooting myself in the foot by creating more work but I want to experiment with two different show formats - the first as a warmup show, the second based on the clubbing scene.
• The mixes will only be delivered as the original MP3 format. While the iTunes friendly version was full of nice cover art and chapter marks, it was creating a lot of work for little return. This way, the podcast feed isn’t specifically targeted at just the iTunes listeners (especially now the Microsoft Zune is increasingly gaining popularity).
• The mixes will be released on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month rather than the second Friday of the month. I’m doing this so it should allow you all to download the latest episode in time for the weekend, when you’re most likely to play it.
• Rather than creating a catchy (and usually appropriate) name for each episode, I have decided to simply go back to basics and name the mix according to the date and style of the music.
• In line with the new naming conventions, I will be trying to standardise the artwork for each podcast episode, creating a strong and consistent brand for the podcast. While it was great fun choosing and showcasing different pieces of art to suit the name of each episode, it created a lot of extra work for me which used up time and money, time that I can now spend on the actual podcast production instead.

I feel by making these changes, it will give me an opportunity to focus more attention on the core aspect of the podcast, the music, rather than all the administration of the podcast. Description

I’ve long been a fan of The Shapeshifters, ever since the massive 2003 hit “Lola’s Theme“. However, most comebacks in the dance scene are either non-existent or really poor. Thankfully, the Shapeshifters broke the mould and managed to make a great return with some banging tunes, one of my favourites being “New Day“.

Now that we’ve set the scene, its time for another great track from early in the year with De Souza’s lush cover of “Guilty“, this time with an added twist thanks to Bimbo Jones.

Time to inject a bit of a Latin feel into the mix now compliments of Sergio Flores and the Japanese producer Mitomi Tokoto and their infectious rumblings in “Hold On (That Piano Track)“.

More Latin inspired sounds follow with the German producer Raul Rincon and vocalist Carolina Escolano throwing their collaboration into the mix with “Mi Amor“, a truly uplifting and catchy tune which Hed Kandi proudly featured in their Disco Heaven compilation.

We then venture into commercial terrain with two massive hits from late Summer, starting off with Armand Van Helden’s anthem “NYC Beat“, shortly followed by Fedde Le Grand’s reworking of Ida Corr’s “Let Me Think About It“, my favourite tune from the entire year. I really can’t put my finger on what makes the track so perfect but it certainly got bums shaking around the country when it went straight into Number 1 of the UK Charts.

We then return back to start of the year with the first track that got my attention in 2007 - the synth happy, lyrically blessed “Need You Tonight” from the Kingpinz and Antonio Lucas.

Henrik B’s reworking of the dance classic “Soul Heaven” had to get into the mix somewhere and this is swiftly followed up with Radio 1’s latest signing Dave Spoon and his track “Won’t Do It Again (Sunrise)“.

It wasn’t long before there would be commercial successes, this time from Ministry’s Data Records. Alex Gaudino’s saxophone-induced “Destination Calabria” was a monster track through the summer months, as was Dada’s filthy tune “Lollipop“. Kudos goes to Sandy Rivera for getting away with making this innuendo heavy track one of the most catchiest tunes of 2007.

Yet another Data record follows with yet another saucy video, this time in the form of Mason and Princess Superstar with their huge hit “Exceeder (Perfection)“.

To wrap up the whole mix (and series), what better way than to get a dirty funked up remix of Robyn’s Summer anthem “With Every Heartbeat” for you all to sing along to? Yeah, its missing those amazing string breakdowns but we need something to fit into the mix and I think this version does perfect.

Here’s to a funky 2008!

Description

The pioneer of British house music Dave Lee kicks off the very female biassed proceedings for the second time with the under-rated track Too Much Information, a perfect choice to set the pace of the next hour of funky house tunes. While it might be a late comer in the year, Chanel then initiates the foot tapping and side-stepping with her infectious “Dance” offering. We are then treated to the vocal talents of Rietta Austin, another firm Hed Kandi favourite which I’ve been playing over and over again throughout 2007. Before you can catch a breath, those Booty Luv girls bless us with my preferred release from the duo in 2007, “Shine” (even if the late Luther Vandross did the better version before his estate recalled all Freemason remixes from the album). The huge voice of Taka Boom is not far behind with her party anthem “Treat Me Right” before The Wideboys resample of “The Bomb” keeps the tempo going with their (still) un-released beauty. Fellow label signing Dannii Minogue get’s her awe in their too with her collaboration with Jason Nevins before its time for some Defected favourites. Barbara Tucker and Una Mass know how to deliver their vocal talents and their treats in 2007 surely delivered. We then get a piece of Seamus Haji’s Big Love thanks to another One Phat Favourite in the form of D’Empress and Ijah. Starchaser and Shena keep the momentum going with “Let Your Mind Go Free” before we break things down a little with the dubby but still upbeat “Miami Sun” from Chic Flowerz. What better way to wrap up the mix than with the Freemasons and Siedah Garret with the Walken remix of “Rain Down Love“, ideally setting the scene for Part 3 of the series.

Description

Bobby D’Ambrosio kicks off the festive proceedings with a remix of the Christmas classic “O Christmas Tree“, sang beautifully by the lovely Jamelle Jones.

We then get straight in to the mincemeat of the mix with some full on upbeat vocal treats from our carol singers Nicole Tyler, Vee Scott and Amaya Amaya.

Following the Hed Kandi favourites comes some commercial elves in the form of One Phat Favourite Georgie Porgie, lovely Rihanna and the latest phenomena from stateside, J Holiday.

If that’s not enough for you, we get all psyched up with some huge tunes from Eddie Armani, DJ Dervish and the rather aptly named Holy Rollers.

Clubland’s favourite Chanel makes a welcome return with her latest offering “Dance” to get you up off your arses for a good boogie while Fish & Chips drop a cheeky sample from the classic Spiller track “Groovejet” into the mix.

Hernandez & Tyo treat you to a final big tune full of energy and vocals before we wrap up the whole gift with a remix of Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby” courtesy of our good friend from Manchester DJ Cruze.
